Taking place only one week after the incident at the 4*TOWN town concert. Miriam starts noticing extreme thirst and low appetite. She thinks she's fine until she passes out in the middle of math class and wakes up in the hospital and hears the news that'll change her life forever.

13. Chapter 12

Miriam POV

Today was the first day of school. I frowned as I heard my alarm beeping. I then get in my wheelchair and roll myself in my bathroom. I brush my teeth and floss them.I then wheel myself over to the kitchen and mash an avocado and make myself a smoothie. I roll over to the table and deliver my insulin. "Good Morning Miriam '' Tobias greeted. "Good Morning" I yawned. "Are you ready for high school?" He asked. I shook my head. "Not when I look like this' ' I stated. "Miriam remember your tube will be out in less then a month." He assured me. "Thank Gosh I've had this thing in for too long". "It will go fast" He comforted me. I nodded. "We need to leave at 7:30." He explained. "Ok" I replied. He would be taking me everyday since he went to school there as well.

When we got to school I looked at Tobias nervously. "Hey It's going to be ok." "Kids here won't say a thing." He Promised. "Ok," I responded. We then went in. I see my friends right away. They all ran quickly to me. "Miriam" Mei squealed. "You're here!" Abby exclaimed. "Hi Miriam," Tyler smiled. "I'm so glad you could make it!" Priya cried. The warning bell rang and we went together to our first class. Even though only Mei and I had the first class together. I got uncomfortable stares as I rolled down the hall. Mei and I went into our first class which was history. As Mei pushed my wheelchair to our table I noticed a girl staring at me. I frowned because Shelby was the most nosy girl in the 9th grade. The girl who asked Mei "What's with her" The day she got her panda. "What happened to her?" She asked in a snotty tone. " What happened to your face?" Mei Snapped. I frowned and buried my head into the table. "Hey, don't let her get to you." Mei rubbed my back. The teacher walked in and the bell rang for class to start. He gave out the syllabus and went over it. He then told us we would be playing getting to know you games. We all sighed. We all hated getting to know you games. Our teacher explained the rules. It was guess who. "So how this works is that you get 3 pieces of paper and you write one fact on each piece of paper." "Then I will read each one off and you will try to guess the person it belongs to. He gave us 10 minutes to write our facts. I wrote my 3 facts and handed them to the teacher. So did Mei.

When the 10 minutes was up the teacher started to read them off. "This Person can turn into a Red Panda." He read off the paper. "MEI!" everyone shouted. "Ok this person loves Aaron T. From 4*Town" He said. Mei raised her hand. "Yes." The teacher responded. "It's my best friend Miriam." She answered. We kept playing and then the bell finally rang. The next class was Math. I was with Abby and Tyler for this class. The teacher just went over the syllabus and just let us talk the rest of the class. The next class was Writing. I was unfortunately alone for this one. The teacher went over the syllabus and let us talk. It was finally time for lunch. I wheeled myself over to the nurses office and she checked my blood sugar and started my feed. I then went into the cafeteria and sat with my friends. We chatted and ate our lunch. The bell rang and we had two more classes.

The first class after lunch was reading. I was also alone for this class. I wheeled myself to my desk and took a deep breath and then heard a familiar voice. "So I See you friend is not here to defend you tell me why you're in a wheelchair and have a tube in your nose" It was Shelby. "I don't want to talk about ok Shelby. I responded. "You're obviously hiding something" She taunted. I shook my head. "Tell me why you look so sick NOW!" She demanded. "SHELBY MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!" My teacher shouted. Shelby rolled her eyes and walked back to her seat.

My final class was Art with Priya. I wheeled myself in the art room. Priya then walked in and sat by me. All seemed to be going well until I saw Shelby come in. I Groaned and hung my head back. "Miriam what's wrong, are you ok?" Priya asked. It's Shelby she has to ask me about My wheelchair and feeding tube and it makes me uncomfortable" I whined. "Just answer me Miriam it's not that hard '' Shelby snipped. "HEY LEAVES HER ALONE AND STOP PRYING OK?" Priya yelled. Shebly scoffed and stomped to her table. The teacher came in and went over the syllabus and gave us paper to draw our favorite things on. She wasn't grading us she just let us do it for fun. When the bell rang I quickly rolled myself outside. Tobias then found me. "Hi Mir, how was your first day of highschool." He asked. I sighed heavily and didn't answer. He looked at my distraught face and frowned. "Did you get stared at?" He questioned. "Yes and I got nosy questions from a girl, '' I replied. "I see ''' He nodded. He then started his car and drove me home.

When we got home my mother was in the kitchen making Hanna a snack. "Hey Miriam, tell me everything." She requested. I told her about everything. "I'm so sorry Miriam I'm sure you were uncomfortable." She frowned. I nodded. "Well Miriam I'm about to pick up Leah and Brian. Do you want to come with" She wondered. Leah and Brian were at 2 different schools but they got out at the same time. I shook my head. "Ok" She respected my decision. She then left with Hanna to pick up Leah and Brian. I then wheel myself into my room and transfer to my bed. I remember what Tobias said this morning. I only had 4 more weeks with the feeding tube.
