Secrets Chapter 9

Lorelai has been talking non stop since Rory got in the car. After they hugged, Lorelai started telling Rory about the latest happening in Stars Hollow. She talked about Kirk and Taylor, Babett and Patty. Then she started on the Inn. Michele and Sookie. Thomas the head waiter, the new construction on the house.

Rory still had not said anything. This was working out great. When Rory tells the family she is seeing someone and Lorelai asks why she didn't tell, she would say she didn't stop talking long enough for her to tell. Rory was smiling when she got out of the jeep. She could see her dad's car. It has been a while since she saw Gigi.

Gigi knew about Logan and Rory. She is 10 years old. Logan bribed her into not saying anything. He will make a wonderful dad. Wow, I have got to get back to reality she thought. Babies are a no no right now. Bubble, stay in your bubble.

When they entered the sitting room after giving the maid their coats, Gigi ran to Rory when she saw her. "Roe, Roe." Gigi said a little too loud for the older grandparents. Rory smiled. Roe is something Gigi started calling her after she heard Logan call her Ace. She tried calling her Ace and Logan gently explained to her he was the only one to call her Ace. So they came up with a nickname for Gigi to call her.

"Gigi" Chris said when he saw the look on Emily and Francines face. Gigi uses her manner and is being brought up to be a proper lady, but there is something about seeing her sister that makes her forget.

"Dad" Rory said as she stepped toward him for him to kiss her cheek. "Leave her alone or I will take her back with me." Chris just shook his head. He knows how Rory and Logan feel about Gigi. She is the perfect mix of the two of them.

"Rory," Emily said standing up. "Georgian is Chris's child, let him discipline her." Rory kissed Emily on the cheek, then Francine. She turned to her grandfather who was still sitting in his chair. This was unusual. Richard always jumped up to fix her a drink.

"Grandpa?" Rory asked. "You feeling okay?" She bent down to kiss him on the cheek.

"Yes, Yes. Rory, I am fine. Just a little under the weather." Richard told her. Rory could see he didn't have a glass of scotch, but what looked like orange juice. She turned to her mother who only shrugged her shoulders. This is typical Lorelai. She loves her parents, but does not concern herself with the day to day happenings in their lives. Rory often wondered if something happened to her, would her mother ever speak to Emily or Richard again.

Chris moved to the drink cart asking Rory and Lorelai what they would have. After all the greetings, they sat and talked. Gigi was firmly planted between Rory and Lorelai.

"Rory," Francine said, getting her attention. She and Gigi had been talking quietly. "Tell us about some of the articles you are working on."

Before Rory could answer, Emily spoke up. "Are you seeing anyone?"

Lorelai interrupted, "Mom, let her enjoy today before we start the mating ritual."

Emily cut her eyes at Lorelai, then continued. "I am so sorry about that dreadful mishap at the Cancer Awareness Gala in October. I was listening to his grandmother. Clearly she doesn't know anything going on in her grandson's life."

This caused Rory to avert her eyes. Chris was doing his best to keep any expression off his face, but Rory could see.

"Well," Rory said as she began to tell them about the latest article she was researching. "Be sure to keep an eye out for an article coming out before Christmas. I can't talk about it right now, but you will find it interesting Grandpa." Richard nodded his head.

"So we won't find it interesting?" Lorelai asked.

Rory rolled her eyes and Gigi laughed. "Yes, Mom. I didn't mean it like that. It is political so I know Grandpa will like it."

She talked with her grandpa for a few more minutes. She had to lean closer to him to hear him. Her grandpa has always had such a booming voice. She would find out what is going on. Her journalistic senses are on high alert.

Dinner was pleasant. Conversation flowed. Dessert was eaten. They are now sitting in the den getting ready to watch It's a Wonderful Life. This tradition started while Rory was on the campaign trail. After Thanksgiving they would watch It's a Wonderful Life to start the Christmas season.

Rory and Gigi were seated on the love seat with a space for Lorelai, but before Lorelai got to the den, Emily sat down next to Rory. "You never told me about any boys you are seeing." Emily said.

"Well, Grandma, I'm not seeing a boy, the person I have been dating is a man." Rory said. There. It's out there now.

"Rory, Oh, tell me who. Do I know him? You have got to bring him to the Christmas party this year. What does he do? Is he in the newspaper business or maybe he is a writer. Does he have a book on New York's best selling list?" Emily continues to ask questions, but Rory was too busy squeezing Gigi's hand to keep her from laughing.

"Mom," Lorelai said when she entered the room. She could hear her all the way out in the hall. "Leave her alone. You are in my seat."

"I was not aware we had assigned seats." Emily said. "Besides, I wouldn't have to ask her all these questions as you say, if you had just told me about her seeing someone." Emily got up, moving to her 'assigned' seat.

"It is not my place to tell you these things. It is Rory's" Lorelai said, but you could hear in her voice that she was hurt that Rory had not told her about the 'man' she was dating.
