Chapter 19 – To Rekindle Old Friendship

For the first time in years, Catra had an absolutely amazing sleep. She slowly woke up at the foot of Adora's bed, and the first thing she noticed was Adora was already out of bed. She stretched herself out like a cat and rolled sleepily out of bed. Figuring she'd enjoy the amenities of her new home, she headed immediately for the bathroom, she wanted a shower as soon as possible. Preferably one much warmer than the showers at the Followers base.

What she did not expect however, was to walk in just as a naked Adora was drying off. The two stared at each other in shock for a fairly long time. "Uh...Hey Adora." Catra finally said.

"Hey..." Adora replied with a blush.

"Oh like I've never seen you naked before." Catra deadpanned, before glancing at Adora's chest, and then her own. "Oh that's just not fair..." she grumbled.

Adora looked at her confused. "What isn't?"

Catra groaned. "You're so dense Adora. Look, hurry up and get dressed, I want to get a shower in." she whined. Adora nodded and turns around, grabbing her change of clothes. This had the side effect of showing Catra the rather long scars along her back, causing the feline to freeze up. "I...I didn't realize I left scars… those look bad..." she said, her voice full of guilt.

"Yeah… They never did heal up." Adora admitted, beginning to dress. "How did your nose heal?"

"It healed fine, but still..." Catra gently touched the scars, remembering when she gave them to Adora. "I am so sorry Adora..."

"Don't be." Adora replied, getting her white shirt on. "We both didn't handle that very well." Adora then grabbed her old red jacket, stitched up after the fight, and threw it on.

Catra looked it over. "Looks good on ya Adora, where'd you get that?" She asked.

"Natasha." Adora replied with a grin. "First time I've worn it in years actually. Still fits like a glove." She patted her friend on the shoulder and left the bathroom. "I'm gonna make some coffee for when you come out." she yelled behind her.

Adora began making the coffee as she heard the shower running. For someone who hated water Catra sure enjoyed her long showers. By the time she heard the shower stopping she'd already brewed a full pot, and soon enough Catra came out of the shower...poofed up again. Adora had to stifle a laugh as Catra gave her a 'Don't say a word' glare and sat down at the coffee table. She'd changed into a red tank top and maroon, slightly torn sweatpants. Like usual, she didn't wear any shoes, not that Adora could blame her. She could only imagine how uncomfortable shoes would be with how big Catra's claws were.

"Coffee's done Catra." Adora said, pouring herself a cup and one for Catra. "What do you take in it?"

"Two sugar, and a LOT of cream." Catra replied, with Adora mixing up her coffee and passing it over. "What do we have to eat in this place? I'm assuming you eat better shit than those Rations we had in the Followers." She deadpanned. Adora smirked and responded with a plate of Bacon and Eggs.

"Enjoy, Catra. It's real food." Adora said with a smile before plating up herself. Before she even sat down to eat, she noticed Catra was already halfway through her breakfast and quickly scarfing it down. "I take it you like it?" she deadpanned.

Catra turned bright red and nodded. "More please?" she asked, giving Adora her kitten eyes.

Adora laughed slightly, "On the stove. I'm terrified that you can still do those eyes." she commented, remembering how often the younger Catra would get her way by giving her the cute eyes. "Seriously, how do you manage that, it's like they INFLATE."

"I can make them even worse Adora." Catra smugly said, "Next time I'll add a quivering lip."

Adora got a slightly nervous face and put her hands up. "Yeah please don't."

After breakfast, the two went out for a walk around town. Catra was a bit embarrassed at how many weird looks she was getting. Nobody said anything mind you, which Catra chalked up to walking with a famous Avenger. But it was clear people were surprised to see the five foot tall cat walking around. Occasionally people would stop Adora to ask for her autograph or thank her for fighting off the Chitauri. It was honestly a bit overwhelming for Catra. "Guess being an Avengers makes you some kinda celebrity, huh Adora?"

Adora rubbed her head slightly, embarassed. "W-well yeah we did fight off an Alien invasion." She sheepishly admitted, "I mean, I guess I gotta expect some praise from it. I was just doing my job."

"And your job involves fighting fucking aliens." Catra deadpanned.

"And a creepy shadow demon possessing our mother figure," Adora added prompting Catra to give a 'Yeah true' gesture.

"Even still, that must have been insane to deal with. I mean, the city is STILL rebuilding and finding alien junk." Catra said, motioning around her.

"It was a full force invasion Catra, the fact we've even managed to rebuild is incredible as it is." Adora explained.

As the two were talking, a voice yelled out behind them. "Hey! Super-Girl!" the young, female voice yelled out. Adora's turned around, recognizing the voice immediately, and sure enough, the child she'd rescued in New York ran over. The first thing Adora noticed was the pink highlights she'd put in her hair, and the boy walking with her.

"Oh hey, It's you again." Adora said with a smile. She turned to Catra, "I rescued this girl during the battle." she explained.

"I don't think I introduced myself. My name is Kira Moon" the young girl said with a smile. "This is my friend Bow."

"Uh...Hi there." The byo said nervously, "Kira you didn't tell me you knew an Avenger!"

"Well..I don't exactly know her..." Kira sheepishly admitted. "So who's the big cat?" shje asked curiously.

"This is my friend Catra." Adora replied.

"Is she an Avenger too?"

"Yes I am." Catra said, somewhat proudly. "Brand new member."

"Cool!" Kira yelled out, running over and looking around Catra. "Oh wow you've got a tail too! Your claws are so sharp! Your fur looks so smooth!" She began rambling, causing Catra to become highly flustered.

"Hey uh Kira, I think you're freaking her out." Bow quickly spoke up, gently pulling his friend back. "It was nice to meet you two."

"Likewise." Adora said with a smile as Kira was calmly dragged away. "We're probably gonna be seeing her around a lot, Catra. How're you holding up." She asked her now thoroughly flustered best friend.

"That was...an interesting experience. How old is she, like five?" Catra asked, calming down and continuing to walk with Adora.

"She looks more like 12. Sure doesn't act like it." Adora commented as they walked. "Reminds me of Emily actually."

Catra's ears drooped slightly. "Yeah… I still feel terrible about using her like I did..." she said sadly.

"You got her away from the Followers. Don't feel too bad." Adora told her, putting an arm around her shoulder.

"I suppose so...I just wish I knew where she went..." Catra admitted. "She called me a good friend while I was manipulating her and driving her away from the base." Catra wiped at her eyes sadly. I just hope she's okay."

Adora pulled her friend closer, attempting to comfort her. "Come on Catra, let's go out for lunch, it'll be nice and relaxing?"

Elsewhere…

Emily welded another piece of Chitauri metal onto her little project, her Hair grabbing a few more pieces to work on. She was presently surprised that her teleporter had been so successful. It allowed her to teleport back and forth between the now defunct Followers base and her new hideout, letting her collect more of the tech she had previously built her robots out of. IT also let her go and grab food from the cities, so she didn't really have anything to worry about but her work. And her new goal was firm in her mind.

If Aliens had technology like this, then she wanted to try and contact more, and get her hands on more elaborate technology to play with.

Back in New York…

Catra and Adora had managed to find a rather nice little Cafe not too far from where they had been walking, and were enjoying a fairly good lunch with coffee. Adora was fidgeting a bit in her seat as they ate, figuring this setting would be the perfect time to finally tie things together with Catra. But being Adora, she just couldn't spit it out.

"So… Thanks for letting me stay with you Adora. The Apartment's nice." Catra said, also being a bit fidgety.

"Yeah it is….did you like your lunch?" Adora replied.

"O-oh yeah it was good. Need help covering the bill?" Catra asked.

"No I can afford it. SHIELD salary." Adora replied.

Before Adora could finally spit it out, Catra stood up. "We should probably get back. Stark was wanting to give me a tour of the tower." she said.

"A-ah right, yes. I'll cover the Bill, you go on ahead." Adora said sheepishly. Catra quickly walked out of the cafe and Adora gave a defeated sigh.

"You know, I'm not an expert in these things, but that was legitimately painful to listen to." A voice behind her said. She looked around to see an older man in a tan jacket, with his hair having gone grey, a full mustache, and slightly shaded glasses looking at her. "Next time, you should just kiss her you idiot." he said, before turning back to his own coffee. Adora quickly paid and left the cafe to catch up with her friend.

Later that night…

Adora and Catra walked back into the bedroom late at night, tired from the tour and Tony's usual narcissism. Though she was very happy to see her new friends seemingly taking well to Catra's presence. Even Catra was beginning to enjoy being an Avenger. Adora hung her Jacket up in the closet and stretched. "It's pretty late huh, we should probably turn in. Nat and I have a training session in the morning." she explained, yawning. As she turned around, she saw Catra standing, fidgety again and looking at her. "Catra? what's wrong?" she asked.

"Adora I know there was something more you were wanting to talk about at the cafe. I could tell from your face." Catra told her friend. "Something important?"

"W-well yeah.." Adora replied with a blush as Catra got closer. "I just...well...I uh...I-" Adora kept tripping over herself as she tried to explain herself. Eventually, Catra just got fed up and the next thing Adora knew, Catra leaned forward and kissed her on the lips. Everything seemed to slow down for the few precious seconds their lips were locked before Catra pulled away.

"Was that what you wanted to say?" Catra asked, quietly.

"Yes it was….do it again?" Adora replied through her blush. Catra gave her catlike smile and the two embraced and kissed once more, falling over onto the bed. Nothing mattered at this point for either of them.

Nothing But the two of them…
