Who is your OC today?

Seti Tempest

What animal are they?

He is a giant bat… well a "dire" bat. Hybrid between a giant golden-crowned flying fox and black dire wolf (or that's what he's been told).

What do they look like? Special markings, colorations, etc.

Seti looks mostly like a normal flying fox (fruit bat) but without their typical fur patterns. His darker gray fur and his huge size (around the size of an adult wolf) are his only resemblance to his father, and he has the same amber eyes as his mother. He wears black pants, something that looks like a grey shirt under a long sleeveless black coat that has cuts on the sides through which the membranes of his wings pass. All that is kept together by a pair of brown belts that go from his shoulders to his waist forming a cross over his chest, both ending under an orange sash that goes around his waist, passing through a couple of holes on his wings. On top of his head, he has an orange bandana with holes for his pointed ears.

What inspired you to create them?

He was created as a DnD character for a pirate setup. It would be a safe bet to say that he was inspired by Jack… I mean, Captain, Jack Sparrow. I was looking for something that was different from what I usually do, at least on appearance, and that gave me more tools to experiment with when dealing with different situations. That's why I choose a bat. So, take a giant bat, turn Jack Sparrow's craziness up to eleven and you have Seti. (or at least that's what I will be aiming for XD)

What are they like?

Seti mostly cares only for himself, but sometimes he would help others if he thinks they are worth the risk, either because he considers that might benefit him, or because he found them funny or interesting.

There's a fine line between genius and insanity, and Seti has erased this line. He often has unorthodox plans or ideas and, either for better or worse, he's crazy enough to try them. If worse comes to worse, he always embraces the oldest and noblest of pirate traditions. He will fight!... to run (fly) away.

Seti is, usually and despite his appearance, very cheerful and mischievous, and he won't miss a chance to trick anyone in order to determine their value (what he considers valuable remains a mystery). There are occasions on which his cheerfulness is suddenly replaced by anger only to go back to normal a moment later, causing confusion among those around him, not knowing whether to take him seriously or not.

What's their family life like?

He adores his mother, but he never knew his father.

The story his mom told him is the next one: When she was young, she worked in a tavern. One day, while on the job, she was approached by a black wolf, who without a doubt was a pirate, who started to try to woo her. He was funny and, despite being a pirate, quite polite, but she knew that being with a pirate only would cause problems and rejected his advances. The wolf kept coming back to the tavern week after week, seemingly not knowing when to quit.

The months passed in that way, they became friends, but nothing more. Then the wolf stopped coming to the tavern. One week, two weeks, one month... she started to get worried. After two months he finally showed up again, missing an ear and with some severe wounds on his arms and chest. "Occupational hazards" he joked. While she was looking over his wounds, she didn't miss the chance to harshly reprimand him, and after 10 minutes of hearing shouts about being an irresponsible idiot, the wolf said "I might be half-deaf, but I'm pretty sure that you sounded like my girlfriend there."

Flash-forward a few years and they became a couple. They stayed together for a few years, she became the owner of the tavern and he started to go on pirate work less often. When they found out she was pregnant he promised the next job would be the last, but he never came back.

Seti's main objective is to find his father, if he's still alive, and burn his ship. Then maybe take over another ship together and burn it again. He's crazy like that.

Do they have a love interest?

If you ask him, his only loves are the sky and the sea… and probably explosions.

Do you have any stories written about them or that they're included in?

No.

For the purpose of the OC interview the setting is the creator's OC is about to be interviewed by my co-owned OC Vicky Chola. A north american grey fox vixen in her mid 20s. They're in a tavern at a pirate infested port. The interview we did earlier about the creator and their OC is considered a pre conversation between these two before going on the air. Vicky will ask questions based on the answers provided by the creator. Enjoy!

"Thank you for meeting me Mr. Tempest."

Before the giant bat could respond he was interrupted. "More like Pest!" Came a shout from another table at the tavern, followed by the laughs of some patrons. You heard the sound of dice rolling and a sigh before the laughs were cut short by the shot of a pistol. On the other side of the room was now a new hole in the wall, just inches over the head of a red panda. "That was your second warning Zeke! The next one goes between your eyes. Ye heard?! Now stay quiet." With the silence momentarily restored, the pirate bat answered the vixen. "The pleasure is from Seti. Sorry for that, gotta keep those bilge rats in their place."

"Thank you, so Mr. Tempest, just so we're perfectly clear on your occupation and life style. You are indeed a pirate."

"Aye, that is correct lass." The giant bat said as he holstered his gun. "And drop the 'Mr', Seti will do. Manners don't have much value around here after all hehe."

"Very well, tell me Seti, how does one such as yourself join with in with a band of pirates?"

"Reasons there are a lot. Either due to dad being a pirate himself, at least that's what mom said in her stories, or to the amount of time Seti spent on the docks while growing up. Causing problems here and there, flying from ship to ship while taking things that their owners might or not miss. As time passed, stories about a bat as huge and intimidating as a wolf started to gain renown, till the point that it became natural for any Pirate Captain to try to recruit Seti into their crew." He gave a toothy smile. "Though in most cases their plans tended to... sink hehehe."

"So how old were you when you first joined a crew?"

"Between seven and eight years old. Was working in a tavern when one of the patrons, an old goat, tried to make fun of Seti. Long story short, got in a fight with him, he ended with a peg leg and Seti ended with this nice scar." He points at one of the bullet holes in his wing next to his hip. "He resulted to be the Second in Command of a ship, or rather ex-Second in command." Chuckles "His Captain fired him and recruited Seti instead. Serves him right for calling Seti a fruit bat. The only ones allowed to use that name are mom and that weird fox that sell kiwis to Seti."

"So what role did you perform on you first ship? And what was it called?"

"The official role was grummet. Being so young, and inexperienced, the Captain didn't want to give Seti too many responsibilities. Most of Seti's time was spent on the crow's nest, which was later renamed the bat's nest, as a lookout. With an overall good vision and exceptional hearing, it was a good decision."

"How long did you spend in that role?"

"Not much time really, between seven and eight months. But then we had an encounter with another pirate ship, it didn't go well. Seti managed to shot two down from the bat's nest and then flew and boarded the other ship. After fighting with a sword for a while, injuring at least five more, Seti was finally taken down and made prisoner."

"How long were you held captive?"

"A month and a few days. Just long enough for the wounds to heal. During that time the Captain of this ship, a lion, tried to sweet talk Seti into joining his crew. No thanks, that guy was creepy. So, one night, Seti taunted the guard of the cell and bit his face off when he was close enough to the bars. After that it was easy to take the keys and fly off, but not before setting the powders barrels on fire hehehe. To be honest, flying into the night while in the middle of the ocean wasn't the smartest decision, but that explosion was amazing. Woke up two days later on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere."

"What were your thoughts when you found yourself there?"

" 'Well, crap.' Wouldn't you agree with that? Hehehe."

"Indeed, how long were you there?"

"Absolutely. No. Idea. Long enough for Seti to forgot his own name that's for sure. Till this day the sand still falls off Seti's fur with each movement." The huge bat moved his left arm and wing to show the sand falling from it. "See?! It's ridiculous and awesome at the same time."

"Hu, how did you survive?"

"Eating coconuts... at least till they started to talk. They weren't empty-heads, most of them, and offered good conversation so it would be a waste to eat them. Seti began to hunt fish with a stick near the coast after that."

"So how did you get found?"

"A fruit merchant sailed close to the island and one of the coconuts saw it. After being notified of the presence of the ship, Seti flew to it and offered the Captain all the talking coconuts remaining on the island in exchange for taking Seti back with him. He agreed."

"Thank goodness for talking coconuts. So how long ago was that?"

"Twenty years ago. Give or take one year. Been sailing on a lot of different ships since then, but never saw that island or Lewyn again sadly. He was the smartest and funniest of all the coconuts."

"A shame for sure. So what is your status now?"

"Seti is a corsair, albeit unemployed currently. Been looking for a Captain worthy of the title for whom to work. The last two weren't, and they and their ships are sleeping with the fish hehe"

"So what does an unemployed pirate do to get by?"

"Work as a hired muscle on taverns, deliver packages around the docks, steal stuff from passing pirate ships, the usual."

"Sounds like you'll be able to keep yourself busy till another ship comes along. Thank you for speaking with me Seti and I hope you find something soon."

"Aye, let's hope so. It's been fun, look for Seti whenever you want a tour around the docks, this is not a place for a young lass to walk around alone. Might even take ya to meet the kiwi dealer."
