It's not like the arcobalenos had to run far, all of them were ready to scam the forest for hours but… Skull's struggle on the roof was more than just visible. They should have considered it first. It should have been obvious, still the sight of the blood running from her injury, the tears that were flooding at the same pace and her visible anguish let them almost freeze. Only almost, as all of them were more than their emotions, especially in crisis.
Fon had already pulled up the ladder from the shed, placing it against the house wall and Reborn climbed it while Fon hadn't even let go yet.
"Skull."
The sky looked at him, her eyes barely able to make him out but the presence of his flames already making her flinch back.
Blood was still running from the stump that her arm now was, pressed closely to her body and drenching the white shirt of her rain which she was still wearing.
"Skull. Don't move." He tried to speak calmly, his movements slow and as non threatening as he could manage.
"Stay back!" her voice was barely understandable, still trying to grab for air that didn't want to come.
"Skull. Calm down. Don't move."
"Stay back!" her voice desperate but struggling with the words.
"I'm staying here but please don't move."
She was pulling her legs closer to her, almost crouching but struggling to keep her balance for once.
"Skull."
"Get away! Get away from me!"
"Let me help you. Please."
Her magic more than just unstable and twirling around her, not willing to hurt him and only tightly curling around her while tremors and sparks run aimlessly through the air.
"Skull. You're injured."
"Give me my hand and fuck off!" she managed to grit out, sobs still wracking her body as she again lost balance, and her knee fell back on the roof, almost making her slip.
"Careful. Skull. Try to breathe."
"No! No! Get away! Get away!"
"We have your hand, alright? We can attach it again. Just… just calm down."
"Give it to me!"
"Alright. Just wait a moment, don't move."
Viper immediately used their flames to levitate the hand upwards.
Reborns hand was tightening around the ladder "I have it here, alright? It's here. Let me help you attach it again. We can fix this."
"Stay away!"
"Skull, please."
"No! Give it to me."
"Let me help you."
"No! I don't want you! I don't need you! Stay away!"
"Alright. Viper will float it to you. Just stay where you are."
Leilani immediately snatched her hand up as soon as it came closer, pressing it against her stump and trying to get her flames under control.
They were still in turmoil, striking out without any target, lighting up in an unrelated manner. Magic and flames both conflicted by what their mistress wanted. More focused on her emotional mess, her need for her rain, the loss and the hurt completely overwhelming her.
Normally Leilani always had an urge, something that stuck out but right now? Everything in her was still wanting her rain. She wanted to be held by him. She wanted his flames, his calmness. She wanted his support but at the same time his reluctance to touch her as if she was disgusting, him taking Reborns side, him abandoning her was torturing her mind. Her subconscious singling in on that, making it worse by the second. Her hand only mattered for the small part of her brain that tried to grab onto something feasible.
It failed, her magic for once completely scattered and goalless, trying to fix the issue with the bond, trying to find an enemy.
Sun flames not even really sparking up, storm washing over it, tinting the edges or her skin.
Leilani was whimpering, just trying to concentrate while her mind still didn't let her.
Colonnello was compelled frozen, his eyes glued to his sky, her struggle, her state. He hadn't wanted this. He never had. He had been overwhelmed, panicked, guilt ridden and so lost. Just completely lost about what was right. If he was immoral, if he was in the wrong. how he should deal with her. What was appropriate?
Everything had been too much. He hadn't known and… now? Now… he just didn't know. He didn't know what to do. If he should run up and take over. If he should leave it to Reborn as he was the only one to be able to help her. What was he supposed to do?
He had never been that clueless around Skull, not once but they had never argued before, especially not on that level and with others interfering.
Reborn still tried to plead with the sky but Skull just stared back, eyes narrowed filled with distrust and repulsed by him as she tried to undo her splinching accident.
She had never tried to heal such a big injury and normally she had to practise for a while to even get the essence of a new technique but… right now?
Her flames and mind all muddled up? She was struggling, harder than ever before.
Reborn had stayed in place, not willing to agitate the sky even more "Let me help you. I can fix it."
"So that you have leverage over me, to restrict me?"
"No, I'll take it back. But please let me help you."
"I don't need you." she gritted out, her other hand was trembling and at once her grip strength left her again, the hand flailing straight on the roof, slithering back towards Reborn while her attached one hung uselessly there.
She had even more problems to contain her frustration, trying to make it work, trying to achieve anything but she was stagnating, not really knowing where was up and down, her mind a mess, sobs coming out again as she crashed down again.
She didn't want to be weak, she didn't want to give them a field of attack. She didn't want this. She wanted to get it done and over. She wanted to run. She wanted to get back to her airship. She wanted to grief, to mourn, to rage, to let her frustration and pain out but she had no way to get there right now. She was so utterly lost in what to do. No guidance, not anyone to rely on, not even herself.
Reborn had managed to catch the hand before it fell off the roof, not bothered by the blood that was sticking to his hand "Skull. I can help you. I can fix this. Just let me get close, just for now."
"No, I don't want you."
"Don't push me.. us away. We can work this out."
"You mean the same way you pushed Nello and me apart? It's ruined! Everything is ruined!"
He had to swallow hard. It was true that he had aimed for Colonnello as he had to stop his attempt of restricting her but he hadn't wanted this. What had he even tried to attempt? He knew for himself that Colonnello was a good guy and what the two meant to each other, even if one ignored that. They were elements and he had tried to separate them. Sure, he hadn't wanted to break them up but still. It had the same effect. He had messed up.
He had let his emotions rule, even if he had seemed to calm down, he still had let them run wild. He wasn't better than Skull. Even worse, she always had an excuse for her behaviour, he didn't. He was older, he should have known better. Lal had known better, even the rest hadn't attempted anything like this. All of them had acted vastly differently from his poor attempt to regain control again.
"Skull… I.. I'm sorry."
"That doesn't do jack shit!"
"I'm sorry. I overreacted. You are right. I made everything worse and I interfered where I shouldn't have. You can be mad at me, it's deserved but please don't let this interfere with your health. Don't let this stop you from getting your injury healed. Let me help you. I won't complain no matter what actions you will choose afterwards but… let me help you right now. Let me redeem myself even slightly."
"I don't trust you."
"I know, I know Skull and I'm at fault for that. I'm aware. I wasn't thinking straight and it was wrong of me but please. Just accept my help."
Her hand still didn't react again, just hanging uselessly down her body while her stump was pressed against her. Her mind was twirling and she didn't know what to do, not even in the slightest. She was lost, she wanted comfort but she couldn't have it. She had nothing left to lose at this point. Didn't she? "I don't trust you."
"I know but please, just this once."
She couldn't do it. She couldn't help herself right now. She was lost and the more she was staring at him, the more she was made aware of how isolated she had become once again. She didn't want this. She didn't want to go back and even then… she couldn't do it, not without her hand. She didn't want to lay low and let it take over her. She didn't want this constant reminder. Have her hand symbolises what all she had lost this day. She couldn't have that, not when she had to move forward, when she had nothing left to lose, nothing.
"Please."
Her eyes were still hazzed over with tears "Make it quick."
The next second he was at her side, careful not to touch her even more and not to interfere even more in her boundary as he pressed her hand against the stump, his flames immediately lighting up, making her flinch slightly but gritting her teeth together while she stared down to watch as it knitted itself back together, the only proof of the incident ever happening was the scarred line surrounding her whole wrist.
Reborn didn't look her in her eyes, more focused on the scaring "It was too long detached. I'm sorry."
"I don't mind scars." she mumbled out, still staring at it though. Almost wordless at his presence. She hated the fact that his presence in a disturbing way still reassured her. She didn't want that, not at all. He hadn't earned it.
Reborns voice was still forcefully calm "Stay for today. Stay until tomorrow just… take some time to think and we can discuss tomorrow what you want to do."
"Why?"
"Because I don't want the others to pay for my mistakes."
Leilani was exhausted, tears still burning in her eyes and the desperate need to have her rain back. She didn't want to be on the run again. She didn't want to hike to another country to get back to her airship. She wanted to curl into herself. She wanted to cry and just …
She didn't know but right now? She just felt so horrible lost and alone and as much as it bothered her… just having Reborns flame, the sunflame she still held so much contempt for in her proximity just gave this slight tint of reassurement, a hint and stability even if he didn't earn it.
She wanted Nello, not Reborn. She wanted her rain at her side. She wanted to have him back even if she didn't know how and while it still hurts so immensely she just nodded "Until tomorrow."
"That's all I'm asking for."
