Secrets Chapter 3
Logan was late getting home. Rory was already in bed when he got to the apartment. She wasn't asleep, just sitting in bed watching TV.
"Hey you!" She said when Logan entered the bedroom.
"Hey." He said as he kicked off his shoes and flopped down on his side of the bed. He kissed her on the lips before moving to get up to shower.
"Come back," She said. "I wasn't finished with you."
He laughed, "I need a shower…..want to join me?"
The next morning, Logan could hear the shower running. He looked at his phone to see the time. He stretched and sat up on the bed. He grabbed his sweatpants and a tee shirt, putting them on as he headed to the kitchen to start the coffee.
He met Rory back in the bedroom giving her a cup of coffee and a kiss before hitting the shower. This is typical of their mornings, or at least their work day morning.
Logan was headed to work, while Rory waited on Steph to show up. They are meeting Lane at the train station first thing. Then off to shop for dresses. The three of them were in the back of a town car. Rory was telling them about her grandmothers. Steph told her that Colin told her that Shira wants Logan to meet at the apartment for pre Gala drinks. The two girls started laughing.
"Why is that so funny?" Lane asked.
"While, if Shira is arranging pre Gala drinks, she intends to set Logan up with someone." Steph said.
Rory nodded. "She is still trying to set him up." Rory was shaking her head. "Sometimes I think it would be easier to just tell everyone, but I am not ready for the wrath of Emily and Francine, but that is nothing compared to the wrath of Lorelai."
"I suggest you have a date set, a venue, flowers ordered, dress bought and anything else you can think of before you tell anyone." Lane said.
Steph cut her eyes to Rory to see her reaction. Steph just happens to know that Logan purchased a ring. He plans to propose when the time is right. Steph was trying to see Rory's reaction. Rory didn't seem to be phased by Lane's comment.
The car pulled up in front of Vera Wangs on Madison Avenue. The three girls got out and entered the shop. The mimosa flowed freely, it took over 3 hours for Rory and Steph to find a dress. The dresses would be ready for pick up Friday before the Gala on Saturday. Rory sent a picture to Emily and Francine. She knew if she didn't they would hound her. The last thing she needed was for Emily to call Vera to get her to send a picture.
Lane enjoyed her stay with Rory and Logan. Zack surprised her in New York. The whole gang went to see Wicked and enjoyed a night out. Lane's boys were getting big. She enjoyed time away, but she was ready to get back to see them.
When she and Zack arrived in Stars Hollow, Sunday afternoon, they ran into Lorelai before they could go to her mom's house to pick up the boys.
"Lane, Zack," Lorelai said, standing in the doorway of Luke's Diner. "Come have a seat. I want to hear all about New York. Tell me how that daughter of mine is doing."
Zack and Lane exchanged looks. "I'll go get the boys and meet you at home." Zack told her. He kissed her and wished her luck.
"Tell me all about it. I bet you were surprised when Zack showed up." Lorelia said as they walked into the diner. "Rory told me all about the planned surprise. I was so excited. I had to avoid you all last week. I was afraid I was going to tell you." Lorelai was talking fast. It took Lane a moment to realize what she was saying. She smiled at Lorelai, and told her about going to see enjoying her time with Rory and how she was surprised that Zack showed up. She knew not to mention Logan. She made that mistake at Christmas and Lorelai questioned her for a week about Rory and Logan.
Lane told Lorelai about going to see Wicked. About staying in Rory's guest room. They sat and talked for a while. Lane was careful as to what she said. When she left, she called Rory to warn her about Lorelai questioning her. Rory agreed Lorelai was fishing for information. It was getting time to tell, she just wanted to wait until at least Christmas. She told Lane it was time to talk to Logan about telling.
Rory hung up the phone and went to the office where Logan was talking on the phone. When she entered, he got off the phone.
"Hey," He said. "I was talking to Colin. Finn wants to see if Zack and Lane want to play his office party while Zack is on break."
Rory pulled Logan's chair away from the desk and sat in his lap. "That sounds good. I was just on the phone with Lane." Rory told him.
She reached down and kissed him, sighed and put her head on his chest. "Hey," Logan said. "What is it?" He was running his fingers through her chestnut hair. He knows Rory. He knows something is bothering her. He also knows that she wants to tell him, but is hesitant.
"You know," She began. "Saturday on the way to dress shopping, Lane said that we should not tell the parents, grandparents and such until we have a date, a venue, flowers, well, everything or they will take over." She would pull her head off his chest. She was waiting to see what he would say. They had talked about getting married, but he hasn't asked yet. Now that she thinks about it, he hasn't mentioned it in a good 6 months. Maybe he has changed his mind. She sighed again.
"So," Logan said. He paused. He wanted to make sure he got this right. "You and the girls talked about us getting married?" Rory held her breath. This was it. He is either going to talk to me about it or pack his stuff and leave. She nodded her head.
"Did Steph start the conversation?" He asked. "She can't keep a secret to save her life." he mumbled.
"What secret?" she asked. This time she pulled her head off his chest so she could look him in the eye. Before he could answer, Rory's cell phone rang. She didn't move to start with, but then thought it was best to give him time to think.
She stood up to go answer the phone, but he held on to her hand. "I love you Rory Gilmore." He said and let go of her hand. She smiled at him.
When she picked her phone up from the couch, she could see that it was Lorelai calling. "Hey Mom," She said as she tucked herself into the couch for her usual Sunday phone call to her mom.
