Lexie slammed her fist down on her alarm clock. "I'm awake!" She growled, throwing back her covers and stepping out of bed.
The truth was, Lexie hadn't even been to sleep yet. Her alarm had gone off as soon as she had started to drift into sleep.
The day before had been MANIC! Originally, Lexie's shift was only meant to be four hours long… It turned into ten!
Put that on top of a hectic twilight shift the night before, not to mention the fact that she had just recovered from a cold.
Lexie was a bit more than just a little tired… She was completely knackered! But, she still had a shift to report to.
So after grabbing a gigantic mug of coffee from the replicators, Lexie headed down to Engineering. 'I'm too tired for this…'
When she stepped into the turbo lift, she was greeted by a very happy looking Kirk. "Morning, Lexie."
"Is it morning? I haven't noticed?" Lexie grumbled as she sipped her coffee, it was then when Kirk noticed how tired she looked.
"Dam, Lex. You look-" Kirk stopped dead when Lexie's blood shot eyes met his, "Don't… Just don't. You maybe my Captain, but I will still hit you."
The turbo lift doors then opened and Lexie stepped out, leaving one very nervous and very scared Captain to head up to the bridge.
The next person Lexie encountered was McCoy, he went to say good morning to her, but Lexie just held up a hand.
"Say 'Good Morning' to me and you'll regret it, clear?"
"But, Lexie?"
The red-haired turned to face him, her blood shot eyes staring right into his. Almost into the man's soul.
"Do you want to walk around for the rest of the day with a black eye?"
Of course, the Doctor shook his head. He didn't think that anyone would like that.
"Then don't say another word, otherwise you will be. Understand?"
McCoy just nodded his head slowly, he wasn't going to argue with her. Not when she held a mug of piping hot coffee and the threat of getting a black eye.
Lexie soon entered Engineering, to immediately get called by Scotty. "There ye are, lassie. I was starting to wor- Good lord! Are you alright, lassie?!"
Scotty was instantly worried when he saw how tired his friend looked, not to mention she looked ill.
"Oh I'm fine, Scotty. If you discount the fact I haven't slept for almost twenty four hours!" Lexie cried.
Now that, startled Scotty. So much so that he took a step back.
"Don't get me wrong, I love my job. But even I can't function on no sleep!"
Lexie continued to yell, that was until a hypo was jabbed into her neck. Making her collapse into McCoy's arms.
"Someone's a little groggy today it seems." McCoy chuckled as he picked her up, instantly seeing the look of worry on Scotty's face.
"Don't panic, Scotty. I only sedated her, the kid needs sleep. I'll take her back to her quarters."
Scotty just nodded as he watched McCoy walk away, the sleeping Lexie in his arms.
When he turned around, there were several Engineers standing there.
"Nothing to see here, back to work." Which everyone did swiftly.
Lexie was out for almost two days, clearly she needed the sleep. But after that she was back to her normal self.
Word quickly spread around the command crew about Lexie's behaviour.
So everyone knew not to annoy Lexie when she was tired.
But of course, that didn't last long.
A few days later, Lexie was once again working off a small amount of sleep and Kirk made the mistake of asking her a question.
Kirk spent the rest of his morning in Sick Bay, with an ice pack over his eye. After Lexie had thrown a wrench at him.
At least now, he knew better.
