Starlight sighed as she looked out the thin windows of the V-tol she was in.
Her first mission! Not just a regular mission stopping crooks, but her first, actual assigned mission with a real superhero team!
Admittedly, she was a little nervous. There were terrorists on board and a supe one to boot. She had no idea how this was gonna play out, and she didn't want to be the cause for the deaths of who knows how many people.
"Hey, Annie, you good?"
She turned over to look at the voice that spoke to her, Alex.
God, she hadn't seen him in so long… she was happy to see him again, especially since he was finally going to be a hero, and not some boyband icon.
"I'm fine, Alex… just a little nervous."
"I think we're all a little nervous." Alex said with a chuckle.
"Speak for yourself." Maeve interjected into the conversation with a smirk. "I'm confident we'll all be fine."
"As am I!" Love Sausage spoke, his loud booming voice echoing through the cockpit. "I believe wholeheartedly that we shall all be successful on this mission!"
His optimistic tone seemed to at least raise the mood some.
"So, Queen Maeve, how's it feel to not be a part of the Seven anymore?" Ice Princess asked curiously as she looked at the woman sitting next to her.
"Honestly? It's a fucking dream come true." Maeve admitted. "That was hellish, and I'm glad it's gone."
"How long were you a part of the Seven, young Starlight?" Love Sausage asked, genuinely curious. "Three days, was it?"
Starlight nodded. "Yeah, and not a single day was good."
"That outfit they had you wearing at the stadium last week," Silver Kincaid spoke, looking at the blonde. "What was that about?"
Starlight rolled her eyes. "They told me that if I wanted to be in the Seven, I had to wear an outfit that screamed 'femenistic pride'." She said making air quotes as she spoke. "I think it's obvious there was another reason for it."
"Satisfy the perverts?" Ice Princess questioned with a raised eyebrow, causing chuckles through the bay.
"Yeah, that's about right."
"Well, I think I prefer this outfit. It's more… you." Maeve said, smiling at the blonde, who nodded.
"Thanks Maeve."
"So, Love Sausage, I gotta ask man, why did they decided to name after a penis?" Supersonic's rather blunt question had a few people chuckling.
Love Sausage chuckled as well. "Please, call me Vas. But to answer your question, we in Russia don't feel shame over bodies, it's how we are raised." He admitted, a fond look wiping across his face. "While admittedly, it's a bit of a comedic name, it's supposed to be a metaphor. Never be ashamed of who you are."
The unexpected wisdom in such a rather comedic name left many of them shocked.
"Wow… I didn't think a name that means penis could be so inspiring." Maeve joked, causing laughter through the bay.
"It's a nice message, but maybe we should change your name… I don't think 'Love Sausage' is a name parents are gonna want their kids saying." Starlight laughed.
"Here in America, maybe, but kids in my home would say it proudly! Even if it is a little inappropriate." Love Sausage admitted.
"How about Dobrinya?" Supersonic suggested, catching odd looks from everybody. "For his name."
"After the old story?" Love Sausage asked. "I'm surprised you know of it, honestly."
Supersonic chuckled. "Well, I got interested in folklore a while back, did a lot of research on old stories and lullabies… Russia always had the most interesting ones."
Love Sausage chuckled. "I don't know, the legend of the wendigo is pretty interesting, and that one's not from Russia."
"Well, when you grow up in America, old legends become pop culture." Maeve remarked with a grin.
"What is Dobrinya, anyway?"
"It's an old Russian story about a dragonslayer." Nolan's voice interjected into the conversation as he entered the bay from the cockpit. "I think the name fits you, Vas."
Love Sausage smiled. "Thank you, Omni-Man."
Nolan nodded, smiling, before stepping forward. "Since there's likely to be a lot of noise where we're going, we're going to need a way to communicate clearly with each other." He held up a small black piece between his fingers on display for everyone to see as he spoke. "These communicators are specifically designed to function even in the loudest environments. They detect the vibrations of your vocal chords instead of sound in general, and they transmit clearly to each other."
As he passed them out, everyone put them in their ears, testing them out.
To their surprise, they didn't even need to push the button, they were voice activated, as they could hear each other much more clearly now.
"I know you are enjoying your time getting to know each other, but we're coming up on the target. Get ready." He instructed.
Everyone nodded, listening to his words as they prepared themselves for a confrontation.
"How are we doing this?" Maeve asked, looking at Omni-Man seriously. "I wanna make sure we have an actual plan."
Nolan nodded. "Our only entrance is one of the entrance doors, so we're gonna minimize possible risks to civilians by going through the back ones."
"Do we any information on the supe who's in the plane?"
"No. He's not on any of Vought's registries, which means he's a recent recipient of V."
"And a terrorist to boot. Great."
"Due to the nature and environment, we do have restrictions." Nolan informed them. "Silver Kincaid will be unable to use her sonic shout, and we will have to restrict our strength so that we do not risk damaging the plane."
"What about me?" Starlight asked. "Since I need electricity to use my lightbolts, I run the risk of cutting power to the entire plane."
"If the plane loses power, I can safely carry it to land." Nolan revealed. "But unfortunately, we need to try not to get to that point, so if you can, keep your light abilities to a minimum."
Starlight nodded, agreeing with the plan.
"If it helps, I could probably take down most of the normal humans in there once I get on the plane." Supersonic spoke, catching everyone's attention. "I'm not as fast as A-Train or Shockwave, but I can move at about 700 kilometers an hour."
"Do you run the risk of killing them with that movement speed?"
"No." Supersonic shook his head. "As long as I'm gentle with the force I use, I can take their weapons and render them unconscious."
"Leave the ones in the cockpit, just to be safe. If we're lucky, that's where this supe is."
"I have minimal piloting skill." Love Sausage revealed. "So long as I have co-pilot, I can fly the plane."
Black Noir, who had been rather withdrawn from the conversation, took that moment to write something down, handing it to Nolan.
I'm a licensed pilot. I can help him if we lose both official pilots.
Nolan nodded. "Alright, Noir and Love Sausage will fly the plane to safety if we lose both pilots."
"My abilities are rather risky, but I can immobilize the supe at least." Ice Princess proposed. "At best, their skin is tough enough that my ice simply freezes them in place. At worst, I remove their limbs from the temprature."
"The civilians take priority. If you have a chance to bring the supe down, take it."
Kimiko, who had been sitting next to Ice Princess, poked Nolan's side to get his attention, pulling out her phone to type something.
How do I help?
"You and Maeve will play defensive. Focus on civilian safety." Nolan said. "Due to her limited use, Silver Kincaid with work with Starlight to keep civilians calm, so as to incite panic. Supersonic will take down as many enemies as he can, avoiding the supe just to be safe."
"And me and Noir? In case we have no need of replacement pilots?" Love Sausage asked.
"Noir will help Kimiko and Maeve. You will help Starlight and Kincaid."
"And what about you?" Maeve asked, looking at Nolan.
"I will help Ice Princess. Our focus will be bringing the supe down. We don't know what his abilities are, so once he's identified, don't hesitate. If you encounter the supe before we do, take him down immediately."
Everyone nodded. They had a plan.
Suddenly, a red light flared up as a voice sounded out through the speakers in the bay.
"We are approaching the aircraft, preparing to transfer."
Nolan looked at the team. "You heard him. Get ready."
Everyone unbuckled themselves, metally preparing for what would be their first official mission, while anyone who brought tools checked them over to make sure they were okay.
Nolan was quick to exit the V-Tol, opening the side door and closing it quickly.
"Everyone hear me?"
"All clear." Maeve's voice came through his communicator, clear as day.
"When the V-Tol lines up with the plane, I'm gonna open both doors so you can all make the the jump. Supersonic?"
"Yes sir?"
"You'll go first, so as to eliminate as much of a threat as you can."
"Understood."
Nolan nodded as he flew along the V-Tol, the plane easily in his view. "Then let's save this plane."
The V-Tol closed in quickly, lining up it's side door with the rear door of the plane. Nolan made sure they were steady, before he spoke over the communicator.
"Everyone ready?"
"Let's do this."
"Affirmative, Omni-Man."
"As ready as I can be."
"Yes Sir."
"Let's save some lives."
"Ready."
When he heard all the voices he would hear, since Noir and Kimiko didn't speak, Nolan opened the side door to the V-Tol.
As instructed, Supersonic was standing at the door, ready to make the jump to the plane.
Once he was sure that Supersonic was prepared, Nolan quickly opened the door to the plane, nodding to the man.
Supersonic quickly made the jump, and his enhanced hearing could pick up the sounds of an abundance of grunts and thuds from inside the plane.
One after another, all of them jump onto the plane, ready for a possible battle. Nolan was the last one to enter the plane, closing the V-Tol door, and then closing the plane door behind him as he entered.
He was unsurprised to see most of the terrorists in the passenger section unconcious, the passengers all staring wide-eyed at him, and then the group of superheroes who entered the plane.
"I didn't touch the cockpit, and I couldn't have even if I wanted to." Supersonic informed as he approached the group. "Door edges are melted. The entire thing is fused to the frame."
Nolan nodded as most of the heroes spread out, moving to fulfill their assigned role. "Alright. Ice Princess, with me."
The woman nodded, taking her ice form as she followed Nolan, who went straight for the cockpit.
As he walked by, he stopped when he felt a small pair of hands grab his own, stopping him in his tracks as he looked down at the perpetrator.
A young boy, no older than six, had grabbed his hand, wide fearful eyes staring up at him.
"Are you gonna save us, Omni-Man?"
Nolan nodded, and crouched down to the boy's level, smiling. "We all will kiddo. You'll be fine." He assured the boy, patting his head reassuringly.
The boy smiled at Nolan's words as the man stood up, and as he moved towards the cockpit, Ice Princess behind him, the passengers all started cheering, happy at the sudden turn.
"We're saved!"
"We'll be okay!"
"They save us!"
As Nolan made it to the door, he saw that Supersonic wasn't exaggerating. The very edges of the door were fused to the door frame around it, looking like something had superheated the very metal of the door.
He turned and looked at Ice Princess behind him, his face firm.
"You ready?"
Ice Princess nodded, her voice somewhat distorted as she spoke in her ice form. "Let's get this son of a bitch."
Nodding, Nolan dug his hands into the warped metal of the door, the material screeching and bending around his powerful fingers as he gripped the door tightly.
With a grunt, he tore the door from its frame.
And then dropped it as his vision was filled with nothing but the color orange, intense heat shooting at his face as something was blasted at his face.
When Nolan had removed the door, the supe inside had been prepared. Once the door had come away, he'd shot his hand forward, and searing hot magma erupted from his hand, shooting at Nolan's face through the door and blinding him for a moment.
Ice Princess reacted instantly.
Stepping out of the way as Nolan dropped the door and backed up, she stepped around the man and stepped towards the cockpit, her own arm shooting towards the sup as she blasted a stream of ice out of her hand.
The immense cold temperatures overwhelmed the heat of the magma quickly, cutting off the torrent of heat and blasting towards the supe.
The supe only had a second to scream before he was completely frozen from the belt up.
Seeing that she had neutralized the threat, she turned towards Nolan, who had just finished cleaning the magma out of his face. She couldn't help but smirk as she froze some splotches of Magma on the ground to prevent it from burning through.
"Thanks for the distraction, Omni-Man."
Nolan rolled his eyes as he walked past her into the cockpit.
And he was horrified.
The controls were completely melted. There was absolutely no way for Love Sausage or Noir to pilot the plane, the controls were destroyed.
But the steering wheels were still intact…
Maybe this could be salvaged, to make things a little easier.
"Love Sausage, Black Noir!" He called as he left the cockpit, moving towards the back.
The two supes turned to him immediately as he passed them.
"What happened?"
"Whoever the supe was, he fried the controls. Most of the gear is inoperable, but the steering wheels are intact."
"Are we going to try an emergency landing?" Love Sausage asked, but Nolan shook his head.
"Not here, we need to get to land." Nolan explained. "Get on the commications, Sausage, see if they still work. If they do, warn air traffic control that the plane is landing on the nearest beach."
"Do you plan to carry the plane?" Love Sausage asked, and Nolan nodded.
"I have to. It's the safest option." Black Noir and Love Sausage glanced at each other, and then nodded.
"We will guide the plane as best we can. Keep us leveled and in the air until we reach land." Love Sausage instructed, and Nolan nodded.
"On it."
Without another word, they went their separate ways. Love Sausage and Noir rushed to the cockpit, taking the seats as they took the wheels,
And Nolan quickly exited the plane out the back, flying out under in seconds as he rested his hands on the smooth surface of the bottom of the plane.
With little struggle, he gently moved the plane, keeping it leveled as he flew it through the air.
He could feel the flaps moving, trying to change the direction of the plane from where Love Sausage and Noir were piloting it. He followed their lead.
He just needed to keep the plane in the air. They were the pilots.
The trip to the beach was smooth. Nolan's strength allowed him to easily keep the plane in the air with little struggle, and once they reached it, Nolan had instructed the rest of the team to make sure everyone was okay.
He was unsurprised to see Butcher and his team already at the beach. Love Sausage had luckily been able to get in contact with air traffic control, and considering their resources, and the fact that it was Butcher that had warned them of the mission, it wasn't a surprise to see them all there now.
Butcher stood, watching Nolan land with the plane in his grip, unfazed by the site, while MM, Frenchie, and Hughie were all watching in amazement at the display of strength.
Thankfully, they'd already evacuated the beach, so Nolan was able to safely land the plane, setting it down on the sandy beach beneath him.
Once he'd sat the plane down, he quickly flew up, no longer needing the doors anymore, and ripped off both the back and front door, the inflatable emergency slide inflating immediately as he entered the plane.
"Is everyone alright?" He asked, his gaze running across both his team, and the passengers.
To no one's surprise, the passengers immediately started cheering, causing smiles to break out among the heroes, Nolan chuckling at the site.
"I'm glad you're all okay. Now, if you'll please make your way to the exits in an orderly fashion, we have EMT's outside to make sure nobody has sustained any sort of injuries or trauma from this experience."
"Are you a new superhero team?" A teenage girl asked the heroes, all of them turning their attention to her.
Nolan chuckled. "We're the Guardians of the Globe. And we'll protect everyone on this planet."
With those words, Nolan looked at Starlight and Maeve. "Will you two make sure everyone leaves the plane?"
The two nodded, moving to check on everyone as they guided the passengers to leave the plane.
Nolan turned his attention towards Supersonic and Love Sausage. "You two, round up all the terrorists who are still alive and bring them outside. Butcher has a police van waiting to haul them off."
"And what about the supe?" Supersonic asked.
"If he's still alive by some miracle, have Butcher has a specialized van that will nullify the Compound V in his blood."
The two nodded, and Nolan turned towards the rest of the team. "You all can branch out. Help Maeve and Starlight, or Love Sausage and Supersonic, or just take a break."
Everyone else nodded, and with those words, Nolan turned and exited the plane. He needed to talk to Butcher.
"So, how's everyone taking the news of a supe team saving a hijacked plane?" He asked as he landed next to the British man.
"No surprise, some people have their nickers in a twist over it, saying that Vought's coming back, but most of the world seems to have some sort of faith since your involved."
Nolan nodded. "What's the main complaints?"
"Most of em? No human element, and the fact that Noir's on your team." Nolan rolled his eyes.
"Noir and Love Sausage were the reasons the plane flight to land went as smoothly as it did, and I will not second guess my choice of him."
Butcher let out a sigh. "If you say so, but I don't trust the cunt at all."
"Do you trust me?"
"I'd say no, but I think by now, we both know that's a lie, eh, mate?"
Nolan chuckled at that reply. "That's fair. So, we don't know who the supe is, but he was able to generate magma from his hands. We're unsure if he's alive or not, as Ice Princess incapacitated him, but most of the human terrorists are alive."
Butcher nodded. "Do you know who the terrorists are with?"
Nolan shook his head. "Civilian safety was the priority, it always will be. Unless one of the others figured something out while I was busy guiding the plane, we'll have to find out when they're interrogated."
Suddenly, the noise of a sonic boom entered their ears, and they looked at each other in concern.
"How many heroes can fly that fast?" Nolan asked.
"If I recall, only two, and one of them is currently at our facility, powerless." Butcher said, referring to the supe prison that Vought tower's underground had been turned into.
"So that leaves…" Nolan trailed off as the supe responsible for the sound landed.
"Stormfront." Butcher finished as they both eyed the woman.
Stormfront, for as far back as her past went, didn't really have any crimes under her belt. Vought's files on the woman were rather few, and outside of having a strong social media presence, the woman didn't really have any crimes.
Butcher's eyes went wide though when she landed. She wasn't alone.
Nolan didn't recognize the supe next to the woman, though.
"Stormfront. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Nolan asked, raising an eyebrow at the woman's sudden appearance.
"We were coming to help out with the evacuation, but now I can see we weren't needed." The woman explained, a smile on her face as she approached the man, offering a hand.
Nolan smiled as he returned her handshake. "Pleasure to meet you. You're one of the few supes everyone still looks up too, if I'm correct."
Stormfront nodded. "Yeah. I've been kind of inactive for the past week, though if I'm honest."
Nolan raised an eyebrow, curious. "Oh? Why's that?"
"Because-"
"Because she was helping me." Her companion stepped forward. A man in a green eagle themed outfit, with an eagle shaped shield.
Nolan looked at the man, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, might I know who you are?"
"That's Soldier Boy…" Butcher spoke up, walking up next to Nolan. "He was the top hero before Homelander."
Soldier Boy nodded, smiling at the man. "That's right. Stormfront here saved me from the Russian compound. She's spent the past week bringing me up to date on the way things are today."
Nolan's eyes widened as recognition hit him. "Ah, you're the one that Vought betrayed." Nolan remarked. "They made a deal to give you to the Russians."
Soldier Boy nodded. His face fell a little. "Yeah. Luckily, I heard Vought finally went-"
Suddenly, the entire moment was interrupted by the sound of a gun going off, as a bullet nailed Soldier Boy square in the eye.
Everything went silent as all attention turned in the direction the bullet had come from.
There was MM, standing there with a gun in his hand, the barrel smoking, a look of rage on his face.
"You killed my family."
A/N: So Stormfront and Nolan finally meet, as well as Soldier Boy. Unfortunately, MM also spotted Soldier Boy, and couldn't hold his temper.
For anyone wondering, Stormfront's branding transitions were kept off the books, as well as most of her activities, so she hasn't really been exposed as a Nazi or a piece of shit like many other heroes.
And what really happened to Soldier Boy has been made public, but he hasn't really committed any crimes that Vought needed to keep track of as leverage. The incident with MM's family, as bad as it sounds, could easily be the truth. That's the angle I'm using.
Also, for my fic, things are a little different from canon. In my fic, Noir wasn't brutalized by Soldier Boy, he really was hurt by an artillery blast. Also, he's not mentally impaired like he was revealed to be in the show. He was also uninvolved in the attack on Soldier Boy, he just knew about it and did nothing.
Also, in regards to Supersonic having superspeed… yeah, I forgot that he created sound waves by clapping, not gonna lie. In fact, I thought his abilities were never specified, so I took liberties based on his name. Supersonic gave me the impression of superspeed.
Anyway, the Guardians of the Globe completed their first mission without a hitch, but MM's impulsive actions against Soldier Boy might create some problems.
That's the end of the chapter, don't forget to review, and I'll see you all in the next one.
