Chapter 17: Bunnyville
Five days after leaving the Wave Chain, the Misfits sailed south and east to the next island on their adventure. Shuhei controlled the helm as Bulma lay on the quarterdeck in a bikini in an attempt to tan. Mugen and Asuka trained and sparred together on the deck of the ship. Yasui sat in the crow's nest, watching as Zika and Hama wrested on the forecastle below.
A News Coo bird flew to the ship and landed on the crow nest with Yasui. He placed some coins in the bird's pouch and snagged a newspaper from it. The bird flapped away, and Yasui began flipping through the pages of the newspaper.
He read that the Navy had picked up Gato, and the villagers were given all the credit for defeating him. On the next page was an article about the upcoming Yorknew City auction, where Madam Wakaba promised some fun items would be up for bid. The last piece that caught his eye was about turmoil in Valentas Kingdom.
Yasui rolled up the newspaper and looked around, "Island coming up!" He shouted down to the others.
"Yeah, I can see it!" Shuhei called back up to him.
Shuhei steered the ship, and they docked at a small port on the edge of a small town. Yasui climbed down from the crow's nest and unfurled the sails on his way down. Asuka leaped off the ship and onto the island with a "Yahoo!"
Mugen, Shuhei, Zika, and Hama jumped off after Asuka and began walking toward the town. Yasui looked over at the quarterdeck and saw Bulma lying in her bikini. He walked over to her and said, "Are you coming?"
"Not yet. Bulma shook her head, "I'm gonna tan a bit longer."
"Alright, I'm gonna borrow the nimbus and go shopping," Yasui said and walked off, jumping from the ship and onto the ground.
Yasui ran and caught up with the others as they walked into the town. The town was vibrant and welcoming, with businesses and other buildings lining the streets.
"Pub?" Mugen asked nobody in particular.
"Let's go," Zika said as he and Hama walked off with Mugen.
"I'm gonna pick up food and medical supplies, the usual shopping," Yasui said.
"I'll come with you; I want to buy some candy," Shuhei said.
"I'm gonna walk around." Asuka said, "I'll catch up with you later."
Yasui and Shuhei walked down the street together; Asuka turned the other way and walked down the road. Asuka walked up to a fruit stand and bought an apple; he ate it slowly as he walked down the street.
After about twenty minutes, Bulma stood up and stretched on the quarterdeck. She yawned and took off her sunglasses, looking out at the town. She went below deck and changed into an oversized red jacket, short orange shorts, and red high-top shoes. Looking around her bags for her hats, she finally pulled a red cap from her bags and placed it on her head. Bulma grabbed her Climate Baton and tucked it into her jacket; she walked back onto the deck and hopped off the ship.
Bulma skipped toward the town and smiled as the sun warmed her up. Three men in black jumpsuits with black bunny ears on their heads watched as Bulma entered the town. She smiled at them and continued down the street. The three men followed her as she walked.
"What's up with the guys with the bunny ears?" Shuhei asked as he and Yasui walked down the street.
"Who knows, maybe they worship a rabbit God or something," Yasui said and shrugged.
Their supplies were stacked up on the nimbus as they walked down the street and visited various shops. They turned a corner and saw five armed men with bunny ears terrorizing a shop. Shuhei and Yasui stared at the men, and Yasui sighed loudly.
One of the men looked at them and asked, "What are you looking at?"
"We're looking at you." Shuhei smiled, "Who are you, bunny weirdos?"
Two men aimed pistols at them, "We're the deputies of Boss Rabbit."
"Boss Rabbit?" Yasui asked with a smile.
"Man, that's lame," Shuhei said with a nod.
The duo moved quickly and dodged bullets as the men fired at them. Shuhei Shaved at the man who had first spoken and pierced him in the chest with a Finger Pistol. Yasui spun quickly and slammed kicks at the men in quick succession. The so-called deputies were beaten down in a few moments, and the duo walked off with the nimbus floating between them.
Zika and Mugen drank ale at a table in a pub while Hama lay next to them. They looked through the window and saw a group of men wearing bunny ears on their heads rushing down the street and shouting at each other.
Mugen chugged the rest of his drink and looked at Zika, "Who do you think they're after?"
"Hmm, probably Asuka." Zika answered.
Mugen grinned and said, "Probably."
"So, who the hell are those guys?" Zika asked.
"The weirdos with the ears? Who knows, people are weird." Mugen said and shrugged.
"One more round, and then we'll go check it out. How does that sound?" Zika asked with a grin.
Mugen laughed and said, "Make it two more rounds."
"Four more of these!" Zika called out to the bartender.
"Oh, Bulma!" Asuka called out and waved at her.
Bulma waved back and jogged over to him, "This place is weird."
"I know, the bunny ear people are funny-looking," Asuka said with a chuckle.
"See those three guys." Asuka spotted them over her shoulder, "They've been following me since I showed up."
Asuka pointed his finger at the three men and shouted, "Leave my friend alone, you bunny-headed weirdos!"
Bulma groaned loudly as the three men strolled closer to them, and one of them said, "We are the loyal deputies of Boss Rabbit; you can call us The Bunnies."
"I won't call you anything; leave us alone!" Asuka called out to them.
"Sir, if you continue to act rudely, we will surely have to arrest you." One of the Bunnies said.
Another stated, "But the girl is perfect for the boss."
"Not interested," Bulma said, sticking her tongue out at the Bunnies.
One of the Bunnies took several steps toward Bulma, and Asuka struck him in the jaw with a swift punch. The man hit the ground, and the other two raised their guns at Asuka, but Bulma pulled out her baton and blasted them with a gale of wind. The Bunnies stumbled back, and Asuka leaped at them and barraged heavy punches that dropped them both.
They turned down the street and saw the townspeople dashing away as more Bunnies came running toward them carrying a palanquin. Asuka and Bulma watched as the men stopped and set the palanquin down gently. A large rabbit man stepped out from the palanquin and looked at Bulma. The rabbit man wore black sunglasses and a red robe with golden patterns on it.
"Wow, she is hot!" The rabbit man said with a grin.
"You must be Boss Rabbit," Bulma said matter-of-factly.
"So you've heard of me, huh, pretty girl? Want to be the lady of Bunnyville?" Boss Rabbit slowly approached with a sly grin on his face.
"I want nothing to do with you! You weirdo!" Bulma shouted and crossed her arms.
"Oh." Boss Rabbit looked shocked and said, "My apologies, then. Truly, I'm sorry." He extended his hand toward them.
Bulma reluctantly stretched her arm forward and shook Boss Rabbit's hand. He laughed wickedly, and with a puff of smoke, Bulma turned into a carrot! Boss Rabbit caught the carrot and jumped away from Asuka.
"Bulma! What did you do?!" Asuka shouted.
Boss Rabbit laughed and said, "I ate the Mythical Zoan Leporidae-Leporidae Model: Toninjinka!"
Asuka charged forward when Shuhei shouted, "No, stop!"
Asuka stopped and looked at Shuhei and Yasui, "He turned Bulma into a carrot!"
"And if he touches you, you'll become a carrot too!" Shuhei called to him.
The Bunnies raised their guns and aimed at Asuka, Shuhei, and Yasui. Yasui and Shuhei dashed forward and smashed into the goons. Asuka charged at the rabbit-man, and Boss Rabbit leaped powerfully away and landed on the roof of a building. More of the Bunnies rushed into the street, and Asuka hurled Chop-Chop Rockets that struck into them. Shuhei and Yasui crushed through the goons and made their way to Asuka.
Boss Rabbit leaped from the roof he stood on to another nearby, and Asuka charged down the street after him. More goons surrounded Yasui and Shuhei, and the duo crashed into them with fierce strikes.
Mugen, Zika, and Hama exited the pub and heard gunfire nearby. They rushed down the street and saw a large rabbit man hopping from rooftop to rooftop. Asuka suddenly scrambled up onto a roof and jumped after the rabbit man. They dashed down the street and followed the two on the rooftops.
Hama dashed forward and launched himself up and struck into the rabbit-man. As they fell, there was a puff of smoke, and Hama was turned into a carrot!
"Boss Rabbit can turn you into carrots if he touches you!" Asuka shouted at Mugen and Zika.
More of the Bunnies charged at them, and Mugen ripped into them with his sword. Zika dashed at Boss Rabbit and threw a swift kick. Boss Rabbit hopped over the strike, slammed a powerful kick into Zika's chest, and knocked him down hard. Asuka hurled a Chop-Chop Rocket as he kicked Zika, and Boss Rabbit caught Asuka's arm by the fist!
"Shit!" Asuka exclaimed, and with a puff of smoke, his body and arm turned into portions of a carrot.
Boss Rabbit held the carrot tip in his hand and tossed it up in the air, mouth wide open. Shuhei leaped up and kicked off a building; he launched into the air and caught the carrot tip in his left hand. Boss Rabbit reached up to grab Shuhei's foot, and Yasui sped forward and slammed a heavy kick into his chest. Yasui and Shuhei skipped away, and Shuhei caught the other part of Asuka.
Zika picked up Hama and clenched his teeth. He leaped up, twisted himself rapidly, bounced around the buildings, and struck Boss Rabbit hard in the back. They toppled to the ground, and Boss Rabbit slapped Zika in the back, and with a puff of smoke, he turned into a carrot.
Shuhei Shaved forward and jabbed Boss Rabbit in the back with two Finger Pistols as he jumped up. Boss Rabbit cried out in pain and spun around, he lunged forward, and Shuhei skipped away from him.
"He has to touch you with his hand for his ability to activate." Shuhei said to Yasui and Mugen.
Yasui kicked down goons as Mugen slashed through them, and Boss Rabbit glared at the three of them. The three of them charged forward, and Boss Rabbit launched himself into the air and landed on a rooftop. Shuhei Shaved and launched himself up after Boss Rabbit, and he slammed a kick into the rabbit-man's gut.
Boss Rabbit stumbled, fell from the roof, and landed in the street, and both Yasui and Mugen charged at him. Yasui sent a kick that Boss Rabbit blacked and slapped his leg. Yasui puffed into smoke and turned into a carrot, and Mugen slashed Boss Rabbit from hip to shoulder with his sword. Mugen skipped back as the rabbit man screamed in pain. With his eyes set on Mugen, Boss Rabbit didn't notice Shuhei land behind him, and he barraged a flurry of Finger Pistols into the rabbit-man's back!
Boss Rabbit staggered forward and fell to the ground, dead. The carrots all puffed into smoke, and Yasui, Zika, Asuka, Hama, and Bulma reappeared in the street! Shuhei and Mugen fist-bumped and looked at the others.
"Nice job, guys!" Asuka said and laughed.
The few remaining Bunnies turned tail and ran away as Boss Rabbit was killed. The Misfits gathered together and looked around; they saw townspeople staring at them from windows and cracked-open doors.
"What an annoying ability," Bulma said as their group began walking down the street.
"Nimbus!" Yasui shouted, "Go to the ship!"
They saw a yellow streak soar through the air in the direction they walked.
"Thank you!" Voices shouted at the Misfits as they casually walked out of the town.
They boarded the ship, and Yasui and Bulma put the supplies away. Bulma looked at the Log Pose and said, "The Log Pose hasn't stored this island yet. We have to wait until it directs us to the next one."
"Well, I'm not going back into town," Yasui said.
"Yeah, screw that," Zika added.
"I'm gonna take a nap," Mugen said, and he walked below deck.
On an island south of Bunnyville, Lucy and her crew sat in a bar drinking alcohol at a table. Her Vice-Captain, Lee, one of her oldest friends, sat to her right. Lee was a tall boy with blond hair; he wore a blue tank top and tight black pants. To her, left was Chihiro, her trusted friend, and Navigator. Chihiro had fiery hair and wore an orange crop top and black shorts with fishnet stockings.
To the left of Chihiro sat Willem, a lanky man with brown hair wearing black pants and a blue button-up shirt. He took a long drag of his cigarette and exhaled loudly as Duros, on the other side of Willem, set his drink on the table and waved the smoke away from his face. Duros was a tall man with dirty-blond hair wearing pieces of armor over his clothes. Willem holds the position of Helmsman, and Duros is the Quartermaster.
On the other side of Duros sat Ragnar, an even taller man with thick muscles and curly black hair. Ragnar simply wore a dirty white tank top and brown pants with boots. Lastly, Pearl sat between Lee and Ragnar, dwarfed by the tall men around her. She had straight pink hair and wore a dark red cloak over dark clothes. Lucy wore a purple jacket with high-collar, black pants, and open-toed shoes. Ragnar holds the position of Shipwright, and Pearl is the cook.
"Where are we heading next?" Lucy asked Chihiro.
"Log Pose is aiming due west of here," Chihiro answered, taking a drink from her glass.
Lucy chugged her drink and slammed her glass on the table, "Let's set out then!"
This crew, the Enigma Pirates, stood up and walked out of the bar slowly as they laughed. As they walked down the road toward the docks, they spotted a Navy ship docked, and marines walked around brandishing rifles and swords.
A cannon on the Navy ship erupted loudly and fired at the Enigma Pirates! Lee crossed his fingers, and a large green rectangular barrier appeared, shielding them from the cannonball as it exploded.
A group of marines marched toward them, a tall, broad-shouldered man leading them forward. Lee dropped his barrier, and the pirates stared at the approaching marines.
"Ah! The Enigma Pirates!" The tall man said with a cocky grin.
"Commodore Paxton, how awful it is to see you again," Lucy said with a smile.
"You're a dangerous woman, Eiffel D. Lucy." Commodore Paxton said slowly, "It is my duty and pleasure to eliminate you in the name of justice."
Lucy laughed and reached the back of her belt where her sword was tucked; she pulled her sword and said, "You're insanely outmatched, Commodore." She grinned slyly.
