Creator questions
What's your name (real or screen, your choice)
La perla's mermaid
Tell me about yourself, age, where you're from, what you do, anything you want others to know about you, sex, etc.
Age 36, Argentina, Doctor, cis straight female
What brought you to the Zootopia fandom?
I just loved the movie and it's bold message
Who is your OC today?
Pearl
What animal are they?
Tigress
What do they look like? Special markings, colorations, etc.
She's magenta with purple stripes and green eyes
So Pearl has some interesting color patterns going on. How did you end up picking that combo? Did you sit down and look at them side by side or something?
Nah just wanted something that stood up for my avatar. I wanted my avatar to look cool and pop up from the screen
What inspired you to create them?
I think the tiger is the animal that suits me the best and the colors were a design choice
Why do you think it suits you?
I want an animal that is like me, big, bulky and strong. They also are loners and dangerous, plus they are really interesting to draw
Tigers give the first impression of physical strength. Is that the type of strength you're referring to?
Yeah, physical strength comes with ups and downs but I think it has a lot of advantages
What advantages do you feel you have?
Independence and self reliance, many tasks actually require physical strength and smaller mammals usually rely on others or even have to work as a group while I can get it done in a second by myself. Aaaaaaand not worrying too much about bullies or knowing very few mammals can take me down does give me a confidence boost
What are they like?
She's threatening and evil, she's also self aware of her evil and enjoys it, she's very upfront about her cruel machinations and own up to them
What's their family life like?
She's daddy's girl, dad is satan
So why go with Satan as dad? Just going full evil or you thought it was funny?
I could make her fatherless or give different answers all the time like the joker and his scars
...I'm putting that down as your answer
Okay
Do they have a love interest?
She has an old flame with the dark lord cthulhu but he never returned her calls.
So cthulhu is currently giving her the cold shoulder. Any chance she'll move on and find someone else?
Asathoth might be a good match, she just has to wait for him to wake up from his nap, it should not be long now
Do you have any stories written about them or that they're included in?
No, I try not to involve my OC in my stories
Do you consider this to be your sona or a separate character?
My sona actually I have another OC but she's not fully developed
Why go with the evil aspect?
It's part of the character
In many zootopia stories culture plays a big role. How do you like to see culture used in fics?
It can help set up world building, in some cases it can even be the protagonist. All options are cool as long as the culture is made with attention and care. Otherwise you might fall into the planet of hats trope and that's cheesy.
Ultimate Zootopia question. Are you a WildeHopps shipper or do you prefer them with a different ship?
Nah Wildehopps to the core. But I don't mind or hate other ships, to each their own I respect different opinions.
For the purpose of the OC interview the setting is the creator's OC is about to be interviewed by my co-owned OC Vicky Chola. A north american grey fox vixen in her mid 20s. They're both in a studio booth with headphones on and microphones to speak into. The interview we did earlier about the creator and their OC is considered a pre conversation between these two before going on the air. Vicky will ask questions based on the answers provided by the creator. Enjoy!
"Welcome everyone to another edition of the Characters of Zootopia show! I'm your host Vicky Chola and with me today is Pearl. Thanks for joining me Pearl."
Thank you so much for inviting me miss Chola, I'm glad to be here.
"Please, call me Vicky. So Pearl, you were telling me that you're the daughter of Satan?"
Yeah, daddy has spawned many mammals like myself all over the world. Most choose to hide their inheritance, I'm one of the few that admits to it proudly.
"You're not worried about how others would treat you or even attack you?"
What would they do? Kill me? That would send me straight to hell, dad has prepared a condo and an office for me when the time comes. I think he's looking forward to it.
"So are you and your sibling born in hell or here?"
Most of us are born here, dad doesn't like having living mortals there, he is very obsessive about the rules. It also makes it easier for us to blend in with the general public.
"That's hard for you to do with your fur pattern isn't it?"
It was when I was little, but now kids these days love dying their fur in crazy colors or patterns, besides, the 21st century is known for its indifference to the world around them.
"So now you find that you can just blend in with the crowd so to speak?"
To an extent, yes, but I have always been an outsider for obvious reasons. It's one of the reasons why I never hid who I was.
"So what do you do from day to day?"
Honestly? I try to cause chaos from time to time, that's my hobby in a way. But believe it or not, most of my time is spent doing paperwork and research for daddy. He needs a lot of help, the numbers are not adding up for him and these days being so unpredictable doesn't help.
"Aren't adding up how?"
Here's a question for you, is an action evil for causing harm or for breaking the rules? What if by following the rules society gives you, you end up causing harm? What if you caused damage in spite of having good intentions? What if you accidentally helped a lot of mammals when in fact all you wanted was to cause harm or achieve selfish goals? These are the questions daddy ponders before damming someone. And when the culture changes and shifts, the rules are slowly modified, along with the definition of right and wrong. And that's when the numbers begin to get all irregular and crooked. It's happened before, it will happen again, but every time it does it's a pain in the ass
"So your job is to observe how mortals actions relate to what is perceived as good or bad or is there a definitive definition of right and wrong?"
There's never a definite definition, it never has, that's why it's so complicated. Each soul has a chance to explain their actions and it all has to be evaluated accordingly. There's a joke here about how lucky it is that so many lawyers fall on our side, because we sure need them. Some cases are clear cut, but for many others it's a complex process, and don't get me started on the accounting.
"Wow, that's extremely complicated. I don't want to get bogged down in the details because we'll be here for who knows how long. Tell me what you do in your free time."
Well I like simple stuff, pranking my neighbors is always a good way to pass the time. And a few misdemeanors here and there to spice it up.
"What do your neighbors think of you?"
Well they probably don't like me, which is fair enough, yet they often get in on the pranks too and I think there's a playful aspect to it.
"A love hate type relationship?"
More like a nagging banter, at least from their perspective. Some people relax by going to a spa, I chill by making other mammals' days a little more obnoxious. I think it's also fun for me and maybe a little for them too, makes life less monotonous.
"Are your neighbors tigers, fellow felines or mammals the same size class as yourself?"
No, we tigers are actually quite rare. The only mammals larger than us are megafauna and they don't have the same features and skill as us. Now sure nowadays size is not the most important factor in a fight, we can thank modern weapons for that. But there is still a psychological advantage in being a top tier predator.
"Do you find tigers to be superior to other mammals?"
In a one on one fight back in the savage days? Yes. But as a whole we do have several disadvantages as a species, mainly our lack of socialization which didn't let us take advantage of group hunting like lions did, we were also one of the last species to enter civilization because of this. And in the modern days the advantage we have is even smaller, I must admit I have been surpassed by mammals much smaller than me.
Sighs sadly I don't think my species adapted well into the modern world.
"We've talked a fair deal about your dad, what about your mother? Is she still around?"
Yeah, she's a hippie who lives in a van as she travels around the world. We haven't talked in years, it's not like we hate each other or anything like that, she's just doing her thing. Dad is the one who raised me.
"When was the last time you saw each other?"
About 10 years ago, she showed up out of nowhere after a work meeting and invited me for tea, it was nice I guess, then she left and I haven't seen her since.
"Have you been in contact in any way?"
Nah, she refused to be tied up with anyone, not even by phone, she said it made her feel suffocated.
"Not even a postcard letting you know she's still alive?"
I'll know when she dies, dad will meet her up and tell me about it. In the meantime she just wants to be free of well, everything I guess. I respect her choice.
"With your dad being Satan, we obviously know there's hell, what about heaven?"
Oh it's there alright, and actually in constant contact with hell, they are basically both divisions of the same company.
"So not as divided as most mortals imagine it?"
Nope, both divisions are constantly communicating with each other and working together. Paperwork is obnoxious as it is the last thing we need is a turf war or further bureaucracy dividing us.
"I think that's all we have time for today. Thank you for coming on with me Pearl."
Thank you for having me.
"Thanks for joining us everyone! See you next week!"
