Savanna POV

It's been a week since Miriam's Terrible accident and her surgery. She has not been doing well. She has barely eaten and has been vomiting profusely for the last 5 days. The poor girl can't keep anything down and they had to give her a second IV to keep her hydrated and give her pain meds. She has lost 35 pounds and is terrifyingly skinny. Unfortunately, the doctors have to put a feeding tube in her nose today and she has to have it in until she gains all her weight back. The doctors say she will have to have it in for 3 months! Thankfully the doctors told both Miriam and me two days ago and we found a sitter for the little kids so Tobias can come to support Miriam during the process.

When Tobias came he brought Leah with him. "Oh Hi, Leah I'm glad you decided to come as well" I stated. "My big sister needs support during this procedure" "She always helps and calms me down when I'm scared". Leah replied. "Aww how sweet Leah I'm sure she appreciates it" I applauded. Tobias walks over to Miriam and hugs her. "Have they told you what they are doing yet?" He asked. Miriam nodded nervously. "It'll be ok I promise you" He said. Miriam took a deep breath. "There you go, just breathe," Tobias said. Miriam took another deep breath. They will be coming in to put it in at 11 am. It was 10:51 sharp.

KNOCK-KNOCK. I ran to open the door for the nurses. "Hi, Guys she's ready but very nervous." "We can help with that." A nurse replied. She walked to Miriam's bed as Miriam nervously played with her braids. "Hi Miriam, I'm your nurse for today," She said in a calming tone. "I Heard you're super nervous and that's ok." She stated. "How can we make this an easier process for you?" She asked. Miriam didn't respond; she just nervously pulled apart her braids. "Would you like for me to show you the process of this visual?" She asked. Miriam finally nodded. The Nurse showed Miriam the visual and explained everything. "So First we measure the tube" "I will touch the tube to your nose but I promise I won't put it in this just helps me know where to mark your tube for placement." "Then I will put a special gel on the tube." "This just helps it slide down". "Then we will have to place your tube down your throat and to your stomach it will be very uncomfortable but I promise it won't hurt ''. She explained. Miriam Then took a deep breath and gave a thumbs up. "I'm ready," She said. Leah, Tobias, and I all walk over to Miriam's bed. "Oh and Miriam please let me know if you need a break." She stated. Miriam nodded. The nurse started to slide the tube down Miriam's throat. We all held and hugged her as the nurse slid it down. Tobias wiped tears off Miriam's cheek. Miriam wasn't crying, the tube just made her eyes water when it was stuck up her nose. "All done Miriam you did awesomely and I have a special surprise for you." The nurse showed Miriam a bracelet string and some beads. "These are bravery beads". They are for kids that come in with serious illnesses and Injuries. You have shown such bravery the past few days you earned one. "Here are the letters of your name". "These translucent blue ones are for the pokes you got." "This maroon one is for ICU Admission." "The fish is for surgery." "The Airplane is for the feeding tube you just got." "Since you were so brave during your tube insertion you get a lion for your courage." She explained. "Oh so cool thank you" Miriam said in excitement. The nurse smiled and left the room. Miriam put her bravery beads together.

At noon the nurse came back in and started Miriam's First feed. She asked Miriam what she wanted to do while she got her feed. Miriam said she just wanted to take a nap. The nurse nodded and left the room. I turned off the lights and Miriam closed her eyes.

After an hour had passed the nurse back in and disconnected her feed. Miriam slept through the whole thing. She was at peace and that's all that matters.
