PART 1
CHAPTER 19
Rose spotted Caroline at one of the tables, coming up behind her Rose placed a hand on her shoulder. Caroline jumped up whipping around to face her. Before the blonde could say anything Rose compelled her, "Come with me, quietly." Caroline nodded, and the girls walked to a relatively secluded area.
Looking into the blonde's blue eyes, she used compulsion again. "Where is Damon?" Caroline looked dazed for a moment. "I don't know." She responded. Rose grunted in anger, "He already compelled you! Dammit!" Rose gripped Caroline's arms shaking her. "Caroline Please! Where is Damon? What did you do for him?!" Her eyes changed sizes wildly as she tried to overwrite Damon's compulsion.
Again, Caroline became dazed before answering, "I don't know." Rose felt old anger boiling under her skin, and then she began to burn. Rose felt a sudden increase in power and then Caroline started to struggle in her grasp. Rose frowned, but Damon didn't have time, she couldn't analyze what she had felt. Running on instinct Rose attempted to compel her again. "What did Damon make you do?"
"He made me follow the compass." No sooner were the words out of her mouth did Rose compel her once more to find out the exact location and again to erase her memories of both her and Damon.
The sound of gunshots reached her ears as she entered the abandoned building. When rushed in, Damon was on the ground groaning in pain with no one else in sight. Rose rushed to Damon. Eyeing the blood on his shirt she knew he was shot, without warning Rose dug her hands into him, pulling the bullets out of his body. She didn't speak, her worry leaving her now being replaced with anger. She felt the veins run under her eyes as she glared at the holes in Damon's chest and abdomen now closing. "Who is it?!" She growled, removing her hands from Damon's body, moving to help him sit up. Her teeth extended and her eyes reddened, "I'll tear them limb from limb."
Damon's eyes widened at the tone of Rose's voice. Her eyes changed and her teeth extended she looked deranged. "It's Logan Fell." Rose froze. "Damon, that's Jenner's ex. If he's a vampire now…" Rose stood and pulled Damon with her. "Why didn't you take me with you?" She questioned her brows furrowed. Damon placed his phone next to his ear, dialing Stefan's number. "You've been through enough lately."
Rose felt anger again, this time enough to make her want to attack Damon, but she held back when Stefan answered. She turned away from Damon walking towards the cage, eyeing the pile of bodies that Logan had hidden.
The last few hours had been nothing but heightened emotions, mood swings, and hunger. Rose knew something was happening to her. From the beginning, her transformation had been anything but normal. New vampires were supposed to struggle with control, they were supposed to be erratic. She shouldn't have been able to handle Damon and Stefan in a fight. The older vampires were the stronger. Plus, Damon had said she was a ripper. They were even more volatile. Since having regained all her emotions, Rose had been limiting her blood intake. She knew that Stefan fed off animal blood, but the small taste she had made her want to bring everything out. Rose opted for small amounts of blood at regular intervals from blood bags. She was afraid. Rose had just regained some sense of normalcy, what would feeding do to her now that she didn't have that unnatural control anymore?
Rose knew there was something wrong with her. The human her, something that as a human, caused complications when she transitioned to a vampire. Which turning off her humanity switch seemed to reset. She needed to find out.
"Rose!"
Damon shouted, shaking her. Rose blinked out of her trance taking in Damon's worried and searching eyes. "Stefan said Logan's at the school. I'm going to change at home, meet up with him." When all Rose did was nod, Damon hesitated to let go.
He knew something was wrong with her but the sudden spacing out had deepened his concern. There was no time now, so all he could do was place a kiss atop her head before vanishing.
Rose took in the last of Damon's scent on the breeze as he sped away. She spared the pile of bodies a glance before rushing out into the dark and making her way to the high school.
Rose spotted Logan and Stefan together, the younger Salvatore's back was towards her which allowed her to see the smug smile on the fresh vampire face. Rose began focusing her hearing as she moved forward in their direction. "You know, your brother asked me the same thing." Logan's tone of voice was laced with superiority, which Stefan didn't seem to appreciate if his tense posture was anything to go by. Rose could say she didn't need to worry about Stefan, but she did. Stefan hasn't had human blood in years, he was weaker than he should have been for his age. Rose had accepted that she was a freak of nature long before she became a vampire, but she wasn't so certain that Stefan would win in a fight against Logan, newborn or not. "In fact, why don't we just skip past all that who turned me stuff and get the answer that I want? How can I turn into a day walker?"
Stefan lifted his head higher his voice tight, "Damon and I are the only two that I know of." Logan tutted, a smirk on his face. "Now I know there's a way to change me into one, cause Rosabella Gilbert is a vampire, and she must have been recently turned. You know, in case you haven't noticed, I'm quite the celebrity in this town. It would be very, very easy for me to expose all three of you."
Logan's eyes glinted as Rose stepped next to Stefan, "You want to know how you can walk in the sun?" She smirked, her eyes wetting in excitement. When Stefan stepped into Logan's space, Rose stepped around him the two allied vampires caging in the local celebrity. Logan, despite being surrounded had a look of triumph on his face, thinking they were going to tell him. Rose made claws with her hand and shoved it into Logan's stomach. "You can't." Stefan breathed, "Don't ever threaten us again."
Rose removed her hand from Logan's mid-section and Stefan wrapped an arm around her shoulder to hide the blood on Rose's hand. He let go once they were away from prying eyes. "Where's Damon?" Stefan asked, making eye contact with Rose. "Said he was on his way."
Stefan and Rose stared at each other, and though nothing was said they both knew an entire conversation had been spoken somehow. Stefan reached for Rose but their intense moment was broken when Stefan's phone rang. Damon's voice reached Rose's ears as she wiped her hands clean of blood on her dark jeans. "He went after Jenna, Dae. At the school." Rose spoke, leaning against the railing of the ramp.
Rose turned to the door as it swung open, her sister heading in the vampire's direction. Elena paused as she spotted Rose next to Stefan. Her mind itched as it whispered of the hints of something more between Stefan and Rose. Elena folded her arms over her chest, a single eyebrow raised in question. "So, anything you'd like to share?" Stefan sighed, before looking to Rose for help.
The raven-haired girl in question raised her arms in a sign of surrender, amusement shaping her face. Rose wasn't about to get involved in the mess that was Elena and Stefan's problems. She had just repaired her relationship with her younger sister, had dealt with her issues, and… acknowledged her growing feelings for Stefan… which she promptly shoved into a box in her mind and sealed shut.
Stefan rolled his eyes at his… friend, it was what she needed to be. He explained the situation to Elena as they entered the school, Rose following behind the couple. They were in the crowded hallway when Matt passed by. "Hey, have you seen Logan Fell? The news guy?"
The blonde spared Stefan a glance before answering his ex-girlfriend, "Yeah, he just gave Caroline a ride home."
Rose and Stefan exchanged looks before she gently shifted her sister out of the way. "Stay here," Stefan spoke, moving up behind Rose as they left the school.
Rose had hidden while Logan pretended to ram Damon into his car. When Liz had left Rose stepped next to Damon. "What now?" She asked. Damon sighed, "He knows something. I'll find him later and get it out of him." He didn't say anything more, but Rose could tell he wanted to be alone. So she gave him his space. She left without a word, using her speed to get to the Salvatore Boarding House. She headed for the kitchen intending to sate her hunger with the blood bags Damon stocked in the fridge.
The sound of water running reached her and when she stepped into the kitchen, Stefan stood with a glass of water, loose pants, and nothing else. Rose could see the tattoo on his shoulder and the delicious v-line she had touched before. Her heart clenched in pain, as she took in his disheveled hair and the overwhelming smell of sex.
The guilt on Stefan's face just made her hurt worse because it confirmed that she hadn't been imagining the growing feelings between them. Rose wouldn't show him how this was affecting her, so she turned around heading out the door.
Thoughts of a blood bag forgotten, she fully intended to drown herself in sex, blood, and booze.
They were over before they had even begun, Stefan had made his choice.
Now she had to make hers.
The empty room he came back to was distressing, but all Stefan could think about was the shock and pain he had seen on Rose's face. All he could think about was the guilt that crushed him, the guilt of making love to Elena but wishing the entire time that it was Rose. The guilt of picturing Rose beneath him, writhing in the pleasure he gave her.
How he had bit his lips harshly drawing blood as he finished because he knew the name, he would have let out was not Elena's… but Rose.
The name of the woman he was falling in love with but couldn't let himself have.
