Leilani went back to the table where she had placed the box with the prepared objects she thought would be needed for this lesson. "Who wants to go first?"
Reborn casually leaned forwards "Me, obviously."
"Very well" she picked up the small box of matches that was sitting on the lid, pulled one out and placed it right before Reborn on the table "I want you to turn this into a needle."
Reborn looked at her exasperated "You know we can't all use every flame like you do."
"I know."
"And I'm not a mist."
"Yeah, I'm not telling you to illusion it as a needle. I'm telling you to turn it into a needle."
"That makes even less sense."
She rolled her eyes "It's sunflame based. really."
"You just want to pay me back, don't you?"
"No, I'm serious. You are using transfiguration on it and most transfigurations are sunflame based."
"And how?"
"Well in my theory you are activating the cells to change."
"Very nice explanation but I see no reason why this should work."
"Honestly, I learned that at eleven. It's the first sun thing I learned and honestly one of the first things in general."
"You want to tell me you were able to use sun flames to a degree I have never heard of while it isn't even near your primary?"
"Well it's magic. Flames are magic too."
Reborn still seemed completely unimpressed.
"You're annoying. Just watch, alright?" She didn't even pick up the match, sun flames sparking over her fingertips and the match immediately transformed. "See? No mist flames. It's sun."
Reborn simply stared at her as if she had grown a second head.
Verde was simply shaking his head in disbelief "How?"
"Magic." she shrugged her shoulders ``I never learned why or how, just how to do it. Don't think too much about it."
The scientist was scrambling to touch the needle "This doesn't make sense at all."
"But it still works."
"It shouldn't!"
"But it does."
The scientist was still trying to figure it out.
"You saw me do other things before. Why are you so freaked out now?"
"I never understood it before either but this? This is… this is so much more nonsensical than you just freezing us in place or blasting us back. This. Doesn't. Make. Sense!"
"It still works though."
"But how?"
"no clue. Do you think I got taught spell theory and how it works? No, I was just told to do it and I did it. It's as easy as that."
"This is the farthest from easy ever! This doesn't make sense, Skull!"
"I told you you don't have to understand. Your flame needs to."
The hitman raised his eyes "I… you really expect me to sit here and stare at a match?"
"You can push your flames into it if you want. I don't care. I got more matches ready for whenever you destroy one."
The hitman just shook his head, eyes on the match and the clear doubt in his eyes.
Leilani could do nothing but sigh. She had known this wouldn't be easy "Fon? You're up to it?"
The martial artist nodded.
She picked up the whole box and sat it in front of him, quickly opening the cover and catching the first object that already darted out before she slammed the lid back on.
She let go of the pen which raised a bit higher before it stayed hovering on the spot, skyflakes leaking from it.
The Chinese just raised an eyebrow at it.
"You're gonna learn the most basic thing. Finite. Which cancels out other spells. I already told you you could undo the lettering from Reborns mug, right? It's the same thing. You want to end the charm and undo the levitation charm on it."
"With storm flames?"
"Yes, it's why the whole box is full of them. I am probably correct with the assumption you're gonna destroy quite a few. Just give me a heads up if you destroyed every last one of them."
"Arguing with you about the nonsense of it won't bring me further, right?"
"Oh come on. I was certain you would have more spirit than Reborn."
The martial artist chuckled "Very well."
"Verde? You up."
The scientist sighed, "Just get this over with."
"Come on. It's gonna be fine."
"Spending time on something that has no scientific value, logic or reason for working?"
"Just imagine how much your research can go further if you manage it."
He still looked unimpressed at her.
"What you're gonna do is a protego. It's a shield that stops flames and physical things from passing. The corner of every good defence. Let me demonstrate."
The shield almost immediately slammed into place in front of her, not that it was visible. "Try touching it."
"Try touching air?"
"Just do it. Just focus on it, if you look close enough you can see it… or at least feel the flame presence."
His eyebrows rose up as he actually followed and his hands were stopped midair "How…"
"Let your flames work it out. You just want them to recreate it. This is the most important skill for defence, the most basic. If you think you achieved something we can start throwing stuff at it."
Leilani focused her attention on the female soldier "lal… you actually will have to work on your mindset so that you understand that your flames are the same thing. They are one just with different strengths and purposes but… still the same thing. But you and Nello are going to work together on the sentient aspect."
Her rain who had watched quietly and while he couldn't stop his doubt at the insanity of it… well he had seen Skull perform her tricks more than anyone else. He wasn't sure how to do it either but… he was certain it would work. He trusted his sky.
Leilani smiled at the resolve in his eyes "You are gonna practise the full body bind. The goal is to temporarily paralyse the opponent, making their limbs snap together while still keeping all their senses going. It's very simple but… I still want you to be careful."
She pulled off the couch pillows to set them on the floor "Just in case for when you fall and… well I kinda want to perform it on both of you so that you understand it better. Is that alright?"
Colonnello had already stood up, placing him in front of the pillow "Hit me."
She smiled "Alright, brace yourself." The blue spell struck out and at once Colonnello fell backwards."
"Fon? Look up. The counterspell is actually the same spell you're attempting. I told you it has many uses." she waited until the martial artist had focused on her again before she undid the body bind.
Colonnelo sat up, his eyes narrowed in concentration.
Lal seemed a bit more hesitant but even she let herself get hit by the spell.
Leilani nodded at her "Okay you two, You are gonna attempt to bind each other. Take turns or something."
Colonnello saluted "Roger."
Leilani snickered before letting herself fall on the seat next to Viper "So…. Viper."
"Mou. What do you want me to do?"
"That's the issue. You actually are able to do most of it. Divination is well… I'm shit at it and it won't help with your flames and mindarts? I don't even want to attempt that. I have never learned it and you actually need a teacher for it. it's pretty dangerous if you make a mistake."
"So… you have no clue?"
"I do but… you're… well your job is to change your mindset."
"My mindset?"
"Yes, all mist users I know just take illusions for granted and real illusions are this big deal but… well it's not. Even then real illusions are still illusions but it's not how it's supposed to be. I want you to conjure something, anything. A stone for example. The issue is… you have to make it real. not an illusion but the actual object. Mist flames aren't illusion.
You have to conjure something that is actually real. I mean… goddamn viper you can apparate better than me. You make no noise and you use so many aspects already. You even use the basics of mind magic. You were able to project what I had in my mind in your illusions.
You got it… the only thing that is hindering you is this limitation of you taking it as illusions and everything going over it is this incredible feat or even unachievable. I know this actually is quite harder than what the rest does but… I just got nothing else to teach you."
The miser leaned back "So… I actually can use my flames?"
"Aside from the fact that you hinder yourself with illusions? Yeah, get rid of it and conjure real stuff."
Leilani opened her palm to conjure a tulip, placing it in front of the miser "Just like this. It's not an illusion, nor a real illusion. It exists and it's shut there and it will wither and die like every other flower. There is no difference to a normal flower besides the matter in which it was created. Think you can get behind that?"
The miser cleared their throat "I have to try, don't I?"
Leilani smiled at them "Exactly! You can do it. I'm certain."
