Clannad – The Light In Your Heart

A Familiar Song…

This time I cannot see the girl…

This time it's just me…

But this time… I can hear something…

A voice… a gentle one…

Something soft… something…

Nostalgic…

…Waving down and watching over…

Moon up in the sky…

…all the happiness and all the sadness…

Bringing them all together…

Aaron wakes up just as his alarm brings him away from his lucid dream. As he slowly stretches himself and gets up he turns to see the clock at blinking at 7 AM sharp.

While last night his thoughts were squared away on what happened at school he can't help but be sucked away by that song he heard in his dreams, and that memory too…

What was that thing? That plushie…

He wanted to ask his mother, but then he remembered… today was the day when she allowed to go back to work at the hospital.

With no answers to any of his questions, Aaron caught up and ready for the day to come focusing on his second day at his new school.

"That dream, that plush, a fight at school, new people… barely been a day and things are already… interesting…"

Finally ready and packed for the day Aaron headed out and began the long walk to school. However just as he was enjoying the peaceful walk it was disturbed by the sound of what seemed to be… a motorbike?

Aaron turned to look but just as he did he saw said biker coming straight at him as they yelled out, "Hey, new kid! Get out of the waaaaaay!"

Aaron's instincts took over and he rolled out of the way just in time as he looked to see the perpetrator was indeed a similarly purple haired girl, Kyou Fujibayashi. More specifically, Ryou's sister.

"Oh, not again. Hey, new kid you alright?" Kyou asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine I jumped at the last second before you could hit me." Aaron said as he patted himself.

"Good, I didn't want two accidents on my record after I just got this thing." Kyou replied.

"Wait, aren't you… Ryou's sister, Kyou right?" Aaron inquired.

"Huh, oh yeah that's right I never introduced myself properly did I? The name's Kyou Fujibayashi, you probably remember me from your first day right?" Kyou explained.

"That and then some…" Aaron kept his thoughts to himself but replied, "Wait, why are you on a bike? I thought the rules said - mmph." Aaron had his mouth covered as Kyou looked directly into his eyes with a… smile

"Look her kid I just got this thing last week, you want to keep walking you keep quiet. Got it?" She demanded.

Aaron nodded up and down in agreement as Kyou let go of him.

"Good, now then see you later! Hahaha!" Kyou laughed as she recovered her bike and left Aaron by himself.

"Well she's quite the… character." Aaron said to himself.

"You can say that again." A new voice entered as Aaron turned around to see two new entries.

It was the blonde student who fought Tomoyo, Sunohara. And the other beside him with his case over his shoulder was the blue-haired one, Okazaki.

"You two…" Aaron said remembering them.

"So, you're that kid from America right?" Sunohara said.

"Idiot, just get on with it." Okazaki sounded annoyed.

"Alright, alright… I just wanted to say I'm sorry for yesterday. I shouldn't have said that about you and that girl. I mean your were totally AWESOME! The way you made that biker crash into the fence and send him flying!" Sunohara cheered.

"Even I got to admit, that was pretty impressive. I thought those thugs were dumb, but that took the cake." Okazaki joined in.

"Well it seems from you two I'm talk of the school huh?" Aaron asked.

"Heck yeah, I mean it's not everyday you see a new guy, a foreigner no less stick it to a bunch of things in a fight right?! I'm Sunohara Youhei." Sunohara eventually introduced himself.

"Okazaki Tomoya. We're all in the same class with you." Okazaki did the same.

"Name's Carter Aaron, Nice to meet you guys." Aaron finally joined in. "So I think it's about time we get going right?"

Aaron and the two then began heading down the path to school, as the two "delinquents" walked beside him.

"Hey I got to ask you something. How do you like it here? Do you… hate this town?" Tomoya asked.

"Huh? Well yesterday was my first day then maybe, but I've been here for a while and I've to be honest… I think I'm coming to enjoy it here." Aaron answered.

"Wow…" Tomoya seemed surprised.

"Yeah, I've already had my fair shake of interesting encounters here in this town. It was quite a thing being told we were going to move from the States to Japan, but I think I'm slowly getting used to it." Aaron specified.

"Well then next question; what do you think of the girls here?" Youhei asked.

Aaron was slightly taken aback, "Well… some are kind and gentle… others are violent, but they've got their reasons."

"Well let's just say I've got a bone to pick with one of those violent girls." Youhei's brow furrowed.

"Wait, don't tell me…" Aaron lamented his fate in that moment.

"I'll confess you really are persistent."

On one side were Tomoya, Youhei, and Aaron while standing before them was none other than Tomoyo Sakagami. Aaron couldn't help but cup his forehead in his hand as he seemed to nurse a headache.

"Ooooh, it's official… this guys an idiot…" Aaron groaned.

"Hah, of course I am!" Youhei declared. "I was out of practice the other day."

"And just why is he doing this?" Aaron turned to Tomoya.

"Don't ask me, it's too much of a chore to know what's going on in his head. I'm his closest friend and that's saying something." Tomoya replied.

"Aaron, just what're you doing with these two clowns?" Tomoyo turned and finally spoke to the American.

"Hey, OI just met these two on my walk to school. Just trying to meet new people is all." Aaron shrugged his shoulders. "I'll just call this self-defense for simplicity's sake. But just to sate my morals; Sunohara just give it up you saw what she did to those bikers AND their bikes it isn't worth it."

"Alright fine." Tomoyo shrugged reluctantly agreeing to Youhei's request, " So then are you going to walk away or should I make you unable to walk yourself to school?"

Youhei cringed as Tomoyo's words got to him remembering the beatdown she gave him last time, "Oh dory worry, we'll see who'll be the one that can't come back to school anymore."

"This is about to be a slaughter…" Aaron said to himself.

"You truly are a sorry excuse for a man." Tomoyo said tiredly not wanting to deal with him. "Now then, how about I turn you into something less than human?"

"Y-You think you could do that!?" Youhei's stiffened again as he regained his courage and took a fighting stance "Oh never mind, JUST COME AND FIGHT ME ALREADY!"

Youhei went to charge, but jut as quickly Tomoyo was already underneath him as she began kicking him over and over again this time surpassing her previous record from the other day enough so to keep Sunohara airborne.

Tomoya whistled, "He's really flying."

"One of you! Get the trash chute open!" Tomoyo asked.

"Got it." Aaron said closest to it. Tomoyo delivered one last kick as she landed and Youhei nearly falling into the trash chute if not for the weak grip he hand on the chute, but he could feel himself slipping.

"HELP ME!" Youhei screamed.

"If you let go, you'll fall. What will you do?" Tomoyo asked, but just as soon replied, "So you want to fall? Okay."

I didn't say anything!" Youhei screamed.

Tomoyo then reached as she pulled away one of Youhei's fingers and then he lost what grip he had as the trio heard him fall to the bottom as his screams echoed through as he crashes at the bottom.

"Wasn't that a bit much?" Aaron asked about the barrage of kicks.

"Hah, maybe. I just wish he'd drop this whole charade." Tomoyo said.

"Oh don't worry he's resilient." Tomoya said with a thumbs up, "Hey, you alive down there?!"

"I'M NOT GONNA LET THIS BE THE END OF IT" Youhei's voice echoed back to the top of the chute.

"See?" Tomoya pointed out.

"Even so… you know for some reason seeing you boys like this I feel… nostalgic." Tomoyo says.

"Huh?" Both boys hum in confusion.

"It's nothing. See you later." With that Tomoyo left the two on their own. Eventually both of them went their separate ways. Aaron eventually walked back to the classroom after lunch as he did so the usual activity of high school students was well and alive: gossiping and rumor spreading.

He could hear their whispers, feel their stares; they were all talking about his little act during the fight with those thugs. Even though he never lifted a finger that doesn't stop anyone from running their mouth.

Most of it though surprisingly was positive mostly those who liked having those thugs facing a bit of their own medicine for terrorizing their school. Some equated him to being one as well, but he never gave those people any mind.

Eventually Aaron made it back to his classroom, but just as he sat down he saw Ryou approaching.

"Hi, Aaron." Ryou greeted Aaron with a smile.

"Oh, hey Fujibayashi. How are you doing today?" Aaron replied.

"I-I'm doing fine…" Then to Aaron's surprise Ryou began to tear up while smiling, but it was the former that got everyone's attention.

"No, no, no, no…. Ryou stop, I don't want to be seen as some bully! I also don't want to get beaten up!"

"R-Ryou… are you okay?! Did I do something wrong?" Aaron asked in desperation as he stood from his seat.

"N-No, it's just… *Sob*… I heard that you had gotten into a fight and I didn't know if you got hurt or not so… *Sob*…" Ryou continued to cry.

"W-Well then I'm fine see, all's good. Besides if anything, I think my day was just fine if you ask me. Because of your fortune it almost came true." Aaron said trying to calm her down.

"You mean… your fortune almost came true?" Ryou asked.

"Yeah, not all of it. But I was able to meet new people, and I guess that fight while not the best was the most interesting thing that happened; I mean it's not everyday you find yourself in something like that don't you think?" Aaron suggested.

"Well… I suppose so. Just be careful next time please?" Ryou asked with soft eyes.

"Yeah… I promise." After Aaron said so, Ryou finally looked at peace. "Good lord, this girl is too innocent for this world."

Tomoya then came in a little while later and took his seat. He then asked Ryou about a strange purple haired girl he met in the library on his way back.

"Was is it with people in Japan and exotic hair colors?"

"I think that was Ichinose Kotomi-san from Class A." Ryou said.

"Who's that?" Aaron asked.

"She's a genius who ranked in top ten of every subject on the national mock exam. She is able to cut class anytime and study whatever she wants."

"Well, that's a lot of knowledge to pack into such a small frame." John said.

"OH! There's something about your sister that you really need to know!" Tomoya suddenly remembered.

"Did she do something?" Ryou asked.

"This I got to hear." Aaron said with a smirk.

"YES! She did in fact, she and her bi-"

"HEY! TOMOYA!"

Kyou came bursting into the room and pulled him out of class. Everyone around the room because to question what Tomoya meant by 'bi'.

"What's 'bi'?" Ryou asked John.

Aaron leaned in to tell Ryou what had happened, "This morning she was on her motorbike trying to get to school and I'm guessing she almost hit Tomoya. Don't tell your sister I said that though."

Tomoya came back inside the classroom and announced something about Kyou. "EVERYONE! I found out that Fujibayashi Kyou of Class E is 'Bi'."

John sighed as everyone was becoming convinced of what Tomoya said. Kyou came rushing into class again and pulled him out once more. Ryou and John went outside to join them.

"Sister? Is...is it true? Or was it your bike?"

"Yeah! My bike! The motorized scooter we just bought last week!"

She let go of Tomoya and grabbed onto Aaron's tie.

"And if it wasn't him then it was you wasn't it?!"

"Only when it serves the purpose of my friends staying friends. So please let go of me."

Kyou only sighed, still surprised of Aaron's calm demeanor despite her threatening presentation. She returned to her classroom and then Tomoya went back inside.

"Hey um...I was wondering if you could help me with something later? It's regarding a club." Tomoya asked John.

"What? What are you talking about?" Aaron asked.

"Sorry for pushing you like this but...meet me on the third floor in the old school building after school." Tomoya said as classes restarted.

"Sure… I guess." Aaron said.

After class Aaron gathered his bag and started making his way to the old school building.

"Hey new kid, just a word of warning you should be careful around Okazaki and Sunohara." One of the male students told him.

"Huh? Why, he seems like a chill guy." Aaron replied.

"He and Sunohara are delinquents. I'm just warning you is all."

"I can take care of myself thank you. And keep unsavory things like rumors to yourself, got it?" Aaron said with a slightly furrowed brow.

He left for the old school building he'd found when he met Nishina the other day, "Okay so this should be it right?"

Aaron found the door to the club Tomoya had told him about, but just as Aaron was about to open the door he heard a girl's voice singing.

"Dango… Dango… Dango… Dango… Dango… Big Dango Family ~"

Just as he heard the song finish a memory flashed in his mind, it was the same plushie he had found the other night and he heard… singing?

"Everyone, everyone together makes a big family…"

Aaron shook his head and the memory disappeared.

"Where…? Where is all this coming? And that voice… why is so... familiar?"
