Secrets Chapter 12
Well the secret is out. Everyone knows about Rory and Logan. Emily was upset to begin with. "They should have told us," she said, but in the grand scheme of things, she was happy.
Richard is at home recovering. Rory and Logan got settled back into their jobs and regular routine with the exception of Rory calling her grandpa every day.
The Hartford Christmas party was coming up. Logan and Rory both were attending together this time. Rory went to her office party alone, as did Logan to the HPG party. It was not planned, it just worked out that way. Rory was trying to finish up, so she would be able to take the week between Christmas and New Years off. Logan had a client meeting that couldn't be rescheduled on the night of her office party.
Life was good. Gigi came to stay with them the weekend before she flew off to France. They had a ball. They went ice skating at Rockefeller Center. They watched the lighting of the tree. Gigi even helped decorate Logan and Rory's apartment. All in all, things were good.
Well, maybe not everything. Rory and Lorelai still talked at least once a week, but Rory could tell their relationship had changed. She wasn't sure if it was because she didn't tell her about Logan or just because she was with Logan.
Rory was in the middle of a meeting with her editor. She could feel her phone buzzing in her pocket. She didn't want to answer it in the middle of a meeting. Lorelai had called earlier, but Rory was not able to answer her call. She talked with her grandmother before the meeting, so she knew that her grandpa was okay.
Sheldon, her editor, asked her if she needed to get the phone.
Meanwhile: Logan was continuously dodging calls from Shira. He wasn't sure how she took the news. Mitchum just told him he should have been up front about it from the beginning.
Colin and Finn helped Logan plan a surprise proposal. It was planned before the Hartford Christmas party. The only problem, he wants Rory and Lorelai to be on good terms and he just doesn't know how to go about it.
This is how he found himself passing the roaster on his way to Stars Hollow. He was nervous. He called Luke's, but was told he was not in. He had not decided yet if he was going to stop by there first or go straight to the Inn.
His question was answered when he passed Luke's. Lorelai was entering the diner when he drove by. He parked the car at Dorsey's. He was still sitting in the car when someone tapped on his window. This brought him out of the fog of nervousness.
"Hey," Logan said, rolling down his window.
"Hey, You're Logan. You used to be Rory's boyfriend." The dark haired man said.
Logan nodded. "Well, I am still her boyfriend." He said as he was getting out of the car.
Jess nodded his head. Logan stuck out his hand. "You're Jess. Luke's nephew"
Jess shook his hand and nodded. They both started talking at once. "You go first." Jess told him.
"Oh, Okay," Logan said. "I just wanted to apologize. I'm not that guy anymore. The last time we met I was an ass."
Jess chucked. "Yeah, you had every right to be. You thought I was there to win Rory back." Logan nodded with his head down. "I was." Logan picked his head up to look Jess in the eye. He needed to know if Jess was telling him he is still looking to win Rory back.
"Don't worry." Jess said. "I know she doesn't belong to me. That ship sailed a while ago. But I will tell you to keep on your toes. Rory is someone you don't want to lose."
Logan nodded. "You think you could convince Lorelai that?" Jess laughed and shook his head.
The two of them walked into Luke's together.
"Sit where you want." Luke said when he heard the bell on the door ring. He had his back to the door filling up Lorelai's coffee cup.
"Unc" Jess said. Luke turned around and smiled at Jess, then he saw Logan. He cut his eyes at Jess, then Lorelai. Jess just shook his head. "I don't envy you." He said in a whisper that only Logan could hear.
The diner was about half full. It was between lunch and the dinner rush. "Logan," Lorelai said as she got up. She turned, heading to the bathroom.
"Hey, man, just have a seat. She will be back shortly" Jess told him. "I will talk to Uncle Luke."
Logan hesitated, but decided it was now or never. He sat down. He could hear Jess and Luke talking in a whisper, or what should have been a whisper. The words 'rich, dick, daddy' are just some of the words he could make out.
When Lorelai came out of the bathroom, she didn't notice Logan sitting at her table. She stopped at the counter to give Luke her order. When she turned, she saw him.
"I was sitting there." She said,
Logan nodded, swallowing hard. "I know, I want to talk to you." he said.
"Is Rory okay? Anything wrong with her?" She asked.
"No," Logan said, "Not really"
"Then I have nothing to talk to you about," Lorelai said. "What do you mean 'not really'"
"Lorelai sit down and let the boy talk to you." Babett said. Patty agreed.
Lorelai looked at the two older women and rolled her eyes. They always had a soft spot for good looking men.
"What do you want?" Lorelia asked. Luke stopped at the table to drop off Logan's cola.
"Lorelai, maybe you should listen for a minute." Luke told her. He walked off as she gave him the death glare.
"I" Logan started. "We" he began again. He rubbed his hand over his mouth. "I want to," he paused. "I am going to ask Rory to marry me." He finally got all of it out.
"Hell no." Lorelai said. This got the attention of anyone in the diner that was not already listening.
"I'm not asking your permission. I just don't want to marry Rory until the two of you are back on good terms." He told her.
"Rory and I are fine. My relationship with my daughter is none of your business, beside, like I said, we are fine." Lorelai told him as she stood up with her coffee cup. She was going to sit at the counter.
Logan also stood up. He took a few bills out of his pocket, putting them on the table. He turned to Lorelai. "It is my business when she cries herself to sleep at night, worrying about the relationship between the two of you."
As he turned toward the door, Lorelai spoke again. "I can't help it if you don't make her happy."
Logan stopped, nodding his head. "I hope you don't make her choice between me and you." He said and walked out the door.
It took him a few minutes after he got in the car to leave.
Don't know how many more chapters to come. I think I will come to a good stopping place soon. Maybe not end the story, just stop it on a good note to pick up later in a sequel. I just feel myself trying to rush this.
