Fon was sighing as he looked down again. They all had purple socks at this point and the worst thing? They hadn't noticed it even happening, the only indication had been the small spark up of flames but even while he had immediately turned around he hadn't been able to find her. Not even a retreating form.
One could say whatever they wanted about the sky but her hiding talent was way greater than anyone could actually give her credit for. He wasn't sure they would ever manage to find out.
Sure, he had to admit it had been great fun to hide from Reborn. Viper had managed the longest but even then all of them had been found in two hours, aside from Skull obviously who again had been lost for over five hours.
Fon wasn't even searching properly anymore. He knew he wouldn't succeed at this point. He had circled the area several times at this point and it was just hopeless.
He probably should find something else to entertain himself with until the timer rings out.
His eyes fell on the small animal he had seen several times in the forest already. It was a cute thing. Probably only a few months old from the size.
He watched as the tiny racoon kit dangled from the tree, not skittish by his presence at all.
He rummaged through his pockets, pulling out a few nuts he always kept for Lichi "Did you lose your mother?"
He stepped closer to place the nuts on the tree branch for the kit to reach it. His eyes didn't stray away from it, always aware that wild animals could attack and he rather not want to harm the tiny thing.
The kit climbed closer to it, making a few thrilling sounds.
The martial artist leaned against the tree next to it, watching the kit eat the treats. It was really an adorable specimen, the black mask around its eyes prominent and it even had another stripe on his forehead, resembling a lightning bolt and the green eyes were simply so endearing it would be hard to say no to them.
He paused, his eyes narrowing as he stepped closer. Racoons didn't have green eyes. This…
His jaw dropped "This… this can't be."
The kit stared straight at him and the sound it made almost resembled laughter.
"Skull?"
The racoon was actually laughing at him so heavily it had problems staying on the branch and all Fon could do was stare slawjacked at the animal.
He was even more certain when the kit winked at him. This… this would explain a lot. He had seen the racoon several times in the forest, whenever Skull had been missing. He had never paid it any mind, always more focused on searching for her but… still. He was speechless.
He actually had to sit down. He had no clue how Skull had managed this, not at all. He didn't feel even a hint of mist flames on her.
He needed a few minutes to collect himself, still staring at the raccoon kit who had never stopped her cackling.
He tried to regain his composure before he started to pulsate through the bond, signalling everyone to come to this spot.
It didn't take long and the racoon was still wheezing at him.
He was completely focused on her "I found Skull."
The hitman turned around"Did she run off?"
"No, she's still here." He gestured at the racoon.
Reborn didn't even look at the animal, more focused on the storm "Did you take anything this morning?"
"No, this is Skull."
"This is a wild animal. I get that you don't want to lose but… Fon. This is a racoon not a human."
"It's Skull. I'm certain. She laughed at me for the last few minutes. She's still laughing, Reborn."
"Are you shitting me?"
Before he could say anything the kit had backed down, giving herself more room to run before jumping straight at Colonnello, who caught the animal barely at his chest. His hands immediately fumbling as under their eyes the racoon started to grow, sunflames lighting up as in a matter of seconds the kit had transformed into his sky.
Leilani was still laughing "Told you I'm a Trash panda."
Colonnellos jaw had dropped, he didn't even know how he had been able to not drop her.
She was still laughing at their faces, at the disbelief she could see on all of them "Oh and as Fon won… you're really good at finding. If your character wasn't well like this I would swear you would be a Hufflepuff but… Reborn your socks need a new colour."
She didnt even lift a finger when the colour changing spell activated on Reborns socks.
The hitman didn't even falter, just staring at the sky "How…"
"Sunflames. I already told you that last time."
"But… No?"
"Yes."
"That's not how sunflames work."
"They do."
"No."
"Yes, they do."
"No."
She tilted her head "You just saw it."
"But…"
"It's possible. I already told you you have no clue about your flames. I'm just proving it to you again."
Verde looked like he had seen a ghost, completely focused on the sky "You did that with Sunflames? You changed into an... actual animal with sunflames?"
"Yes, I mean not solely. it's a process but the actual transformation is sunbased."
"How… I…"
Leilani could do nothing else but grin as she looked at the still flabbergasted hitman. "You want to learn?"
He paused, his eyes wandering over her "I can?"
"Yeah, it's really not that.. well it is hard but you are the greatest suns. It should work."
"You're.. willing to teach me?"
"Yeah." She pushed herself off from Colonnello "I think I saw it around here… Just gimme a second."
With proficient eyes she looked around only to brighten up when she sat foot behind another few trees, bending down to pick something up, letting her flames wash over it and bouncing back.
She offered the single leaf towards Reborn who just stared at it "You have to place it in your mouth for a month. If you swallow or remove it you have to start again."
"That is mandrake."
"Yes?"
"Mandrake is poisonous"
"So what?"
"You want to poison me?"
"No."
"You say this is the way to become… an animal?"
"It's the first step. Afterwards you have to put it into a crystal vial with one of your hairs, a silver teaspoon of dew from a place that has neither seen sunlight nor had been touched by human feet and a chrysalis of a Death-head Hawk Moth."
He stared at her not taking the leaf.
"Then you put the vial in a dark place for seven days where it's completely protected even from just looking at it. If there is no electrical storm when the time runs out you have to start the process again."
He still stared at her.
"Oh and every sunrise and sundown you have to say 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus'."
he still didn't take it.
"When lightning appears you have to go where you placed the vial which should have a blood-red potion in it. Speak the incantation again and drink the potion and then you should transform for the first time if you focus on your flames.
The turning back part is a bit tricky, same as actually learning to do it without any struggles but I can help you with that."
She was still offering him the leave.
Reborn took a deep breath. "You know… if you wanted to decline my interest in it you wouldn't have needed to come up with such bullshit."
"It's not bullshit?"
"Skull…. you spouted the biggest bullshit I have ever heard in my whole lifetime."
"I didn't."
"Sure. If you want to poison me you should try it differently. This won't work on anyone."
"I'm not trying to poison you."
"Sure."
She sighed "I know exactly why you all have such poor uses of your flames." she shook her head "Really? Where's the spirit?"
"You mean my sanity? Clearly present but I'm doubting yours. Where is even the logic in all of this?"
"That's the fun part. Logic doesn't apply." she still shoved the leaf at his chest "Take it if you ever realise what you're missing out on." and with that she bounced back to her rain, taking his hand to pull him back to the house.
Why Leilani is a Racoon
Racoons are mischievous, intelligent, have a good memory and are able to solve puzzles. They can open door knobs or handles and therefore can break into bins or even break out of places.
They are incredibly adaptable which shows in the way they are now living almost everywhere.
They are omnivores that eat almost anything, in suburban areas they often eat trash as well.
They have really bad long-distance vision and are either colourblind or bad at distinguishing between colours. Their other senses make up for their poor eyesight though. Especially their touch.
Racoons actually don't naturally wash their food, water just makes their paws even more sensitive so it's almost like a ruse because rubbing their paws together or 'washing food' means they are taking in information.
They have great memory and a high IQ, excellent learners and while they are great at finding solutions they are able to remember these solutions and use them years later. Their problem solving abilities therefore grants them the ability in urban areas to even break through locks and latches on not only rubbish bins but even houses.
They are known to snoop around and pilfer scabs. They have a reputation for petty crime.
Clever, crafty and tenacious and always find a way to get what they are after but they are so much more than that. Charismatic mammals with lots of virtues. They are playful, sneaky and loveable.
They are most famous for thievery but they represent not only that in that context; theft, roguishness, pests, chaos, criminal behaviour or menaces.
But their thievery is not that simple and just an aspect of nature. It's because of their great adaptability and intelligence that it came to be, as they used it to survive and thrive in spaces inhabited by humans. They are streetwise and can be associated with tenacity, adaptability and endurance because of that.
Their forepaws' sensitive and dexterous ability which leads to them being great break in artists represents their craftiness, resourcefulness and problem solving abilities.
A racoon is a sign that some people are living their lives behind a mask, which makes them a reminder for others to be honest and authentic to others.
Native Americans tribes have myths and stories where the racoon appears as a trickster figure which uses their craftiness to outwit others and succeeds through problem solving.
While not really appearing in Celtic symbolism they can be assumed to hold similar meanings as other forest critters which would be; courage, ferocity and grit.
Racoons in dreams have many interesting symbolisms. They may represent something that has been stolen, feeling as though you have lost something along the way if you look back at your life. A racoon in your dream may symbolise your desire to recover what you have lost or missed out on.
They can also represent hiding, as they usually wander through the night and sling through dark spaces which doesn't fit a human who requires light, clarity and truth in order to be healthy. Which therefore symbolises that one has to try to get comfortable with being vulnerable to show their authentic self to others. Even while hiding seems saver.
It can also represent curiosity or a desire to investigate. Which often means that you have a new opportunity in your life and you have an immense desire to see it through and find out what your future might look like.
Encountering a racoon can be a reminder to coexist with others that don't necessarily live their lives like you do. They may be pests but in the end they are just trying to survive.
As racoons are playful and mischievous an encounter may represent your inner child and the relationship one has with their youthful impulses. While Immaturity isn't necessarily good, youthful exuberance is an important thing to hang onto even as you get older.
Racoons near one's home can be an omen of deception. A they are masters at finding weak spots in the security of a location and to use those for getting entry. So in that instance, make sure that nobody is taking advantage of your emotional blind spots in order to gain your trust (*cough* Luce *cough*). They are a reminder to be careful when it seems too good to be true.
In myths and folklore these tricksters use their wily behaviours to procure food and triumph over others. In some myths they are the ones that learn a lesson if they get outsmarted or or fail to overcome the might of nature.
In Japan they are associated with Tanuki (racoon-dog) which are associated with supernatural forces. They are shapeshifters that can fly, play drums on their belly and they terrify unsuspecting hunters(*cough* "hunters" *cough*). They are associated with forest spirits, magic, mischief, fun and mystery.
If they are your spiritual animal you are most likely to be a free-spirited person who seems disorganised but their chaotic ways are actually the result of unwavering focus. Often people with this spirit animal are eccentric and do things their own way. These people are unafraid to be different and try new things.
The racoon spirit animal might seem wild but if there is a goal they are invested in they have single-minded focus and determination. People with this spirit animal often get distracted if they don't take interest in their activity but if their curiosity gets awakened they won't falter.
While racoons are seen as solitary animals they are more social than they were given credit to before. People with this spirit animal are natural teachers who enjoy passing their own learned solutions and knowledge to the new generation.
As a totem animal they get associated with mystery and deception and are excellent at showing different "faces" for different situations. Which allows them to blend in even if they don't feel comfortable.
Their different faces is a skill which allows them to easily get along with new people. But the importance of staying true to oneself and showing one's vulnerable honest personality is important when the relationship calls for it.
As a power animal they symbolise dexterity and resourcefulness. People with this animal rarely meet problems they can't solve by themselves or through rolling with the punches. They are unafraid to solve problems through unconventional means.
They think outside the box but they may have problems seeing simple answers that lay right in front of them.
As a tattoo it often gets used by people who feel rejected or had a tough time finding a place to fit in. They also get chosen as a symbol of fastidiousness.
In Japan this tattoo may indicate magic, sanctity or good fortune.
In general this tattoo can mean resourcefulness, intelligence, stubbornness or shyness. People who choose it may feel like they are hiding behind a 'mask' when interacting with others.
