Waking up in an unfamiliar place was not very ideal. Waking up in a familiar place that you hate is even less ideal. Waking up in the butterfly mansion infirmary meant that Hayashi had been injured, and had almost died, which was a bad situation. Hayashi never went to the butterfly mansion willingly, which meant she had either passed out somewhere and someone had brought her here or she was still dreaming.
A sharp pain in her stomach confirmed that the latter was indeed false, and she had nearly died. Gosh, Sanemi was going to be pissed. She needed to get out of these quickly before Sanemi was informed of her state. Maybe she would be able to escape some consequences of her actions, maybe she would be able to run away from all of the consequences of her actions.
Hayashi sat up with some difficulty and looked around. She had been placed in a room by herself with a small bedside table and a window with the curtains drawn tight. She looked towards the door, and then the window, and pondered whether it would be worth the risk of getting caught to take the easy way out.
The girl attempted to stand up, but stumbled and fell back into bed when her stomach released a sharp pain. Oh well, who was she kidding. If Hayashi had nearly died, there was no way Sanemi didn't know. At least she had tried to escape, even if all she really did was attempt to stand up. At least she would get food and sleep while in captivity.
Hayashi sunk back into her bed and let out a large groan, she was incredibly hungry.
"Hey! Is anyone out there?!" Hayashi yelled out, "I'm dying in here!"
A few moments of silence passed, then she heard some crashing and loud thudding steps before someone slammed open the door to the room and came tumbling in.
"HAYASHI-SAN" A young girl screamed while scrambling over to Hayashi's side "YOU'RE ALIVE!"
Hayashi winced at the loud noise and immediately regretted calling for help and waking up in the first place. Sleep was so much better than dealing with things, especially considering her current situation.
"Yes, that's quite obvious loud girl, now if you please, I would really like some food. My stomach is in mortal agony right now and it's not the stitches, because that's nothing compared to the internal pain of not having eaten anything in a couple of days." Hayashi said in a monotone voice, she quite unliked the butterfly mansion's food as it was always laced with some sort of medicine, but food is food, and it would have to do for now.
"I- Yes of course." Aoi said, quite taken aback by the girl that laid in the bed before her. Although she had never actually spoken to Hayashi she had heard many things about her, many from Shinobu who often complained about the unenergetic girl. It seemed as if Hayashi didn't care in the slightest that she had nearly died, and seemed more focused on her extreme hunger rather than the large wound she had suffered from only a few hours prior.
Aoi looked at the annoyed girl with messy brown hair and large bags underneath her eyes. Had this girl really sustained such a life threatening injury? She just seemed grumpy and in a bad mood, but acording to Shinobu thats what the girl was always like. Maybe she had ended up in here by accident, she certainly didn't seem like she was injured.
Perhaps she had wandered into the Butterfly mansion looking for a place to sleep? But that wasn't right, who had the Kakushi carried in last night then? The half dead girl bleeding out from her stomach with brown hair, brown haori and dirty kimono looked identical to the girl that was sitting in front of her. How on earth had she awoken so quickly then?
"Hey...?" A hesitant voice interrupted the avalanche of questions and doubts in Aoi's mind, "You kinda spaced out for a couple of minutes, did you suddenly go braindead?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, sure." Aoi responded, the train of thoughts in her head finally coming to a halt, "I'm going to go get Shinobu and she'll come check on you."
Hayashi visibly slumped, she wanted to avoid contact with the Insect Hashira, she didn't want to be officially recognized as 'injured' although it may be too late already. Hayashi would get a serious scolding from Sanemi when he found out, if he didn't know already, and she needed to put that off for as long as she could. Aoi left the room and Hayashi waited nervously. At this point, she just wanted to be out of there.
What about escaping again, would it be too risky? No, Hayashi decided, she would attempt another escape.
Hayashi sat up and chose to ignore the discomfort in her lower torso. She made her way to the window and opened up the curtains. Light shone through the window and to her delight, she discovered that she was on the first story. No parkour necessary to escape. With a little difficulty, Hayashi opened up the window and stumbled outside, nearly falling over several times but continuing to stay upright regardless. When she was finally out, she looked around the small garden and took a couple steps forwards before she froze.
"Where do you think you're going?" A chilling voice came from behind her. She knew that voice all too well. It was futile to attempt escape now, she had already been caught, and someone had already informed her mentor of her situation. Hayashi slowly turned around to see Sanemi leaning againt the exterior of the butterfly mansion, his arms crossed and expression unreadable, although the glare in his eyes sent shivers down Hayashi's spine.
"Um... Shinazugawa-san! I didn't see you there... what brings you here?" Hayashi nervously asked, her voice wavering every so slightly. There was a moment of silence that passed, almost like the clam before a storm. The two looked into each other's eyes, birds chirped in the distance and the breeze fluttered the leaves of a nearby tree. And then then lighting struck and the rain begun to fall, birds were drowned out and the trees leaves no longer mattered, not like they had mattered in the first place.
"YOU ALMOST DIED! WHAT WE'RE YOU THINKING, WHERE DID ALL OF THAT TRAINING GO? WHY DIDN'T YOU GO GET HELP!?"
Sanemi's screams echoed through the courtyard and shook Hayashi's insides,
"IT WAS A LOWER MOON, YOU COULD HAVE FINISHED IT OFF! OR DODGED UNTIL SOMEONE CAME!"
Hayashi lowered her gaze to the ground. She refused to meet his eyes, instead looking at her feet. Within her peripheral she could see that Sanemi was approaching her and insintivley closed her eyes, expecting a slap on the face or something. What she did not expect, was her mentor to wrap his arms around her.
"What-"
"You dumbass." His voice was soft, impossibly soft. So incredibly soft in fact, Hayashi almost didn't hear it. " You worried me sick. You know how much I worried when one of the insect brats came to inform me that you might die!? Never do that again, you understand?" Hayashi could feel her eyes start to get glassy and she wrapped her own arms around Sanemi.
A hug from Sanemi was something that had only happened once, well now twice, in Hayashi's lifetime. When she had come home from the final selection, and now, when she had almost (actually) died. It was... different. It was so incredibly out of character of Sanemi that Hayashi found herself wondering if this was a dream, but a pang in her abdomen let her know that this was, in fact, not a dream.
"Sanemi... my kinda tummy hurts..." Hayashi mumbled halfheartedly, "I'm really hungry... food?"
Sanemi stepped back and looked at his Tsuguko. The persistent bags under her eyes looked even worse than they normally did, her hair was disheveled and it looked like she didn't even have the energy to go out and murder someone.
"Let's go inside, kid, I'll get some food for you." Sanemi sighed, and started walking back the way Hayashi came, "If we sneak you back in now the insect won't even know you've been gone."
Hayashi nodded, but was froze when she heard a voice behind her.
"Ara Ara? What do we have here..."
