A/N THE CHARACTERS MAY SEEM A LITTLE OOC IN THIS CHAPTER. BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT ALL THOSE HORRIBLE THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THE SERIES DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THIS STORY. SO THEIR PERSONALITIES ARE DIFFERENT.
There were only four days to get ready for the battle with the newborns, and it was essential to wake Peter so that he could help. So, Talia decided when she went to visit Peter that night; she would bite him and turn him into a Lycan. The Lycan venom would heal the remaining injuries Peter was suffering from; his body was now at the point that he could handle having the amount of venom that Talia would need to give Peter, not only to heal him but to get him caught up on everything that has happened over the years.
That was probably going to be the hardest part for Peter to grasp and realizing that he lost five years of his life due to the coma. Talia would probably have to send the rest of the pack ahead of her and Peter so that she could help him adjust to his new form. She was positive that her brother would adapt quickly, especially with the thought of seeing his mate and daughter again as an incentive.
Talia waited until visiting hours were over, and the nurse had done her last check on Peter for that evening. The nurse wouldn't be back into the room until closer to the morning, so that gave Talia more than enough time to bite Peter and have the venom do its work. As soon as the nurse left the room, Talia snuck in. Peter was no longer on a ventilator but was placed on oxygen instead; this showed that his condition was improving.
Talia walked over to the bed and smiled down at her brother, "It's time for you to wake up, Peter. We need your help."
Talia's eyes turned a misty blue, and her teeth elongated. She bent down and bit Peter hard in the junction of his neck and shoulder. Peter's eyes popped open, and he gasped. Talia held Peter down as her jaws clamped down onto Peter's shoulder, and she pumped more venom into his system.
Peter tried in vain to pull Talia off of him, but he was too weak. The pain seared through his body from the bite and the venom spreading. Peter's back arched and his mouth opened in a silent scream as his body transformed from a human to a werewolf to an eight-foot-tall Lycan. While this was going, Peter's mind was being bombarded with memories that were not his own. He could see what had been happening for the past five years with his wife and daughter and the rest of his family.
Peter saw how Liz and Alexis sat in his room for weeks waiting for him to wake up and how eventually they were convinced to move away. He saw that every summer, Liz and Alexis would return to spend the summer with him, and he saw his daughter growing up before his eyes. Peter saw everything that he had missed.
The images were so overwhelming that Peter passed out again. Once he passed out, Talia released her grip on him and sat down to wait for him to wake up. She watched at the bite she had given Peter began to heal over, and the damage that was done to him from the fire also began to heal. While that was going on, Talia called her husband and told him that they should go on ahead to Forks without her and Peter that they would catch up. Seth agreed and informed his children what the plan was. So, they packed up and headed to Washington.
In Washington, Alexis and Ambrus decided to stay with the Cullens since her cousins were coming, and they would need the bedrooms, and the Cullens had more than enough room to accommodate Ambrus. Liz and Alexis were informed that the pack would be arriving in the morning and that after they rested, they could begin training for the battle.
In the meantime, Alexis and Emmett spent the night in his room in each other's arms, making love. It had been the first time since school ended that they had the chance to be together, and they needed time to reconnect and strengthen their bond. In the early hours of the morning, Alexis fell asleep in Emmett's arms.
Later on that morning, Alexis and Emmett got up, took a shower, and got ready for the day. Alexis put on a pair of yoga pants and an old t-shirt. Since she was going to transform, there was no point in wearing anything nice. She packed a backpack with extra clothes so that she could change after the training session was over. Alexis and Emmett made their way downstairs, where Esme was already making breakfast for Ambrus and Samantha.
"Good morning, everyone."
"Good morning, Lexie. Breakfast is almost ready."
"Thank you, Esme. Hey Sammy, I didn't know you were here?"
"Yeah, I spent the night with Rosie. I wanted to go with you guys and watch you train."
Lexie nods as she sits down in the chair next to Samantha and eats a strawberry that Esme has put out on the table. A little while later, Esme serves, Ambrus, Alexis, and Samantha breakfast. As they eat their breakfast, Alexis's phone rings. She looks at the caller ID and saw that it's her mother calling.
"Hello?"
"Good morning, Honey."
"Good morning, Mom."
"I called to let you know that the Hale pack arrived last night, but they're going to sleep in for a bit. Your Aunt Talia stayed behind. Your Uncle said that she'd be along in two days."
"Okay."
"Do you know what time Ambrus wanted to start training?"
Alexis explained to Ambrus what was going on, and he told her that noon would be good, "Ambrus said that noon would work, Mom."
"Okay, should we meet at the Cullen house?"
"Yeah, from there, we'll head to the training ground that Jasper has in mind," Alexis tells her mother.
"Oh, before I forget, Bella wanted to come along and watch," Liz tells her daughter.
"I don't think that's a problem."
"Okay, then we'll bring her along."
At 10:00, Bella came over to Liz's house to help make breakfast for everyone. She knocked on the front door, and Liz answered, "Bella, you're a little early, no one's up yet," Liz informed her niece.
"That's alright, Aunt Liz, I came over to help with breakfast. I know that Lycans can eat a lot, and I thought that you could use the help."
Liz laughed, "Yeah, you're right, I could. Shall we get started?"
"Sure."
Bella and Liz started making breakfast for the Hale pack. They made the usual, steak and eggs, french toast, a pile of bacon, some country potatoes, and coffee and orange juice. The smell of breakfast and coffee started wafting its way upstairs and began to wake up people; the first person to wake up was Derek. But it wasn't only the smell of breakfast that woke him; he also was able to pick up the scent of his mate.
Derek smirked as he thought of getting the chance to see his mate. He already knew that Bella found him attractive, even more than her than that idiotic vampire she had been dating at the time. So, now that she was out of school, Derek could properly pursue his mate. Derek got up, took a shower, and got dressed.
He decided to wear a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. If he was going to transform, he wasn't going to ruin his good clothes. After he was ready, Derek packed an extra set of clothes and then made his way downstairs, "Good morning, Aunt Liz," Derek said when he entered the kitchen. He turned to Bella and gave her a mischievous grin, "Good morning, Bella."
Bella swallowed thickly at seeing Derek dressed in sweats pants and a t-shirt, "Good morning, Derek. Would you like some breakfast?"
"Yeah, thanks,"
Derek was going to serve himself, but Bella stopped him, "Why don't you have a seat, Derek, I'll get your breakfast for you," Bella offered and blushed.
He thanked her again and sat down at the breakfast table. Bella brought him his breakfast and a mug of coffee. Derek smiled up at her and asked Bella to join him, "I don't know if I should, I should continue to help, Aunt Liz."
Liz smiled; she knew exactly what Derek was doing. Laura had told her when they arrived that Derek's mate was Bella. And so she knew that now Derek was going to turn on the charm as Peter had done with her. Liz thought it was funny that another Hale had fallen for a Swan, "Bella, why don't you take a break and have your breakfast with Derek?"
Bella flushed, "Um, okay," Bella said.
Bella wanted to kick herself for being so shy around Derek. She had to remind herself that he was only Lexie's cousin. But the minute she thought that Bella knew it wasn't right. There was more to Derek Hale than just being her cousin's cousin. Bella felt an irresistible pull towards Derek that she couldn't explain. That feeling wasn't the first time she felt it. Bella thought it the day that Lexie graduated from high school, and Bella met Derek, but Bella tried to ignore it because Bella was with Edward. But now that Bella was single, she decided not to ignore that feeling and see where it led.
Bella swallowed her nervousness about being around such a perfect specimen of a male, and start talking to Derek. Maybe flirt with him a bit. Much to her delight, Derek was very receptive to her advances. So, as they ate their breakfast, they would talk and flirt back and forth.
By the time everyone else came down for breakfast, Derek and Bella had become very friendly. Laura and Cora looked at each other and smirked at seeing Derek flirting with his mate. They were about to say something when their dad walked by, "Don't, leave him alone," The girls deflate and go into the kitchen and serve themselves breakfast.
Meanwhile, In the hospital in Beacon Hills, the doctors had come in to examine Peter. They were surprised to see that he had woken up in the middle of the night and that he had healed. The doctors didn't understand how he had recovered after five years in a coma, but they wanted to examine him further to determine how he had done it. But Peter refused and checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice.
Once he was out of the hospital, Peter met up with Talia back at their house, and she began to show him how to transform into a Lycan at will. It took him a few hours to get the hang of it, but since he was used to changing at will as a werewolf, turning into a Lycan wasn't that difficult. Once he got the hang of it, Talia helps Peter sort through his new memories. It was a little jumbled in his mind, and Peter needed a little help in putting things in order. That took the longest to do, but once Peter had sorted everything out and Talia explained what was going on in Forks, Peter was more than willing to help his wife's niece.
Back in Forks, the Hale pack and Bella made their way to the Cullen house, and from there, they would head to the training ground that Jasper had in mind. When they arrived at the Cullen house, Alexis came running out to greet her family. She jumped into Derek's arms and hugged him fiercely. Derek laughed and swung his little cousin around, "You're looking good, Pup."
"Thank you, Derek, so do you. Thank you so much for coming to help." Alexis said as she let go of Derek and greeted the rest of her family.
"We're family, Lexie, of course, we're going to help," Lexie's uncle said as he hugged his niece.
Lex then moved on to Laura and Cora, hugging them both just as fiercely. Laura smirked at Alexis, "I have some juicy gossip for you, dear cousin."
"Oh, yeah, what?"
"Can't tell you until later," Laura said as her eyes flash to her brother.
Alexis followed her gaze, and her eyes widen, "Oh, you have to tell me now."
"Nope, suffer."
Alexis groaned but accepted it. Alexis asked her family to follow her into the house, where she introduced them to Ambrus, "It's nice to meet the Hale Pack," Ambrus said, "The Pup has told me all about you."
Derek, Laura, and Cora snorted.
"Yes, he calls me the same thing, shut up," Alexis said and rolled her eyes.
Seth shakes his head, "It's nice to meet you as well Ambrus, I'm Seth; these are my children Laura, Derek, and Cora. My wife will be along tomorrow."
Ambrus shakes Derek's hand and kisses Laura and Cora's hands.
After that, the Cullens came and greeted the Hale pack. They talk for a bit; then, Jasper suggested that they head out to the clearing where the shapeshifters are supposed to meet them. Emmett, Alexis, Derek, and the girls loaded up into his Jeep and drove out the clearing where they were to meet the shapeshifters.
When everyone got there, Jasper and Emmett started practicing. Jasper flung Emmett across the field, and Emmett landed hard on his back and skidded to a stop, "AGAIN!" Emmett yelled.
He rushed Jasper and they continued to fight, while Alexis cheered for his mate, "That's right, Baby, you can do it." She yelled.
"He can't do it," She whispered playfully to Laura.
"I heard that, Babe. Way to build up my confidence."
"Only trying to keep you from getting a big head."
Emmett looked at his mate, "Oh, but you like my big-"
"Shut up!"
Emmett threw his head back and laughed.
At that moment, Edward turned around and looked into the woods, "They're here. They don't trust us enough to be in their human forms."
"They came, that's the important thing. Will you translate?"
Edward nodded.
Jacob, in his wolf form, goes over and stands between Bella and Rosalie. Derek is standing on the other side of Bella while Samantha is with Rose, "Hey, Jake," The girls say in unison.
Derek looked at the russet-colored shape that his mate is petting. Bella looked at Derek and smiled, "Derek, this is Jacob Black, my best friend. Jake, this is Derek Hale, Alexis' cousin."
Derek nodded towards the wolf, and Jake did the same thing. They turn their attention back to Carlisle, who is now speaking to the pack, "Welcome."
"Thank you," Edward translated for Sam, "We will watch and listen, but no more. That is the most we can ask of our self-control."
"That is more than enough," Carlisle answered, "My son, Jasper has experience with newborns. He'll teach us how to defeat them; I'm sure you can apply this to your hunting style," Carlisle explains.
"They want to know how the newborns differ from us?" Edward translated.
Carlisle nodded. "They are all very new — only months old to this life. Children, in a way. They will have no skill or strategy, only brute strength. Tonight their numbers stand at twenty. Ten for us, ten for you — it shouldn't be difficult. The numbers may go down. The new ones fight amongst themselves. But They're a great deal stronger than us because their human blood lingers in their tissues. Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months of this life."
"Do you know when and how they'll arrive?"
"They'll come across the mountains in four days, in the late morning. As they approach, Alice will help us intercept their path."
"Thank you for the information. We will watch."
The wolves sighed and sank onto the ground. Meanwhile, the Lycans listened to everything that Carlisle said and committed it to memory.
Jasper then stepped forward, "Carlisle's right. They'll fight like children. The two most important things you'll need to remember are, first, don't let them get their arms around you and, second, don't go for the obvious kill. That's all they'll be prepared for, as long as you come at them from the side and keep moving, they'll be too confused to respond effectively. Emmett?"
Emmett let go of Lexie's waist and walked over towards Jasper with a smirk on his face; Jasper backed toward the north end of the opening between the allied enemies. He waved Emmett forward, "Okay, Emmett first. He's the best example of a newborn attack."
Emmett's eyes narrowed. "I'll try not to break anything," he muttered.
Jasper grinned, "What I meant is that Emmett relies on his strength. He's very straightforward about the attack. The newborns won't be trying anything subtle, either. Just go for the easy kill, Emmett."
Jasper backed up a few more paces, his body tensing, "Okay, Emmett, try to catch me."
Jasper was a blur as Emmett charged Jasper like a bear, grinning while Emmett snarled. Emmett was impossibly quick, too, but not like Jasper. It looked like Jasper had no more substance than a ghost. Any time it seemed Emmett's big hands had him for sure, Emmett's fingers clenched around nothing but the air. Beside Bella, Derek leaned forward intently, his eyes locked on the brawl. Then Emmett froze. Jasper had him from behind, his teeth an inch from his throat.
Emmett cussed.
There was a muttered rumble of appreciation from the watching wolves.
"Again," Emmett insisted, his smile gone.
"My turn," Edward said.
Emmett snarled but went to stand next to his mate.
"Don't worry, Honey Bear, you'll have your chance again," Alexis said and kissed Emmett's chin while Emmett wrapped his arms around Lexie.
They continued to practice all afternoon; each taking turns with Jasper. The Lycans continued to watch, memorizing every move that Jasper made. The following day Ambrus would see how good the major was against a seven hundred-year-old Lycan. Once the training was over, Jacob went back with the pack, and they went back to La Push.
Edward starting walking towards Bella to tell her something, but he stopped in his tracks when he heard Derek growling at him, and his eyes flashed blue. Edward was going to continue towards Bella, but the growl got louder. Confused, Edward decided that he would talk to Bella later. They had to make arrangements about what to do with Bella during the battle.
They all piled into their respective cars and drove back to the Cullen house. When they arrived, The Cullens noticed that there was an unfamiliar vehicle outside their home. All the cars stopped a little way from the car, and everyone got out of the vehicles. The minute Liz and Lexie got out of the vehicle, Talia stepped out of her car.
"Talia, you made it. What took you so long."
"I had to retrieve something before heading up here."
"What?" Lexie asked
The passenger door opened, and Peter stepped out, "Me, Princess."
Liz and Lexie look at each other and scream, "Peter!" "Daddy!"
Peter smiled and held his arms out. His girls rushed into his arms, and Peter hugged them tightly. Tears started rolling down his cheeks as he held his girls. Elizabeth looked up at her husband and kissed his lips, "Oh my god, Peter, you're here; I can't believe it!"
"Believe, Babe, and I'm never leaving you again," Peter said then kissed Liz again.
Peter let go of Liz and turned to Alexis, "My baby puppy isn't a puppy anymore. Oh, Princess, look at you, all grown up."
"But, I'm still your little girl, Daddy."
Peter hugged her tightly, "That you are, Sweetheart."
Peter kissed the top of her head and inhaled her scent. Peter suddenly froze and sniffed again. His daughter's scent had changed. Not only could he smell that her scent now mingled with that of a vampire, but there was something else. Peter gritted his teeth and closed his eyes. Slowly, he lifted his hand and moved Lexie's collar out of the way and saw her mating mark.
A low growl started building in his chest, and Lexie looked up at her dad, "Daddy, are you, alright?"
Peter took a calming breath but didn't say anything. He hugged his daughter tighter and took another deep breath to try to identify what the other scent was. Peter's eyes suddenly widen when he figured it out. He looked up, and his eyes locked onto Emmett's, Peter slowly let go of his daughter, "Stay here, Puppy."
"Daddy, what are you going to do?"
In the blink of an eye, Peter disappeared and had Emmett hoisted in the air by his throat and was slowly crushing his neck, "DAD!" Alexis screamed.
"YOU MATED MY DAUGHTER AND GOT HER PREGNANT?!"
"Dad, please, put him down. Wait. What?" Alexis ask.
