When I heard the knock on the door that cold December night; I couldn't help but feel something fall in my stomach. When I saw it was another policeman with his hat off and his solemn look I knew then what had happened.
I knew you were gone…
The man I loved was gone… never to return.
When Aaron asked what was wrong I panicked. Yet I always knew our boy was a smart one I couldn't lie to him, nor tell him that everything was going to be fine…
Yet I still did… I lied to him. I told him that you were doing special work… that you wouldn't be home for some time…
But eventually came the day I was forced to tell him the truth; when I told him you weren't coming home anymore.
I still remember his reaction. He was quiet for the longest time, his eyes hidden by his bangs. As I kneeled in front of him I took him into my arms. That was when I could hear him begin to sniffle and looked to see his eyes begin to tear and go puffy.
He looked like he was going to break at any moment. By the time we had gotten to the funeral, he was still crying. It was as if he was a never-ending waterfall.
But as your coffin was presented and those guns fired… I was astounded when I looked down to see that Aaron had stopped crying and had in fact saluted your coffin as you passed us by. It was as if he knew he had to be strong. For his own sake or mine… I still do not know.
After the funeral and so much support from the department; even then it was so hard… without you around there was nothing for me to anchor to…
But then… I found your letter. Telling us to be strong, and most of all to be strong for our son, Aaron.
I knew then that I had to step up; that as the only one left I had to take care of our son and raise him to be a good; no, a better person then we had already. As the days went on I forced back my tears in front of Aaron for his sake.
I threw myself into my work at the lab and clinic. The thought of Aaron's smiling face always crowded my mind and was the one thing that kept me going. His infectious smile and laughter made me strong; I knew I had to be strong for him too…
My dear husband… I know that we can bever be together again. But I will fulfill my promise to you…
I'll be strong for Aaron; I'll be twice as strong for him…
And that's also why… were going back to where it all began…

AN#1 – Well welcome to the second prologue of my new Clannad story, The Light In Your Heart", and to start off I should preface that this story was inspired by PSYLOD V's A Shadow's Journal and I will never stop reminding of how much of an influence he was on me to write this.
