Robert didn't know what he expected his reaction would be seeing his son. He thought he would yell, scream, curse, heck even a small part of him thought he'd be proud. But seeing Jon just standing before him unnerved him to his core. After that, he just walked off not a word left his lips as he turned and left Jon and Daenerys standing there.

Robert entered his tent shortly after and walked over to the small table holding a pitcher of wine and a few cups. Robert picked up the pitcher in his meaty fingers without hesitating and started to lift it directly to his lips. Drinking down the wine as some if not most poured down his beard.

"So this is your reaction to seeing your son win his first tournament?"

Robert turned his head, nearly spilling the wine as he saw his wife standing in the tent opening. "You did this!" he replied in an accusing tone.

"And what did I do exactly?" Cersei asked with an arched brow.

"You know exactly what you did!" Robert said wiping the wine off his lips before slamming the wine pitcher on the table almost shattering it. "I told you that I will not have my son marry that Targaryen girl... and what do you do? You make the boy fight in the tourney to force my hand and humiliate me!"

"The only one humiliating you is yourself," Cersei rolled her eyes as she took a seat. She rather enjoyed herself watching Robert seeth. "And as I told you, Jon wanted to marry her. I had no part in his decision."

"Bull," Robert groaned as he narrowed his eyes at Cersei. He then grabbed the pitcher of wine back to his lips drinking down another large gulp. In truth, Robert knew of Jon's feelings for Daenerys. He knew it for a while. But the way Jon looked at Daenerys, the way they both glanced at it each other. It reminded him so much of Lyanna, his Lyanna. The way she looked at Rhaegar. The way they both glanced at each other, was uncanny. Then the image of Daenerys handing Jon that crown of flowers just made his chest squeeze even more. Robert took another gulp of wine to get the images out of his mind.

"So what is your plan then? You planning to stand in your son's way?" Cersei questioned as she watched Robert drink the pitcher till it was nearly bone dry. Robert didn't immediately answer her as he put the pitcher down. Cersei then stood and circled around him to meet his face. "I'm returning to the keep to congratulate my son and my daughter. You can either, sulk in here like a coward, or you can go congratulate your children as well," Cersei said as she turned to leave.

Back at the Red Keep, at the feast, many lords had begun to congratulate Jon on his victory. Plus, possible and unofficial engagement to Daenerys. Jon politely thanked them gratefully, but all he wanted to do was find some time alone. Daenerys's hand clutched in his as they went hand in hand together through the halls. Both smiles adorn on their faces as Jon finally brought Daenerys to his bed chamber. A private place for them to speak freely.

Shutting the door behind them after entering, Jon smiled as he turned to face his future betrothed. "Dany I-," suddenly, Jon felt a slap across his face. His skin stinging from the smack. With wide eyes, Jon looked to Daenerys sporting a furious scowl and arms crossed over her chest. "How could you have been so stupid!" she scolds as she smacks him again.

"What did I do?!" Jon asked, trying his best to shield his face from another strike.

"Why would you endanger your life like that? You could have been killed!" Daenerys smacked at him again.

"Dany..."

"Don't Dany me!" Daenerys said crossing her arms in front of her chest.

Jon sighed seeing her narrow gaze as he stepped closer to her. "Dany... I couldn't lose you," he said softly as he met her hard gaze. "I had to do something. I couldn't just watch as some lord or knight took you away from me," Jon said as he took one of her wrists gently pulling it free from around her chest and bringing her hand to his lips. "And I won't apologize for what I did. I would do it again for you in a heartbeat... But I am sorry that I scared you."

"I wasn't scared," She argued but felt her hard gaze soften under his touch. Daenerys then finally let out a defeated sigh. "Next time. Tell me before you do something so heroically... romantically stupid," she said softly.

"You thought it was romantic?" Jon asked with a small smirk which quickly made her smack him again.

"Don't be so smug. I'm still mad at you," Daenerys said before giving him a small smile. Soon their situation began to sink in making her face red as she felt flustered and almost excited. "So we are engaged?" she asked a bit in disbelief.

"Just got to wait for father to make it official," Jon said as he reached and cupped her cheek in his hand. "He will," he tried to reassure her as he felt the sudden distress in her eyes.

"You know nothing Jon... he will fight this," she said knowingly. Even though she did love Robert like a father she knew his stubbornness always got in the way of sense. "I know it."

"I'll make him see reason, I promise," Jon said as he held her for a moment longer staring into each other's eyes. Jon soon felt Daenerys leaning up to capture his lips, kissing him gently. He melted at the soft touch as she took his breath away. The little moments they shared like this always made everything else seem less important. And as much as Jon wanted to remain like this, Daenerys pulled away. "Jon, sometimes your hopefulness... can be so annoying," Daenerys smirked before kissing him again biting on his bottom lip.

As their kiss became more passionate the door to the chamber opened without warning. "Hello looks like the love birds are already at it. And without even the ringing of wedding bells," Jamie smirked as he walked into the room causing the two blushing teens to pull apart. Jon unconsciously wiped his mouth as if doing so would hide the evidence. While Daenerys still blushing gave a proud smirk.

"Uncle Jamie. Didn't anyone tell you it's rude to walk into a room without knocking?" Jon asked as he turned to the knight with golden hair.

"Yes, but where is the fun in that?" Jamie chuckled as he came over to the two and took Jon's arm before pulling him into a tight embrace. "Congratulation Jon you did very well today. Especially since that was your first tourney and all," Jamie smiled as he ruffled his dark black locks.

"Thank you, Uncle," Jon said with a proud smile.

Jamie then turned to Daenerys still smiling proudly. "You did tell him what an idiot he was though, right?" he asked her making Daenerys smirk even more. "I did," she said trying and failing to hold back a chuckle.

"Because yes that was extremely stupid. Brave, but stupid," Jamie said as he pulls away and gives the prince another ruffle of his dark locks.

"Yes yes it was stupid I get it," Jon rolls his eyes as the pair continue to give him a hard time about it. "Now Uncle Jamie are you here for a reason or just here to make fun of me?" Jon asked wanting to get this over with and be back alone with his betrothed.

Jamie twisted his lips a bit uncomfortably before nodding. "Your father wishes to speak with you... in his chambers alone," Jamie answered as Jon felt a nervous shiver comes over him.

"Oh okay, guess I'll go see him then," Jon said feeling a bit less confident than before.

"You will make him see reason correct?" Daenerys asked using his own words against him.

"Of course," Jon said forcing a bit of a smile before leaning over and kissing her cheek. "I'll be back Dany," he whispered to her before pulling away and making his way to the door. Jamie followed after him. "Princess," Jamie said bowing his head and bidding farewell as he and Jon left to head to Robert's chambers.

Once they reached the King's chamber Jamie stood to the side of the open door. "Good luck," Jamie said softly allowing Jon to step in and closed the door behind him. Jon nodded his head bracing himself for what was to come. When Jon stepped further in he saw his father seated at his desk. Robert didn't say anything, he didn't greet Jon as he entered, and he didn't even acknowledge his son's presence.

"Hello father," Jon said breaking the silence.

Robert still said nothing as he fiddled with a wine glass in front of him. He then picked up the pitcher and poured wine into an empty cup, before pushing it in front of an empty seat. Taking this as a sign Jon took a seat in front of the cup of wine as Robert filled his own glass once more. "Fathers are supposed to congratulate their sons when they are engaged aren't they?" he asked swishing the wine around in the glass.

"I believe so," Jon said a bit warily as he picked up his own glass.

Robert nodded at Jon as he lifted his cup before bringing the red liquid to his lips and drinking it down. Jon followed along drinking the offered wine. He gagged a bit as the wine was much stronger and sourer than what he was used to, but still stomached it.

After both men drank their cups nearly dry, they both sat there quietly for a brief moment. Robert swirled what little wine was left in his cup watching the red liquid swishing about. "You remind me so much of your mother," Robert started still looking down at his glass. "She was strong-headed and stubborn... like me in some ways," Robert admits as he begins to reminisce. "She was also beautiful too... people didn't know it but during our engagement, we usually wrote letters to one another. But on a few occasions, I did meet her when visiting Winterfell."

Jon was surprised as his father rarely if ever talked about his mother. The only times he's heard anything about her is from his Uncle Ned when he comes to visit. Jon listened intently as Robert went on. "It is quite ironic really. Just like you, your mother also dressed as a mystery knight and fought in the tourney. Knight of the Laughing Tree they called her. She unhorsed three knights. The king thought the Knight of the Laughing Tree was making a fool of him so he sent all his knights even his son to hunt the knight down," he said with a laugh. "But she gave them all the slip."

"I heard some things about the Knight of the Laughing Tree, but how do you know it was mother?" Jon questioned curiously.

"She told me," Robert said as he pours himself some more wine even filling Jon's cup without argument. "A few months after the Harrenhal tourney Lyanna came to Storm's End. I showed her the place that would be her home. Showed her the realm we would rule. And we got drinking," he said gulping down his wine. "She bragged about how she was the mystery knight and how as she was being chased she ditched her shield in a tree, as she made a clean getaway," Robert said openly laughing now. "She made all those knights and the prince hunting her all look like fools."

Jon let a small smile rise to his lips hearing his father actually sound happy reminiscing. "After drinking all night, she almost drank me under the table... We even spent the night together," Robert said with a cheeky grin. But that grin on his face soon soured. "After that, she left... heading back home to Winterfell... it only a week or so later that I hear she was taken on the road," he said his voice now filled with bitterness and rage. "Rheagar stole her like a bandit in the dark."

Jon felt the tension rising in his tone as Robert's mood changed so suddenly. "Why are you telling me all this father?" Jon asked as he set down his wine cup not drinking it.

"Because... I suppose if I were you. I wouldn't have accepted someone taking away my betrothed either," Robert said bitterly. "Not some random knight, not a prince, or even a king would stop me."

"So you will accept my betrothal? You will accept Daenerys to be my wife?" Jon asked as he straightened himself in his seat.

"I don't like it. I don't think I can accept it or even approve of it... but I won't stop you from marrying her," Robert said his tone still as bitter as before. "Not that I could stop you if you are anything like me."

"Thank you father," Jon said relieved and willing to accept that this was the best Robert could do.

Robert then nodded as he rose from his seat standing and walking around the table to Jon's side. Jon too rose to his feet as Robert approached and felt his father wrap his arms around him. Jon blinked a bit surprised as he returned the hug. He did his best not to gag from the stench of his father's breath, patting his back as they hugged. "Congratulations son."

"Thank you," Jon said as Robert gave him another tight squeeze before releasing him. "You and Daenerys will wed in two months' time. Plenty of time to gather the lords of the realm for the wedding," Robert said giving Jon another pat on his shoulder before moving back to his desk.

Jon was a bit taken aback by his tone but wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. "That will be fine... I will inform Dany," Jon said biting his lip as he goes to turn and leave. "Ah... goodnight father," Jon said as he walked out of the room before his father could change his mind.

"Goodnight Jon..." Robert turned his chair to face away from the door. He looked out the window as it darkened by the night sky. He took another sip of his wine as he pulled out from his tunic a small letter that was tucked away. He looked down at the parchment, the paper crumpled, and the words were faded and barely visible. He brought the paper to his lips kissing it gently. "You should have been here," he said looking down at Lyanna's name. Her last letter to him. His last connection to his beloved besides their son. "I love you always," he whispered as he remains in his chair drinking his wine as the night went on.
