When Colonnello had contacted her that she was needed to test the future Vongola heir about Charisma she had been confused. She hadn't even understood why but well… Reborn had apparently been more than certain that she was needed so in the end she relented.
She had told them that she didn't need help in her task at all and she would just get there when they required it.
Lal and Reborn were already waiting and before she could even greet them Reborn had already been in front of her, his hand more than just heavy on her shoulder "Skull…" he seemed to search for words and she just raised one of her excessively painted eyebrows "What?"
"I… Nothing. I'm glad you could make it."
"Well Nello said you were bothering him with it."
His absolute focus on her face was almost alarming in intensity and she wrinkled her nose to distract herself "So… Can I start then?"
"Yes. Yes, you can."
His grip tightened for a second, only to pat her shoulder shortly before he stepped aside, his Fedora deeply pulled down.
Leilani slowly made her way towards the more than just alarmed looking tenth generation before plumbing down directly across Tsuna "I only need you to be honest. You can tell them to scram."
She almost signed at the exasperated exclamations of the Vongola's friends.
She shook her head "I'm not gonna fight you. Honestly that would be boring. Not everyone is as uncreative as the rest of the arcobalenos. Honestly, the audacity." She uttered and rolled her eyes.
Her hands were placed behind her back as she laid her weight on it, sitting cross legged. "And I'm testing charisma. As you all know how bad Reborn at this it you should know that fighting got nothing to do with it."
She could hear Lals suppressed laughter but didn't bother looking back "And by the way charisma? Tea would be good, Being a good host is charismatic as well."
Tsuna was already getting up, uttering a stuttered apology before he scrambled out of the room.
She didn't even bother addressing the still fight ready guardians, just humming quietly with closed eyes.
Reborn spoke up though "Skull. This is serious. I really need you to test him, not play a prank."
"Yes, yes Senpai. Just wait. I dare say this is the hardest trial I could give him. It will take a bit though."
"I hope you're right."
"I am. I assume this is to make him stronger, right?"
"Yes."
"Well… let me say this. You were always curious about my flames, right? I'm gonna test him if he can actually use his sky flames. You remember? Properly use them?"
She opened one of her eyes, looking at him and she could see that he had frozen for a second before looking at her with an even more intense look than before "Are you going to teach him?"
"Well… I will explain something to him. Honestly the only thing I would ever allow him to learn about sky flames. Nasty little things in the end… if he can manage it, then he passes."
"Very well."
She could almost feel her fellow arcobalenos intense eyes on her but didn't bother with it anymore as Tsuna scrambled back into the room.
Skull nodded in thanks before grasping the cup "What do you know about how sky flames work?"
The teen was as always stuttering "What?"
"what is their true ability?"
"Harmony."
"well… not completely. Their biggest asset is charm."
He blinked "Huh?"
"Sky flames radiate charm. Can you tell me what kind of effect this has?"
"I can charm people?"
"Not just people. Can you tell me why Sky flames are wrong?"
The whole room faltered but no one answered, more out of bewilderment at her statement.
"Alright, what a bad class. In essence sky users are able to bond to others, right? They are able to force bonds as well. Force someone or something to do their bidding."
Tsuna had gotten pale by the thought "I would never!"
"Thought so. Believe me it isn't nice and I refuse to even give you a hint of how you could do it either but even with all of this there is still one aspect of sky flames that makes it… better in a way. Can you tell me what that could be? What is the reason why your friends follow you? What you mean to them?"
Tsuna again had no answer just staring at her with wide eyes.
Leilani literally could only sigh. Maybe she could understand Snape a little bit better. Dunderheads, all of them.
Yamamoto's voice cut through through "Hope."
A wide grin stretched across her face as she looked up "Very good. You're my favourite student now. Take notes kiddies, that's how you get brownie points."
She grinned at the laugh from the rain before turning her attention back towards Tsuna. "Hope is entrancing. It gives light, it makes people yearn for it and I dare say that it's charming if one can inspire hope in others. If one shows competence and.. well… if he manages to show them hope.
Tsuna… Sky flames radiate hope and you can form it. You can give it a form made out of your true self." She pointed at his chest "Your true self in there has a form, a form you can access with sky flames."
Tsuna tilted his head "You want me to make my flames do shapes?"
"No, it isn't made out of flames, it's made by flames."
He looked completely confused at her.
Leilani just sighed "Does anyone here know Latin?"
Gokudera lifted his hand.
"Can you translate Expecto Patronum?"
"I wait for a guardian?"
"Protector would be more accurate in this instance. But yes. I want you, Tsuna, to summon your protector."
"My box weapon?"
"Nope. I want you to use your flames for it and conjure your own protector, a mirror of your soul to be clear."
Gokudera shook his head "I have never seen any sky do that. You're just bullshititing him to make him fail."
Leilani narrowed her eyes "So you need a demonstration? Needy."
"How would you even?"
Leilani didn't even think long. Something in her had urged her to do this. She wasn't sure why her magic was telling her to teach it to Tsuna or why she was certain that it wouldn't have any negative consequences but… she would trust it. Especially as she was strong enough anyways. There was no chance that they could do something to her and to be honest? She didn't think Reborn would let them blabber about it either. Even if she didn't need to hide it anymore.
Her magic was pushing her further. It was weirdly important and so she pulled off her glove again, raising her hand as her flame sprung back to life.
She ignored the choked out sounds around her, only focusing on Tsuna "You need to collect your flames, alright? Focus on them, make them willing and ready to spring to action. And simultanly you need to think about your happiest memory. Really use the happiest you have and if you don't have one make one up. I always imagined my parents for this. It doesn't matter if it's true or not as long as it's strong enough."
She closed her eyes for a moment, taking another deep breath before she casted the spell.
The silver came out between her flames, forming itself together and her stag was walking through the room.
In comparison to her world her stag now had orange and purple eyes and even the silver was slightly orange tinted. It was weird but she had always known that her magic here didn't exactly work the same.
She left the room speechless though, everyone just staring at the corporal animal strutting through the room, radiating an aura of hope and happiness, almost letting them feel protected even.
Leilani just slowly stretched her hand out. Her Patronus had turned back to face her, leaning down until the snout hovered over Leilani. She swallowed hard. In a way it was painful to have this, while peaceful, still the most physical reminder of what she had lost.
She shook her head and with a wave or her hand the Patronus faded away.
Leilani turned towards the still completely speechless Tsuna "Your turn now. A whisp is enough." and with that she picked up her tea to finally take a sip. This would definitely take a while.
She could feel Reborns eyes on her but ignored it in favour of watching Tsuna try.
In the end she had been right. Tsuna took hours where nothing happened besides him getting more and more frustrated and starting to bawl over not being able to do it.
Leilanin didn't speak though. She just watched, doing nothing besides eating some of the snacks and drinking more cups of tea that Tsuna's mother had brought after a while.
She didn't even speak when Reborn sat down next to her, neither when he addressed her or when he nudged her.
She wasn't really in the mood for talking. In a way this reminded her all too much of Hogwarts, of the private lessons with Professor Lupin… it hurt.
She didn't offer any further help either. She wasn't here to hold lessons but to put him through a trial.
Tsuna's friend refused to leave, even as it got later and night broke in. They all had tried to help him, mostly pointless though.
At least until Yamamoto started to talk about their memories together, just keeping on motivating Tsuna. His other friends quickly joined in, reminiscing and putting all their hope in that their boss could do it, That he was able to do it. They had so much confidence in the young heir that Tsuna at one point even had tears in his eyes.
It was already after midnight when Tsuna finally managed it. His silvery whisp was small, not even lingering for 2 seconds in the air but they were still all celebrating in unison.
The blinding smile Tsuna sent her afterwards was almost heartwrenching.
But she didn't comment on it. Instead pushing herself off the floor and looking at him "Well consider me charmed." and with that she gave him her arcobaleno seal.
While she was already on her way out Tsuna called out again after her "Skull? For what is this good?"
She paused, considering her answer but not turning around "Well… I hope you never find out. Let's just say… It's a protector. It can prevent your soul from being sucked out. But well… maybe try it against the Vindice? They come close. Not quite as gruesome as the creature but prison guards, rotten flesh, dark cloaks and able to suck the happiness out of you? Fits."
