Chapter 5: Bull by the Horns

The sun rose slowly as birds in the forest started singing to welcome the new day. Asuka, Bulma, Mugen, and Yasui slept soundly in the cave as Zika and Hama watched the forest peacefully. They successfully defeated the Rockhound Pirates, and the forest is safe for now.

"Join my crew, Zika," Asuka said suddenly, sitting up and yawning.

Zika looked at him and cocked his head, "Huh?"

"You and Hama should join my crew. Let's sail the seas and see the world."

"My mission is to protect the forest," Zika said slowly.

"You wanna be a powerful shinobi, right? I want to get stronger too. The sea is the place for that." Asuka smiled at Zika, "The world is full of strong people we may have to defeat to better the entire world."

Zika smiled and looked at Hama, "What d'you say, boy? Wanna sail the high seas?" Hama barked quietly, and Zika laughed. "We accept."

The pair laughed and the others stirred and got up slowly, yawning and rubbing their eyes. The group sat and ate food in the cave before deciding to set out. As they walked into the woods, Asuka said, "We're gonna steal us a proper ship and sail outta here."

They trekked through the woods and to the southern shore, where they found the corpses of the Rockhound remnants. Their ship was still there and ripe for the taking. Asuka smiled and stepped toward the ship when several marines appeared and made themselves visible. They aimed rifles down at them, and another group of marines came stomping through the sand toward them, Captain Sterik at their head.

Captain Sterik pointed his finger at Bulma and spoke, "Surrender the girl, and we'll let you scum go."

"Yeah, right, I don't believe you," Asuka said, sticking his tongue out at Sterik.

One of the marines on the ship fired his rifle, the bullet striking the sand near the group. Captain Sterik raised his hand toward the ship and stepped closer to Asuka, "Defeating Rockhound is a good achievement for nobodies like you, but you're no match for my men and me." The Captain brandished a large steel club and pointed it at Asuka.

Asuka popped his neck and cracked his knuckles, "C'mon, guys."

"Right."

Zika, Hama, and Yasui dashed off toward the ship as Asuka and Mugen sprinted at the Captain and his men. Time seemed to slow down for Bulma as she stared in disbelief at her friends, blindly throwing themselves at a marine Captain for her. She gripped her baton tight and charged after Asuka and Mugen.

Captain Sterik morphed into his hybrid bull form, standing tall like a Minotaur as he swung his club sideways at the boys. Mugen slid under the attack as Asuka skipped over it, Mugen sliced up Sterik's leg and Asuka struck him in the head with a heavy punch. Lieutenant Marx aimed his rifle from the ship and fired, shooting Mugen in the side, allowing Sterik to kick him in the chest with a heavy blow.

Zika leaped in the air and hurled several giant shuriken that sliced through marines on the beach, and Yasui skipped himself off of a marine and landed on the deck of the ship, spinning around rapidly, delivering heavy kicks to any marine within his reach. Zika and Hama leaped on board the ship and tore into the marines alongside Yasui.

Bulma hurled gales of wind around that knocked marines down and back as Sterik kicked Mugen in the chest and bashed Asuka in the head with the butt of his club. Asuka skipped up in the air and launched his elbows down at the Captain, "Chop-Chop Elbowguns!" Sterik jumped to the side to dodge the unorthodox attacks, and Mugen skipped up beside him, slashed up his left side, and jumped back as the Captain brought his club down hard. Asuka jumped up and spun in the air like Yasui and brought down a devastating kick that Sterik blocked quickly with his club.

Marx blasted his rifle and struck Yasui in the arm with a bullet. Zika and Hama bounced around the ship wildly, striking down marines with a series of Fang Over Fangs. Marx barely managed to evade them when Yasui sped at him, sent a mighty kick up to the Lieutenant's chin, and knocked him in the air leaving him wide open as Zika and Hama nailed him with their Fang Over Fang!

Bulma called the Flying Nimbus and leaped onto it as she zoomed around the shore, blasting gales of wind at the marines. Mugen clutched his side and cut down marines as they charged him. Sterik kicked Asuka hard in the stomach and smashed him in the side with his club. Asuka separated himself at the waist and barraged savage punches at Sterik's chest and face as his legs skipped to the side and kicked him in the back.

Sterik grabbed Asuka's upper body and slammed it into his legs before smashing his club into him and sending him skipping across the sand and messily reassembling. Asuka bounced up and dashed back to exchange more blows with the Captain. Asuka evaded a heavy strike from the club by skipping to the side; he leaped up, slammed his fists into Sterik's head, and sent a swift kick outward to strike him on the chest. Sterik slammed his fist into Asuka's head and swiped his club at him, Asuka flipped over the club in the nick of time and barraged savage strikes that hit Sterik hard in the chest, and he gritted his teeth as he stumbled back.

Mugen continued to cut through marines as Bulma blasted gales of wind down at them from above. The shore and the ship have both been handled, and everyone watches as Asuka and Sterik leaped around quickly and exchanged savage strikes.

Sterik struck Asuka in the side and roughly knocked him to the sand. The Captain took a quick step and kicked Asuka in the head. Asuka rolled back and ducked beneath another swing from the club; moving quickly he drove his fists again and again into the Captain's chest. The solid strikes sent pain screaming through Sterik; he jabbed Asuka back with his club and headbutted the boy down wickedly. Asuka stumbled back and felt his body shake and harden. Sterik struck him in the chest with his club; the blow hurt slightly less than before.

Asuka, his body feeling as hard as iron, separated his upper body into the air, hurled Twin Chop-Chop Rockets down, and struck Sterik square in the head. Asuka reassembled himself quickly as the Captain dropped his club and charged swiftly at him. As Sterik charged at him, Asuka dashed forward to meet him while launching his arms at the Captain. His hands caught and gripped the Captain's horns and stopped him in place as Asuka leaped up and shot an upward kick into the bull-man's jaw! Captain Sterik stumbled back and fell awkwardly onto the sand; Asuka watched him fall before collapsing himself.

Bulma had the Flying Nimbus pick up Asuka and carry him to the ship as the others tossed the marines and their Navy flags from the ship down to the shore. Mugen and Yasui raised the anchor as Zika unfurled the sails. Bulma took the helm and steered them from the island, heading southwest to the next Dragon Ball.

As Asuka lay asleep and recovered from the recent battle, his past began bubbling in his subconscious and erupted as a dream. He tossed and turned, and the dream took him.

Asuka found himself in Party's Bar, a popular stop for pirates and smugglers on the coast of Moby Bay. He happily drank a glass of apple juice and laughed as he slammed the cup onto the bartop.

"Careful, Asuka, you don't wanna break the nice lady's glass, do ya?" Dosu spoke to Asuka with a carefree attitude, the only attitude he had ever displayed. Dosu wore a trench coat composed entirely of dozens of patches ripped from other clothes sewn together. He stood a little over six feet, and his hair was a faded black.

The bartender, Samantha, giggled and waved her hand, "Don't worry about it, sweetie."

Asuka stuck his tongue out at Dosu, and they both chuckled. Dosu took a drink of his alcohol and wiped his mouth with a handkerchief. He noticed Asuka staring at him and stared back at him, "What?"

"Take me to sea with you! Please, Dosu, please." Asuka clapped his hands together as he spoke.

"No way! A wimpy kid like you?" Dosu laughed and finished his drink.

"I'm not a wimp!" Asuka jumped up and raised his fists, "I'll take you on."

Dosu laughed a boisterous laugh, and his surrounding crewmates joined in. Asuka looked around, and Dosu's First Mate, Laruex Lucky, raised a glass to Asuka and chugged it. "Give yourself a couple of years, kid."

Asuka stomped out of Party's bar and down the street pounding. "I'm no wimp. I'll show them!" Asuka shouted to no one in particular and dashed out of Moby Bay and into the dense forest west of town.

He went deep in the forest, looking for the King of the Forest. The King was a giant gorilla that the locals would tell you could never be beaten or tamed. Asuka stomped through the forest in search of the King and walked straight past a tree bearing strange scratches. Anyone who stopped to investigate would have seen it as a warning from bullbears who have recently given birth.

Asuka started calming down as he walked around and heard a sudden roar from nearby. He looked around and saw two baby bullbears huddled together under a tree and heard another cry as the mother bullbear charged from the bushes and slammed into Asuka hard. He hit the ground and skipped off it, slamming against a tree. The bullbear charged again, Asuka scrambled up and leaped up a tree to climb it. The bullbear smashed against the tree hard as Asuka clambered up and sat on a branch.

Hours had passed, and the bullbear sat beneath the tree, waiting to finish the job and kill him. Asuka's stomach growled, and he groaned loudly; why was he so stupid? He should have stayed in town. Looking around, Asuka saw an oval-shaped pink fruit hanging from the tree. He stood up on the branch and steadied himself as he reached for the fruit and snatched it from the tree.

Asuka laughed and stuck his tongue out at the bullbear down below. He then took a bite of the strange fruit, and a horrid taste filled his mouth as he chewed. "Blegh, gross," he said as he kept eating the peculiar fruit and finished it. The bullbear suddenly slammed against the tree, and Asuka lost his balance, falling and landing straight on one of the bullbears horns! The bullbear shook her head and threw Asuka off her; he landed and stumbled back unhurt.

Asuka searched his body for a wound as the bullbear charged again. Dosu leaped from the darkness and landed beside Asuka, holding him tight as he glared at the bullbear. The charging beast stopped dead in its tracks and ran away, roaring with its two cubs.

Dosu looked down at Asuka, "You okay, kid?"

Asuka nodded, "Yeah, sorry I'm such a wimp."

Dosu smacked Asuka lightly on the head and smiled at him, "It took real courage to stomp into these woods alone. It was stupid, but all brave acts are inspired by stupidity!" Dosu laughed loudly and began walking, tugging on Asuka's arm to get him to follow.

Fortune Teller Linh waved her hands over her crystal ball and muttered an incantation. Shu and Mai were bored with this process but needed to know where the next Dragon Ball was.

"Hmm, the isolated ball is located on Kame Island to the west. Three other balls are being transported in that direction as we speak." The Fortune Teller giggled, "Better move fast and get all four of them, or Pilaf will get mad at you." She laughed in their faces.

Mai and Shu gulped nervously and quickly ran out of the room to gather soldiers and hovercrafts.
