What's your name (real or screen, your choice)
Natali but add an "e" at the end cause no one can pronounce it lol.
Tell me about yourself, age, where you're from, what you do, anything you want others to know about you, sex, etc.
Hey I am from New Jersey but was born in the Dominican Republic. I was a caseworker but quit due to stress. Recently I was a daycare teacher for preschool children. Lost my job due to COVID. Now I am an unemployed student in my last semester of nursing school. I would like to work in NICU or maternity. (Knowing my luck I'll be thrown to the COVID floor lol) I am also an artist and would like to pursue a masters in fine arts, or art therapy. If not, I'll go for a masters in nursing.
How old were you when you left the Dominican Republic?
I left on my birthday. I was 6 years old
How much of that do you remember?
I remember way too much lol I didn't live in a great neighborhood
Was it your whole family that left?
Just me, my mom and my sister. My parents divorced
Why did you come to the US?
Better opportunities. My mom had a BSN in nursing and was head of the surgical department in the trauma center. Though that sounds impressive it doesn't equate to much in the DR.
Did her degree transfer over when she came to the states?
Yes. They evaluate your transcript and make you take the NCLEX. Many people go to the islands to study and come back to the US and take the test
Is she the reason you want to be a nurse?
Yes and my aunt was a NICU nurse. I was a brat at 18 and didn't want to be a nurse so I went to psych lol
How'd that work out for you?
Terribly found out I don't like working with people in general. I wanna work with babies
Someone who can't talk back?
Yes lmao
I don't blame you. So why New Jersey? Out of 48 lower states to choose from what made your mom go there?
We used to live in Manhattan with my aunts and uncles and their kids. Then my aunt bought a house cause we were 14 ppl
Why? Y'all didn't enjoy the closeness? XD
I like my space lol
So you started out in Manhattan/New York city. You crossed the Hudson into Jersey. What was it like growing up as an immigrant family?
Like you don't belong anywhere. Like you're too Latino to be American and to Americanize to be Latino. When I was a kid I wanted to be an American and worked really hard to get rid of my accent. You are treated really differently.
So I've never been up in that area. But I always heard that there were certain areas that were predominately one nationality or another. Such as DR, Puerto Ricon, Cuban or any other nationality. Is that true?
Yup. Like in Paterson there are streets dedicated to one nationality
So were you in those areas? Or did that not make a difference in fitting in?
No, I was in a more suburban area with 50/50 Caucasian and minorities. Though the Caucasian ppl barely went to public school.
Why do you think that is?
They had the money. The high school was one of the worst in the state. I wouldn't want my kids going to a school like that if I had money to get them to a better school
Do you think you'll stay in New Jersey? As a nurse you could just travel and work 2-3 month contracts.
No I wanna move. I was thinking California but was told it was ridiculously expensive. Kinda wanna hit the reset in my life and go someplace new. Don't want to go anywhere we're I know I won't be welcome
What brought you to the Zootopia fandom?
Initially I had no interest in Zootopia. (Gasp! I know I am a heathen) I saw the trailers and thought it was a nice movie but I wasn't really into it. I am a massive otaku (I love anime and manga) and am really into that. It was my sister who recommended it. She saw it in theaters and told me I had to watch it. So I put on Netflix and watched the movie. And I freaking love it! The characters, the animation, story and background. I was floored. From then on I tried to buy any Zootopia merchandise I could find. Unfortunately there isn't many and I had a chance in Japan but I could only buy so much.
How much Zoot merch do you have?
I have the art book, two plushies, and some stickers. I bought the movie for my iPad. I can't find anything. Amazon is a no go and I wanted to buy the tsum tsum in Japan but I couldn't fit it in my luggage. I regret it to this day lol. Japan has a ton a merch.
We all need a Japanese friend that will smuggle zoot merch to us.
yes! I can't wait till they open the park in China. Once this pandemic is over and I am not broke I am heading there
You'll have to take a couple of duffle bags with you so you can buy a ton of merch and bring it back to sell on ebay and make a killing.
yes! Zootopia was done dirty here in the US.
So now that we've laid your life story out for everyone, let's talk about your OCs. And I have to say they are absolutely adorable.
Thank you, they are my babies.
Who is your OC today?
Two OCs today as they come in a pair. Judy's children Nicholas and Nichole. They are currently two versions of the twins in different universes. In one universe they are foxes and are adopted by Judy and in another they are a fox and a bunny and are Judy's biological children. (Nick is not the father)
For now I'll concentrate on the universe that they are Judy's bio children.
Why did you want to go with that dynamic?
I thought it would be fun and interesting.
What animal are they?
Nicholas Piberius Hopps is a toddler rabbit.
Nichole Michelle Hopps is a toddler red fox.
What do they look like? Special markings, colorations, etc.
Nicholas is a carbon copy of his mother. Grey fur, black tip ears and violet eyes. (I know not very creative lol)
Nichole is a red fox, with her tail having a white tip. The only trait she shares with her mother are violet eyes.
So the kids are hybrids but they look like one or the other parents. Do you think all hybrids would work that way in Zootopia?
This is a tough question. Technically yes they are hybrids but they would be considered a rabbit and fox. They would have some traits though. Like Junior would be taller than most rabbits and Nichole I may be smaller than most vixens. If they have kids there is a possibility (very low though unless they marry someone of the opposite species) that their children would be the opposite species. And I don't think all hybrids work like that. You'll have lion and tiger by hybrids or horse and donkey hybrids that have traits of both parents.
So real life hybrids would stay the same and just the ones that aren't able in real life to produce offspring follow that rule?
Real life hybrids would be able to produce. It wouldn't be fair lol
What inspired you to create them?
Other fanfics inspired me. Many folks write about Nick and Judy having kids so I wanted to create some of my own.
What are they like?
Nicholas is outgoing, curious and has the same sense of justice as his mother. He loves to play and perform. He is also protective of his baby sister. He is the healthier and eldest twin.
Nichole is very shy and prefers to be with mammals she is comfortable with than strangers. She is a momma's girl and is coddled more due to being the sicker twin. She prefers to be by Judy's side and doesn't like to stray far from her mother.
What's their family life like?
In this universe Judy is their only parent. She had a brief "fling" with a fox named John Foulfellow (Disney fans will get the reference) and got accidentally pregnant.
Their father didn't want anything to do with the children and gave up his rights to them. The children recognized him as Judy never denied his access to speak to them. Judy believed that they had a right to know who their father was. (That changed however)
The children are happy and well adjusted despite Judy's demanding job as an officer. They loved their mother and are usually obedient (aside from the occasional toddler tantrums).
The twins have not physically met their grandparents since their birth. They have also not met many of their extended family members. Judy hesitates in bringing the twins to Bunny Burrow because she is afraid the rejection her daughter would face. She does have an open communication with her parents so the children do know them.
Do they have a love interest?
Nope too young.
Do you have any stories written about them or that they're included in?
Yes they are included in another story but they are both foxes and adopted.
I am also planning another one where they are Nick's biological children.
Tell us how you see culture in Zootopia. For example, do all foxes or rabbits have the same culture or is there a difference depending on subspecies or region?
I believe that the mammals have regional and species differences. I picture Zootopia in an alternate United States. Where the mammals have similar culture and values to the real US. And other mammals from other countries speak different languages and have different cultures.
I do think that every species has its own culture and traditions. IE you can't touch a foxes tail unless you're a mate, parent or close family. Or bunnies live in extended family units with the eldest daughter being the matriarch. Judy's "275 brothers and sisters" are cousins and realistically she probably has like 14 siblings lol. It just wouldn't be sustainable for rabbits to reproduce that much as they don't have predators anymore.
So you think Judy's 275 siblings are most likely cousins. How would you explain that dynamic where cousins become siblings?
Well for one I believe evolution that made the mammals have less kids. Predators weren't eating prey and ensuring the species survival by having a ton of kids wasn't needed it. In the past in order to survive the rabbits stayed together in these family units to survive. To share food, labor and childcare. It became cultural. Since everything is a collective your cousins become your siblings.
Do you think there are any holdovers in fox society like this?
Do I think there are holdovers in fox society? Yes definitely! Especially when it comes to mates.
So in the case of the twins, do they favor their species cultures more or are they a blend?
Yes definitely! Especially when it comes to mates.I believe foxes are extremely monogamous and believe in a lifetime mate. Of course there are disagreements that lead to divorce, or the death of a spouse. It is generally frown upon to leave a mate or divorce. The younger generation seems to be moving on from this sentiment.
So in the case of the twins, do they favor their species cultures more or are they a blend?
They are a blend. Their mother Judy researched and consulted about fox culture for her daughter. She didn't want her daughter to feel ashamed of her species. She also wanted her son to understand and appreciate his twin's species.
Of the two versions that you have for the twins, which one do you like the most?
I like the version where they are Judy's biological children.
For the purpose of the OC interview the setting is the creator's OC is about to be interviewed by my co-owned OC Vicky Chola. A north american grey fox vixen in her mid 20s. They're both in a studio booth with headphones on and microphones to speak into. The interview we did earlier about the creator and their OC is considered a pre conversation between these two before going on the air. Vicky will ask questions based on the answers provided by the creator. Enjoy!
"Welcome everyone to another edition of the Characters of Zootopia show! I'm your host Vicky Chola and joining me today are two special guests, Nicholas and Nicole Hopps. Thank you for joining me."
Nicholas: Hello, thank you for having us.
Nichole: Hello, thank you.
"We're so glad to have the two of you today. And so you two have a special relationship with one another. Care to share that with our audience?"
Nicholas: Of course! This lovely young lady is my precious baby sister.
Nichole: I am your sister and only younger by three minutes.
giggles "So you two are actually twins. Can you tell us a little about your parents?"
Nichole: Yes twins.
Nicholas: Our mother is the one and only Judy Hopps. And our father is Nicholas Wilde.
Nichole: Don't confuse them Junior, dad is our step father.
Nicholas: Dad is dad Nicki.
"Is your biological father involved in your lives?"
Nichole: No, he gave up his parental rights after we were born.
Nicholas: Good riddance.
Nichole: Junior! Sorry we don't have much of a relationship with our biological father.
"That's alright. When did your mom meet Mr. Wilde?"
Nichole: We were still toddlers at the time.
Nicholas: Yes we were only two years old. And our older brother was five years old.
Nichole: Jon is our step-brother, he is dad's biological son.
"Do you remember much from that time?"
Nicholas: Not much. I do remember having a lot of fun. For babies anyways.
Nichole: Speak for yourself Junior. I remember always holding on to mom.
"So growing up all you really knew was Mr. Wilde and your brother Jon being part of the family?"
Nicholas: Immediate family yes.
Nichole: And our family members in Bunny Burrow and Zootopia.
"When did you learn that you weren't biologically related to Jon and Nick?"
Nichole: We always knew.
Nicholas: I guess we kinda 'realized' it when we were in elementary school.
"What was that like?"
Nicholas: I guess I was kinda disappointed.
Nichole: Me too. Mom and dad have such a great relationship that it's kinda strange to think they weren't always together.
"Why don't you go ahead and tell our audience how old you are so we can get a better feel for who you are."
Nicholas: We are seventeen years old.
"So you're getting close to finishing school. Any plans for what you want to do or what you want to be?"
Nicholas: I hope to go to a performing arts university.
Nichole: I want to go to the marines. And hopefully become an officer just like mom.
"Are you wanting to be an actor, Nicholas?"
Nicholas: I want to dance. I have been doing ballet since I was a little kid.
"What is it about dancing and ballet that you like so much?"
Nicholas: I enjoy expressing my emotions through dance. Communicating a story through my body.
Nichole: Wow that's pretty deep bro.
Nicholas: laughs Don't tease me sis.
giggles "That's cute. So what about you Nichole? What inspires you to be a marine?"
Nichole: Well dad of course and grandpa Jack. Defending and protecting everyone. That's what I want to do.
"And then you want to be a police officer like your mom?"
Nichole: Yes for sure. I want to protect all of Zootopia.
Nicholas: That's my little scout. Always a do-gooder. Smirk
"So how have others reacted when they find out you're twins? Pretty rare to see a rabbit and fox as siblings let alone twins."
Nichole: Some folks don't believe us. They think Jon is my biological brother because he is a fox.
Nicholas: They think we're adopted sometimes too. Mostly everyone has been pretty cool about it.
Nichole: We do encounter some exemptions though. Sigh
"Can you give us an example of one such exemption?"
Nicholas: I guess the time I beat the stuffing out of that buck.
Nichole: I think we could have solved that more diplomatically.
Nicholas: He was making fun of you and pulled your tail.
Nichole: You made him lose a tooth. Nicholas: That's why we have dentists.
laughs at that "That's one way to look at it. Have you ever met others who are like you? Siblings who have parents from different species and favor one or the other?"
Nichole: Yes we have!
Nicholas: In Zoo York mom's first partner at work was a coyote married to a vixen.
Nichole: They have a son.
Nicholas: They are one of mom's closest friends.
"And what about yourselves? Have either of you thought about having a family of your own one day?"
Nicholas: I dunno I haven't thought of getting married and having kits. Kinda far off my mind at the moment.
Nichole: I guess I'd like to get married. I don't know about having children though. One step at the time.
"Still on the topic of family, what's your relationship like with your extended family?"
Nichole: With our dad's side it is great. We have our aunt Kate and uncle Alex and their kids. Also grandma and grandpa would take care of us when we were little often.
Nicholas: Mom's side is okay… there are some relatives that take offense over us, especially my sister.
Nichole: Not our immediate family, just great aunts and uncles and some cousins.
Nicholas: I dealt with them though. smirk
Nichole: This is why you're always getting in trouble! You can't just go around punishing folks just because they wronged you.
Nicholas: I like to take matters into my own paws. Especially when it comes to hypocritical mammals.
"And what about your brother Jon and his dad? Did bringing them into the family cause any more strife?"
Nicholas: Jon adopted me as his baby brother the first time we met. He was lonely a lot. He didn't have his mom either since she pass away so he really took a liking to mom. But someone wasn't too happy.
Nichole: Who? me?
Nicholas: Someone didn't want to share their 'mommy.'
Nichole: No, I loved dad and Jon.
Nicholas: Mom said you used to push dad away every time he tried to even hug mom.
Nichole: He shouldn't have been so clingy.
Nicholas: You're the clingy one here dear sister.
chuckles "That's cute but I was actually asking about how your mom's family reacted to them. It couldn't have been easy for them to accept right away. Especially after your experience with your biological father."
Nicholas: Grandma Bonnie and Grandpa Stu weren't open to their relationship at first.
Nichole: Our aunts made dad prove himself for sure.
Nicholas: Yeah free labor at the farm definitely swayed their opinions.
Nichole: Dad certainly proved his worth.
"So they basically made him work on the farm?"
Nicholas: Yup
Nichole: Dad didn't appreciate it much but he was head over heels for mom.
Nichole: He really wanted to prove his worth.
"What did your mom think about him having to do that?"
Nicholas: Mom didn't much appreciate it.
Nichole: She didn't think it was fair that our dad had to pay for our biological father's sins.
"Looking back on your lives is there anything you wished would have been different?"
Nicholas: No for us but for mom.
Nichole: I wish mom would have had us in different circumstances.
"I can certainly understand that. Well I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Thank you so much for joining me today."
Nicholas & Nichole: Thanks for having us
And thank you audience for joining us. See you next time!
