Hilgar Ars was sitting on his desk, arms casually crossed as he was waiting for his students. While the nonverbal club usually had quite the popularity, most of the new students dropped out in the first few weeks.
Casting nonverbal was difficult, more than just that. It took a while to even grasp the method and not everyone was powerful enough for it. While he rarely told a student to give up they usually ended up quitting on their own when the results weren't coming.
It wasn't a requirement or even necessary after all. While there were jobs where it was a good idea to master it… most occupations could do without it. It was the reason why it was an extracurricular instead of a class as well.
Due to the high dropout rate he had waited that long for letting his first year join.
Still… his group wasn't small. twenty students that met up every saturday after class. Only seven of this year's fifth years had stayed but he had a good feeling about them, four ombrelune, two pappilonlisse and sadly only one of his own students.
He patiently waited until every last student had walked in, only waving at Sinclair who stood a bit uncertain in the door, to bid her to him.
"Good Afternoon everyone. I hope you had a good week."
The greeting got echoed.
Juliana leaned forwards, hands raised, "Prof? Who is the firstie?"
He smiled as he placed a reassuring hand on the young witches shoulder "This is Rosene Sinclair. She will join us form today onwards."
Liliana tilted her head "A firstie? Isn't that kinda cruel?"
"As she has a banshee hair wand core we deemed it the appropriate measures to help her get over this disadvantage."
"Eh? You mean she got a screaming wand?"
"Exactly. I hope you all will take good care of her as you should know how difficult this will be."
Juliana was already waving her hand, casually summoning one of the chairs to her, nonverbally "Can she sit here, please? She's adorable!"
Liliana scrunched her nose "Unfair."
Ars had to chuckle at the enthusiasm "I was thinking Elio would be good. He's the best out of all of you."
The seventh year grinned "Gotcha prof. Send her here."
Rosene carefully walked to her chair.
The tall italian grinned at her "Italian then? Probably easy to follow. I remember how much I struggled in my first year. Languages just aren't my thing."
"Thanks.. it's… it's a bit hard."
he ruffled through her hair. "Don't worry kiddo. You will get there."
Ars finally jumped down from the desk "So as we have a newbie. Who wants to go over the basics?"
David spoke up without even raising his hand "Nonverbal casting is basically the same as normal but the emphasis lays more on the mind. You don't just say the spell in your mind, you focus on the result you want. Which is basically still the same just that nonverbal casting takes more focus, concentration and natural talent.
The problem lies more in getting your wand to even pick up on your intention than anything else."
Ars nodded "Very good. Furthermore In essence it's basically like training your wand and your magic to be intent based. It's why it requires a significant amount of natural magical strength as a too weak mage won't be able to produce a strong enough impulse for the wand to pick it up. Sinclair?"
"Yes, professeur?"
"We are a bit more lax in this club. Call me prof and if you don't mind.. I call all my students here by their first names. Etiquette isn't quite what you need while tackling such a difficult feat. Are you alright with it?"
"Sure."
"Good, Rosene then. What I want you to focus on for today is plain and simple; producing sparks. Do you remember when you touched your wand for the first time? It's essentially the same. A wand reacting to its owner.
This will be your task for the next weeks until you achieve this. I don't want you to try any spells nonverbal, got it?"
She nodded "Crystal clear, prof."
he smiled at her adaptability to the situation "Elio? I want you to repeat your already learned nonverbal spells today and figure out if the reaction time differs. You think you can manage that while assisting Rosene?"
The seventh year grinned "Obviously. I will be so good at it that you will beg me to take up your teacher role."
"Sure you will. If she archives sparks in a month I may write you the recommendation letter you were pestering professeur Sordeau about."
Elio immediately sat up straighter "Really?"
"Yes, a month though. remember how long you needed?"
"You didn't say we could only practise in the club."
Ars chuckled, "Please let her have some free time as well."
"Sure prof." he grinned before fully turning around to face Rosene "Don't you worry. We will get you to succeed in the blink of an eye. You're free tomorrow, right?"
"Yes?"
"Good, and…. how about an hour after dinner?"
"Every day?"
"Naturally."
"I… guess?"
Liliana rolled her eyes as she leaned back in her chair, pulling a little box out of her bag and placing it on Rosenes desk "It's chocolate. Made it in my class today. Something tells me you will need it."
Rosene blushed slightly, "Thank you."
"Gosh , you're adorable. Can I adopt you?"
"W-what?"
"Yeah, you're mine now."
Elio scrunched his nose "Get your own firstie."
"How about shared custody?" the girl smiled, winking at the seventh year.
"Lils."
"What?"
"But parents need a relationship, don't you agree?"
"Oh? What Are you referring to?"
"A date. We have to be good role models for our kiddo, right?"
Liliana grinned, "I expect flowers."
"Naturally, did you think of me to be a brute?"
The witch laughed "Far from it. I'm looking forward to it, Elio."
Rosene was actually just looking slightly confused between the two of them. What.. What just happened?
Elio grinned satisfied before turning his attention back to the firstie "Let's start, shall we? We have a deadline after all."
Rosene slowly pulled her wand out, still quite unsure about the whole situation but… she was here to learn, right? At least… at least Elio seemed to actually want to help her. This was good, right?
Ars chuckled quietly. He would need to go to Harry later and collect his winnings from the bet. He had always known these two would make a good couple. It would be a good year. He just knew it.
he was still grinning when he started to help one of his new fifth years.
