Chapter 7 - Seduction
They were at their favorite Nite Club for dinner and dancing. Kate was apprehensive, tonight she would breakup with her steady boyfriend of nearly 6 months, one Joshua Davidson. Kate is looking absolutely hot and sexy in her black sequined long sleeve dress. The hem is mid-thigh and the front is low plunging, revealing the sides of her ample breasts as a teaser. Josh also is dressed to kill in his Cartier suit looking every bit the successful surgeon and not his normal leather clad bad boy look. The club itself was high end and not the wanna be biker type club that the couple often frequented. For some reason Josh had chosen to make their date location special with this high end Club. Kate saw the irony in that, this date venue would make it a special breakup for Josh and her.
Josh had reserved a stall in the back of the club as usual away from most of the main crowd for a little privacy to have a talk (and to make out)! He had ordered their favorite, the steak dinner with all the trimmings; along with their favorite wine, lots of their favorite wine. They start with appetizers of veggie strips, fried zucchini, with various dips all taken along with their wine. Josh intended for her to consume lots of wine tonight and if it did not lower her inhibitions; it at least help set a mood. It was about mood tonight and getting Kate to a state where she found him irrestible and then followed him to his bed later that evening.
They sat in the booth in their very familiar fashion, Josh with his left arm over her shoulders and Kate resting her back into his chest. It was the comfortable position that they almost always found themselves in when it was a serious date night of dining and dancing. As they chilled in their booth, taking in the crowd scene, they sipped their wine, Josh would on ocassion plant a kiss on her lips after a few sips. Then they get the urge to try out the dance floor for several fast numbers. After which they cool down with romantic slow dances to their favorites, like Roberta Flack's 'Killing Me Softly' which is now playing. During those slow dances, Josh had his hands roaming all over her back, down to her well formed ass, which he squeezes and fondles.
"Josh, please stop, we are in public."
"No one cares Kate, look around you."
She looked at the couples on the dance floor, all making out to this song. One couple kissing unashamedly as they danced close. Another man had both his hands on his partner's rear as he pulled her in closer. People in the booth were drinking and kissing, some so brazenly that Kate had to turn and look away.
Then Josh whispers in her ear, "I want you tonight Kate, sleep with me."
Josh startles her with his request. It is direct and to the point. In the past, Josh would try and work in this topic in their small talk. He is being forceful and had not posed it as a question like he usually does, but a direct proposal to sleeping together. Josh is not asking her for consent to sleep with her but is telling her what he wants. He is not accepting 'No' by his statement. This approach on the matter is new. Kate can not answer him. She is stunned by his approach with her tonight and remains silent to his proposition, more out of surprise than anything else.
This evening she was to breakup with him, but Josh's assertive charm offensive has her so confused and disoriented. Josh is being more aggressive tonight than he has ever been. How then does she now start her talk on ending their relationship? Josh is acting very predatory in his manner. He has overwhelmed her with his bold and seductive moves. She has lost track of her intended goal of this date. This is a Josh she does not know. Was it just coming out now, or has it always been there? Had Josh hid this predatory character trait from her, and now chose to show it? What does it mean for the night?
When Kate does not answer Josh, he takes her silence as a hesitant 'yes' on his proposition for sex. Kate's legs start to grow weak as they get back to their table after the slow dance number. She barely makes it back without faltering. Kate does not know if it is her heightened emotions or the wine causing her condition, maybe both. They, she, had consumed a lot of wine. Her guard is down signficantly as a result. She feels herself losing some control. She needs to recoup her lost composure and regain her dominance of this situation.
Still before she can pause to regain her normal self, Josh has them back at their table. They sit as Josh faces her and holds her frozen in his gaze. Holding out her drink, Josh starts to speak as Kate takes the drink in hand. Josh stops and stares into her eyes . He once again reaches over to plant a kiss on her lips before she can speak to stop his actions. This time though his free hand, which was resting on her knee, starts to roam up and down her outer thigh. Josh gropes her, getting a good feel!
"Josh please stop", she says, but Josh's lips are on hers, so what she says comes out muddled, some of her words not clear, her protest garbled. Josh senses she is weakening to his charm offensive and concludes that she is in the right mood to sleep with him tonight.
When they break the kiss, she tells Josh hurriedly, "Please excuse me I need to use the ladies room." She has lost her composure and quickly needs to get herself back together before she loses it completely and something else happens that Kate has not planned. Josh's behavior tonight is unexpected and has Kate completely off her game by surprise. This is exactly what Josh had wanted, to overwhelm her and seduce her before she can bring up her defenses. Before she can react. It will be quick moves on his part to bed Kate.
Kate gets up quickly and heads to the ladies room. Her head is spinning from all the wine and from her emotional reactions to Josh's foreplay and proposition. Those actions have put her in this dazed state, her mind is befuddled. She tries to recall what she had planned to do for this night . She reaches the restroom and washes her face with cold water and then uses the paper towels to dry her face. Her makeup has come undone and she takes time to re-apply it. She checks her hairdo and then leaves the restroom. She is determined to have her talk, breakup speech with Josh.
When Kate left to freshen up, Josh noticed her agitated state and that had been his intent all along; to weaken her defenses with his fast play to over run her defenses. He sees it is working, but wants to make sure of his success. He pulls out the dime bag of the club drug that George had given him and laces Kate's wine with it. When she returns it seems the pause had gotten her back to a more normal condition.
Once she is seated upon her return, Josh raises his glass for a toast and clicks his glass with her's, "To a fun night", he says.
"Josh, no more wine, I have something serious I need to speak to you on this night."
Again Josh will not allow her to have her way. He must act quickly and decisively before Kate can come to her senses. Then Josh thinks that maybe Kate wants to tell him that tonight is the night. The night that he has wanted for some time. So he decides not to rush her, to let her speak.
"Come Kate, make a toast and then we can then talk."
He clinks his glass against her's, and Kate takes a drink of her wine. That is a mistake, she should not have taken the sip! But she is not expecting her drink to be spiked and the taste of the wine on her tongue is not the usual. The taste is different now, but that may be her losing her palette from having consumed several drinks by now. She tries to get out her words that she wants to break up with him, but the DJ starts a series of fast dances. It's then that Josh grabs Kate's hand before she can speak out, drags her to the dance floor for several fast numbers.
Kate realizes she will not be able to give her breakup speech here on the dance floor. Then the DJ slows it down with a romantic number. Josh takes Kate into his arms and brings her close to his body as they dance. They are close enough they feel each others heartbeats. Kate dances with Josh wanting to end the dance to get back to their table so she can do her break up talk. Then Josh propositions her once again!
"Spend the night with me tonight Kate. Let me show you how much I want you and care for you."
Again, Kate can't find the words. This was supposed to have been a breakup dinner, but Kate has lost that purpose. She is struggling to speak to Josh on her purpose for the dinner. She should not wait to be back to their table to start her discussion, she might not be able to do it since her mind once again gets foggy and she feels dizzy.
"Josh, I have come to a decision", she tells him.
Josh is now sure that Kate is going to say 'yes' to his proposition to sleep with him tonight.
"Josh I've come to a decision on us...", before she can get her words out, her head spins and she almost faints there on the spot.
"What's the matter Kate, are you okay?" Josh asks her and catches her before she can fall down completely. Josh realizes then that he might have given Kate too much of the roofies and takes her one arm and puts it around his right shoulder. He walks her back to their table.
"Josh," she says, "I'm feeling faint!"
"Come on", says Josh, "time to get you out of here and to my place where you can rest and recover from all this", it's working thinks Josh to himself. He has her where he wants her.
This is just the condition he had planned from Kate. He walks her out to his car, Kate still clinging to him. As they past the exit, the club bouncer recognizes them, since they are regulars at the club.
"Kate have a little too much to drink Doc?"
"You think? I'm getting her back home to sleep it off."
The bouncer holds the door open for them.
By the time the valet recovers his BMW, Kate is almost out. When Josh gets her into the passenger's seat, she is out completely and sleeping it off as he drives her to his apartment. Had he given her too much? Or was it the combination of the wine and the club drug that had her like this. She is completely out of it.
The Morning After
Kate wakes from what was a deep and restful sleep. As she opens her eyes, she does not recognize where she is at, then feels someone stir next to her.
It's Josh!
'Oh my god', she thinks and starts to recall last night.
Last thing she remembers is getting tipsy and Josh holding her up so she doesn't fall to the floor. They had gone dining and dancing and she was supposed to have given him the breakup talk. Then suddenly, she senses she has no clothes on under the bed sheets. As both she and Josh are under the bedcover, she pulls up on her side to look under. They are both naked!
Just then Josh comes out of his sleep and sees her, "Good morning Kate."
"Josh what happened last night? How did I get here? Did we...were we...intimate..uh.. last night?"
"Nothing happened Kate. You were dizzy and almost passed out so I brought you here and put you to bed. You were out completely."
"What did you do Josh? Did you force yourself on me?"
"Nothing Kate, I mean I wanted to, but then I realized it was wrong. So I just slept it off too."
"Then how did the two of us wind up naked and in your bed?"
"Okay, yes, I was ...hoping to seduce you, ...but in the end could not carry it out", Josh is being completely defensive in his reply to Kate, " I started but then stopped. Anyway, you were in no condition last night to do anything but sleep it off."
"Josh, how could you? I trusted you and this is how you return that trust. I thought you cared about us, and now you pull this on me. Is this what you wanted to happen? How dare you!"
"Kate, nothing happened! Whatever it is you think happened", but Josh knew he was in a bad position here. He sees Kate's anger and has never seen her like this before. Her alpha female personna is coming out and it is intimidating. This is a side of Kate that Josh has never seen!
She gets up abruptly from the bed and pulls on the covers to hide her nakedness from Josh, but in so doing, pulls the cover completely off Josh. Now he is completely exposed, but she does not look at him. Kate sees her clothes neatly folded on the night stand and grabs them heading for the ensuite to get dressed. When she is done, Josh is sitting on the bed with a shirt and boxers on, he had apparently dressed himself before she exited the bathroom.
Josh stands to meet her but she gestures him to stay in place. Josh is now on the defensive!
"For this little stunt of yours Josh, we are done. I never want to see you again!"
"Oh come on Kate, let me explain. I did not force myself on you last night."
"There is nothing to explain. You shouldn't have done this. Our first time and you force yourself on me. What were you thinking? I have no memory of what happened last night; is that the memory you wanted from me for a first night? It doesn't matter now because we are finished. If you had not attempted this, then you might still have me, but no more we are over as a couple!"
She calls a taxi on her cell which had been in her clutch bag along side her clothes on the night stand. She makes Josh stay seated on the bed while they wait for the taxi. Josh tries to speak every now and then but she puts him off with a loud and firm, 'Don't!'. The fierce tone and firmness of her voice is startling and menacing. This is now Detective Beckett Josh is seeing!
At one time Josh tries to stand and get in Kate's space. She gives him a direct karate punch to his chest with the heel of her open palm and he falls back on to the bed from the force of the open fist blow. Josh sees Kate assume a threatening fighting stance ready to stike if he tries anything.
He realizes then that Kate can handle herself, even though he has the height and weight advantage. Any physical force by him will be met with a equal counter action. He remains seated on the bed. He is totally in shock with this version of Kate and then realizes that as a homicide cop, she has handled violent criminals in the past. That thought has him humbled and intimidated. He stays put!
It is a tense twenty minute wait for the taxi. Once the cab gets there, she is gone from out of his apartment, and out of his life for good.
The Call
When she gets to her apartment, she wants to shower and change clothes. She is feeling dirty and violated as she thinks what had happened that last night. But then, she decides against the shower, and just changes into casual wear. She needs to know if Josh had non-consensual sex with her. She needed to know if Josh had forced himself upon her. To know if what he said about 'nothing happened' is true. She speed dials Lanie.
"Girl, what are you doing calling me so early in the morning. Did something happen last night when you broke up with Josh?"
"Lanie, I think he might have pulled something on me last night. I think Josh may have tried to force..umh...ah...", she can barely speak, but continues, "... I woke up naked on his bed this morning! Naked, Lanie, with no memory of what had happened to me!", she says rushed and all at once .
She sounds frantic but she manages to end it by telling Lanie, "He said that he did want to try something, but could not, so nothing happened, he claimed. But I need to know Lanie. I need to know what he might have done to me!", Kate sounds frantic.
"That bastard, how could he do that? This is so not the Josh both of us have known for almost six months now. Has Josh been hiding his real nature from us, from you Kate, all this time. Is he in reality a serious predator out for the hunt with you as his intended prey?"
"Lanie, that was not the Josh I have known in the past months, he was different last night."
Kate explains what happened at the club. How Josh came on to her so agressively that she forgot about the breakup talk she was going to give him. She tells Lanie about almost fainting at the club.
"You think he drugged you Kate and that is why you were feeling dizzy... are you sure it was not just the wine?"
"Lanie, I need answers and I need your help to find them."
"What do you want me to do Kate?"
"Examine me Lanie, like you would a sexual assault victim?"
"What, are you serious?"
"Yes, as serious as death!"
"Have you showered or done anything that might damage the evidence."
"NO! I wanted to shower, but then realized I shouldn't if you are to examine me for an assault."
"Get to my lab, bring the clothes you wore last nignt, and I will see you there Kate."
"I'm on my way and Lanie, please hurry. I need to know what he did to me last night."
"I'll meet you at my lab and Kate, stay calm, we can handle this, you can handle this."
