[Open. Int. The Barn]
(Ash is seen fast asleep on the back of a truck in the barn, snoring loudly. A shadowy figure then approaches him, and Ash snores a final time before waking up.)
MD: *excitedly, without his mask on* Ash!
Ash: *gasps* MD! Is it morning already?
MD: *grins* It's midnight! Happy birthday, Ash!
Ash: *grabs his cheeks, then sits up and grabs MD's cheeks* Oh man! Are you finally gonna tell me that you're a fusion of the Gems Meta Knight and King Dedede like you promised?
MD: You already know about all that, Ash.
Ash: *sighs* It's true. *lets go of MD and falls back into bed*
MD: But what you don't know is how Meta and Dedede first met.
Ash: *sits back up and grabs MD's cheeks again, blushing with stars in his eyes* O-M-G! I don't!
(MD blushes and giggles, as he begins retelling his story of how Meta Knight and King Dedede first met, cuing a flashback.)
[Trans. Ext. Cloud Arena]
MD (Narrator): The Earth, 5,750 years ago; it was a promising site of a new Gem colony, but progress was being thwarted by a small, persistent group of rebels. A team of diplomatic Gems were sent from Homeworld to investigate. Among those Gems was King Dedede, a rare aristocratic Homeworld Gem, with the power to see into the future. Assigned to him were three Meta-Knights, common soldiers, with a mission to protect him.
Meta-Knight 1: *walks up to Meta-Knight 2: Hey! Can't wait for those rebels to get here!
Meta-Knight 2 Haha, yeah! When I see those rebels, I'm gonna punch them right in their faces!
Meta-Knight 1: What are you sayin'? I'm gonna punch them all over their bodies, and then it'll be over.
Meta-Knight 2: What if, I just punch you!
(He punched Meta-Knight 1 playfully in the back of his shoulder, sticking his tongue out, and Meta-Knight 1 yelped out in pain.)
Meta Knight: Oh, come on. We'll punch 'em together when we fuse. That's why they sent, uh, three of us?
Ruby Guard 1: Three this!
(Meta-Knight 1 attempted to punch Meta Knight, but Meta Knight blocked the attack. Meta Knight was knocked backwards, causing his to collide into King Dedede. Onlooking Gems gasped in shock as Meta Knight quickly stepped away from King Dedede.)
Meta Knight: Oh, I, um, I'm so sorry, I, let me, uh…
King Dedede: I'm fine.
Meta Knight: What?
King Dedede: It's okay. It was bound to happen.
Meta Knight: I, uh... okay.
King Dedede: Now please wait here. I must attend to my duties.
Meta Knight: Right.
Meta-Knight 1: Mmm.
Meta-Knight 2: Yes.
(The three Meta-Knights stood in attention as King Dedede walked up to Palutena's Palanquin, where Kelpy G was seen standing next to Palutena's throne.)
MD (Narrator): King Dedede had been called to Earth by Palutena, specifically to share his vision of the future.
King Dedede: *enters the palanquin* My diamond, I've arrived.
MD (Narrator): Palutena spoke, "Dedede, tell me what will happen here."
King Dedede: I foresee the rebels attacking the Cloud Arena. Before they are cornered, they will destroy the physical forms of seven gems, including two of my Meta-Knights, and myself. Immediately after my form is destroyed, the rebels will be captured. The rebellion ends here.
MD (Narrator): "Thank you, Dedede." Palutena said, relieved. "That's all I needed to know."
King Dedede: I look forward to speaking with you again once I reform back on Homeworld.
(King Dedede gave a curtsy to Palutena before returning to his Meta-Knights, standing next to Meta Knight.)
MD (Narrator): Dedede knew he would be a casualty, but it did not faze him. He saw his whole life laid out before him, and he had already accepted all of it.
King Dedede: *speaks to Meta Knight* What a beautiful place to build a colony. I wish I could have seen more of this planet.
Meta Knight: Uh... there's still time.
King Dedede: That is a nice thought, but... no.
Delia: *off-screen* Palutena, leave this planet! This colony will not be completed!
Meta-Knight 2: It's the rebels!
(Various Gems muttered among themselves, one of them shouted, "Who are you!? Show yourselves!" Squidward, wielding two swords, appeared standing on a pillar as Delia floated in from above.)
Delia: We...
Delia Squidward: ... are the Crystal Gems!
(The Palanquin carrying Palutena and Kelpy G closed, sprouted mechanical legs and walks off.)
MD (Narrator): The attack was right on schedule.
(Squidward used his swords to defeat four Gems, before the Meta-Knights intervened and fused into a much bigger Meta-Knight. The Meta-Knights fusion charged after Delia, but she counter-attacked, instantly defusing the Meta-Knight fusion. Squidward then instantly jumped in and destroyed the forms of the two other Meta-Knights, leaving just Meta Knight on the ground. Squidward then prepared to strike King Dedede.)
King Dedede: Thank you, Meta. You did your best.
MD (Narrator): Meta suddenly realized what Dedede meant. He had known that Meta would fail. Dedede had accepted it. But Meta... Meta could not.
Meta Knight: NO!!
(Meta Knight got up and charged at King Dedede, pushing him out of the way of Squidward's attack. As the two of them spun in the air, they accidentally fuse into MD for the first time.)
Past MD: Wha... *examines his newly formed body, and the two gems on his palms* What... !?
(Onlooking Gems gasped, horrified, as they muttered among themselves.)
Past MD: What...what is this?
(Squidward looked on in, amazed, but shook it off and prepared to strike again, before being stopped by Delia.)
Delia: Wait! This is... hm? (The other Gems noticed her and began to approach, ignoring MD.) ... Let's go.
Squidward: Uh... bye!
(Squidward And Delia then leapt away.)
Past MD: Is this... ?
(Past MD defused back into Meta Knight and King Dedede, and the onlooking Gems turned their attention back to the pair.)
MD (Narrator): The furious crowd closed in around Meta and Dedede. They'd never seen fusion of two different types of Gems.
Various Gems (MD): "Unbelievable!" "Disgusting!" "This is unheard of!"
MD (Narrator) Palutena's voice cut through the crowd. "The rebels have fled. Dedede, this was not the scenario you described!"
King Dedede: This is... not what I saw! I don't know what happened, I...
Meta Knight: No! It was me!
MD (Narrator): "Clearly." Said Palutena. "How dare you fuse with a member of my court?"
Meta Knight: Forgive me, I... !
MD (Narrator): "You will be broken for this!"
(The angry Gems began to close in on Meta Knight and King Dedede, but King Dedede grabbed Meta Knight's hand and dashed off with him.)
Meta Knight: WAAAIT!! What are you dooiing!? NO!!
(King Dedede jumped off the Cloud Arena, and the two disappeared into the clouds.)
[Trans. Somewhere on Earth]
(King Dedede gently floated Meta Knight down somewhere at the base of a mountain and dropped him into the ground. It then began to rain heavily.)
Meta Knight: Ugh, why'd you do that!? I have to get you back up there!
King Dedede: They were gonna break you!
Meta Knight: Who cares!? There's tons of me!
(Meta Knight looked up at the rain, and the area around the mountain. He then groaned in panic.)
Meta Knight: Gahh! What do we do now!?
MD (Narrator): King Dedede had known every moment of his life. How it would happen, and when. But because of Meta Knight's impulsive gesture, he suddenly jumped the track of fate, and everything from that instant on was wrong, and new. He couldn't see, he couldn't move. He was... frozen.
(Ice began forming around King Dedede's feet, freezing him onto the spot.)
Meta Knight: Ah! We have to get you... out of here!
(Meta Knight grabbed King Dedede from behind and pulled him out of the ice. He then carries King Dedede bridal style.)
Meta Knight: Come on.
(Meta Knight carried King Dedede away from the mountains and into a nearby cave. Meta Knight set him down inside and examined the surroundings.)
Meta Knight: Alright, this should be good for now.
(King Dedede sat down and pushed aside his bang, uncovering his eyes.)
King Dedede: Thank you...
(Meta Knight looked at him, stunned and speechless. Fire then formed around his feet, causing him to step back in shock. A bonfire was made from the flames and King Dedede began warming himself. Meta Knight, however, kept pacing around in panic.)
Meta Knight: What kind of Meta-Knight am I supposed to be? Look at this! It's my fault you're stranded here. How am I gonna save you?
King Dedede: You already did.
Meta Knight: What!?
King Dedede: You already saved me.
(Meta Knight sniffled and sat down next to the bonfire, still perturbed. The two remained silent for a moment, thinking about the accidental fusion they performed earlier. Meta Knight stared at his gem, and then at King Dedede's gem.)
King Dedede: I... I've seen gems fuse before, but I had no idea that's what it felt like. I always thought... I never realized that fusion... that'd you'd disappear like that.
Meta Knight: It's never like that! Whenever I've fused, it's always just been me, but bigger, I... I've never had four eyes before.
King Dedede: I've never had more than two! It was nice.
Meta Knight: *blushes* Ha... yeah...
(Eventually, the rain stopped, and Meta Knight and King Dedede stepped out of the cave. They climbed over a hill and witnessed a sunset in the horizons. They both began to sing "Something Entirely New" as they explore Earth together.)
Meta Knight King Dedede: Where did we go? What did we do? / I think we made something, entirely new. / And it wasn't quite me, and it wasn't quite you. / I think it was someone, entirely new.
(King Dedede walked through a forest when a butterfly landed on his hand. Meta Knight came over to observe it, but it flew away and got eaten by a frog. Meta Knight then picked up the frog and showed it to an excited King Dedede.)
Meta Knight: Oh... Um... / Well I just can't stop thinking
King Dedede: So... Um... / Did you say I was different?
Meta Knight: And you hadn't before?
King Dedede: Of course not! / When would I have ever?
(Night fell, Meta Knight and King Dedede lay in the grass to gaze at the moon, while talking about the accidental fusion.)
Meta Knight: I'm so sorry.
King Dedede: No, no, don't be.
Meta Knight: And now you're here forever!
King Dedede: What about you?
Meta Knight: What about me?
King Dedede: Well you're here too. / We're here together.
(King Dedede placed a reassuring hand on Meta Knight's hand and then led him into a forest. He began humming his song, to which Meta Knight then joined in too, forming a reprise of "Stronger Than You" and "Strong in the Real Way. They danced together in the forest, and eventually fused together back into MD. Past MD began stumbling around, unfamiliar to his body yet.)
MD (Narrator): I was back; I was someone and I didn't know who. But I felt I was getting the hang of my strange new form. ...And then I fell.
(Past MD tripped and rolled down a hill.)
Past MD: ... Ouch.
(Suddenly, a sword was pointed at Past MD's face, causing him to flinch and recoil.)
Past MD: Ah! Don't hurt him! Don't hurt... me?
(The sword bearer then revealed to be Squidward.)
Squidward: It's you! The fusion...
Past MD: We didn't mean to fuse! Well... well, we did this time. We'll unfuse! We, we'll...
(Delia approached from behind Squidward.)
Delia: No, no, please... I'm glad to see you again.
MD (Narrator): And there they were: Delia, the leader of the rebellion, and her terrifying renegade Squidward.
Past MD: I don't upset you?
Delia: Who cares about how I feel? How you feel is bound to be much more interesting.
Past MD: How I feel? I feel... uh, lost... and scared... and happy. W-why am I so sure that I'd rather be this than everything I was supposed to be, and that I'd rather do this than anything I was supposed to do?
Delia: *laughing* Welcome to Earth!
Past MD: C-can you tell me!? How was Meta Knight able to alter fate? Or, why was King Dedede willing to give up everything? W-what am I!?
Delia: No more questions. Don't ever question this. *holds MD's hands* You already are the answer.
[Trans. Int. The Barn]
(The flashback ends as MD concludes his tale.)
Ash: So... ? What was it?
(MD raises an eyebrow.)
Ash: The answer.
MD: *whispers* Love.
Ash: Wow... I knew it.
MD: So did I.
(The star iris closes on MD, popping with hearts instead of the usual stars, and ending the episode.)
