The post had went up and like a sale, people were on it like white on rice. Thing was, after the initial shock wore off, they were angry but honestly not surprised. The racial climate that it was as of late, nothing could be deemed as unbelievable.
Want to know how your campus white boys feel about us monitories? Take a look a the video posted below. It's clear to say, we're not safe anywhere my black and brown people. We must continue to stick together and fight our oppressors.
They were busy in the library, getting posters ready for tomorrow's protect. Another unarmed black man was shot down by the police. Same thing, different day, and it was taking an emotional toll on her everyone. So when the video surfaced all over the campus, it only ignited the already lit fire, and brought in a new range of emotions.
Mercedes, especially, was having a hard time with it all. She glanced up when she heard some mumbling from the people in there, seeing the reason for it walking through the doors.
The group of boys entered the library, the eerie silences wrapped with so much tension and anger as they approached the table of the girl who posted the video.
"That video was edited."
"Take the post down, Leslie."
"Or what?" She questioned as she looked at him then the rest of them, "Please believe that intimidating me…us, is not going to work."
"That's not what we're doing. That's not even.." Sam started but was interrupted by the girl again.
"You out of all people..." She sneered as she sent him a glare, in complete shock that he would be tangled in something like that, "Really Sam? Your girlfriend is black in case you've forgotten or was she just another fetish?"
"He's just showing his true self. It's always been there. It's giving white privilege with a heavy dose of misogyny and racism." Mia stated as she glared at all of them, "We protested in these streets all summer for justice. During this time, we find out who were really there for us, who were just being performative and who just didn't give a fuck because it wasn't affecting them any."
Mercedes glanced over at them for a moment, her eyes meeting Sam's briefly before she looked away. She not only was disappointed in him but also herself. She always thought that she had a good judge of character but she guess she was blinded this time around.
Sam watched as her attention was no longer focused on him. She was hurt and he could understand why but he needed her to know it wasn't intentional, "Mercedes."
Mercedes didn't dare look up from poster, pursing her lips before Tessa interrupted, "I think it's best you boys get out of here. Don't want your fancy little cars to end up mysteriously damaged by the angry black coalition."
"I drive a Mercedes and they're pretty trustworthy, durable and forgivable towards damage so…" Sam commented as he stared at her, watching as she rolled her eyes and got up from her seat, grabbing the book from the table and walking away. He was hot on her heels, leaving their friends to the ongoing argument. He watched her go down one aisle and he decided to go down the other.
Mercedes pulled the book from its spot, the empty space not so empty as she saw the boy now in front of her.
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry doesn't cut it. I can't believe you would do some shit like that, Sam. I thought you were different." She responded as she placed the book back in the spot and walked away once more but before she could escape, the man had blocked her from leaving, "I swear to…"
"I had no idea Hunter and Kasey was going to spew that hateful shit. If so, you know I would've never went there."
"The problem is, you didn't say anything either." She felt her eyes starting to water up but she refused to cry over this…over him, "You didn't even try…"
"I was in shock, Mercedes, you can't blame me for that but that's not even the full video. Whoever sent it, edited the hell out of it."
Mercedes let out a humorless laugh, mouthing wow as she shook her head, stuck on the you can't blame me for that, "Get out of my way."
"No. Not until you hear me out and let me tell you what really happen after that."
"I've saw, I've heard and I'm done. I'm done with it all and I'm done with you, Sam Evans."
Sam grabbed ahold of her face and took ahold of her lips and he thought momentarily she had caved but he could feel her anger as she pulled and slapped him across the face. One that was heard throughout the library and that brought the library into complete silence.
"You're a fucking idiot and I hate you. Don't ever talk to me again, or so help me God."
"Fuck." Sam tried to keep it in when it happened, watching as she push pass his friends and left out the building. One thing about her, she packed a hell of a slap and he was pretty sure, do to the stinging and pounding sensation, that he had red imprint of her hand on the side of his face. A reminder of how he truly fucked up.
