UNDER KINGSGLAIVE TRAINING.

CHAPTER 7

The Brightest Light casts the Darkest Shadow

oooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo

Lightning was looking out of the window of the car, and though Serah was delighted to see passing by in front of her all the animals and new places she had only imagined in her dreams, her older sister couldn't see anything beyond her own reflection on the window, since her inner eye was fixed on her thoughts and recent memories.

So, it had been Goddess Etro herself the one talking to her. The one giving her revelations of the future to come, intricately shown in her dreams, and at the same time asking of her such high level of sacrifice. But why her? She was nothing but a mere mortal, a poor and weak orphan that people used to see as anything but worth seeing. How many times had Lightning been dismissed out of places for being smaller than the rest? For being the youngest, the weakest? She was definitely no use for a Goddess. Lightning looked at Lunafreya, who was recently participating in Serah's thrill, answering all her questions and pointing at the most interesting places along the road. Would the Oracle have the answers to her own questions too? If she was honest to herself, the idea of Luna sharing such knowledge with her had been the main reason why she had accepted the Princess´s invitation. She was very desperate to know what such a horrible dream really meant, and surely the best place to look for answers from a world of dreams had to be the Oracle.

The teen was so lost in thought she barely registered the screeching of tires, until she felt the impact and her body being propelled forwards, only painfully stopped by the restrains of her seatbelt.

"Oh no!" Princess Lunafreya yelled as she looked at the window.

"What?" Lightning turned around, desperately searching for the reason of the scream and noticed the Kingsglaive behind the wheel taking his gun, looking at the enemy the Princess had spotted.

"Niflheim troops!"

And then she saw them too. Blocking the path of the car, there certainly were several war machines towering over them. Their form was humanoid but their size was maybe twice a normal man, or maybe three times? The one standing closest to them had collided with the car, stopping it with a single hand, crushing the hood and part of the windshield, (fortunately for the passengers, they had almost reached a stop when they collided) and now was pointing its guns at them, looking rather intimidating. The gun in its hand rattled, ready to fire the weapon at the car, and everyone paled, but fortunately for them the occupants of the Regalia had reacted fast, and at that moment Noctis and Gladiolus made their appearance, one cutting off the offending arm, and the other cutting in half the machine's chest. Breathing heavily out of anxiety, Noctis ran towards Luna who was getting out of the car at the sight of him, and once he reached her, the Prince held her in a tight hug that unfortunately had to last very little.

"Are you okay, Luna?"

"Yes, yes, we are okay. And you?"

But he ignored her question, and instead pushed her lightly away from him. "Take the girls and hide. We'll handle this."

"But Noctis…" she looked at him pleadingly, worry evident in her blue eyes.

"It must be done, my love. Don't worry about me, I have the guys by my side. You need to protect the girls."

Reluctantly she nodded and gave him a quick peck on the lips, then helped Serah to get out of the vehicle, which had started to fume dense smoke from the hood, the part that had crashed against the soldier´s extremity. Serah obediently took Luna's hand, while Lightning had already exited the door on the other side and had run around the car to meet them, the Kingsglaive shooting at the soldiers and protecting their retreat. The teen looked frantically around them.

"Where´s Gentiana?"

Without answering her question, Luna took her hand and pulled her, forcing both pinkettes to run alongside her. The three sprinted towards the threes, followed closely by the Kingsglaive. But another Niflheim soldier got on his way, separating him from the three women and shot him on the head, killing the man instantly. Without hesitation, the mechanical monster turned around and pointed its gun at Luna, but Lightning reacted faster and, using her own body, threw her sister and the Princess aside, falling with them and barely avoiding the barrel of bullets seeking their flesh. They all fell on the ground and Lightning recovered fast, immediately running towards the mechanical soldier head on, seeking her enemy.

"Lightning! No!"

Luna screamed but the pinkette was already too far to hear her, the girl´s blood pumping on her ears too loud to let the soft voice reach her. In her trek, Lightning collected a small but broad branch without losing her momentum and secured the piece of wood in between her teeth. The soldier pointed its guns at her again but couldn´t get the right target, the bullets hitting the ground she had just stepped on: she was faster than the mechanical arm, and advantage she knew perfectly well how to exploit. Lightning jumped and grabbed the extended arm with both hands and, using it as leverage, she spun around it, making a full rotation around the arm while her body was held in a straight line, until right before the next turn she spun around her own axis and, using her legs as a counterweight, she directed her body towards the back of her enemy and landed over its shoulders; once her legs secured her on the metallic body, she took the branch from her teeth and embedded its pointed end deep inside the soldier's helmet, from its neck upwards, instinctively finding the weakest point of the armor; the 'injury' created small sparks around her hand, making her clench her teeth at the pain the electricity produced, but she never lost concentration, and instead used her pain as a fuel to push the branch further inside, until her enemy finally collapsed, its main circuits completely ruined. Before they hit the ground, she jumped away from it, landing safely on the grass. But as she looked up, another soldier loomed over her, pointing its guns at her chest; she landed on her rump, too stunned to react quickly, but fortunately for her, right on time before it shot, the soldier was cut in half by Gladiolus' imposing blade.

"That was amazing, Lightning!" the man was beaming at her, obviously impressed. "You really have to show me how to do what you just did."

Still sitting on the ground, the girl smirked at his request. "Well, I think for that you´ll need to be a few feet shorter and a lot of pounds lighter." The man blinked at her words and then laughed out loud at her advice.

"I guess so, girl!"

He chivalrously extended a hand to help her up. She hesitated at first, not used to such actions, usually interpreting the gesture as a sign of weakness. But then complied, choosing to take it as a gesture among comrades, instead of something else. He surely didn´t mean to treat her like a lady, after what she had just done.

"Did you do gymnastics before?" He gleefully asked.

She was startled by his words, and the emotion behind them, but smiled at being found out. "Yeah. Too obvious?"

"Only if one has a sister doing gymnastics too." he winked at her and her smile grew wider.

"Well, that would explain a lot."

"Lightning!" Luna and Serah reached them, the latter entrapping the teen in a strong embrace, and surprisingly, the former followed suit, holding her tight too.

"Please Lightning, don´t you ever do that again." It was Luna the one saying it.

Lightning accepted the embrace but felt awkward by it, and even more at the woman´s words. "Emh… isn´t this supposed to be my job? The one thing I came to do? To protect you?"

Luna stepped away from the hug but held the teen by the shoulders, both palms pressed hard against her skin, and the flaring eyes of the Oracle piercing the baby blue ones of the girl made her flinch.

"No, it is not. It is my duty to protect you until the time comes, not the other way around. Right now, you have no need of thinking such things because as long as you´re underage I am the one with the obligation to protect you, both of you, at least until you´re strong and tall enough to fulfill your destiny. Please, don´t think otherwise."

Though the kind words moved her, Lightning still refused to be seen as weak but understood the notion.

"Then I´ll work very hard so that I become taller and stronger in no time, and so I´ll be able to protect you and Serah sooner than you think."

Luna shook her head and hugged her against her breast once again. How could she ever find such a strong spirit in such a small body? How can a girl that small become such a strong-willed person at such a short age?

oooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo

"Through pain." It was Gentiana who gave her the answer. "Only through pain you can achieve that level of clarity. You should know that, Oracle. Hopefully, you will learn soon what the girls have gone through, to make them this strong. Just give them time."

Luna hesitated. "You think they´ll ever trust me?"

Gentiana smiled at her. It was amusing to see someone so loved by her people still letting her insecurities shown. The wise woman put a hand over the other´s shoulders.

"I´m sure they will, but it´s up to you how fast you can earn that trust." They both looked up to see the immobile frame of the teen, illuminated by the blue fire of their camping site. Lightning was sitting away from such fire, looking at the stars, while Serah was talking animatedly with Noctis and his peers, laughter sometimes breaking the stillness of the night. The siblings were so different from one another, it was so difficult to believe they were sisters if it weren´t for their striking physical similarities. They both looked like two drops of water, their height and the look in their eyes being the characteristics that gave them away.

They had settled camp as far away from the attack point as they could, not trusting any city at the moment, but still close enough to be able to get to the Hammerhead quickly if needed. As soon as she knew what had happened, Cindy had gladly towed the Star of Lucis away, and promised them it would be repaired the very next day; they had to force Prompto away from her so that she would have time to perform the so needed repairs without him pestering her all the time. Prompto begged and pleaded and in the end, it had been Luna´s kindness the one convincing them to split apart and let the man linger, at least until midnight. So, the group was camping minus a blonde. And a Kingsglaive. Luna still felt bad about the man who couldn´t protect them but died trying. She was to say something of the matter but an extended hand in front of her made her lose her concentration.

It was Nocti´s hand.

She looked up to meet her husband´s eyes, and the sadness in them made her heart clench. Noctis looked at Gentiana in an apologizing gesture for interrupting their chat but she nodded, understanding his emotions without the need of uttering a single word, at which the Prince was thankful. Luna watched the interchange and nodded too at the Messenger; without a word, the Princess took the Prince´s hand and allowed him to push her up. He kissed her knuckles and turned around, pulling her with him; she followed him silently, trustful of his motives.

It took the couple a few steps to find a small pond in the middle of the desert, almost hidden from view but just behind their resting place; an oasis that Noctis had found during his journeys and, apparently, the one he had been preserving for her, since she could see a small but beautiful white bench beside it, trees and colorful plants around it, along with ribbons and a white veil framing it lovely.

"Noctis, it´s beautiful!"

He smiled at her words. "I´m glad you liked it, I didn´t know what to do for you and finally Ignis and I found this. He helped me decorate it."

Luna giggled. "Yes, I can feel his influence in these intricate ribbons."

But Noctis didn´t react at her joke. Luna turned around at his unresponsiveness, worried about his state of mind, and found red eyes looking eagerly at her. She was about to speak but at that moment he forcefully pulled her towards him, and kissed her fervently, deeply, securing her in place with both of his arms on her back. The movement had taken her by surprise, the hunger in him startling her and she almost recoiled, almost rejected him, but reminded herself this was his husband, it was his right to kiss her as such, so she submitted to him and, after a few seconds, his kisses ignited the instinctive side of her, and she responded with the same hunger. After a few minutes of kissing, and before it became something else, Luna broke the kiss, panting, feeling his body and his arms around her trembling.

"Noctis…"

"I´m sorry Luna… I just…" He looked at her swollen lips, still feeling the need burning inside of him, but instead of claiming her as his once again, he just pecked her lips, and then held her almost desperately in a tight hug.

"Noctis? What are you apologizing for?"

"I thought… I felt I almost lost you today, and I was so foolish as to think a single Kingsglaive could protect you against our enemies… I should´ve been there, right beside you, instead of fighting those troops. I should´ve been the one to save you, not assigning that job on someone else´s shoulders. I… I think this journey was a mistake. You´re too precious to me, to the world, to risk your life on a dream that might not come true."

"Oh Noctis…" She forced him to let her go, and searched for his eyes, finding that the reddish hue had started to disappear. Good. Luna sat on the bench and, taking him by the hand, she pulled him to sit beside her, while her eyes became serious as they locked with his own. "You did save me, Noct, saved us all." The man was about to protest but she silenced him placing her fingers upon his lips. "We both agreed with this, Noctis, both know it´s the best thing to do for our country. You can´t turn back now, we need you. They need you."

"I won´t risk your life over this." His fears still got the upper hand. She could see them in his eyes.

"I wouldn´t risk yours either if I could. But it´s something we have to do, and you know it." She caressed his cheek, trying to calm him. "But you know now that if we do it together, we´ll be better off. We´ll have better chances of surviving."

"You almost died today." He insisted.

"And as I said you protected me from that." She smiled at him, knowing she had to be patient.

"It wasn´t me. It had to be a child who did my job. I can´t tolerate that." His eyes sparked with anger again.

"Then don´t. Stay by my side and we´ll be perfect together. Let´s train that child, you and I, so that you can be more at ease. I assure you she´ll be a magnificent Shield, just like Gladiolus is for you. Is that okay with you?"

He mulled over her words, but in the end, he gave in. "Okay. But anyways I won´t leave your side until she´s ready." Then, his smile became mischievous. "In the meantime, do you think we could…?"

The look in his eyes made her laugh and blush at the same time. She slapped him playfully on the shoulder.

"Noctis Lucius Caelum, allow me to remind you we´re surrounded by our friends. It means no funny business while we´re camping. After all, it was your decision we were to sleep in the open instead of in a proper room."

He groaned. "I´m regretting that decision now."

"Sorry, no. You can´t go back now."

He returned the smile and kissed her again, this time softly. She kissed him back, thankful for the respite, and for the feeling of security and love he made her feel.

A few meters away, there was an immobile teen looking intently at the royal scene unfolding right before her eyes.

Gentiana approached the silent girl and sat right beside her, but Lightning didn´t give any indication she was aware of her presence, until after a few minutes.

"They love each other so much… at least it would seem from the distance."

Gentiana smiled at her words. It was so obvious the scene in front of her would confuse the girl. "Yes. Their history is long. They hold each other dearly since they were kids."

"Then why would the Princess break Nyx´s heart, making him believe she still loves him?"

"Because she does."

The blunt answer startled and angered the teen, making her hesitate, so she pressed on. "How can a woman love two men at the same time?"

"The human heart is very complex, thus capable of such feat if that´s what you´re asking." Gentiana spoke without restraint, but happy to find someone who asked without restraint either. "It can be done, love two people with the same intensity, and she´s actually doing it. But she perfectly well knows those feelings are neither well seen in the society she lives in, nor correct for the duty she´s taken upon her shoulders."

Lightning sighed. "So, she loves Ulric, then?"

"If you´re worried she´ll take him away from you, you should be at ease."

"I´m not…!"

Gentiana silenced her protest with a hand. "Princess Lunafreya will always put her country and her duty above everything else, even her own life. Nyx Ulric will not interfere with that, no matter how much she might love him. That said, I´m sure she´ll get over him soon enough, just like he will. Your sensei will be free of that love in no time."

Lightning remained silent, not knowing what to say. After a few minutes, Gentiana broke the silence.

"Tell me about your nightmare."

The pinkette turned around so fast she almost got whiplash and was met by Gentiana´s very rare smile.

"Before you ask, let me tell you I know a lot of things. You can't hide from me."

Lightning sighed but refused to give up so easily. "I would like to know first where did you go while we were under attack."

"To fight."

"I didn´t see you fighting."

"That´s because I was fighting with the King, by his side, and away from you."

"Why wouldn´t you save us first?" The teen protested, angered that the Princess´s safety wasn´t a priority for the Messenger. Serah had been with her, in danger too.

"I knew you´d be there. As you perfectly were. You saved the day."

The teen lowered her head. "I did no such thing. I destroyed but only one of those machines, and almost got killed myself. It had to be Gladiolus the one to save us, if it weren´t for him, my stupidity and slow reflexes would´ve killed me and the Princess."

And Serah.

Gentiana frowned at the words. "You´re too rough on yourself. I don´t know of any teen who could destroy one of those Niflheim soldiers all on her own and with bare hands. And don´t tell me your classmates would, because you well know it´s a lie. But you wanted to talk about something else, right? And it wasn´t today´s battle."

Lightning remained silent for a moment, pondering until she finally decided to be honest with her words.

"Do you trust Lunafreya? Is she really such a powerful Oracle as they say?"

"Your real question would be 'will she give you the answers you need?' right? Don´t you trust in her powers?"

Lightning looked away, not wanting to meet the woman´s eyes. "I don´t know whom to trust nowadays."

"And that´s a very smart approach to this life. But sometimes you´ve just got to take the risk. You might be wrong, and will have to live with the consequences. But if you don´t risk it, if you don´t move, then you´ll rot for the inactivity. You´ll never get your answers unless you start asking."

Lightning looked straight at the green depths of the High Messenger´s eyes. So full of peace, so full of wisdom. So much knowledge behind them. She made her choice.

"I dreamed about the destruction of our world, Gentiana, and it was very ugly. It was about an endless night. I dreamed about Nocti´s and Lunafreya´s death at the hands of what looks like a huge blue dragon. And then the dream repeated itself, and then I was there and… I saw… I was in the middle of their fight and I…"

Lightning fell silent as her mouth ran dry, her pulse quickened as the memory assaulted her mind. Fear and anguish were emotions she hadn´t learned how to control. The pinkette exhaled slowly, fighting to reign over her mind.

"Tell me Gentiana, will that dream come true? Am I going to die?"

Gentiana pierced the teen with her stare, rooting her on her spot.

"You didn´t dream, young Farron, that was a vision of the future to come, indeed, and the dragon you saw is one of the mighty Astrals we´re searching for, her name is Leviathan. The fact that you could witness such visions means you´re a key to form the future of this land. But I should not be the one to tell you this."

"Why not?"

"Because you shared the vision with someone else. Lunafreya saw the same things as you did, and as the Oracle, she understands the true meaning more than anyone else in this world. You should talk to her. The same fear you feel today, she felt it the moment she woke up from it. Share the details with her, and maybe she´ll give you the answers you´re looking for. If you don´t risk being wrong, you might miss the opportunity of being right and lose the answers you´re craving for."

After her words, Gentiana smiled at the teen and stood up, leaving her with her thoughts. Lightning searched for the frame of the Prince and the Princess and smiled at seeing them laughing and joking, but with their bodies in a close intimacy. She sighed. Would she ever be like that with someone else? Lightning shook her head, where did that thought come from?

I´m not looking for a boyfriend. I need to protect Serah and find everything I can about that freaking nightmare! Why the hell would I be thinking of a boyfriend now?!

She huffed angrily and stood up, searching for her sister, and chuckled lightly at seeing her dancing happily around the fire, while Gladiolus, Ignis and even Prompto (wasn´t he supposed to be away?) were cheering her up. She had to admit; they had found a nice family for them. In case they were ever to consider them family.

Ignis stood up at seeing her approach the group, and taking a plate, he offered her a couple of prierie style-skewers, one of Gladio´s favorite (and she would learn soon, her favorite too), and stood beside her to keep her company. They were both enjoying themselves with Serah´s dancing and laughed heartily when Prompto got up from his seat and accompanied the girl, his dancing a little bit less gracious, but a lot more fun.

"I believe everyone has told you how fantastic you were today," Ignis started, "but something tells me you´re not appreciating such attention. Am I wrong?"

Lightning sighed, knowing he had hit target, but refused to elaborate, to which Ignis just kept on.

"I understand the feeling of not being good enough to do your job, of feeling you´re still too young." Lightning looked at him. It was getting on her nerves how this group of adults could so easily read through her. In response, he just winked at her. "I felt the same not too long ago, that´s why I get the meaning of that look you have on your face."

She groaned, looking at the fire and falling silent. After a moment, she spoke again. "Does it ever get any easier?"

He smiled wisely. "Yeah. With time. And a lot of patience."

"I hate having patience." The teen protested.

The man chuckled at the typical teenage response. "And that´s the first thing we learn once we grow up. I mean, when you find in you the capability of being patient, you realize you´re maturing, and then realize, too, that your power, your ability, is limitless. But that is something only reserved for the illuminated."

Lightning took her sweet time mulling over his words, but once she thought about the challenge he was presenting to her, she gave him a lopsided smile.

"You mean to tell me, that if I learn how to be patient, I´ll grow up fast and become stronger sooner?"

His smile grew wider, mischievous. "Yes. But that´s a feat a teen like you will never accomplish soon. But don´t worry," he shrugged, "we all understand."

Lightning looked down at her plate, her azure eyes filled with the determination that characterized her. "That´s because you´ve never met me." She smirked at him, but his smile never faltered.

"We´ll see, young Farron."

"Yeah, we´ll see."

A few meters away from the pair, Gladiolus was looking intently at their exchange, noticed their stares and smiled, shaking his head.

"Poor girl is now most surely tricked by the very master of deceit."

oooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo

The next day found the Princess waking up earlier than the rest, right before sunrise. She yawned and went to the small arrange of dishes to find the one with the water. She knew camping had been necessary to ensure their safety, but felt her body so very dirty, she at least felt the necessity of cleansing her mouth and the parts of her body she could but was startled by the unexpected dark frame at the end of their camp. Lightning was sitting on the edge, looking intently at the breaking dawn, her posture as still as a statue.

"Lightning?"

The girl didn´t respond, so Luna approached her and, seeing her eyes silently fixed on the landscape, sat beside her.

"Is… is everything okay?"

"I´m ready, Luna." As soon as the woman was right beside her, baby blue eyes turned to look at the Princess, and the blazing fire inside them startled the blonde.

"What do you mean?"

"I want to… I need to tell you everything I can about my dream. I need answers. To protect Serah, to protect you better."

"Lightning, I thought we had…"

"It´s my right to know." She interrupted the woman, though, after her outburst, she made the effort to speak softer. "I mean, I need to know, Princess. I promise you I´ll behave, do everything you tell me to. But I need to know."

Luna sighed and nodded. Yes, she knew very well the need that craved inside the girl´s heart. She had felt it before, right before she knew she was an Oracle. The blonde turned her body towards Lightning, crossing her legs in front of her in a lotus style, and Lightning imitated her, then blue eyes looked intently at the other pair.

"Close your eyes and tell me every detail you can remember. What did you see, Light? What did you hear?"

Lightning did as she said, and searched in her memory. It wasn´t hard. The images assaulted her mind almost every night.

"I saw darkness spreading all over the world, the sky red and black, rivers of blood feeding the earth and creating a whole sea of blood. I saw a world almost ridden of its life. I tried to walk, but there were corpses all around, and the cities, everything the man created was… nothing was standing, it was like a wasteland." She inhaled, trying to see herself walking along the path, just like in her dream. "There are two dreams that appear to me. In the first one, I can see…" Lightning hesitated, but Luna took her hand, trying to be reassuring.

"Go on. I understand."

Lightning exhaled and kept talking. "I can see you and Noctis´s bodies above a pile of corpses, all bloody and lifeless, and a dragon… one of those Astrals you´re searching for looming over you. Then the dream ends, and starts a new one; the first part is exactly the same, but when I get to the pile of corpses, I see you both still fighting the dragon, but as I approach, I see Serah´s…" Lightning gasped, and inhaled deeply, her mouth dry and her eyes full of tears. When did she start crying? Luna clenched her hand and the teen nodded, collecting her will to keep going. "I see Serah´s body in the base of the mountain of corpses. I take her in my arms. She looks so lifeless… so broken… in my dream my chest starts to ache, and then the pain becomes unbearable, and from it comes a very bright light, and then everything stops…"

Lightning opened her teary eyes to look at the woman in front of her. "I can see myself holding Serah´s body, but nothing moves now, like frozen in time, and in my head, there´s this woman´s voice, Etro´s voice according to you, telling me that I need to protect you in order to save Serah. I´m never able to see the source of the voice, but she asks me if I´m willing to give my life to her. Of course, I say yes, I´d agree to anything she wants me to in order to save my sister. She…" Lightning closes her eyes again, the emotions running too strong. "I feel as if she were embracing me, though I can´t see her, and she says she´s asking for my help to save worlds, not only this one, and I can feel her loneliness, her desperation inside of me, I can feel all the love in the world, and the anguish for humanity and I cry inside that dream, and those feelings consume me, envelop me in a wave of darkness, and then I can´t feel myself no more. When the darkness passes away, I can see the light coming from your and Noctis´s hand, and I can see Serah laughing, and the world coming back to life. But I can feel how my body is gone as if I wasn´t alive anymore." Lightning´s eyes open up again, blazing determination carved in them. "But I don´t care, Princess. I told Etro only the truth when I said I´d do anything in my power to protect Serah, and if it means you must be alive, then I´ll willingly give my life to you. The only thing I want is to make sure Serah´s world survives." Lightning exhales, feeling as if a great weight had just lifted off of her shoulders. "So, tell me Oracle… what does my dream mean?"

Luna stared at the endless blue of Lightning´s eyes, and exhaled, having traveling in her own world of memories guided by the girl´s voice. She had already seen that part of the dream, though was still impressed Lightning could´ve heard Etro´s voice, impressed the Goddess had spoken directly to her. But there was a fragment the girl still didn´t know. A piece of vision still for her to reveal. An important part of Lightning´s future. Lunafreya felt hesitant whether it was the right time, or she should wait for the waves of time to take the correct pace. The woman exhaled, the weight of the Oracle´s responsibility crushing her shoulders. This girl was so young… too young to lead her life under such destiny.

Etro… please tell me I´m doing the right thing.

"You dreamed about yourself being the key to the future of Eos, Light. Yes, the vision shows you the future that will be. I know, because I´ve seen it too." Her eyes bore into the teen´s, like trying to convey an emotion Lightning just couldn´t place. "Gods talk to me all the time, just like Etro talked to you, and they´ve shown me how our world will be consumed in darkness, how life will leave this earth if we don´t do something about it, and they directed me towards the path I need to follow in order to protect all life in Eos, not only humanity. They had shown me, too, the people I should search for in order to fulfill my destiny. I know now that the True King is the only one who would be able to bring the light to conquest the darkness that looms over us. Your life, Light, holds the power and the covenant that will allow the True King to succeed. Yours and my life will be the basis on which the light will forge the future of life on this earth. That´s why it was so important for me to find you, for you to stay by my side, and for both of us to help Noctis along his journey. Lightning… there is…"

But Lunafreya can´t go on. Can´t share with the girl the other part of the dream. So, she looks down, ashamed of her own egoism. "I´m sorry for not being able to tell you something that would lift your spirit."

"But you have, Luna." Lightning said, a tint of solemnity on her voice. "I had an idea before, that being the reason why I wanted to become a Kingsglaive in the first place, to get closer to you. Now I know I´m on the right path. Don´t worry, Princess, you chose me well. I will fulfill my destiny to the fullest. I won´t let you down."

ooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo

A/N: the usual disclaimer, I don´t own final fantasy nor are making any money out of it.

This chapter was a little bit odd from what we´ve been reading because we needed some insight on Lightning since we had been in Nyx´s head so far. But now we are starting to know the motives of Lightning´s need of becoming the best. Survival, and her always present need of protecting her sister. I hope you´re still liking it!

Thank you SO much for all the reviews! You people have no idea how happy they make me!

Here´s the response to those I couldn´t answer:

The Star: I hope this chapter explains to you what Lightning´s destiny is, my dear.

Guest: Don´t worry! There´s a chapter where we´ll get to see Nyx being punched by Lightning! I can´t wait either!

Carrot: I adore Iggy! Though honestly had never thought of an iggyrai ship. But I think I can still make you happy.

Thank you guys for commenting!
