Chapter 14-Your Forgiven
Astrid POV
She arrived slowly to her old hut in tears and slightly intoxicated, Vikings love a good engagement announcement, she went to the door and heaved it open to a dark and desolate room, empty that's all it was very empty, the trudged in and carelessly dropped herself onto the couch staring straight up to the ceiling she felt hollow inside almost like everything was back to normal some how she messed up so bad she was brought back to her personal hell, back to being engaged to Snot, Back to being alone...she hadn't seen Hiccup yet nor Sindri since the poor kid ran off she wanted to so badly but she new she would be turned away
Maybe Hiccup didn't know yet
That thought was keeping up in her mind maybe she still had time to explain what happened grovel at his feet and beg for forgiveness...No Hoffersons don't grovel or beg but she really could care less now she didn't want to lose Hiccup again.. Even though he said he wouldn't leave but this time it seemed he had a valid reason to, to disappear into the woods with his Dragon all over again it brought her back to the few moments she had with him before he was gone the first time...
-Flash Back-
Astrid was barreling around walls cutting tight corners as she could hear the loud ground shaking footsteps of the deadly Nadder running towards them, the yelling of the annoying Thorston twins behind her as well as the un-manlike screaming of Snotlout not to far behind Fishlegs was most likely cowering away somewhere else in the maze and the final student being Hiccup was just seen as she darted passed him
"So how is one supposed to be able to sneak up on a Night fury?"
"No one has seen one and lived to tell the tale NOW GET IN THERE!"
Ever since a couple raids ago the Little Viking had been obsessed with night fury's ever since he used his machine named The Mangler to "shoot down a night fury" he was always taking any chance he could to find more information on them and normally she wouldn't have minded she always thought maybe he just was curious Hiccup liked to learn and she never looked into it granted she never got the chance to...
She then stopped at a turn when she felt the breathe of a dragon on her she slowly looked up and was face to face with it she raised her axe and shield but it didn't do much the Nadder slapped the shield away and started to chase her again she soon found herself climbing the wall and promptly the dragon followed her she could hear the walls crashing down like dominos and as they hopped across them until she jumped off her axe waving around in the air
She landed with a thud but not on the ground as she expected but on a slightly boney warm cushion she almost could have fallen asleep till she heard the voice that belonged to the cushion
"I-I uh Astrid w-well uhh.."
Hiccup
She soon heard the squawking and the rapid footsteps as she tried to reach for her axe she realized it was stuck in Hiccups shield She tried to yank it out but groans and protests from Hiccup were making it obvious that wasn't going to work and it also didn't help the twins were in the background teasing her
"OOOO love on the battle field"-Tuffnut cooed as Ruff complained
"eh she could do better"
She didn't need that right now finally her anger got the best of her and yanked the sheild off of hiccups arm and waked the Nadder over the head
'Wack!'
The Nadder shook it head and trudged off probably bleary and confused from the hit her anger though had not diminished
Why was Hiccup there in the first place?
He was standing still?
She was growing angrier with every thought till finally she snapped and whipped around to a cowering Hiccup on the floor
"Is this some Kind of a Joke to you!?"
She could see Hiccup grimace at her tone but her rage didn't care, he could have gotten hurt and she didn't want that, so if she had to yell at him to make sure he was safe she would
How wrong she was
"Our Ancestors war!, Your Fathers War!, is about become ours You need to figure out what side you are on!"
Hiccups face almost killed her when she realized what she just said she was going to back track, she shouldn't have brought up his dad she shouldn't have snapped at her best friend, her only friend he just stood up and ran out the Arena she went to go after him but was stopped by a smug looking Snot
"Eh don't worry about Him babe, Useless needs to learn to stay were he belongs"
She turned around and grabbed his arm and slammed him to the ground
"First of all im not your Babe! Second of all Do. 'Twist' Not. Twist' Call. 'Twist' Him. 'Twist' USELESS!"-he became a whimpering mess and crying for her to let go and finally she did but grabbed her axe and ran out the arena after him
-Present-
She was brought back with sun light slowly creeping in to the dark Hut
Day already?
She got up off the couch and looked around the hut still was empty no signs of Hiccup or Sindri anywhere...not that she expected them to be back but a little bit of her hoped she got up as she slowly walked to the hallway then noticed some pictures hanging it was her family portrait with her parents next to it was her really embarrassing drawing of her with her axe she drew then the really beautiful one that Hiccup drew...
Then a knock was heard
She walked up to the door and creaked it open and peered out only to find a very smug looking Snotlout flanked by Ruffnut and Tuffnut She almost barfed
"why hello my fair maiden I would like to personally escort you to breakfast"
She wasn't going to deal with this today she had a headache and didn't want to deal with the guy who ruined her life again
"Sorry snot but no and I'm not you fair maiden and we aren't engaged"
Ahem-"sorry but we are now since you broke your contract kissing me"-he smirked feeling triumphant
She on the other hand was livid
"Well Snoty hate to tell you but I'm damaged goods I'm no maiden so you cant have me"-she lied but the look on his face as well a Tuffnuts was worth it Ruffnut was only smirking
"I knew it!"-Ruff yelled she looked happy Snotlout was clearly angry and stormed off while the twins followed high fiving each other she knew she would regret it later but right now she couldn't care less
She had to find her family
Hiccups POV
He was still sat in front of the crackling fire as it was slowly dieing down but he was not making any effort to replenish the flames he just stared he didn't know how to feel he just felt numb he sort of felt used he also was trying to figure out what to do about Astrid knowing he was alive he didn't like that now she was with the Heir of the tribe she could tell Stoic the truth or worse tell them about Toothless he sighed
Either way they were screwed
As I on cue Toothless trotted over and wrapped himself around his rider and cooed at him and slipped his head under Hiccups hand and laid it on his lap
"yea I know bud..."
Toothless's ear shot up towards the bed and Hiccup followed it to see a very tired looking Sindri sat up on the wood frame, His eyes still red rimmed after all the crying but he still looked a lot happier then he did the night before
"Hey dad.."-he mumbled rubbing out any hints of sleep from his eyes
"Hey bud..feelin any better?"
Sindri nodded a little then got off the bed and walked over to Hiccup and sat next him staring into the fire as well, the silence was madness they both felt the elephant in the room What to do? Hiccup didn't want to see Sindri upset but he knew they needed to talk this over but Sindri beat him to it
"so any plans today dad?"-he still didn't look over at him just blankly staring at the orange flame
"Well maybe some cleaning up around here and maybe a evening flight?"
Sindri perked up at the idea he loved flying on Toothless and loved the flights they took even if they were short Hiccup was even teaching him how to use Toothless's rig just in case of emergencies Sindri leaned his head into His side
"Sure that would be fun...what needs to be done around here though..?"
Hiccup looked around and noticed the dirty clothes and lack of fire wood as well as the Dirty Night Fury he was absently leaning against
"Well we need to do some house keeping...as well as give somebody a bath.."-Toothless growled when he heard the word and the boys laughed
"aww baby boo don't like baths huh?"
Toothless grumbled and gave a mocking eye roll
"what if Sindri gave it to you?"-toothless perk up a little at the thought and reached over to lick Sindri's face the boy giggled as the dragon barraged him with licks and Hiccup smiled
"traitor"-he grumbled toothless then turned to his rider and tackled him with licks as well which had Sindri doubled over laughing as hiccup tried to push the beast off him then toothless dead weighted on him so he couldn't move
"you useless reptile"-toothless warbled in a almost mocking tone then got up and Sindri and Hiccup laughed
"Well then lets get done I wanna go flying!"-Sindri busted out the door out to the stream with a small basket of clothes as Hiccup and toothless Moseyed on out to join him
Astrid POV
Astrid was running through the village passing by people who gave her weird looks some attempting to stop her to congratulate her others wondering where she was going but she paid them no mind she just wanted to get to her family she soon made it to her destination
The Forge
In all it wooden glory she could see the smoke coming from the bellows and smell the burnt metal the smell she always acquainted with Hiccup but she needed to see if Sindri was still here she wanted to apologize she didn't want him to see that she wanted to make sure he knew the truth so she ran to the window to see Gobber whistling away and hammering out a very bent and miss shaped sword
"Gobber!"
He turn to the voice then when he saw her he scowled she didn't like it, Gobber was always nice to her she was his 'Star Pupil' back in dragon training so she was always greeted with a warm smile but now she was on the receiving end of a very deep scowl that she had never seen come from the blacksmith ever
"What yer want Astrid?"-his voice was far from welcoming but she needed answers but she went to speak then she was cut off
"Look the lad aint here neither es his father both left and frankly I don't think they wanna see yer..."he stated and turned back to his work, he didn't look happy but Astrid was not giving up she needed answers and she wasn't leaving without them she is Astrid Hofferson for crying out loud!
"Gobber"-she said sweetly he turned to her looking displeased-"Im going to need to know where my soon to be husband is and my son right now"-she gritted through her teeth but he seemed to be not giving up so easily
"well I don't think you have a son anymore, and yer soon to be husband?, well eh should be doing his rounds with the chief right about now"-he smirked and she was fuming so she did what she would do to anyone who didn't cooperate
Threaten them
"Gobber~"-she sang as she slowly walked into he forge the man went to protest but she slammed her axe to his throat-"Listen here I need to know where they are right now before I make sure your down a third limb!"-he looked surprised but nodded eagerly
"Alright Alright lass jeez they went to the woods I don't know where after that now can ya get yer axe out me face?"-she smiled and started to run out to the woods yelling a brief thank you as she made into the woods. She ran as fast as she could she new the way and she didn't have any time to waste
After a good 30 mins of running never slowing she soon made it to the edge of the clearing that had Hiccups Hut and heard Some loud noises coming from it
Thunk
Thunk
She surveyed the area still as she remembered it she could see little Sindri cleaning some clothes in the small stream he looked pretty occupied as his back faced the edge she was in then she turned a little to see Hiccup at a chopping block, chopping chunks of wood but what really got her attention was the was chopping wood...
Shirtless
She almost fell over she had seen a few glimpses of him like that and saw some of the scars and..oooo the muscles but she had never gotten such a good view like this and she loved it he was lean definitely not a fishbone anymore tall and strong with a thin sheet of sweat covering him head to toe his long auburn hair going down his back and then she saw the scars his whole upper body was covered in them scratches and burn marks as well as blade cuts?
How would he have gotten those?
But even with all the cuts and scars she still loved him even when he was a fishbone she did and now she messed up she then snapped out of her swooning and was about to step out of the woods but heard a growl
She turned to come face to face with a very angry looking Toothless
"he-hey bud..?"-he didn't seem amused so he grabbed her by her tunic and bounded towards Hiccup while wagging his tail looking like a puppy playing fetch
"Well what do ya have There Toothless?"-she could hear the smirk on his face she finally stood up and face to face with a smug Hiccup but his smile soon faltered gazing upon her and it made her a little upset
"what are you doing here?"-she heard but it wasn't Hiccup he was still looking at her dumbfounded it was Sindri who was walking over from cleaning clothes and was glaring at her and she didn't think a kid could make her feel so scared in her life
"Well I-i came to talk to you guys I-"-"shouldn't you be with your new Family?"-Sindri didn't look pleased and she turned to Hiccup for help but he was only looking upset and it broke more of her
"your my family I-I don't have any other family..."-she really didn't she had no one left they were the only thing close enough to a family she has had in a while and she wouldn't trade them for anything in the world...
"Well why did you kiss that bully?...You should only kiss dad..."-Sindri was fully glaring at her he wanted answers she was on the verge of tears
"i-I know I shouldn't but I-I didn't m-mean to he forced me to-to kiss him I"-"then why didn't you pull away?..."-a new voice entered the conversation...Hiccups and he didn't sound mad...he sounded broken...she turned away from the scowling Sindri to a very broken looking Hiccup he was looking at her but it was almost like he was looking through her his beautiful green eyes were coated with unshed tears she hadn't even noticed she was crying to
"b-babe no you know how Snot is h-he caught me off guard I-I tried but he was stronger then me-"-"Astrid...we both know your stronger then him...so answer me honestly why didn't you pull away..?"-his tears were leaking down his face but he made no sounds no movements and his eyes were still boring into her soul
"I swear Hi-Hiccup please believe me I promise...i promise"-she fell to her knees and cried into her hands nobody moved and the only sounds that filled the forest were here tears she then heard leaf crunch and then felt a hand on her shoulder she looked up to see Sindri
"You promise?"-he still looked weary but caring at the same time she nodded her head vigorously and he came down for a hug she held him tight and cried to his shoulder and she felt her shoulder getting wet as well
Hiccup POV
He didn't know what to do he saw his son and former fiancé sit there and cry together but he didn't move he didn't move to wipe his tears he didn't move to join them he just couldn't when Toothless brought Astrid over he was speechless he thought he would be ok if she did come back but he wasn't seeing her just drew all the pain out again and he wasn't handling it well he didn't know if he wanted to move to hold her again or run as far away from her as he could he didn't even know if he should trust her statement sure Snotlout could do something like that it does sound like that but Astrid always was stronger then him she could've stopped him...
Right?
His thought process was broken when he felt a hand brush his he looked to see Astrid standing Infront of him still tears running down her face and looking at him for an answer he jus couldn't speak..or didn't want to..he didn't know
"Babe...?"
When he didn't answer felt soft slightly calloused hands on his cheeks rubbing away his tears and her light breathing on his nose
"Hic..you in there?"
"tell me why you didn't push away..."-he didn't even think he said it it was only a mere whisper but she closed her eyes and spoke things that killed him
"when we were...engaged the first time...he use to hit me..a lot...and just feeling him touch me scared me half to death and I-I just couldn't move...I'm sorry Hiccup I didn't mean to hurt you I-I just was scared..."-she went to back away but he moved to his hands to hold her close to him and kissed her hair
"I-its ok...I get it I'm I'm sorry for not believing you..."
"no no its my fault for not pulling away I-I should have"-he pulled her chin up and kissed her sound she just stood and took it
