Chapter 13- Pain
Hiccup POV
It was a long night Him and Toothless were at it for a while and he was exhausted his family was ok so he trudged back from the forest after landing at his hut back into the village , he was surprised to look Apon a giant battle field houses burnt to the ground families searching for their belongings others gathering their fallen mourners everything, Must have been really bad there hadn't been a raid this terrible in a long time here on berk or any of the islands he had visited he just hoped Astrid was safe but he needed to drop by the forge first
As he approached he noticed it looked to be closed the normally open hatch shut with little streams of light slipping through the old wood boards, presumably from the fire, usually after a raid it would be crawling with Vikings needing repairs or people picking up their weapons but the scene was empty its finally hit him that a lot of the villagers weren't around he saw a couple walking up towards the Hall
Shouldn't they be cleaning up?
Where are the warriors?
Where is Stoick?
Where is Astrid?
Many questions began to plague his brain he didn't know what to think it was strange to see the village this empty, only when special events where to happen, but what could be so special about today? There were no holidays coming soon Snoggletog wasn't for a few months
Stoicks Birthday? Nah that wouldn't be for a long time either
Maybe an engagement? But who? Usually this would be for something like the chief or heir...but Snot wasn't getting engaged right? And if he was to whom? Finally he shoved it all out of his head and focused on getting Sindri and he knocked on the wood door
"Gobber you in?"-he shouted hopping to catch his attention he knew he would be maybe working or being down half a barrel of mead but he heard the grunting and his peg leg on the old creaky floor boards and the door came open
"Aye there ya are laddie didn know when yer be back in"
"Ah yea sorry just got busy but I was hoping I could come by and pick up Sindri unless maybe Astrid already did?"-he could see the old man grimace at the name and he sighed and looked around
"Look Laddie we need ter talk"
"About what everything ok?"
He didn't like Gobbers tone did something happen to Sindri? Or even Astrid? He sighed again then moved from the door for him to enter the forge looked exactly the same from when he was a kid the bellows and grind stone in the exact same spot swords axes and maces all piled up in the corner and his little workshop in the back, but for some reason the door was shut with faint light emitting from under it
"So Gobber what seems to be up your acting strange tonight"-he heard the man huff then turn with the door shut and...locked?
"Alright out with et Hiccup I know its yer"-he stood frozen how? No no I was careful hod did he...
"Look lad yer basically my nephewer I know yer better then anyone even if yer grown all big en strong yer still me apprentice, falling for Astrid? Eh coincidence maybe, taking on Snot after all he did to yer it only made sense and picking up a young bullied boy and protecting him well that only confirmed my suspicions!"-Hiccup was frozen solid man Hes got me down to a science he slowly unbuckled his helmet and stook it off resting it on the table next to him
"heh yea got me Gobber I knew I couldn't hide from you for to long ya meathead lunatic!"-Gobber smiled then gave him a bone crushing hug
"Gobber...AIR!"-he dropped him and hiccup stumbled trying to reclaim air into his lungs
"Aye yer deserve it what ya get for disappearing for five years!"-hiccup only shook his head so that's what he told you
"I see the weapons are a little backed up you getting lazy?"-"Hah! Yer think? Why do ya think I needed a new aprentice!"-that's when all his excitement vanished, he really did like that Gobber knew because he was almost like a father to him and it killed him to not tell hm, but he then realized why he was in this situation In the first place
"Oh yea now that you mention it where is your apprentice anyways"-Gobber then seemed to deflate and sadden
"aye the lad well...he aint to happy right now he um hes in yer workshop...pretty upset yer may wanna talk to em"-Hiccups face went into a Stoick look and turned on his heels without another word and walked to the door and slowly opening it with a creak
"Gobber..'snif'...Go away I don't wanna talk..."-he could tell the boy had been crying he was in a chair laying at Hiccups old desk with his head laid on it facing away from him
"Its me Sindri.."-he seem to perk up he turned and saw Hiccup, and he almost broke the kid was pale with tear streaks all down his face with even more unshed tears in his read puffy eyes Sindri hopped down from the chair and almost tackled Hiccup and cried into his shoulder
"she..'Snif'..Lied to me...to you dad..."-Hiccup was slightly confused he turned back to Gobber and saw his shoulder slumped and face downcast but the boy continued-"she...k-kissed the bad man...she isnt s-supposed to do that...r-right?...she said she loved you.."
Hiccup then started to put together the pieces in his brain..She? Loved Him..Well that must be Astrid...but Kissed...the bad man...Then it all clicked the bad man must have been Snotlout...Astrid kissed snot? But why but.. That means they're engaged now...she broke the agreement...
Sindri kept crying into his shoulder and Gobber walked forward and laid his hand on his other-"i know its hard lad..I saw it to she never pulled...away..."-Hiccup was speechless so she lied to him...she didn't really want him huh...she just wanted her friend back for little bit then she dropped him aside again...all over again...
Sindri then spoke words that almost made him cry-"if she l-lied about l-loving you then...D-did she ever love me..?"-hiccup pulled him close then kissed his head
"No bud no...she just..didn't love me back is all...i bet she still loves you.."-"but then I don't w-want her to love me..S-she cant love my dad then...she cant love me either.."-hiccup was sad but also proud his own father cared about the villages opinion more then he did about him and instead of doing what Sindri did well he gave up on him he never cared, Hiccup could tell Sindri was falling asleep his crying stopped and his shaky breathes slowly evened out Hiccup slowly stood and turned to Gobber
"aye lad I'm sorry..i know yer loved her and well I'm sorry I couldn't help more.."-"no you did good I'm glad he was with you...I know he was in good hands. Well hand"-they bot smirked and nodded to each other as Hiccup walked out the forge and made his way to the edge of the Forrest to see Toothless waiting patiently for him, he climbed onto his saddle and flew off into the night back to his hut
He was only tunneled on one Emotion one thought...
Pain
He hurt, he gave her everything but she didn't want it clearly...he still wasn't enough...still that Skinny Useless Auburn fishbone he once was the one he tried to get rid of but seemed to still be messing with his life to this day so he made it to his hut sadly no sleeping blonde in his bed this time and made his way to the bed and let Sindri sleep while he sat by the fire staring into it deep in thought while day soon leaked its way into the night Sky
That's painful just writing that was making tear up a little I just wanted to let you all know there references to thing that really don't make sense right now and that's because it all has happened in the past and it just hasn't been explained like The reason he left Or Again?
