Chapter Three

Bella woke to a phone ringing. She looked around and found the source of the ringing; Paul's phone.

"Paul? Your phone is ringing." she stated as she shook him awake.

"M'kay." was all he said before plucking his phone off the nightstand and answered it. "Yeah?"

"Paul? That you?" the voice asked.

"Who else would be answering my phone?" he snarked.

The voice laughed, "Good point."

Paul sighed, "Is there a reason you called, Jacob?"

As soon as he said Jacob's name, Bella flinched and stifled a gasp.

"Actually, yeah, there was a reason. We need you to come back to La Push. There is a rise in numbers of leeches that are passing through. Which means, more of us are phasing. Therefore, we need you to come back to help defend the town and shit like that." Jacob explained.

Paul sighed, "Really? That's what you need me to come back for?"

Jacob growled in annoyance, "Yes."

"Don't you fucking growl at me, pup. Sorry, your Alpha-ness." Paul snarled.

Bella's head snapped us when her mentioned Jacob being Alpha.

"You comin' or not, asshole?" Jacob snarled.

Paul snarled back, "Yes, but I have to bring someone." Bella's eyes widened at what Paul was saying.

"Who?"

Paul smirked and winked at Bella, "My imprint."

"You imprinted?" Jacob was truly shocked.

Paul laughed sarcastically, "Why not? You did."

That's when he noticed Bella was crying softly.

"Jacob, I got to go. But I will be there in three days." he stated at he pulled Bella closer.

Jacob sighed, "Okay, that's fine, see ya." with that he hung up.

Paul put his phone on the nightstand, when he asked Bella, "What's wrong?"

Bella sniffled, "You know, he's the reason I left. Well, him and his imprint."

Paul stiffened, "What did they do?"

Bella laughed, "What didn't they do?

"Seriously, Bella. What happened?"

Bella straightened, "Well, when Fuck-ward left, I became despondent. I wouldn't react to anything, wasn't seeing anything."

"Yeah, I know. We all saw what happened when Sam found you, from the pack mind." Paul explained.

"Okay, so when I finally came out of it, I found life again with Jake. He became my own personal sun. Anyways, we started hanging out, he told me the legends, of course the only one I actually 'heard' was the one involving the Cold Ones and the wolves." Bella was crying again. "I should have listened to them one about imprinting. It would have saved me the heartache. Did you know I was falling in love with Jake?"

Paul's growl rumbled in his chest.

Bella's laugh was almost hysterical, "Yeah. He continued to tell me he was in love with me. He didn't know what love was until he imprinted on Lydia. I was standing next to him when he saw her. He didn't even acknowledge me after that. Didn't even realize I left. But Lydia did."

Paul asked, "What did she do to you?" Inside Paul was seething. He knew no one liked Jacob's imprint. He just didn't know why. Now he guessed, he would find out.

"She thought I was competition vying for Jake's affections. But once I knew what happened, I stepped aside." Bella explained. That made a question pop into his head.

"How did you know what exactly happened?"

Bella smiled sincerely, "Sam and Emily. They explained is all to me. You see, they don't like Lydia for what she tried to."

Paul smirked, "Sounds like them. What did she try to do?"

"Alienate me from the pack. It back fired of course. Who knew that befriending a coven of vampires would make me so popular with the wolf pack." she laughed.

Paul chuckled along with her. "That's because of your energy. It's soothing."

"Really? That's the same thing that Sam told me." Bella laughed heartedly.

"So why did you leave Forks?" Paul pushed.

Bella sobered immediately, "Because Jacob fought Sam for the role of Alpha; almost killed him too. Jake then Alpha-ordered them all not to speak to me. I wondered how you can."

"You're my imprint, that overrides the Alpha-order. And now that you're an imprint, it will override all the others' orders not to talk to you." Paul explained happily.

Bella smiled excitedly, "We can go home now?"

Paul laughed, "Yes, we can go home."
