Giorgia smiled down at her children, both having forwent the cage to transport their pets. Rosene out of necessity as the rat had just appeared on her head again and Renato as he found it way too cool to present his new companion to everyone.
"So? Any ideas for names yet?"
Renato nodded "Leon, Leon the Chameleon."
The mugglewoman paused, looking unimpressed at her son and elbowing her chuckling husband "And you Stellina?"
"Bitto."
"Like the cheese?"
The witch grinned "Bitto il Ratto." (bitto the rat)
Giorgia could only sigh exasperatingly at this reply "This is your fault. They come after you."
Francesco grinned "Don't I have the best children?"
"We have the best children."
"Sorry amore, sorry. Naturally."
Morina just smiled, "Shall we get her uniform then?"
Sen looked up "I really have to wear a uniform?"
"Yes, I have to say it's quite pretty. I'm certain it will suit you well."
She scrunched her nose, not really impressed and shoving her brother when he was snickering at her.
Morina clapped her hands, taking the lead to guide the family to the tailor.
The tailor herself was cooing at Rosene as soon as she wore the uniform. Not that anyone could fault her.
Giorgia preened. She knew how good looking her children were and the feminine pale blue silk uniform looked absolutely enchanting on her stellina. She had to place her hand over her son's mouth though as he was trying to laugh at his sister.
Rosene usually preferred pants, comfortable clothing which she could dirty and move in. It didn't mean that she didn't like to wear pretty clothes but… as they were impractical she forwent them all the time and the uniform did look a bit posh she had to admit.
Rosene just blew her cheeks up but didn't comment on it, instead silently letting the procedure happen to her.
Which did make Giorgia even prouder. The whole magic thing.. was still quite a shock if she was honest and she would need a few days to come to terms with it but her daughter was doing brilliantly. She wasn't overwhelmed and even while Gabrielle knew that her child was still reluctant as she had to leave her brother behind,... she could see the excitement grow in the young girl.
Morina clapped in her hands once again when they left the shop "And now.. the most important stop of our shopping trip."
Sen tilted her head, Bitto following her movement, which was oddly cute "What is that?"
"Your wand."
The witch's eyes lit up "My wand!"
"Exactly. It's very special. You don't get to pick your own though."
"I don't?"
"Yes, the wand picks the mage themself. So the wand that will be yours will be the one who deemed you worthy."
Sen bit her lip "What if… what if not one deems me worthy?"
"That has never happened before. If you really empty out the whole shop and can't find one then you just have to visit a different wandmaker. But as Rossi the wandmaker here is quite inclusive I don't imagine that.
You might have that problem in England as their most famous wandmaker only carries three cores but in Italy and in France we don't have that issue."
Sen nodded, following the older witch inside the shop.
An older woman glanced up "Ah! A first year I assume?"
Morina gently laid a hand on Son's shoulder, pushing her forward.
Sen nodded "Yes, I would like to purchase a wand."
"Then you're at the right place." The wandmaker pulled out a monocle with different lenses, switching through the lenses as she observed the young girl "Hmm… strong willed I take?"
Giorgia chuckled "Quite so. My children can both be a handful."
Renato scoffed only to be pulled back by his father who ruffled through his hair.
Rossi grinned before she picked up a few boxes from the numerous ones "Just pick them up and swing them. Don't worry if something explodes. Won't be the first time and my shop is charmed to repair itself as soon as the customer leaves."
Sen blinked "...destroy something?"
"Oh yeah, non fitting wands can have a bit of a volatile reaction. Don't worry about it and get to swinging."
Sen was slightly hesitant but picked the firs tone up, only to drop it as soon as it heated up uncomfortably, she scrunched her nose "I don't think that one likes me very much."
Rossi laughed "Seems like it. Don't let that discourage you. So far I have found a wand for everyone yet. I pride myself in having a match for even the most eccentric mage. So we should find one for you as well."
Sen nodded slowly before she kept going, some of the wands reacted immediately to her, jumped out of her hand or gave her little shocks, others ripped open shelves and one of the boxes almost hit her brother in the process.
It took quite a while until she picked up a pale slightly rosy looking wand, a filigree black design of thorny tendrils carved into it and at the end of the handle was a rose carved out, as soon as Sen touched it a cool, refreshing feeling went through her whole body, neon green, blood red and black spirals made out of light shoot out while a curious singing seemingly erupted form the wand, the scent of seawater and a tinge of rust filling up Sens nose.
The sound made everyone flinch back besides Sen who simply stared in wonder at the wand in her hand.
Rossi smiled as she leaned forwards "11 Zoll, unyielding. It's cedarwood and Banshee hair.
Quite a powerful but difficult wand, highly loyal to their owner. Cedarwood owners usually have a strong character and talent with occlumency, have great insight, perception and have immaculate protective skills.
Same as the wand, the owner is usually very loyal as well. Wouldn't ever want to cross one, especially if I did any harm to one of their loved ones… quite frightening as an opponent, their skill in duelling can be quite shocking. Very good wood for a future duellist.``
Sen looked up at the woman "Excuse me? My wand… made a sound?"
"that is an oddity of banshee hair. Honestly I didn't even make the wand, it's from my great grandfather. He literally stalked a whole village for a full month as there had been banshee wailing sounds heard until he found a hair on the ground where she had wept.
Quite the fierce wand core as well, perfect for curses and duelling once again, deadly duelling if I'm honest… just… well my dear you will never be able to perform healing charms. it just doesn't work. A banshee hair core is unable to do anything relating to it."
Sen didn't even seem bothered by that, still more curious about the noise "It still made a sound."
"Yes, that's the main oddity of banshee hair. Those wands tend to be quite loud, giving curious singing, screaming, keening or wailing noises when they are used rather than the normal lights a spell produces. If you don't have banshee heritage that can tame it… well I would advise you to learn nonverbal casting, the wand usually respects that and does perform silently and with the normal lights then… aiming… well I wish you luck learning that otherwise as well. In combination with the unyielding… quite the difficult wand but if you master it? I see a great future for you."
"You do?"
Rossi leaned forwards "Owner of banshee cored wands are often highly respected, even though they are more in line of being custom wands for those with banshee heritage but well my Grandfather had a knack for collecting odd wand cores so count yourself lucky that we got it. Want to know more about your core? I don't want to bore you."
"I would love to."
The witch grinned "What a curious little witch. Well… those wands are most loyal to their owners, in connection with your wood? Your new baby is yours and will be yours forever. No handing it down or lending it to someone else. Won't work.
When their owner dies the wand will simply just scream until it's so drained that it dies with it's owner.
Very sensitive to death as well. They are known to shriek and wail if the death of one of the owners' loved ones is near, depending on how close the bond is…well I heard about situations where just the sound broke down buildings and shattered glass. The more sensitive the wand, the more often it will ring alarm to deaths, which can be a bit of a hassle if it decides to herald every death of everyone you ever know… so… wish you luck with that as well.
Oh and if your wand ever shimmers gold and red up and down, then it's angry. most often should align with your own anger though so maybe your professor here should warn the students about that."
Sen actually hung on her lips, clearly fascinated while Giorgia exchanged looks with her husband. This wand smelled like trouble, a lot of trouble. probably no wonder that Sen had been chosen…after all her other twin… was at least as much trouble as the wand.
Rossi grinned "But wand cores tell us a lot about their owners as well. Owners of banshee cored wands are often melancholic and can be quite emphatic with mild temper issues. Usually not violent in their anger but in combination with your wood?
I do suspect you might explode easily when it involves your loved ones' well being.
But one thing I can tell you for sure.. just from knowing your wand I know you are one of the most loyal people I can imagine, even while you're quite selective on whom you actually consider as a close friend.
a very good quality and I hope this wand even with all its odd tidbits and knacks will bring you pleasure and help you achieve your goals. Such a stongwilled wand does need effort but if you put it in I expect to hear great things from you… who knows maybe I'm looking at the next duelling champion or headauror of italy right now."
