Ming POV
I Heard Mei yelling out in anger."HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO MY BEST FRIEND?'' "DO YOU EVEN KNOW HER?" She Screamed."IT'S A SUPERPOWER I HAVE NOW STOP LYING I KNOW WHAT YOU DID YOU LITTLE JERKWAD!". She yelled after a boy asked her about her panda. "THAT DOESN'T GIVE YOU AN EXCUSE TO HURT MY BEST FRIEND" She cried. I run over to see what is going on. "Mei '' I ask, getting her attention. "Yes mother," She replied. "What happened to Mei?" I asked. "This kid just hurt Miriam on purpose,'' she said. I looked at the boy irritated. "I'll deal with you later," I stated. Miriam was not ok. She could barely breathe, said she couldn't feel anything, and that her hands were tingly. I called an ambulance and the police. Once they came, put her on oxygen and gave her an I.V. "Mei?" I said, getting her attention. "Yes, mother," she responded. "Let's Follow the ambulance there. I've called her mother and she is on her way" I stated. "Ok Mom," She replied. "Let's go". As We headed to our car the police arrived. They questioned us and then arrested the boy.
When we got to the hospital. Miriam's Mother Savanna and her older brother Tobias had already made it. Their faces were drenched with tears. I assumed the worst had happened. I walk over to them and engulf them both in a big hug. "I'm so sorry you guys, that's all I can say. Did you get to say your goodbyes"? "Can Mei say goodbye?" I asked. "No Miriam is just fine. It's just just" Savanna stuttered. "What"? I asked. Savanna took a deep breath and continued "She is now paraplegic" she choked. "Omg, I'm so sorry do you know how bad it is" I questioned. She showed me the documents. "She's a T2 but it's so severe they can't treat it". "She will never walk ever again." She stated. "Have they told Miriam yet?" I asked. "No not yet I kinda thought Before I tell her she and Mei could visit for a while?" She replied. "Sure of course Mei would love to let me go get her," I responded. "Oh also if you won't tell Mei the extremity of her injury please." "They want me to deliver the news" She petitioned. "Of course I understand," I replied. "Thank you Ming" She replied
I walked over to get Mei, "Hey Mei?" I asked. "How is she mom?" she asked. "Miriam will be ok honey I promise." "Her mother says you can visit for a while," I said. "Sure Mom but how badly is she hurt?" She asked. "Mei we will talk about it later just right now just go in and talk to her ok?" I replied. "Ok Mom" She obeyed.
While Miriam and Mei were chatting I walked over to Tobias and started talking to him. "How are you doing Tobias?" I asked. "I'm ok but Miriam has had a rough go at it lately." " Her diabetes diagnosis and now this". He sighed. "I can't imagine how scary it has been," I replied. "Thanks," he replied. He and I had a good conversation for 20 minutes. "Tobias, I think it's time to tell Miriam the news," Savanna stated. Tobias nodded his head. I grabbed Mei and we started heading home.
Heading Home I told Mei about Miriam's injury. " So Mei," I said. She looked over at me. "Miriam has something called a Spinal cord injury." "Do you know what that is?". Mei nodded "We learned about it in health class. How bad is it"? She asked. "It's severe she will not be able to walk ever again," I said. "That doesn't matter, she will still be my best friend," she replied. I smiled knowing how much of a sweet daughter I have.
