Secrets Chapter 10
They were saying their goodbyes at the door. Rory promised Gigi she would see her before she left for France to be with Sherry at Christmas. She was delaying the goodbyes as long as she could. She was not ready for the questions that Lorelai would have on the way home. She was hoping Lane would call soon. Rory texted as they were getting the coats. Lane is supposed to keep her on the phone all the way to Stars Hollow.
As they were pulling out of the driveway, Lane called. Rory blew out a sigh of relief. She and Lane talked all the way to Stars Hollow. When they approached the Rooster, Rory spoke up. "Mom, drop me off at Lane's. I will be home later." She then continued with their conversation not leaving Lorelai a chance to say anything.
When Rory got to her childhood home an hour later, Lorelai was still up. Rory walked into the house talking to Honor on the phone. When Rory saw that her mother was still up, she told her to hold on a minute. "Mom, I am talking to Steph. Sorry but she really needs to talk to me right now. I'm going to go to my bedroom and get ready for bed. Early morning shopping." She smiled. "Okay, Steph, what happened next?" Rory said as she walked to her bedroom and shut the door.
Lorelai just watched Rory walk into the house and dismiss her. She was shaking her head. Something is up. Lorelai was sure about it. She had a feeling it had to do with Logan. Logan, that is someone she has thought of in a long time until recently.
As soon as the door to Rory's childhood bedroom was closed. She breathed a sigh of relief. "Sorry about that Honor." Rory said quietly. "I'm not ready for her questions."
"Oh, Girl you know I understand." Honor said. "Logan has already gone to his room. Mom would not stop talking about Eliane Michael's granddaughter."
"Pennye Anne?" Rory asked.
Honor started laughing. "Yes, if her name didn't say it all. Josh said he saw Logan gag at one point." Rory and Honor were laughing.
"Okay, I will see you later. I'm going to call Logan and talk with him." Rory told her. Rory ended her phone call and started changing into her pajamas. She could hear Lorelai and Luke talking upstairs, she just couldn't tell what they were saying. It is sure to be about her.
Rory and Logan talked on the phone well past midnight. He told her he was going golfing with Mithcum and Josh before heading back to New York. They said their goodnights and ended the call. Rory laid in bed for another hour before falling asleep. She was thinking. Maybe tomorrow she could tell her mom she is seeing Logan, but to keep it from Grandma. Maybe that would be enough. Everyone knows Lorelai lives for keeping secrets from Emily.
Rory felt like she had just gone to sleep when she heard Lorelai and Luke in the kitchen. Her eyes were still closed when she heard her door open. What she was not expecting was for Lorelai to jump on the bed.
"Get up, Get up, Get up." She yelled.
"Mom. Calm down. It's too early." Rory told her. Still not opening her eyes.
"Shopping, Shopping, Let's go shopping." Lorelai said. Luke stepped into the bedroom with a cup of coffee for Rory. She opened one eye and looked at him.
She took the coffee from him, taking a sip immediately. "I'm up. Get off me old women, so I can get dressed." Rory was laughing at the expression on Lorelai's face.
They ate breakfast at Luke's before going to Westfarms. Westfarms is one of the large malls in Harford. They were leaving Luke's when Kirt stopped them.
"I know you ladies are going Black Friday shopping, but I have coupons for great sale items at the Black, White, Read. If you Ladies are interested." Kirk said.
Before they could answer, Luke came out the front entrance of the diner. "Kirt, What have I told you about standing in front of my diner?" Luke yelled. Kirk ran off. Lorelai and Rory couldn't stop laughing.
The girls had been shopping for a couple of hours. They were just returning from the parking lot. They had to drop off the bags they already purchased. "I need a coffee break." Lorelai said, turning toward the food court.
"Yeah, I could use some coffee." Rory said. She heard her phone beep. L to R: Let me know when you tell her. R to L: thumbs up and a heart.
Logan had been playing golf with Mitchum, Josh and Joshua, Josh's dad. Josh and Logan were in one golf cart while Mithcum and Joshua are in the other.
"Last I talked to you, Rory had just informed the family that she was seeing someone. Has she told them who yet?" Josh asked.
"Don't think so. I haven't heard yelling coming from the mall." Logan told him with a chuckle.
"I am so glad Honor is a girl. I would hate to be marrying the Huntzburger Heir." Josh said. Logan stopped the cart and just looked at him. "You know what I mean."
Logan laughed. "Yeah, I'm glad Honor is a girl, but I would gladly share the role with her. My kids will not be heirs. They will be kids. If they want to run HPG when they finish college, they will have the opportunity regardless of male or female." Logan said.
Josh was shocked. Logan was talking about having a family. "Logan, is Rory pregnant?" Josh asked.
Logan shook his head. "No. We have talked about marriage and having a family." Josh was just listening now. This is new to him. A Logan that is looking toward the future.
Meanwhile, back at the mall: Rory was sitting at a table with her coffee while Lorelai was standing in line for a cinnamon bun. Rory was people watching. She loved to people watch. She was also trying to calm down enough to tell her mom about Logan.
"Wow" Lorelai said as she flopped down in the chair. "I forgot what it is like shopping with a bunch of snotty nose kids. Whining and yelling."
"Mom." Rory said.
"Well, you weren't like this. You were a good kid." Lorelai said. Both just sat there drinking coffee and people watching.
"Mom." Rory said.
"Yeah hun," Lorelai replied.
"I hope you think I am still a good kid." Rory told her. Lorelai looked at her trying to figure out what she was saying. She nodded for her to continue. "It's about the guy I have been seeing."
Lorelai started shaking her head. "No, Rory No, It's Logan isn't it?"
Rory looked at her mother with her mouth gasping open. "How?" she said before Lorelai interrupted.
"I knew something was going on. How long?" she asked. The look in Lorelai's eye was a look of hatred. How could she hate him that much?
"Well, you seem to know all about it, so you tell me how long.?" Rory said as she stood up to dispose of her coffee cup. All of the sudden sitting at that table felt confining.
"Come back here." Lorelai said as she jumped up, almost tripping over her purse. "We are not finished.
The mall was so crowded, as soon as they got up from their table, someone else was already sitting down. Lorelai looked back at the table and grabbed her purse off the floor.
"Now look at what you have done. Someone else has our table. I wasn't finished with my cinnamon bun." Lorelai declared.
Lorelai's phone started ringing. She didn't bother trying to pull it out of her pocket. Before it could stop, Rory's started ringing. She just glared at her mom while answering the phone. "Rory Gilmore." she said. "What?" Rory stopped in her tracks. Lorelai ran into her. "Where are they taking him?...Okay, we are on the way." She ended the call and dialed Logan's number. While it was ringing she remembered she needed to tell her mom.
"Mom, Mom." Rory yelled.
"Hey Ace," Logan said, answering the phone.
"Grandpa had a heart attack, they are taking him to St. Francis." Rory said. She was talking to Logan and her mother.
"Where are you Ace?" Logan asked.
"At the mall. We are almost at the jeep." She said, She had her phone to her ear in one hand and she was pulling Lorelai with the other. She was dodging people at the entrance of the mall.
"Ace, slow down. Take a calming breath before you start to drive. Do you want me to come get you?" he asked.
"No, it will take too long, just meet me there." She said, as Lorelai's phone is continuously ringing. "We're at the jeep. I see the jeep. Mom give me the keys." Rory yelled. Lorelai was trying to find them in her purse, Rory grabbed her purse and pulled the keys out. "Get in." She told her mom.
"Ace, I'm going to hang up so you can drive. Please be careful, Babe, I love you." Logan ended the call. He was already headed to the parking lot. Josh got off the cart to wait for Mitchum and his dad so he could tell them what was happening.
