"Oh, he's a real cutie, isn't he?"

Alex groaned under her breath as she watches Brooks make another play bowed growl towards the ball, she'd just sent him chasing after. She could already tell the eager dog would overshoot his target and she'd been right, but it was fun watching him seem to actually relax once she'd reassured him, she wouldn't disappear as soon as he'd left her side. The watching woman had a heartbreaking feeling that had happened more than once in the pup's history given how many times, he'd stopped to look back at her over his shoulder those first few tosses of the newly given ball Kara had gotten him the night before on the way back to the hotel from the shelter.

"Honestly Kara's picture when J'onn had her pick me up while you two napped didn't even do the boy any justice, although that might have been because the two of you were so snuggly this morning, I could hardly see him."

Again, Alex groans under her breath but this time it was more for the creeping blush threatening to break her attempted indifference to the newcomer's presence. "What are you doing here?" she probes the air around them still chilly enough to send little puffs of steam into the air as she talks.

"Wow no, Hey Luc. No good to see you, Luc not even a lousy Dang Lane you been working out you look dang fine in those jeans. Nope just cutting right to the chase as always." Lucy huffs her hand fisting even tighter into the pockets of her jacket as she giggles at the dog's continued playful puppy-like antics before he decides to snatch the thing up and trot back with his prize held tightly between his teeth.

Alex rolls her eyes behind the cover of her sunglass despite the early not-so-sunny look of the area before letting the darkened shades slide down her nose enough to meet the other woman's pouting expression with a dulled one of her own. "Hello, Lucy," she greets.

"Hello, Alex." Lucy smiles even bouncing forward to press a kiss to the unamused woman's cheek as Brooks draws closer to where the two stood. "Now introduce me to your cutie friend." The military woman demands "Brooks, wasn't it?" she questions catching Alex's eye as the two-track the dog's now much slower progress back towards them.

Brooks giving the now kneeling woman a wider than expected birth as he circles back to press untrusting against Alex's other side the ball momentarily dropped a few steps away as the dog looks between Alex and Lucy unsure.

"Ouch doggie-o that hurts." Lucy pouts her arms now crossed over her front as she sits down in the grass for a better brace when a sudden blast of chilly morning air sweeps over the empty park.

Alex only smiles dropping to kneel beside the nervous dog with a reassuring rub against his scruff. Brooks immediately leaned against the touch despite the mistrust still clouding his darting eyes "We're okay Brooksie." She promises nuzzling her forehead to the dogs. "Yes, she can be a real pain in the back side, but we can consider Lucy a friend." Alex informs rubbing slowly against the dog's soft ears.

"A kick-ass friend who's covering your girl's shapely ass I might add, Doggie-O, so I think that deserves at least a few pets for your new auntie Lucy." Lucy comments now gently tossing Brook's momentarily left ball between her hands as if attempting to lure the dog closer.

"What?" Alex questioned now sitting on the grass herself. Brooks still pressed tightly against her Lucy free side as her fingers continue to gently massage his scruff.

"Yeah, that's why J'onn had me come in on such short notice. Apparently, some Gotham cop has ordered a back-channel dig into your FBI file." Lucy informs tossing the barrowed dog toy over, to be easily caught by her shocked best friend. "Witch you don't actually have by the way." She adds making an expected gesture for the ball to be tossed back when the act finally seemed to catch the eye of the dog snuggled against Alex's other side.

"When was this dig?" Alex asks

To say Lucy's interest peeked would be an understatement considering just from the 'kicked puppy' tone alone she'd momentary given up on tempting the adorable rescues now climbed fully into Alex's lap to nuzzle under the hurt-looking woman's chin.

"about…" Lucy pauses making a glance at her watch whilst she wrestled with if she should answer at all considering how hurt Alex looked at the already given information as the agent's arms wrap just a little tighter around the softly humming dog rubbing his muzzle against her shoulder as she hugged him. "an hour or two ago."

Before Alex had pulled herself together enough to ask the name of the officer who'd ordered the search considering at the moment only one person at the Gotham police department would know about her FBI cover story the still chilly air was broken by the approaching hum of a motorcycle.

"So, is this the mystery Sawyer, Kara told me about?"

Alex can't help but giggle when even with the mention of Maggie's last name Brooks immediately brightens within the circle of her arms. The dog now alternated between snuggling the upset human and watching the parking lot as the sounds of the motorcycle drew closer.

"We had plans to meet up this morning for breakfast and to sign the last of the paperwork so I can take this snuggle boy home without her hunting me down for dog napping." Alex nodes with a shy blushing grin at the text chin setting up the not a date meeting.

"I knew a Sawyer once. We were in a few of the same courses at the academy together." Lucy goes on catching Alex's curious glance as her best friend made just one more teasing dig as she nuzzled her cheek in Brook's soft fur. "Yeah, yeah enjoy it now Danvers, soon enough those puppy snuggles will be Mine."

Alex only laughs aloud at that with a cool "Sure, keep telling yourself that babe." In that easy teasing banter, the two have as she helps her friend up. Even going so far as to give Lucy's flushed cheek a teasing kiss as the motorcycle she'd been waiting for pulled into the lot.

"Whatever, Danvers now introduce me to your Sawyer before I kick your ass in front of her." Lucy scoffed giving Alex's hip a playful nudge as Brooks takes off with a high greeting cheer of a bark as he leads the way over to the idling bike.

Alex would have argued that in no way was Maggie hers if she hadn't been too hurt both by the reminder of her still crush of a new acquaintance thinking of digging into her background instead of just asking Alex right out and also the punch straight to her heart when she way that Maggie too wasn't alone as she tugged off her helmet.
