Anyway do enjoy this chapter.
Awkward Meet-Up
Kevin never thought this day has come. Summer has been a long drag since the moment he's got the acceptance letter, that he was celebrating with his friends, when Nazz broke up with him. He still can't forget that moment and just remembering it tears him up inside. Now it's Sept 2nd at 7am and his parents are driving him to the airport. He's not going to admit it but he's nervous, scared even about the whole thing. The plane ride all alone, meeting his cousin he hadn't heard from since they were kids and being in one of the top ten universities in a big city. Now that he's thinking about it, it's all too surreal that he's feeling butterflies in his stomach. As they managed to get to the airport, he had a tearful goodbye with his parents, feeling the tight hug grip from his mother and he managed to get through the security smoothly which is daunting in itself especially having all the luggage checked. Once he got to the shopping area, all he can think about is getting some coffee to get rid of the tiredness so early in the morning and is relieved to see a Starducks. He walks up to the end of the queue to see the delectable looking cakes taunting him when he heard a familiar voice from the other end,
"Salutations fine gentleman, may I have a regular pumpkin latte and a breakfast wrap please?" He turns to see Edd at the front of a queue, of all the rotton luck.
"Alright sir, if you would like to take a seat, we can bing the food to you." the young, handsome male cashier said with a winning smile.
"Thank you very much." he said as he went to sit at the last table of the cafe and took out a gigantic textbook called Gray's Anatomy.
"Oh great. I was going to sit there." he muttered to himself, continuing to glare at Edd who doesn't seem to notice him. He finally got to the front of the queue to order his coffee and then try to sneak past Edd while he's still being enthralled by the book. As Edd's food and coffee came, he put his book down and ready to take a bite in his breakfast, but then he saw a glimpse of a familiar face under a red cap.
"Kevin? Is that you?" Kevin stops in his track and slowly turn towards Edd who's waving at kim. With a sigh he walks towards the nerd and sit opposite to him.
"Hey Double Dweeb, what the hell are you doing here?" Edd isn't fazed by the insult and happily answer his question,
"Well today's the day where I'll be starting my adventure to New York City. Going to museums, libraries, experiencing the hustle and bustle of a city life-" he got interrupted when Kevin spit coffee all over his face.
"Wait, did you say New York City?" Edd looks disgusted and immediately grabs a wet wipe from his bag to wipe his face clean.
"Well, before I was rudely interrupted but yes Kevin. I'm going there for University." Kevin groans with fustration.
"Which University?" Edd's confused by Kevin's frustration.
"Colmbia University where they have afantastic medicine program and-" Kevin interrupts again by hitting the table with his fist.
"Why can't you dorks just leave me the fuck alone!?" Edd's not only confused but is shocked by the outburst.
"Excuse me?"
"I was hoping to never see you again. You dorks drive me crazy! And this was my one chance to live my life without you dorks! And now you're here." Edd is embarrassed by being shouted in public like this and even slightly peeved.
"Well, I'm sorry I got accepted into the same University as you. Just be lucky it's big enough where we more likey to not bump into each other." Edd said which Kevin doesn't give a shit about.
"I'm just lucky enough that I'm with the least annoying one." Edd just rolls his eyes,
"Gee, thanks." he said sarcastically. Then, his eyes grow wide as he sees someone coming up behind Kevin.
"What's wrong with you dork? Having a stroke?"
"Hiya boys!" Kevin turns around to see a girl with long, blonde hair in a plait, the recognizable buck teeth and a white dress decorated by pink flowers and decides to sit between Edd and Kevin.
"Oh. Well hello May. Um….surprised to see you here." Edd nervously said, not confortable having a Kanker near by. Kevin just face palms.
"Oh god. What are you doing here?" Kevin asks grumpily.
"Chill grumpy pants. I'm here going to New York for University." May said excitedly when Edd and Kevin just look at each other.
"Which University?" they said in unison.
"Columbia. Don't believe me, I have the acceptance letter to prove it." the boys just groaned.
"Greeeaat, so I have to deal with you too." Kevin exasperated as May gave him an annoyed look.
"Rude. You know a congratulations would've been nice. Right Double D?" May gives him an hopeful look.
"Well, congratulation I guess but, you're not going to bother me like back home are you?" May just laughs.
"Hahahaha, no now that my sisters are not with me. The only thing I want to focus on is being in theatre." Kevin interrupts their conversation,
"Well that's nice. Since you two want to focus on your dorky majors, you can stay away from me." Edd is about to say something when a jingle plays from the intercom,
"Ladies and gentlemen, the plane to New York City will leave in one hour. Please make your way to Gate 2 to get checked in. Have a pleasant journey." Kevin gets up from the chair,
"Right, I just want to make this absolutely clear. Things at Uni will be exactly the same as Peach Creek." points at Edd, "You're still a dork that's just going to annoy everyone with your existance, and you," points t May, "will always be an ugly, crazy chick that everyone will avoid, while I," points at himself, "am still a stud that'll get all the chicks and nothing is going to change that." He walks away laughing whie Edd and May looks at him with annoyed expressions. May follows suit and Edd gulps down his coffee when he notices a piece of paper under his cup that reads,
'Denny – 07323444 – Call Me ;)'
He looks up to the handsome cashier from before winking at him. Edd's face goes bright red and gave him a weak smile as he stuff the paper under his hat and ran out the door.
Edd slowly goes down the plane with his shoulder bag, constantly looking at his boarding pass so he knows where to sit. Finally, he found his, right next to someone he's hoping wouldn't see again. Kevin who's giving Edd an annoyed look.
"Really?" Edd said exasperated as he looks over to see May sitting between May and the window. Edd sits down next to Kevin, feeling the tension within the row.
"Looks lke we can't stay away from each other huh." Edd laughs nervously, hoping to lighten the mood but Kevin just put his headphones on to block any sounds around him, while the hostess demonstrates the safety procedures. He might as well take out Gray's Anatomy and continue reading the wonders of medicine and surgery. It has been an hour and May's feels bored just looking out the window. She sighs as she turns to see Kevin fallen asleep as Edd's still reading his huge textbook.
"Hey Double D." Edd doesn't look up but answers anyway.
"Yes?"
"How long do we have left?" Edd looks at his watch.
"An hour." and went back to his book. May sighs in boredom.
"Double D." Now it's Edd's turn to sigh but in annoyance.
"Yes May?"
"Be honest with me. Did you really like us? Me and my sisters?" Edd feels like he's never going to read the book until he answers the question, so he puts his book down and turn towards her.
"The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?" May just nods her head, kind of fearing what's he's going to say.
"Well, to put it nicely May, we find your affections to be abhorent. We find you traumatizing and quite frankly disgusting and we feel nothing but intense fear everytime we see you and your sisters and the same goes for everyone else." May feels disheartened and bows her head, trying to hide the tears.
"I'm sorry May but, I thought you should know, in case you weren't aware."
"No, it's fine Double D." she said with a strain smile then she gets up.
"Excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom." Edd pulls his legs back to let her past, wondering if telling her the harsh truth was the right thing to do. His thoughts got interrupted when he feels the pressure on his shoulder. He turns to see Kevin, sleeping on his shoulder. Edd doesn't know what to do in this situation but what he does know that if he tries to move him he would wake up and probably get beat up for waking him, but weirdly he doesn't mind the feeling, he's actually kind of warm but it's awkward trying not to make any sudden movements. He sneakly takes a look at Kevin sleeping and is surprised to see how peaceful he is. Not having an angry look on his face like he always have everytime he looks at him. He can't help but think he looks very handsome but the very thought shock Edd.
'Oh dear lord! Did I just think that!?' He's wracking his brain when he hears stirring from Kevin. He slowly look over to see Kevin opening his eyes. Kevin looks confused when he looks up to see Edd, noticing what he's leaning on.
"Whoa!" he jumps up going red in the face, trying to keep the blushing and the heat under control. He gives Edd a sly look while Edd avoids any eye contact with specks of red dusting over his cheeks. Kevin clears his throat.
"Dork, that….whatever that was...i..it didn't happen? Do you understand?" Kevin trying to say it in a threatening tone but just ends up sounding more desperate.
"What didn't happen?" Edd said non-chalantly as he pretends to be interested in the pamphlets in front of him. Kevin nods in understanding, trying to avoid looking at Edd while he slick his hair back. May came back where Edd pulls his legs back to let her past. He can't help but noticed a tint of redness in her eyes. He can't help but feel like what he said has something to do with it but he didn't say anything as what just happened is still fresh in his mind. May sat down on her seat when she noticed the tension in the air. She looks at Kevin and Edd and see they're trying to avoide each other, more than usual.
"Did I miss anything?"
"No!" the boys said in unison. All May can do is just leave things be and go back to looking at the window. She can the Statue of Liberty in the distance indicating they are near by. As the three of them went quiet they know this is going to be one hell of a year.
