Chapter 10
Well here we go my first update on this story in quite a while. Part of it is this chapter gives some answers to Riley and I made a change from who some figures in Riley's backstory are. For those curious I did see All Out and loved it. Not so happy with what I hear about with the backstage stuff but that is another story. Like I away try to do in these notes I thank you all for reading. I think those of you who put me on alert and favorite lists. Extra grateful for any reviews I get.
Riley had figured at some point he would be forced to sit in front of a bunch of people and tell his life story. He just thought it would be a jury or maybe FBI agents. Instead, it was a group of vampires. He looked over at Liv he had already told most of this. "Start when ever you are ready?" Sonya says. Mandy gives her a look before saying "Calm down." "I'll calm down when I don't feel we are in danger of being exposed. All because of him," Sonya says. "Exposed? I don't think Zack would expose him," Kip says. "Yeah, it would cutting his own throat," Penelope adds. "Its not about Zack although I bet Zack's attack was caused by our risk of getting exposed," Sonya rants. "What did he do?" Malaki asks looking at Riley. "I swear when I'm not making a joke when I say this. But I was born. My father was a small hood who worked for the mob. In a movie he would be the guy killed by the hero with ease. But nah he managed to hold on went in and out of jail," Riley says.
"What about your mother?" Mandy asks. "She and the old man met when they were in school. I always think she started dating him to piss off her family. Than she wound up with me. They got married and a few years later they had my sister. And yes I lied about having a sister," Riley says. "You lied about a lot of things," Sonya interrupts. "I am so confused. Sonya who do you think he is?" Gigi asks. "I know who he is... he's a hitman wanted by the FBI," Sonya says. "The FBI, The NYPD, The LAPD, Interpol, the list goes on," Riley says dead serious. "Wait, just wait. I'm confused. You're a hitman? Like a real hitman? Kills for the money hitman?" Kip asks. "Twenty eight times," Riley finally says. "Is that why you were in that alley?" Penelope asks. "I was in that alley because I stopped," Riley says. "What is that supposed to mean?" Sonya asks. "I was driven not to be a loser like my father. I wanted to go past anything he ever did. And he was driven to make sure I was better off. He pushed me he trained me. He introduced me to the so called right people," Riley says before pausing for a second and taking a breath.
"One day one of the bosses needed someone to die. They figured why not have Rob Morgan's kid do it. The old man was in jail again. My sister was trying to get into college. All these years I clung to that. I was helping my sister. And they were in the mob not like I was going after saints. I justified it more by having my rules. Oh my rules made what I was doing okay. I would never hurt innocent person... Than I wound up killing a pregnant woman. And I had to face the facts. I was a killer who did it because I wanted money, I wanted power, I wanted to rub in the face of my loser of an old man," Riley thinks. "That woman you killed; she was Zack's wife?" Malakai asks. "The target was his father. I was told he would be traveling along. I set a bomb. I saw it take out the limo. And I watched ready to strike if target had survived. Than I saw Saber Jr running for the limo and he pulled her out," Riley says. "Every second he is here we are in danger," Sonya claims. "What did you after you...well after?" Gigi can't finish she's in shock. Riley starts to think. He thinks about it all. It's than his powers kick in and he winds up projecting his thoughts to everyone in the room. It's different than in the past. This time instead of just words they saw visuals.
"Now I don't think you understand what you just said to me!" The boss says angerly. The body guard knowing his boss put a very firm hand on Riley's shoulder. Riley pulled it away and shot a look that could kill at the bodyguard. "I know exactly what I said. I don't work for you anymore Chris!" Riley says. The boss Chris Jericho gets up and gets right in Riley's face and points a finger. "Don't do anything stupid. You have benefited a lot from my generosity! But you also know what happens when I stop being generous," Jericho warns. "And you know I'm not stupid Chris," Riley responded. "Meaning what?" Jericho says. "Mutual assured destruction," Riley says.
The scene shifted to a penthouse. Riley is packing a suitcase. "I don't want to hear it Adam. I know how dangerous it is," Riley says putting a gun in his waste band. "Then why do it? You are going to pay a price," Adam says. "Because if I run they will worry about chasing me and what I have over going after Britt," Riley says. "But you don't have anything on him," Adam says. "Oh yes I do. I'm not an idiot and Chris likes to brag way too much. A lot of people want my head but want Chris," Riley claims. "And what about Britt?" Adam asks worried about his girlfriend. "My dad a nothing but he had a few friends. Jericho knows if he kills Rob's little girl it will cost to much. He goes after me I'm just another guy in the mob. Britt..." Before they can finish the door opens. "Riley you here.. oh hey baby," Britt says seeing Adam. There is some talk until Adam leaves the brother and sister alone.
"So what's up?" Riley asks. "I know you said no more match making..." "Out of luck sis," Riley interrupts. "Look Riley she is a great woman. And it's been to long since you had a date," Britt claims. "I have dates just no one worth seeing again. But that is besides the point I am going on little trip," Riley says. "Wait you are taking a vacation? Not just going out of town for work... who are you and what have you done with my brother?" Britt asks. "Hard har har. No wonder you are dentist and not a standup comic. Look feel free to use this place while I'm away... I love you sis," Riley says pulling her into a hug.
The scene shifted once again. This time it was the run warehouse where Liv had turned Riley. Riley was pacing and checking his watch. The sound of a door opening is heard. "Put the gun away Morgan!" A female voice says. "You alone?" Riley asks still holding his gun up. "Yes I'm alone. Look Morgan our deal is still in place you give me the evidence and I will get you into witness protection. Do you have the files?" Riley reached into the jeans he was wearing and pulled out a flash drive. "On this you will find all kind of banking information on Jericho boy. "So that is what you had on the boss," A deep voice says. Riley turns and sees Chris' bodyguard a large man simply known as Jake Hager was entering.
Behind Hager were four men. A young thing guy known was Daniel Garcia, another young guy was next to Garcia was a favorite of Jericho's known as Sammy Guevara. Two older men Parker and Menard were behind them with guns aimed. "Sorry Morgan those are teh breaks," The woman says taking the drive before and handing it to Hager. "Good work Anna," Hager says as he takes it and crushes the drive. Menard laughs. "Jokes on you guys all that was on that thing was some bootlegs of some movies. I am not paying money to see a Marvel movie these days boys," Riley says. "He's bluffing," Menard says in tone that is clear he isn't sure. "Even if I am dumbass, it's a copy of a computer file. They are easy to make," Riley says. The men exchanged looks knowing he was right.
As they are distracted Riley pulls his gun back out and fires. It's not his best shot but he catches Parker in the shoulder. The other's dive out of the way. "That was stupid Morgan," Hager yells. Riley stays low and is moving for an exit. He sees movement on the left and turns. It was a huge mistake right away something hits Riley in the back of the head. "You stupid prick! Guys I got him!" Sammy yells. Riley struggles to get but he's dazed, and Sammy just kicks him again. The others decened on Riley like vultures. Riley tries to fight back but has no chance with the numbers. Garcia gets Riley in a front choke and gets him to drop the floor. They pull him back to his feet and pin him to the wall. Hager punches Riley right in the face. "Okay Riley you can be an idiot or you can be smart for once. Tell us what exactly you have on the boss and where you are keeping it," Hager says.
Menard slaps Riley. "Say something!" He yells. "Your boss is an idiot!" Riley yells. Hager grabs a pipe and strikes Riley in the body several times. Riley stops moving blood comes out of his mouth form internal injuries. "You killed him," Sammy says. "Who cares the boss wanted him dead at some point. Get his phone, his wallet and anything. We got to see if he's actually got evidence. Parker call the you know who to clean this up," Hager orders. The other go over Riley's body and grab his gun along with any weapons they used. "Yeah the address we talked about... You want us to leave got it," Parker says into a phone. "Leave with that still here?" Sammy says pointing at Riley's body. "The man says leave," Parker confirms. "Let's go than," Hager says.
The mobsters leave. Riley has been lying face down and flips over to his back. He is badly beat up blood pouring out of his mouth. Eventually Liv enters the building. "What happened to you?" Liv says finding Riley. He takes her hand and looks her in the eye. "I don't want to die yet!" "It will be okay," Liv says. Riley looks at her and weakly repeats. "I don't want to die yet." "Alright just hold on," Liv says as she bares her fangs.
The visuals of Riley's thoughts finally end. For a second everyone is silent. Finally, it's Riley who speaks. "I wanted to live. I had forgotten that," he says more to himself than anyone else. "Alright time is up he needs to get out of here," Sonya says. "What exactly has changed?" Liv asks. "He's a murder! And he's being chased by law enforcement. Rule one has always been don't draw attention, don't put ourselves at risk of being exposed. He does that," Sonya insisted. "There is also the fact we need Finn's coven and they are likely to side with Zack over us if we have Riley," Malakai adds. "Finally someone else talking sense and agreeing with me," Sonya says. "I didn't say I agree with you. I just want everything laid out we must consider," Malaki says. "What is there to consider? He said he would leave," Sonya yells. "But what has changed? Riley's been with us for months. It sounds like the human world thinks he's dead," Liv claims. "And Zack?" Sonya reminds her.
"Didn't Mandy take care of Zack?" Kip asks. They all turn to her except Riley who is looking out the window. "For now I have. I had him forget it doesn't mean he can be reminded or learn abou tit some other way. I should of learned how he found about Riley's past. Although I have some guesses," Mandy says. Sonya is still frustrated. "I saw we take a vote do we expel Riley or not?" "A vote I am leader of this Coven and I say he stays," Mandy yells. "But he is putting us in danger," Gigi says. "Exactly," Jacy follows up. Mandy is about to say something but Riley speaks first. "You said once if I wanted to leave, I was free to. It's clear its for the best of everyone that I leave." "Where would you go?" Mandy asks. "I'll figure it out," Riley claims. "Isn't letting him leave more dangerous. What if he gets caught? And they try to track us down," Penelope points out. "The girl makes a point," Malaki follows up. "It's more dangerous to have him with us and I don't know we are debating this he is willing to leave," Sonya reminds them.
Liv look over at the clock. "Yeah well sunrise is in a few minutes. He can't leave now," Liv says. "She's right. At the very least Riley you are staying here a few more hours," Mandy says. "Gives me some time to plan," Riley says as he exits the room and heads up stairs. "I say we take that vote," Malakai says. "What for, he said he was leaving," Sonya responded. "Indulge my curiosity. So you vote he's gone Sonya?" "Of course I do." "And Liv easy to assume you want him to stay?" Malakai asks. "Yes," Liv says. "Don't bother asking me I abstain," Mandy interrupts. "Jacy and Gigi?" Sonya asks. "Out," they says at the same time. "Well Kip and I say if he changes his mind and wants to stay we are fine," Penelope says. "Well Malaki if this a vote that mattered you would want him out right? You know we can't be to careful," Sonya says. "I say you are quick to judge given you own history. If we tossed out killers you would of been gone a long time ago," Malaki reminds her.
