Hayashi didn't particularly harbor any feelings towards the Insect Hashira. Sure Shinobu's smile was obviously super fake, and sometimes her kind nature seemed forced, but Hayashi knew that she was doing it for the girls at the butterfly mansion. Shinobu was polite, and had a soft voice that seemed to carry in the wind. Her eyes and tips of hair were a lovely purple colour and while her body was on the smaller size, she was a powerful demon slayer. And while, most of the time, she gave off non-threatening-vibes,
Kocho Shinobu was damn TERRIFYING when she wanted to be.
"Do you have any idea how much you could have damaged your already beaten up body is in very very fragile condition?" Shinobu said in a eerily calm voice as Hayashi sat on her bed, looking down at her hands trying not to shake. "Just last night, you suffered great injuries, and although they have been treated the risk of reopening that rather nasty gash on your lower abdomen is too large. I will ask you to stay in bed, for at least another week. If the wound reopens then you will probably die."
It wasn't that Shinobu was yelling, in fact she was very far from yelling. She was beyond screaming at Hayashi, and that's what frightened the younger girl. Hayashi had been scolded many times in her life, mostly by Sanemi, and he was screaming most of the time. Over the past few years it had become something of a second nature to the girl, and it was kind of expected in the Wind Hashira's mansion. Even if Sanemi was undoubtedly terrifying, it was more so normal to see him angry.
Shinobu on the other hand... something about the glint in her eyes and the quiet flow of her voice made Hayashi want to crawl into a random hole and hide. Honestly, that was probably what she would have been doing if she wasn't so severely injured. But running would be futile, as it always was. Even with her keen sense of smell Hayashi would undoubtedly loose in a game of hide and seek against Shinobu, and she didn't feel like gambling her life away.
So with Shinobu's warning words in the back of her mind, Hayashi sat in her bed for a week. And for her, it was the best week she'd ever had. Nothing beat just sleeping all day, not having to worry about what her next meal was, when her next mission was or if she had to worry about being caught having a nap. It was all too perfect. Hayashi took all the doubts she used to have about the butterfly mansion and threw them out the window, this place was heaven. She needed to get injured more often, that way she could actually have a decent meal and sleep all day as part of her "recovery". The paradise was short lived though, as all blessings are.
"What do you mean I have to share with other people?" The utter disbelief in her voice was unquestionable. Hayashi's perfect, joyous, sleep filled days had come to an end.
"Yeah, because you've recovered enough, Kocho-san thinks you're well enough to share a room with people now. You'll be moving today." Aoi watched the brown-haired girl's eyes dim and her smile fade.
"Curse my healthy body and it's speedy recovery, I wanted to stay in this room forever, safe from the wrath of the world outside of here, now I'll actually have to talk to people instead of staying in here and avoiding everyone..." Hayashi continued to mumble things underneath her breath as she set her downcast eyes on the her hands.
The dead-inside feeling that had clawed its way into Hayashi's heart did not leave for the rest of the day, as she tried to savour her last quiet moments alone before she was expected to share a room with people, who would most likely be noisy, and invasive, and would maybe steal her food. It was nauseating to even think about, and Hayashi considered perhaps forcing her wound to reopen, but ruled it out when she remembered Shinobu's chilling angry voice. So she sat in silence, until it was time to move to her new room.
The first thing Hayashi noticed as she stood outside her room was screaming. It was something she had heard before, but the memory was distant, her brain was foggy from the medications that she had been given. The energy that Hayashi's body spent on healing her wound normally went towards keeping herself awake, so she felt especially tired and not wanting to deal with anyone's bullshit. So the screaming was a problem, but so was this entire situation, Hayashi was just going to have to deal with it.
"I DON'T WANNA TAKE MY MEDICINE!" Were the first words that attacked Hayashi's ears when she entered the room, hoping against hope that she could sneak by and go to bed quietly, as per usual, Hayashi's hopes were ignored.
"WAHHHH, HAYASHI-CHAN SAVE MEE!" The yellow headed boy scampered over to her and hid behind Hayashi, clinging to her like a leech. One of the butterfly mansion girls scampered over with a bottle of medicine in hand,
"No Zenitsu-san! You have to take your medicine, Kocho-san said, remember?" The girl tried to beckon Zenitsu out to no avail, he stayed hiding being Hayashi and used her as a shield.
"You should probably listen to Kocho-san yellow hair... you don't want to see her angry." Hayashi mumbled, growing increasingly irritated that Zenitsu had continued to cling to her. "You also don't wanna see me angry, so step away now and let me go to sleep." Her chilling voice was enough to make even the butterfly girl shiver, and Zenitsu immediately ran away screeching.
Hayashi sighed, and made her way to an empty bed. She sat herself down and laid down on the blankets, aware of the fact that Zenitsu was watching her from across the room. The butterfly girl had left after he had taken his medicine, so he was now staring intently at the tired looking girl. Hayashi of course didn't remember him, in her mind fog she couldn't even remember how to hold her sword properly.
All Hayashi wanted to do was go back into her solitary room, away from that yellow headed boy that stood creepily in the corner, and to sleep. The nagging feeling that she had seen him somewhere before was still there, but Hayashi chose to ignore it.
'If it was important, then I wouldn't have forgotten'
So she closed her eyes, in what she knew would be a futile attempt at sleep. In that exact moment, a huge bang rang out in the room as the door threw open, revealing two exhausted figures. They slinked back to their beds and laid down, just as Hayashi had done moments prior, before noticing they felt another presence in the room.
"HUH?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE KAKASHI?!" The loud and confused voice of the angry boar head guy sounded so close to Hayashi's ear that she was sure she was going to have to get another surgery to fix it. She opened her eyes and were met with the hugest blue eyes she had ever seen. A jolt went through her and she let out a small surprised noise.
"Inosuke! Leave the poor girl alone, I'm sure Hayashi-san has had to deal with a lot, she needs some rest." The burgundy haired boy spoke up, "And didn't you hear Aoi-san this morning? She said we were getting a new roomate!"
Hayashi wondered how he knew her name. Maybe she had met these people after all, maybe they were something important she had to worry about. Well, even if they were important she would eventually remember... possibly. It didn't really matter. Boar head's name was Inosuke, that was all she knew, and it was enough for now. All she wanted was some peaceful sleep. With someone like Yellow Hair Kid and Inosuke around that was sure to be impossible.
"I wasn't paying attention!" Inosuke yelled, and stepped back from Hayashi's bed. He let out something that was half grumble half shout and stomped back to his bed where he flopped on and almost immediately fell asleep. As Inosuke's loud snores echoed around the room the Burgundy kid with a scar on his face walked up to Hayashi.
"Hi, nice to see you again Hayashi-san? How's your wound, we heard you've been healing especially fast!"
So she did know these people. That was a shame, she was hoping she wouldn't have to talk to them. Hayashi wasn't in an especially good mood, so she decided to just be honest.
"Who are you again?"
His face was priceless, the girl's question had caught him completely off guard and he almost stumbled back in surprise.
"Um... hahaha! You're so funny!" He sweat dropped and let out a small, humorless laugh.
"I'm not joking, I haven't the slightest idea who you are. All these medications are fogging up my memory, and if you were important then I would have remembered you. I just want to sleep, leave me alone." Hayashi stated with a dead serious expression and face.
She covered herself in the blankets and closed her eyes for what felt like the third time today. She could feel the exasperation radiating off of scar boy, and she sighed when he finally stepped away. Hopefully Hayashi wouldn't have to deal with those boys for the remainder of her time at the butterfly mansion. Maybe she would complain to Shinobu about it and get her old room back. Maybe she would be able to go back into the Wind mansion. Maybe her sleep would be uninterrupted today, despite all of the noise and distractions.
Well... hopes and dreams don't always come true.
