Living up to Family
Arrival of Hope – Ch 4
Harry
It was nearly a month since Harry decided to move from Philadelphia to Seattle and the moving in was quick. Harry had practically shrunk everything and levitated everything to his pouch. Selling his condo was even faster it felt like and he lucked out and came out with some profit on the sale of his condo. Using the profit from his condo sale he quickly modernized his manor and added a hidden dueling and potions room in his basement. During this time, Hermione had also moved in with him and Ron was in the process of changing his base of operations to MBI field office in Seattle. Both Ron and Hermione at this time had started discussing getting engaged but both saw reason to wait until they were fully settled into Seattle and had found their own place. Meanwhile Harry's dreams as of late alternated between the nightmares of the war to the peace of those grey eyes. Thankfully Hermione caught him during one of his brooding sessions and hen pecked him until he decided to go to a therapist. One of the many things he did not miss about Hermione. It wasn't until the night of the Intern Social did he reached his limit and left the house in a rush. He grabbed a solid dark grey 3-piece suit and opted for a white shirt and a solid black tie. It looked like the social was held in the atrium of the hospital as he walked up to the doors. Upon opening the doors, he was greeted by Chief Webber. "Aaah Dr. Potter-Black, welcome in!"
Upon the announcement of his arrival, heads turned, and he was swamped by over eager interns and residents. He greeted them smoothly and introduced himself before making way to the bar to grab a nice 14 year scotch on the rocks. He hadn't taken more than 3 steps away from the bar before he was stopped by an over eager Asian intern. "Dr. Potter-Black! My name is Cristina Yang, I am a huge fan of your work! I was wondering how you came up with your procedural protocols for trauma in pediatrics?"
Already he sensed her and used legitimacy to glaze her surface thoughts. She was an ambitious one, already brown nosing the Attendings and trolling for surgeries even before she began as a surgical intern. He knew he had to keep a watchful eye on her, her callousness reminded him of Snape and knew that she would be willing to burn as many people as possible to advance herself. He stared her down and said "Experience." And slowly turned away.
In the next 30 minutes or so, he met the spikey exterior Alex Karev, the overly empathetic Izzie Stevens and the lack of confidence George O'Malley. They all showed promise to be great surgeons but could see that they are going to be facing many challenges on the way to greatness, some more so than others.
At this point, he had enough. He said his goodbyes to his superiors and walked over to Joe's Bar. The local dive bar for the staff of the hospital. He sat at the counter and ordered a double scotch and soda and contemplated how he was going to tackle his situation at the hospital. At this point the door opened and the bell rang and out of instinct he turned around and made eye contact with the same set of grey eyes. Embarrassed he quickly turned around but as he did so a voice next to him said "2 shots of Tequila please."
He wanted to turn around so badly but didn't want to embarrass himself, until he felt a tap on his shoulder. "If you're going to be staring at me, for the 2nd time now, you could at least take a shot of tequila with me."
He turned around and once again he was flooded with glimpses of hope and it took a moment for him to settle in, and it seemed like she needed a moment too. "Sorry about. My name's Harry."
"Meredith." She said and she kept looking at him.
"Do I have something in my teeth? I guess I wasn't the only one who was staring."
Embarrassed Meredith quickly apologized "Sorry! It's just that you seem so familiar yet not so much. Your accent? Are you from England?"
"Yea, I lived there for the first 18 years of my life."
"Why did you leave?"
"To Escape…"
"Ahh I get it, I left the states for awhile to and traveled across Europe for a time to escape my overbearing, absentee mother."
"Well, here's to escaping" as they clinked glasses.
The 2 of them continued to make small talk as the door once again opened and walked in Dr. Derek Sheppard but as soon as he saw Harry he nodded and walked off to the corner of the bar. No doubt in a dubious mood as well to have escaped the Intern Social early.
Meredith and Harry kept talking into the night until closing time, mostly small talk and a bit of the past here and there until Meredith leaned into Harry and kissed him. As her soft lips touched his, a wall of emotions cascaded upon them like 2 lost souls found each other. Harry felt the beginning of a bond forming between the two of them but was unclear as to what it was. He would have to ask Luna about it later as she was an aura reader. "Do you want to come to my place?" asked Meredith as her piercing grey eyes looked upon his.
Harry nodded silently as the two took a cab to her house, surprising not too far away from his own place. She led him to her bedroom and clothes were quickly discarded. While she was busy, Harry quickly mumbled a contraception charm as he didn't trust the condoms being used. In the dark of her bedroom something magical was happening. Holding her in his arms he felt a fire that he couldn't feel with Ginny or any previous lovers. As she straddled him and he entered her, he knew this point, destiny has arrived and come calling.
Meredith
Meredith woke up early in the morning in a state she could never previously bring herself to with any previous lover or boyfriend. She felt warm and fuzzy inside, momentarily not that dark and twisty feeling she carried in her heart and shoulders. She didn't know what it was, but she didn't have the urge to flee like she normally does. This man she found somehow just knew pain like she did. Not much was said between them but his gentle responses and air about him made it quite different for her. So she did something she did something she normally never does. She kisses him on the nose and wakes him up. "Good morning! Do you want breakfast?"
Harry stirred slightly "Not really, what time is it?"
Meredith looked at the clock and said, "CRAP ITS 6AM, I have to start my job in an hour!"
Both bolted up straight and hurriedly put on their clothes. They both bounced downstairs and there was a moment of awkwardness. But Harry spoke up first "Last night was something else, and I wish we could have talked a bit more, but I think we both need to get to our jobs as soon as possible. Are you going to be around Joes Bar every so often?"
Not quite knowing how to respond Meredith just said "Yea."
"Uhh okay, then I guess I will see you around."
With an awkward kiss on her cheek, he grabbed his suit jacket and high tailed it out of there. Meredith was a bit embarrassed by the spot on her cheek where he kissed her was hot and warm. She knew this was something else. She just didn't know to process it. But as she glanced at her clock, she knew she was going to be running late. She grabbed her intern's scrubs and high tailed it to the hospital. She made it to the intern's locker room and quickly changed, not after being hit on by Karev of course. She made it the meeting spot where all the surgical interns congregated and Chief Webber was waiting for them. He led them to one of the OR rooms and gave them a speech. However, she was not paying attention to him as she looked up into the gallery and saw a familiar set of emerald, green eyes looking at her wearing the navy-blue scrubs of an attending physician. She quietly whispered to herself "Oh shit…"
Harry
Harry looked at the mass of interns currently listening to the Chief's speech and was distracted when he made eye contact with those damn grey eyes and all he could say under his breath "….Oh shit"
