Thanks for reading this story!
Ellie
The bike is AWESOME! Dina has been doing most of the driving, she says I get a bit too excited on it and we want to get back to Jackson alive.
We just came through Salt Lake City and it was just as quiet as we thought it would be. A couple more days if we don't have any hiccups and we should be home finally!
I can't wait to see JJ
Dina had been driving most of the time, she preferred to drive, she says it's because i'm not a safe driver but I think she needs to occupy her mind. She's really missing JJ and she's not been sleeping great since that day at the FEDRA station. I've not really slept either, I keep myself up most of the night keeping watch. We would need to make a stop soon and try and get some supplies before the last stretch home to Jackson.
Dina tapped my hand that was holding firmly onto her waist and she pointed ahead. There was a small town appearing on the horizon. I flashed her a thumbs up signalling I was happy to stop.
We were just on the edge of Idaho, the town was small and only had around ten to fifteen houses and a few shops. The main roads were clear on the way In but we still needed to do a sweep of any buildings if we planned to stay the night. We were making really good time on the bike.
Dina pulled the bike over and I stepped onto the pavement taking my helmet off and feeling the breeze on my face. I walked over to an old tattered visitors sign with some basic information on it.
"Dina!" I shouted back
"Yeah?"
"There's a bar down the street, let's have one more stop before Jackson?"
"Hell yeah!" she called over.
We made the short walk down the main street to the bar, the windows were boarded up and there was a large red X painted on the door. I looked over at Dina who shrugged her shoulders and un-holstered her gun. I took that as a sign to continue inside.
"Okay I'll go first and check it out, you cover my back" I told her
The door pushed open, it was dark inside with no natural light coming in. I switched on my torch and scanned the room. It was clear. The building was mostly deserted, a few pictures hanging on the walls and a few tables and chairs dotted around along with some empty glasses and bottles.
"Clear babe" I called.
"It's dark in here!" Dina went back outside and prised a few of the wooden boards from the windows. "Great, now we can see each other" she smiled
I head over to the bar where I could see a couple of bottles on the shelves behind. I place my hand on the bar and volt over it, landing on the other side and turning back to Dina.
"So, what do you fancy?" I threw her a smile while leaning forward on the bar.
She moved closer and stopped opposite me "hmm other than you?" she leant in and planted a kiss on my lips
I feelt my cheeks flush red as she pulled away. I spin around to avoid the embarrassment and hear her chuckle from behind me.
"Oh Ellie, when are you going to get over that I can kiss you when I want now" she giggles
I ignore her and search the shelves for anything remotely alcoholic. "Ahh ha!" I pick up a bottle of gin and turn back round to face Dina. She was now perched on a bar stool leaning on the bar with her chin resting in her hand.
"I found some gin!"
"Two gins please" she sits up and tilted her head "and whatever your having"
"Ha ha" I looked around for a couple of glasses and found two dusty ones under the counter. After a quick wipe I poured two fingers worth into the glasses and push one over to Dina. She took the glass in her hand and necked it. I looked at her in surprise and followed suit before pouring us another glass.
"So… A Ghost walked into a bar and ordered a vodka… The barman said we don't serve spirits in here" I laughed
Dina let out a belly laugh covering her mouth with her hand. "Where do you get these jokes?"
"I think of them, I'm just that funny"
We both laughed and finished the drinks and then I poured us both another one.
"So our last stop before we are finally home, huh?" Dina swills the liquid round in her glass
I take another sip and look away from her
"Aren't you looking forward to going back?" she questions
I let out a sigh and finish the gin in my glass, Dina follows suit.
"Dina, I'm worried about going back to jackson"
She shoots me a concerned look "Why?"
"Tommy" I mumble
"Ah I see" She grabbs the bottle from next to me and pours us both another glass
I let out another sign and lean forward on the bar resting my head onto the wood. Dina put her hand on my hair and started to play with it
"I'm worried he will be really angry with me over Abby. I promised him I'd finish it and I didn't"
"Don't worry about Tommy, he's a grump. Let me deal with him if he comes asking questions"
"Do you think he will hate me?"
"No course not"
"Because I don't think I can take any more people being disappointed in me. One of the reasons I came out here in the first place was because of Tommy, if he hadn't shown up that day and carried on like he did I might not have come out here at all" I could feel the anxiaty building in my chest and my heart starting to pound.
"Hey, El" Dina cupped my face in her hand bringing me back up to look at her "I shouldn't have let him speak to you like that, I knew you were still struggling but I wanted you to make up your own mind on the situation but I should have stepped in sooner and supported you better" She looked deep into my eyes "and hey who could hate a face like that huh?" she leaned in and kissed my forehead instantly making me feel better. She was really good at doing that.
"Thanks" I smiled at her
"No problem" She winked "Okay before we finish that bottle and can't see straight, let's find somewhere to sleep!"
"Your right. I think I saw a furniture store across the street, might have an actual bed in it?"
"Oh god imagine! Lets go look" She jumped up, her cheeks a little flushed from the few glasses of gin we'd had.
We both headed toward the door of the bar and stumbled out onto the street, it was darker outside and we both seemed to have the realisation that we might have had a little too much gin than we thought.
"Look there it is" Dina giggled pointing across the street "Grab the bike, I've got the helmets"
We strolled over to the furniture store and left the bike outside. Just like the bar, the windows were boarded up and the door had a red X painted on it. I took out my gun and pushed the door open with my shoulder to take a look inside. After a quick sweep I could see it was all clear.
"Oh my god Dina! There's a bed in here!" I called back. I walked through the rest of the shop and checked it was safe before returning to help Dina bring the gear inside then securing the door, making sure nothing could follow us in.
"Got some candles over here" Dina walked over towards the bed and set down the candles and taking out her trusty ligher she carrys everywhere, lighting them as she went. "Romantic huh?"
I walked over and dropped my bag along with the helmets on the floor "hmm, Looks a bit dusty" I grabbed the sheet and gave it a shake along with the pillows before placing them back where I found them. "There we go"
"So… you tired?" She gave me a look and I knew exactly what it ment. She slowly walked round the bed running her finger along the frame. She stoped in front of me, taking her jacket off slowley and dumping it behind herl, never taking her eyes off me.
I can feel my cheeks flush red as I look at her slowly undressing in front of me. Fuck.
"Not that tired" my voice breaks as I speak.
She moves closer to me, leaning in slowly and kissing me softly. Her hands on my face. I kiss her back and she lowers her hands unbuttoning my jacket and pulling it off me. She pulls away and looked at me with a smirk "Your so cute, you know that"
"Oh... I'll show you cute" I pull her into me and kiss her, running my hands over her, feeling her curves. She takes off my shirt and pushes me onto the bed. I kick off my sneakers and grab her by the wrist, pulling her on top of me. She kisses me again, this time more passionately and I kiss her back with the same enthusiasm as she moans into my mouth. Fuck this is hot. I rolled her over and pulled off her jeans, sending them flying across the shop floor. I freeze and look at her laid on the bed in front of me. She still has faint bruises on her legs and arms from the Rattler, they look like hand marks. I don't know what to do but stand there.
She notices the look on my face and pulls me back "Ellie, it's okay. I want this. I want you"
"Are you sure? I don't want to hurt you"
"Yes you idiot get over here now"
"Hey Ellie" Dina whispers
"Yeah?"
"Play us something" She asks
"I dunno Dina, We should really get going soon" I try to persuade her.
It's late and we have all been out here for too long. Joel said not to be out around the bonfire late or we would eventually get caught and he wouldn't be able to defend me for sneaking out again.
"Come on El, you've brought that stupid guitar all the way out here to not play it?" She raised her eyebrows at me
I don't really know why I brought it out here. I wanted to play a song for Dina I guess. Like that would somehow make her fall in love with me. Crazy thinking really, she's with Jessie. Well, on and off with Jessie. This was one of those times when they were on a break. It's been nice actually. We have been spending alot more time together, ever since I broke up with Cat a couple of weeks ago. And now while shes been on a break with Jessie Dina is always hanging around me, He makes fun of her for it actually. I don't really know what her problem was with Cat, I thought she was reasonably nice. Just a bit jealous for my liking and really I wasn't that into her.
I was in love with someone else
"Fine" I huffed. I lent over and picked up my guitar placing it on my knee.
Dina moved over and sat closer to me. The orange flames highlighting her perfect face.
I began to strum the guitar and find the chords.
"I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty"
"I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again, I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much"
As I sang the song Dina didn't take her eyes off me. She looked at me as if nobody else was there, her chin resting in her hand leaning forward. Her big brown eyes gazing at me. I kept looking away and focusing on the cords otherwise I'd end up singing the wrong words getting lost in her eyes.
"I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun"
I finish the song and stop and look at her. It felt like it was just the both of us there. Everything was silent in that moment, just me and Dina in the soft glow of the bonfire looking deep into each other's eyes.
Shit this is fucking romantic
I felt my cheeks flush a little and I smiled awkwardly at her. She leant a little closer tilting her head.
Fuck is this happening
Then the silence breaks by loud clapping from Jessie "woohoo Ellie, that was sweet" followed by a few others clapping in the distance.
I look down and fiddle with the guitar, realising there are other people around.
Dina shoots him an annoyed look for ruining the moment
He threw his hands in the air "wow sorry, did I just spoil a moment there for you guys?"
"Fuck off Jessie" Dina huffs getting up and walking away.
"What's her problem?" Jessie laughs
Last night was amazing. Dina was amazing. I feel I know what my purpose is now, to love her.
We are going to get back on the bike soon and get to Jackson tonight hopefully.
I hope Tommy is okay and he won't be too angry with me.
I stuff my tattered journal back in my bag and turn around to look at Dina. She's still asleep in the bed. I walk over and get in next to her. She looks so peaceful when she sleeps. I took my hand and brushed her hair out of her face and and rested it on her waist. She's so beautiful, possibly the most beautiful person left in this world.
What is she doing with me?
She opened her eyes and looked at me sleepy "Hey"
"Hey yourself"
"What time is it?"
I lowered my hand and placed it on the small of her back and pulled her into me a little more. "We slept in" I laughed.
"I needed it after last night" She giggled
She tangled her olive skin legs with mine and rested her head on my chest.
I planted a kiss on her head "How about we go home and see our little potato huh?"
"That sounds amazing. But first" She lifted her head and pulled me in for a kiss. Placing her hand on the back of my kneck so I couldnt move away. I could feel her smile coming through as our mouths moulded together.
A loud crash came from outside making us both jump out of our skin
"What the fuck was that?" I whispered quickly getting out of the bed and moving over to the window to get a look outside.
Dina was behind me starting to put her clothes back on "Fuck sake where are my jeans?"
I looked through two pieces of wood and saw a small group of men approcing "Dina, there's a group of hunters outside. There throwing molotovs through the fucking windows. We need to go!"
I ran over to the bed and started to gather my clothes that were littered across the floor. "Here" I threw Dinas jeans over to her and laughed
"Eliie stop laughing!"
"Sorry I can't help it"
"What's the plan?" a now fully clothed Dina asked
"Okay let's just make a break for it. I'll open the door and you start the bike and we just fucking shoot past them. I don't want to take any chances. We are getting home tonight!''
"Okay, here" she handed me my backpack and walked over to the bike.
"I'll unlock the door, get your helmet on'' I threw over her helmet and slowly moved toward the door. I cracked it open and could see the group of men down the street. "Okay I think we can do this, I'll get my gun out and shoot at them if I need to. I'll give you a signal to start it and as soon as you get it going I'll throw the door open and we're gone. Okay!"
"Okay!" She agreed
I pushed my helmet on and checked over my shoulder to make sure Dina was ready. I looked back at the group of guys who looked to be pretty occupied and gave Dina the signal. She kicked down on the bike and just like before it rawed into action, I swung the door open and she came straight for me. We shot out of the door and skidded down the street before they knew what had happened. I wrapped my arms round Dina and we were gone!
Jackson here we come
There is is, Jackson. The big gates standing tall in the distance between the trees. I genuenly didn't think I'd see this place again it's been a long few months. I wonder how things have changed. Even before, when we lived at the farm I didn't really come and visit the town very much. I always found it too hard after Joel. We traveled along the dirt track through the woods and onto the small main road leading up to the gates and parked up outside. Dina pulled the bike to a stop and dismounted.
"Who goes there!" a shout came from the top of the gate.
Dina took her helmet off "Hey Simon!" with a wave
"Oh my god Dina!" He shouted back excitedly
I stepped off the bike and took my helmet off keeping my head down for the moment, I felt a little embarrassed after being gone so long
"Shut up!" He shouted "Ellie? Ellie is that you?!"
"Yeah, hi" I looked up and gave him an awkward wave
"Maria is going to lose her shit. Wait there let me get the gate open!"
Dina looked over at me and laughed "how you feeling babe?"
"Okay" I said but I wasn't sure, I had this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach and I felt like I was going to be sick
"Hey" Dina spoke softly, moving closer and placing her arm around me "Were in this together, yeah?"
I nodded back at her and forced a smile
The gates to Jackson swung open and a familiar face appeared.
"Hello girls" Maria spoke.
