AN: Enjoy!
When Wanda initially returned home from Hogwarts for the Summer, she was in good spirits. Her plans for the holiday break were already set in stone.. Or so she'd thought. She waited a day or two to get settled back at home, before sending Gamora with a letter for Vision asking him to visit.
Nebula jumped up, pressing her paw to the window as Gamora flew off into the distance, as if she knew where, or more likely who, the owl was heading to.
"Soon, Nebby" Wanda chuckled, scratching the young cat's head. "Vision's coming soon."
Except he didn't. Vision did write back, telling Wanda about a few of his activities since returning to the Orphanage, asking how Nebula was, and how he already missed them both. But no mention at all of her invitation to come stay. No 'Yes' or 'No'.. just no mention of the invitation at all.
It was odd. Wanda assumed he mustn't have read her letter properly, and so repeated the invitation in her next letter.. But again, Vision made no reference at all to her invitation. The strange pattern continued in Vision's following letters.
Pietro was having friends over. Sam had come by one day, and Bucky after that. But a few weeks into the holiday, still no Vision. It was almost like he didn't want to come. Wanda didn't want to believe that was the case, and she didn't really see how it could be, given how much Vision had enjoyed himself at Christmas. Still, the current evidence wasn't great, and the thought of her best friend not wanting to spend time with her was rather disheartening.
But if he really didn't want to spend time with her, why would Vision even bother writing back?
It just didn't make sense.
Wanda sighed, deciding to lock herself away in her room, focusing on her holiday homework instead of her absent friend. However, Clint, with whom Wanda had always been close, had noticed the change in her demeanour, and soon peeked in the door to check on her.
"Hey kid.. What's going on? You seem a little down."
"I'm fine.." Wanda huffed.
"You don't sound fine.." Clint frowned, moving to sit at the end of Wanda's bed. "So spill it. What's with the grumpy face?"
"It's Vision.." Wanda relented, setting her homework aside. "He isn't responding to my Invitations to come stay."
"So he's not answering your letters?"
"No, he's answering the letters, just not the invitation" Wanda frowned. "It's weird, because I know he wanted to come, and he said he misses Nebula. But he's just.. Ignoring the invite in every letter."
"That does sound weird.." Clint thought for a moment. "So, about the Orphanage the kid's in.."
"I think it's the same one me and Pietro would have been sent to if you and Laura hadn't taken us in.." said Wanda.
"You're sure?"
"Yeah.." Wanda's brow furrowed. "Why?"
"No reason.." said Clint innocently, standing and ruffling Wanda's hair. "You just finish that homework.."
After leaving Wanda's room, Clint let Laura know he had an errand to run, fetched some things he thought he might need, and with his destination firmly in mind, apparated to the Orphanage and headed inside. Children darted about, and the place was nice enough for what it was, but it wasn't warm.. Wasn't a home. He spotted Vision tucked behind a desk in the far corner, too focused on scribbling away at his Homework to notice Clint's arrival. Leaving the boy be for a moment, Clint went to find an adult to speak to, explaining the predicament.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Barton" Ms. Cho, one of the Orphanage Matrons explained. "Vision is a very sweet boy, and I, personally, would love for him to have a more enjoyable holiday break, but we have our hands full here. We just couldn't spare anyone to escort him to your home."
"Well, I'm here now" said Clint. "Can't I just take him?"
"There are rather strict rules, Mr. Barton.." Ms. Cho frowned.
"I'm a Foster Parent, already raising two war orphans. I have the papers to verify it.." Clint immediately produced said papers. "Does that change anything? Please, I'm trying to save my daughter's Summer.."
"Well.."
Soon afterwards, Clint approached Vision's desk, tapping him on the shoulder to get his attention.
"Mr. Barton?" The boy's bright blue eyes grew wide. "W-What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to bring you to our house for the Summer" said Clint. "Go pack your things.. Your Hogwarts stuff too, you won't be coming back here before School starts."
"Yes, Mr. Barton!" a wide smile spread over Vision's face, and he rushed off to collect his belongings.
A little while later, back at the Barton House, Wanda was still working on her Homework. Nebula had been sitting on the end of Wanda's bed, when suddenly, the little cat's ears pricked up, and she jumped off the bed, racing off as fast as she could with her one damaged paw.
"Nebula?" Wanda frowned, getting up to follow the cat, "Where are you going?"
The answer to that question came quickly, when Nebula rushed to and pawed at the front door, which then opened to reveal Vision, with Clint standing behind him.
"Nebula!" Vision grinned, scooping the cat into his arms. "I missed you!"
"Vizh!" Wanda rushed to hug her friend, careful not to crush Nebula as she did so. "You're here!"
"I am" Vision grinned, moving Nebula to one arm so he could hug her back. "And I missed you too.."
"Hey Vision" Laura came out of the Kitchen to smile at him. "You and Wanda can go put your stuff in Pietro's room, I need to have a chat with Clint, okay?"
Wanda and Vision nodded, happily chatting as they hurried away.
"Hi, Honey" Clint grinned innocently.
"Do I want to know what's happening here?" Laura raised an eyebrow.
"Don't be mad" said Clint. "I know this place is packed with kids already, and we still want one more of our own one day, but.. we only have to take the kid during Summer, and the Ministry still pays for his School stuff, and you should have seen Wanda, she was so upset when she thought Vision wasn't coming.."
"The only thing I am even slightly mad about" Laura chuckled, kissing her husband's cheek, "Is that I didn't think of this first.."
—
"I don't get it" Wanda frowned, as she and Vision got him set up in Pietro's room (Pietro himself was outside practicing, with a view to trying out for Quidditch in the coming School year). "Why didn't you just tell me why you couldn't come? I would have asked if Clint could go get you sooner."
"I don't know.. I guess I got too used to missing out on fun things" Vision blushed, scratching Nebula's chin. "And I didn't want to disappoint you.. but I think I'm going to be allowed to come here every Summer from now on."
"That's great, Vizh. Now Nebula.. and me, won't have to worry about missing you too much."
Wanda made a mental note that later, she would have to give Clint a very big hug.
