A/N: Thank you so much for reading and reviewing the last chapter. I really appreciate that you're still with me after such a long hiatus. I planned on getting this current chapter out earlier, but every time I began to edit I would start to change everything. Now that I have something solid I wanted to get it out so I can begin working on chapter 5. Hope you enjoy!
"What's a soulmate?"
"Well, it's like a best friend or more. It's the one person in the world that knows you better than anyone else. It's someone who makes you a better person. Actually, they don't make you a better person, you do that yourself because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone you carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you and accepted you and believed in you before anyone else did or when no one else would. And no matter what happens, you'll always love her. Nothing can ever change that."
When Damon Salvatore was a young boy, his grandmother used to read to him every night. At the age of seven, Geneve' Salvatore was his best friend and the calm in the storm that was already his life. That storm being a father who, even at such a young age, didn't treat Damon how he should have. With his mother's concentration being fully on a newborn Stefan, Damon took the insults and the beatings. That was until his grandmother found out and knocked Giuseppe down a notch. It was safe to say that their father/son relationship never got physical anymore, even after Geneve's death many years later. Instead, Giuseppe just made sure he affected him mentally by making sure everyone knew who his favorite son was.
But, that was neither here nor there.
Before Geneve's illness plagued her and she succumbed to death, she had been Damon's parental figure. She was a spitfire who could hold her own and no one dared cross her. Yet, she was still one of the nicest people you could ever meet. When Damon asked her that question about soulmates, her response was still clear in his memory, almost as if she were standing right in front of him.
Being alive for over a century, Damon knew exactly who his soulmate was. At one point in time, any and everyone would have assumed his answer would be Katherine, but he could truthfully say that her name was immediately crossed off the list. Unfortunately, it took decades, but he knew that Katherine was just an obsession, not someone he was in love with. Let's just say, he was extremely grateful to be over that.
That left Elena Gilbert. Katherine's doppelgänger. It made all the sense in the world for it to be her. They were in a relationship and in love with one another. Damon Salvatore finally got the girl. She chose him and she was the complete opposite of his past paramour that shared the same face. He tried not to think about the fact that she was once in love with his brother, and that he practically stole her away from Stefan. Damon fell for someone who truly loved him back… someone who did what Katherine couldn't.
Yet, to truly understand the description that his grandmother gave him, neither Katherine nor Elena was who he thought of as a soulmate. And that was because he knew without a doubt that his best friend was the epitome of the word.
Bonnie Sheila Bennett.
He knew that best friends could be soulmates and live their own separate lives without ever being romantically involved, but the feeling that he had was something else entirely; something Damon had been trying so hard to keep hidden. He was smart enough to know that opening a pandora's box like this one wouldn't do good for anyone. However, he was Damon Salvatore, and well, he was known to be a bit compulsive.
It may have taken a prison world to connect them on a level past frenemies, but Bonnie became his best friend, and he would never regret it. She was someone who saw every part of him, and never once tried to change who he was. Yes, she was quick to call him out at any time he stepped out of line, but he respected her for that. She balanced him out, and he could be himself around her without fear of judgment. Regardless, if that was one of his nicknames for her.
Bonnie was a breath of fresh air, and she was like coming home after a long trip. She provided a comfort he didn't know he was missing. He could literally spend hours with her without even saying a word. In the prison world, those nights where they decided not to end the day watching a movie, they used to read to each other instead of spending it alone. There were moments where they would meet in his room just to lay there and talk about any and everything, and that brought him a world full of peace.
Damon was in complete awe of Bonnie. It wasn't just because she was beautiful, even though Bonnie could make even a blind man stumble to their knees. It was her heart, her mind, the drive and passion in her eyes, and the way she cared for those around her. He felt like he had won the lottery when he became one of the people on her list she cared about.
It was safe to say that Damon could never imagine his life without her.
And yet all of this could be considered inappropriate, because he was in a committed relationship with the girl who was also Bonnie's best friend…well second best friend. Elena was the girl he was willing to wait for while she was in a magical coma. A secret he would never tell though, is that as time went on, he made a decision that he would never see his girlfriend again, because he wasn't going to allow Bonnie to grow old and die.
Admitting that out loud was breaking a loyalty he had to his girlfriend and his best friend.
It was no secret that Damon was a complex individual with a lot of flaws. If it was one thing about himself that he realized, it was that. He knew that he liked getting his way. He loved hard where it tangled upon the line of possessiveness. Was it healthy? Probably not. Would he stop being that way? Most likely not. Would Bonnie kick his ass if he continued acting that way towards her? Yes. Would Elena? No. And that was saying a lot.
In all reality, Bonnie shouldn't even be in that equation, because then he'd have to admit something to himself that could ultimately push her away. And if there was one thing Damon would never want to do is push Bonnie away. There was already a part of him that couldn't just be content with what he had. He felt like he needed more of her. And yet he couldn't have any of her.
Damon's mind was still all over the place from everything that took place the other day and through the last month. When Bonnie transitioned into becoming a vampire, he knew that it wasn't easy for her. She held so much control over her life and tried to constantly do everything in her power for others, that losing that control put her in a dark place that she almost didn't come out from. It was selfish of him for begging her to transition, but he was glad she chose to turn. He couldn't live in a world where she didn't exist anymore.
Damon hated the fact that it was Klaus's blood in Bonnie's system the night she died, but he had to be grateful because without his blood she wouldn't be here right now. Every night he wishes he could bring Lily back just to kill her again. Using the "Damon, that's still your mom" line didn't apply to him anymore. She stopped being his mother when she tried to kill him numerous times. And then she succeeded in killing the woman he…
It was safe to say that he was glad Lily was dead. Still, he didn't just blame her for what happened to Bonnie. He blamed Kai for being the psychopath who wouldn't leave her alone and had some weird fixation on her. He found himself blaming Stefan a few times for hesitating, just like they knew he would, but most of all he blamed himself because if he were her partner that night, her death would have never happened. He would have kept her alive and safe.
After everything Bonnie had been through in her life, she deserved someone to finally show up for her, and it pained him that again no one had. Especially when it should have been him.
The night she accepted his pleas to transition, he vowed that he would always be there and protect her. He would show up for her whether she liked it or not.
That revelation, however, wouldn't sit right with his girlfriend; the person who had his heart. But he couldn't deny that Bonnie Bennett held a special place in his heart too.
Damon would never admit that the day Bonnie tried to end her life permanently was one of the scariest days of his life. He remembered her throwing her daylight ring to the ground and running out of the boarding house. Stefan and Caroline found her first, and when he appeared and saw the sadness and fear in her eyes, it pained him more than he cared to admit.
He remembered taking her to some deserted crypt, dropping to his knees and encircling her waist begging her to stay. He needed to hold onto her because he was afraid that she would disappear; that she would choose death. His mind was plagued with what ifs. What if he didn't find her in time? What if she chose death anyway? Because of that he never wanted to let go.
That day they both laid their vulnerability out into the open with each other. When they walked back home with their fingers intertwined, she didn't pull away even as he kept placing light kisses to her hand. They shared a moment that would always stay with him.
So, the other day when he smelled Klaus Mikaelson on her, he instantly saw red, and he was well aware that he didn't have the right to have that reaction. He was also aware that he was very over protective of Bonnie. She was not his and he needed to stop acting that way before he lost her friendship. Because he knew that was all he could have from her.
That meant he was going to have to really get over this Klaus thing. Regardless if she hadn't done anything with him, there would be others that would have the pleasure of being with her in ways that he wasn't allowed to be.
To think of Bonnie Bennett in that way wasn't right, but he didn't want anyone with her. It wasn't fair, he understood that. She had forever now, which meant that before she settled down with the love of her life, she would have flings, one night stands, and even relationships that lasted for years. Others would be able to have that with her, but others weren't good enough for her.
Damon Salvatore wasn't good enough for her.
But that didn't stop his mind from wondering what it would be like to be chosen by Bonnie; to be more than just her friend…
It was safe to say he was losing his mind.
"Damon, this one's gorgeous!"
Elena's voice brought him out of his thoughts. He almost forgot he escorted his girlfriend to the mall because she wanted to go pick up a few things. Damon was glad when they were about to leave, but of course another shop caught her eye. She grabbed his hand so fast, he thought she used vampire speed to go inside with how quick they appeared.
He was well aware that Elena was subliminally leaving hints about proposing. She mentioned it a few days ago while they were laying in bed after a couple rounds of lovemaking. She brought up how she wanted to go back to school for nursing, have her dream home with a white picket fence, and one day tie the knot. She squeezed his hand lightly as soon as she mentioned marriage, yet continued to say they could adopt children and get a dog.
Elena wanted a perfect life, and although Damon thought she deserved it, he wasn't sure how much he could truly give her right now.
"Would you like to try it on?" One of the employees walked up to them with a big smile on her face, ready to open the glass case to pull out the ring that had Elena smiling from ear to ear.
The look she gave him should have made all his previous thoughts and apprehensiveness non existent. Just seeing how happy she was should have been all he wanted…all he needed, but he needed more.
The look he gave her told her she could try on as many as she wanted. The perfect scenario, which was no doubt floating around inside of Elena's mind, was that she would find the ring she wanted, Damon would come back later, buy it, and then surprise her with her dream proposal. She would then act surprised as if he caught her off guard, she would say yes, and then they would plan her epic wedding.
The ring was on Elena's finger in no time. A $15,999 ring that they should have just rounded up to $16,000. Not that money was an issue. She could select every ring in here and Damon could buy them all without breaking the bank.
"The perfect ring is like the perfect dress," The lady, Marie, explained. "When you find the right one you need to take full advantage. And this my dear is the right ring."
"Oh, Damon, doesn't this look beautiful."
He nodded, "It does."
"It's even the perfect size." Marie commented, "We usually have to size it to fit our patron's fingers, but this fits you perfectly." She gazed from Elena to Damon, trying to give Damon the eye to make the decision on the ring.
"Look how lucky that is." Damon tried his best to keep the excitement going, but his voice held a bit of sarcasm.
"When you know you know." Marie smiled.
While she and Elena discussed every miniscule detail of the ring, Damon was about to pull out his phone to see if he received any text messages, but an emerald ring caught his eye. It was beautiful and it didn't take a rocket scientist to know who it made him think of.
Right when he was about to walk closer to examine it further, a familiar scent entered his nose, making his mouth water. Damon looked up instantly towards the outside of the shop. He was surprised to see Bonnie standing there not too far away.
She was staring at him, and it was as if time had stopped. As if they were the only two people in the mall. He almost didn't take notice that Caroline was standing right beside her.
He watched as her eyes glanced at Elena talking to Marie with the ring on her finger, and it made her look away quickly. He didn't zero in on the words she spoke to Caroline in that moment, but she turned to leave with blondie following after her.
He wanted to go to her, but he knew he couldn't do that.
"He's taking me on a trip at the end of the summer, and I think it's going to happen then."
Elena's voice brought him back to reality.
"You are so lucky," Marie commented. "He's gorgeous."
"I know right." Elena smirked.
What the hell was he getting himself into?
When Bonnie woke up this morning, she wasn't expecting to spend half of her day at the mall, but Caroline demanded that they needed to get out of the house and have a self care day.
That self day care included shopping, facials, manicures, pedicures, and getting their hair done. Surprisingly, it was everything Bonnie needed to feel that ounce of normal she was craving to have again. Now that she was a vampire, it felt like everyday she was going through some type of emotion, but now that she was learning to adapt better and accept this huge change, she was finally feeling okay to do something for herself. Not to mention her cravings for blood was no longer consuming her, so that added to her adaptation.
"I think this was much needed after the other day." Caroline took a bite of her pretzel, as they walked through the mall, balancing shopping bags in their hands.
"Agreed. I'm actually excited that Stefan is throwing us a dinner party tonight." Bonnie added. They all woke up this morning to invitations under their bedroom doors, inviting them to a multi-course dinner where they can dress up and enjoy each other's company. It was the normalcy they were all trying to have and Bonnie was really looking forward to it.
"Yes, me too. Shocked, but excited nonetheless. I'm glad we were able to find outfits with such short notice." Caroline said, "But I wish he would have at least let me in on the planning."
Bonnie couldn't help but smile, she knew Caroline needed to insert herself in every aspect of event planning.
"Anyways, we should have these self care days more often. Just the two of us though."
That was Caroline code for she was still upset with Elena after their girl's night.
"You know we can't leave Elena out." Bonnie commented, but smiled at a few guys that were checking them out.
"Okay girl, that is like the fifth time today." Caroline stopped them mid walk. "I'm telling you Bonnie, it's time to get out of this single girl phase you got going on."
"I told you I'm not looking for any serious relationship right now."
"Which is fine, and I hear you. But, I'm sure there are a few guys that you can get under or on top of." She snickered. "I'm telling you when you go back into the whole blood craving thing, sex is always a good scapegoat."
Bonnie chuckled, even though she would actually keep that in mind.
"Plus, you still haven't told me how you're not on a blood high right now. Not that I mind, because I was definitely worried about you, but you seem way more relaxed than the other day."
"I'll tell you, but first you need to tell me what's going on between you and Elena. Didn't you talk to her about the other night? About how it made you feel?"
Caroline shrugged. "We ran into each other yesterday, but did the whole awkward smile thing, and then she rushed back into Damon's room, and I went back to mine. Look, I know we were both under the influence that night, but I didn't say anything I didn't mean. I owned my shit. And Elena, I know she meant what she said about Stefan."
"We don't know that for sure unless you talk to her about it." Of course Bonnie tried playing mediator, but in all reality she knew Caroline was right. She was just hoping that because Elena took way more herbs than them, that her high state of mind made her say some things she didn't mean. "Elena's with Damon now. She loves him. Plus, Stefan adores you, even if you two are playing whatever hard to get game you're playing."
Caroline still didn't buy it, "Yeah, well if what Elena said was true, I don't want to be in the middle of that. Elena was Stefan's epic love. And even though Damon was okay inserting himself in their relationship…. I'm not."
Before Bonnie could say anything further, a familiar laugh invaded their ears. Both she and Caroline turned towards the sound to see Elena laughing with a lady in the jewelry store, with Damon standing not too far away.
"I guess she wasn't too intoxicated when she mentioned Damon proposing, because clearly that was true." Caroline mumbled.
Bonnie's stomach did an unexpected flip flop, and before she could look away, Damon's eyes found hers. She didn't know why she felt awkward at that moment, but her skin began to feel flush, and she knew it was time to go.
"I think I'm done for the day." She told Caroline rather quickly, and began walking in the opposite direction.
It wasn't some secret or a huge shock that Damon and Elena were going to tie the knot. Bonnie just didn't know why she felt weird all of a sudden.
Thinking of Damon proposing to Elena consumed Bonnie's thoughts that she didn't even notice Caroline had caught her and Damon staring at each other before she turned to walk away.
"Care, you did all of this in twenty four hours?" Bonnie asked, as they sat in the Salvatore study, looking through a binder with her new charity event plan. It was filled with so many details, pictures, and examples, she couldn't help but be in awe of her best friend.
"No honey, I did all that yesterday in a span of four hours." She beamed, clapping her hands together. "And I've already booked the venue, confirmed with most of the guys, made flyers, and will be scheduling the social media posts tonight."
Bonnie read the headline again: Celebrate the Date Auction
"So, you're throwing a boy toy auction?"
"Yes, but not just so we can bid and go on a date with the cuties of Mystic Falls, but the money will go to charity. Plus, we need some entertainment this summer, because I don't plan on sitting in the boarding house all day every day until classes start back."
Caroline did have a point. Even though yesterday was nice just relaxing and staying in bed the majority of the day, Bonnie couldn't spend her whole summer doing that, otherwise her mind would be all over the place. She may be finally getting better at accepting vampirism, but that didn't mean she was one hundred percent okay with the change. So, getting out and doing things with her friends was the best option.
"And If I'm not staying in the house all day, neither are you my new vampire bestie. So, you are my right hand woman in this." She continued. "We are still going to need decorations, a set up team, and a photographer in charge of the calendar."
"Calendar?" Bonnie questioned.
"Page eleven."
Bonnie flipped to the page to see the details on the calendar and the twelve men that would be a part of it. There were five guys that they went to highschool with that still resided in Mystic Falls, and then there was: Matt, Tyler, Enzo, Jeremy, Stefan, and Damon.
"Damon really agreed to do this?"
"Well, he will. I haven't asked him or Stefan yet, but I'm sure as soon as you or Elena ask him, he'll do it in a heartbeat."
Bonnie glanced at Caroline briefly. She didn't have that effect over Damon. Elena did yes, but not her. Not that she wanted too or anything.
"Once Stef and Damon agree, all we will need is just one more guy, and this Celebrate the Date Auction is going to be the best charity event that has ever graced Mystic Falls."
She was happy to see her best friend so happy.
"This is going to be so much fun!" She smiled wide. "Thank you for tag teaming with me on this. I wouldn't be able to do it without you. And after that, we are going to host a summer ball…"
Bonnie's eyes widened.
"But, we can discuss that after the auction's success." Caroline grabbed the binder out of Bonnie's hands. "Now, you need to tell me about why your little over the top blood cravings have vanished out of nowhere."
Bonnie all but groaned, hoping Caroline forgot about their conversation at the mall. "Shouldn't we be getting ready for Stefan's…."
"No ma'am." she cut her off "Out with it."
"Fine." It was either now or never. "But you have to promise not to tell anyone. Not even Elena."
"Ooh, secrets safe with me."
Bonnie gave her a look.
"Okay, okay, I promise."
"When we came back from girl's night, and Damon and I got into that disagreement, I went to this club, and I…" Bonnie paused for a moment, trying to brace herself before she revealed her little secret. "...I drank from Klaus."
Caroline's eyes raised. "You met up with Klaus Mikaleson?"
"Not intentionally." She answered rather quickly. "He just showed up and I was starving, and he was just so close, and he practically wanted me to drink from him. With the way I was feeling and the crazy cravings, I just couldn't deny it."
Bonnie leaned back against the couch and covered her face, feeling embarrassed. "And his blood, Care, it was so satisfying going down my throat, I really didn't want to stop." Then she told her what he said about how she was welcome to come to New Orleans and have his blood anytime she wanted.
When she didn't hear any sound from her best friend, she put her hands down and glanced at her, shocked to see a huge grin on her face.
"You know this could be a good thing."
Bonnie definitely was not expecting to hear her say that.
"Not the New Orleans part, but, hear me out. What if you scratched your itch with him? Clearly he enjoyed himself too, if he doesn't mind you taking his blood again. I mean this is Klaus Mikaelson we're talking about, I'm sure he wouldn't let just anyone drink from him."
Bonnie couldn't believe she was even considering it. "It wouldn't be weird for you?" She knew Klaus had a thing for Caroline once upon a time and they did sleep together once.
"Not at all. Klaus laid on his infatuation for me pretty thick, but that was years ago, and I would never let it happen again. So, no it definitely wouldn't be weird for me, in fact I'm encouraging it. And if not him, then we need to find you someone. Hell, you could sleep with Tyler and I wouldn't mind."
"Not Ty. Even if you two never dated, I feel like him and Matt are just off limits. They feel like brothers above anything."
"Yeah, well you do need someone. I would just ask you to hold the phone on Stefan, unless I'm there too." She winked.
Bonnie laughed. "Yeah okay, a threesome with Stefan Salvatore and my best friend?"
"Don't knock it until you try it. We're going to live forever, Bons, which means if there is ever a time you aren't in a relationship and if me and Stefan stop running around in circles and decide we want to branch out a bit, I wouldn't mind it being you." Caroline smiled, unfazed about what she just said. "You do remember that spin the bottle episode last semester, right? You have the best lips."
"Okay. New subject." Bonnie playfully shoved her. She almost forgot how they went to a house party one random night because they were all studied out. They weren't expecting to walk in seeing the crowd playing games from their childhood with an adult spin on it. Instead of leaving, she and Caroline grabbed some booze and partook inspin the bottle. Bonnie's first round landed on Caroline, and what she expected to be a quick peck on the lips turned into her blonde friend's tongue down her throat. She'd blame it on the alcohol even though vampires had amazing tolerance and there weren't any magical herbs involved.
"I'm just saying, I'm game if you are, lover." Caroline joked.
"Anyways, I feel like if I would have let him, Klaus would have had me against the bathroom door of the club and I would have let him screw my brains out."
"As you should. Klaus would be great for no strings attached. Unless, you're deciding to admit that you want someone who may already have a few strings… attached."
Bonnie gave her a confused look.
Caroline shared the same look, but laughed all the same. "I'm realizing now that could have come out better."
"What are you talking about?" Bonnie genuinely didn't understand where she was going with this.
"You know, your secret crush on Damon."
Bonnie's eyes almost popped out of their socket, "What? I don't have a secret crush on Damon."
"You're right, I figured it out so it's not that much of a secret, although I don't think anyone else knows. And I won't say anything if that's what you're thinking."
"Say anything? There's nothing to say. Why on earth would you think I have a crush on Damon?"
"Denial. Trust me, I completely understand. But, with that being said, you should know Damon has the hots for you too."
"Caroline, are you on something right now? Damon is just my friend. He's in love with Elena, and as you saw earlier today, he's going to propose soon."
"What I saw was you two staring at each other from across a crowded mall like no one else was around. Plus, the way Damon acts around you, always wanting to be in your space, not wanting to share you. Like, come on, that's way more than friendship" She put air quotes on friendship.
"That's just Damon," Bonnie explained, although her gut clenched again. "You know he tries to make himself seem like he's my number one best friend, and you know how he gets all territorial from time to time."
"He's only territorial with you. He doesn't even treat Elena like that. Plus, it's crazy he would even think he's number one, when I am." Caroline stood up and began gathering all her items so they could head upstairs and get ready for the dinner party. "But, that's besides the point…"
"There is no point. I do not have a crush on Damon, so please just drop that thought." Bonnie hated that she got a tad bit defensive, but she didn't have a crush on Damon and he didn't have one on her. They were really good friends, and that's all they would ever be to one another. He was happy with Elena, and they were going to get married.
Bonnie started getting hot again like she did in the mall. Yep, it was time to leave the study before she'd be the first vampire on record to pass out from getting too flustered.
"Whatever you say. I'll leave it alone." Bonnie could have sworn she heard Caroline add for now under her breath, but she didn't comment on it. "Now, about the hybrid. I know that by being a newbie vamp, you're having a lot of urges, whether that be blood lust, actual lust, or even those extreme cravings you have, but I do think you should just go for it. It's time to live Bon Bon. You got another chance at life and I don't want you to waste it. So, just think about it. Plus, if those blood cravings do come back, and it's Klaus's blood that helps you not want to rip into our throats and drain us dry, I'd say it's definitely time to hit and quit it." She thought about what she just said, "Well, hit it, quit it, and keep hitting it again."
Bonnie laughed. She loved Caroline so much. She really did have a lot to think about, but it could wait, because they had a dinner party to get ready for.
Bonnie stared at herself in the full length mirror, checking her outfit before she walked downstairs. She had to admit, she looked pretty good, and was actually excited for tonight. Well, excited and a little nervous. She hadn't really talked to Damon since that night he begged her not to move back to her Grams' house. And because of Caroline, her head was swimming with thoughts about a supposed crush she had on him, even though she did not.
"Bon, are you ready?" Caroline knocked and entered the room. "Damn girl, you look hot. My woman parts are tingling."
Bonnie gave her a wink while thanking her. She was wearing a red dress with thick spaghetti straps that had a nice high slit, showing off a good amount of thigh, cleavage was out, and her hair was hanging down in loose waves. She felt like it was the perfect dress for summer and it fit her like a glove.
"I learn from the best, you look absolutely gorgeous." Caroline was wearing a green spaghetti strap mini dress that showed a generous amount of thigh. "Are you planning on bending over in front of Stefan tonight?"
Caroline smirked. "You know me so well, I'm thinking about dropping my fork on accident."
They both laughed, and at that same time they heard a soft knock, as Elena entered the room.
She twirled around, "How do I look?" Elena was wearing the exact replica of the dress Caroline was wearing, just in black.
Bonnie knew Caroline was about to say something based on the look on her face, but Bonnie beat her to it, "You look great, Lena."
"You both do too." Elena looked in the mirror to make sure her hair and makeup were still good and in place. "Caroline, Stefan is going to love that dress on you, and isn't Tyler going to be here tonight too?"
What game was Elena trying to play, Bonnie wondered. Because even she didn't understand why she would bring up Tyler.
"He couldn't make it." Caroline said through clenched teeth.
"I think the guys are going to go nuts over us. Bonnie, Jeremy is here too. I picked him up from the airport today, and he's really excited to see you."
Bonnie forgot that Jeremy was coming into town. In all honesty, she really didn't care to see him. He was her past, and although he would always have a place in their little friend group, that didn't mean that she would ever try to go there again.
"I think it would be really good if you two talked. He misses you."
Was she serious right now?
Caroline must have seen the look on her face, because she immediately spoke up. "Bonnie is considering having a threesome with me and Stefan so she won't be able to have any type of talks." Then she grabbed Bonnie's hand and practically yanked her out of the door.
But not before she noticed the sheer look of shock and panic on Elena's face.
"Caroline." Bonnie whispered.
"What? I had to think of something. I don't know why she brought up Tyler and Jeremy. Our relationships with them ended years ago."
When they got to the top of the steps, all the guys in attendance looked up at them. Bonnie noticed how Steafn could not keep his eyes off of Caroline as she walked down first.
When Bonnie chose to come down next, she felt confident and weightless, but the moment her eyes connected with Damon's, her heart rate sped up and she almost faltered. He really did look good tonight… damn near sinful. She wondered if he liked the way she looked in her dress, but inwardly cursed herself for even thinking such a thought.
Yeah, she definitely needed to look elsewhere. She just wasn't expecting him to stare at her the whole way down, but then again, Elena was descending the steps right behind her, so common sense should have told her that he was staring at his girlfriend. Except Damon's eyes followed her for a mere second longer before they went back towards the stairs to Elena.
"Wow…." She was thankful for Matt pulling her out of her thoughts. "You three look…wow…."
"I think we've rendered him speechless," Caroline smiled.
"He's right you know," Stefan spoke up, still staring at Caroline. "You all look beautiful."
Bonnie was surprised that Caroline's smile to Stefan gave a hint of nervousness. But then again, no matter how much she talked a big game, Stefan Salvatore turned her friend into mush.
After Elena gave Damon a kiss, she walked over to Jeremy and Matt, and Bonnie decided it was time to speak to Damon. It may have sounded crazy, but she did miss him a bit. Both living under the same roof and they hadn't talked in two days. She would put whatever Caroline said about crushes out of her mind and reconnect with her best friend.
"Hey you." She began pouring a glass of Bourbon.
"Bon Bon."
She was a bit taken aback by his tone.
"Is everything okay?"
"Why wouldn't it be?" He took a sip of his drink.
Bonnie knew Damon. She knew when something was wrong, and she knew when he was angry. And for whatever reason, that anger was directed towards her.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really." And then he walked away from her before she could say anything else.
She was grateful that at that exact moment, Stefan announced it was time to go outside because dinner was ready.
Bonnie would not let Damon Salvatore ruin her night.
When Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena made their entrance tonight, Damon tried to rip his eyes away from Bonnie, especially because Elena was standing right behind her, but it was painfully hard. He couldn't help but look her up and down, admiring that damn dress that should only be taken off by someone's teeth.
Damnit, he shouldn't be thinking like that. He would blame it on the copious amount of Bourbon he had been drinking since this afternoon.
But, even though he was checking her out, he was very well pissed at her.
After the dreadful day at the mall, he came back home while Elena took her car to pick up little Gilbert at the airport. He wanted to talk with Bonnie about what she saw at the mall and just to see how she was in general since they hadn't talked in over a day, but to his surprise he heard her and blondie talking in his study.
What he wasn't expecting was to hear her talk about feeding from Klaus and wanting to have sex with him. It took everything in him not to barge in on them and confront her, but he knew he couldn't do that. Too many outbursts would push Bonnie away, and regardless of how angry he was, he didn't want to push her to the point of leaving him.
He meant leaving the boarding house, not him.
Now they were at Stefan's random dinner party. His brother just had to throw something to get everyone together and bond or some crap like that. He really wasn't in the mood for it, but of course he wasn't going to miss it.
When Bonnie walked over to grab a drink and talk to him, her scent entered his nose before he saw her. It was somehow stronger tonight, filling his nostrils with jasmine and honey; warmth and ambrosia.
Before she spoke, he couldn't help but close his eyes for a moment, inhaling and losing himself in her smell. He quickly opened his eyes making sure no one noticed; including her.
Thankfully he was in the clear, but he did notice Caroline look away from him rather quickly. Unless he was just imagining it. Bourbon could have that effect on people, regardless of him being a vampire.
He and Bonnie's conversation was short, and he was a complete dick to her. Walking away from her was an immature move, especially when she cared enough to come and check on him.
Now they were all seated outside, and of course Bonnie was seated across from him with miniature Gilbert to one side of her. He should be listening to his girlfriend and focusing all of his attention on her, but he was too busy listening in on what the make believe hunter was saying.
"How have you been holding up with everything?"
He watched as Bonnie shrugged, clearly uninterested in Jeremy's question. Damon couldn't help but smirk.
"Better than day one that's for sure."
"I reached out a couple times in the beginning, but…"
Bonnie took a sip of her drink, "It's okay, Jer, in the beginning I wasn't in my right mind to talk to anyone."
"Well, you look really great. Beautiful if I'm being honest."
Damon had enough of this. "Little Gilbert, you still screwing everything that walks?"
He saw Bonnie's eyes glance towards him, and felt Elena nudge his leg, but his eyes stayed on Jeremy's.
It was Caroline speaking up that broke their eye contact.
"Okay, so enough with that random awkwardness. Bonnie and I are throwing a charity event in a couple weeks, and I'm so grateful that Matt and Jeremy have already agreed to be in it, but Stefan and Damon, I need you two to be a part of it as well."
Damon's eyes watched as Bonnie looked away from him at the sound of Stefan's voice. "You want to explain that in more detail?"
Between staring at Bonnie and drinking his bourbon, he barely heard Caroline. Just something about bidding on guys for a fun night and something about a calendar.
He zoned back in on Caroline giving Stefan pouty eyes.
"Yeah, I guess I can." Stefan caved that fast.
Damon wondered why they were still tip toeing around each other when all they wanted to do was screw each other's brains out.
"Great." She then looked over at Damon. "What about you, you need to do it too."
He rolled his eyes. "I think I'll pass."
"Elena, can you please convince your boyfriend this is for a good cause."
"Damon, I think it would be fun." Elena touched his hand, and he was a bit shocked to see that Bonnie's eyes followed that movement for a split second. "And if you play your cards right, I'll pick you so you won't get stuck with any of these girls in town. I don't like to share."
Caroline made a weird noise, and Damon would have ignored it, but Elena didn't.
"What was that?"
"Oh nothing."
"No, Caroline, you've been acting weird for the last couple days, if you have something to say then say it."
Damon watched as Bonnie touched Caroline's shoulder, probably trying to play mediator, but he could tell that it wasn't going to work.
"It's funny you say that you don't like to share when you shared two brothers."
Bonnie took a sip of wine, thankful that Stefan mixed the vampire's glasses with blood. She knew there was no point trying to come between her two friends when they were both hot headed right now.
""You want to talk about sharing, Caroline, what about the threesome you, Bonnie, and Stefan plan on having."
The wine immediately came out of Bonnie's nose as she began coughing. Damon looked between everyone, and Stefan looked as confused as ever.
"And why should that bother you?" Caroline was not denying it.
Although, she did pose a good question.
"We are not having a threesome…."Bonnie tried interrupting.
Stefan was the next to speak. "Not that I mind, but it's the first I'm hearing of it."
Damon shot him a death glare to which Stefan ignored.
"That's not what Caroline said upstairs."
Caroline laughed. "And you honestly believed that."
Elena stayed silent, not really knowing how to answer that, and it made Damon wonder something for a moment.
"Stefan, the food is really good." Matt spoke up, as they all glanced at him. He knew the quarterback was trying to keep the peace.
Silence engulfed them all for a moment as they tried to enjoy their meal and the effort that Stefan put into it.
It was Caroline who broke the silence this time. "We just need one more guy now. So if you all know of anyone who wouldn't mind getting bid on and being on a calendar, just let me know."
"What about Klaus?" It was Damon's turn to stick his foot in his mouth. He really didn't know what possessed him to say that, but he kept staring at Bonnie and the revelation of her feeding from Klaus and wanting to do things with him bothered the hell out of him.
"Yeah, maybe Caroline can call him since you guys used to be so close." Elena glared, clearly wanting to have the last word from their little argument.
Caroline was about to retaliate, but Damon cut her off, "I was thinking Bon Bon could do it. If I understand correctly, he's been on our side of town a little more lately."
Earlier, Bonnie had a strange feeling that Damon had an idea about what happened with Klaus, and now with his little snide comment, she was pretty sure of it.
"Since you have everyone's attention Damon, just say what you really want to say." She was tired of him glaring at her all night.
"Why did you do it?"
"Do what?" Stefan asked, to which they ignored him.
"Why did you feed from him?"
"From who?" Stefan again.
"I can't believe you lied to me."
"Lied to you?" Bonnie questioned. "First of all, I didn't lie about anything, second of all what happened that night was clearly none of your business. You asked me a question and I gave you an answer."
"You said you didn't sleep with Klaus. Then I find out you fed from him, and that's damn near the same thing!"
Bonnie stood up because she was way beyond annoyed. "It's really not. I fed from Caroline and Elena, was I sleeping from them?"
She knew Damon was about to say something perverted.
"I fed from Stefan, was I sleeping with him?"
Damon's glass shattered in his hand, which caught everyone off guard a bit. Bonnie forgot the only people who knew about her feeding from Stefan was she, Stefan, and Caroline. Granted, she only drank from his wrist, just like Care and Lena, but Stefan said it would be best not to tell Damon, and she really didn't understand why until now. He looked like he wanted to murder both of them.
"You fed from Stefan?" Both Damon and Elena said in unison, which gained an eye roll from Caroline.
"Unbelievable." Damon added, as he stood up and walked away. Which was very unlike him.
Bonnie didn't even bother to look over at Elena even though she knew her eyes were on her. "Thank you so much for tonight, Stefan. Dinner was amazing. But, I'll see you all later." And then she left the house.
Elena was the next one to leave the table. She stormed inside and made her way upstairs.
Then it was Jeremy and Matt who decided to leave, all the while Matt mumbled under his breath that he didn't get dessert. Jeremy was going originally going to stay at the boarding house, but decided to stay with Matt tonight instead.
Caroline and Stefan remained at the table glancing at each other awkwardly, and then it was Caroline who busted out laughing.
Stefan soon followed.
"Way to clear out a dinner party, Stef."
"Me? You're the one who almost brought out the claws with Elena." He continued to laugh.
"Did you see Damon, I thought he was going to break your neck." She held her stomach cause she just couldn't stop.
"Wouldn't be the first time."
Which they knew would happen if it came out that Bonnie had fed from Stefan, even if it was only minimal.
"Well, dinner was great Stefan. Everything was really nice." Caroline finally calmed down from her giggles. "Sorry we all didn't get to enjoy dessert."
"As long as it could put a smile on your face, that's all the dessert I need."
Caroline blushed immediately.
"Are you ready to talk about us now?"
"Yeah… I think it's time."
He then stood up and held out his hand for hers. She looked up and grabbed it gently, as he pulled her to her feet.
As they began to walk upstairs, Stefan had to add. "About this threesome?"
Caroline couldn't help another outburst of laughter. "When Bonnie's up for it, I'm sure you'll be in for a treat."
It was midnight; four hours after the dinner party fiasco. Damon found Bonnie standing in the cemetery staring at her grandmother's tombstone.
The hours in between resulted in him turning into Stefan, brooding as if there were no tomorrow. He went to the bar for a little while, and when he came back he found Elena in his room reasonably upset. She didn't like that he was concerned over things Bonnie was doing. She understood they were best friends now, and he tried to explain he was just looking out for her. Which resulted in her screaming that Bonnie was an adult and could take care of herself. Damon could have brought up her reaction to things about Stefan tonight, but chose against it.
Instead, he chose to kiss her, because when he and Elena got into an argument they would make up by having sex. And that's what they did tonight. He screwed her into the mattress and she took all of him, screaming that she loved him. She went to sleep immediately after that and he left her, naked with just a sheet wrapped around her frame. Any sane man would never have left her there. They would have enjoyed more rounds but his mind was elsewhere and releasing all that pent up frustration with Elena wasn't fair to her.
His plan was to go talk to Stefan, vent about the thoughts that were plaguing him; thoughts that he didn't think he could keep inside anymore. But that didn't happen because he realized Bonnie wasn't in her room, or in the boarding house for that matter, so he followed her scent.
He wasn't surprised that he followed it all the way to the cemetery.
"I would say it's pretty late to be outside in a graveyard at this time of night, but I'm sure you could hold your own."
Bonnie didn't say anything nor did she look at him, and that affected him more than he realized..
"I'm sorry." He didn't sound smug or sarcastic. Damon was truly apologetic for the way he acted.
Bonnie still chose to ignore him, as she walked up to the tombstone, placed her fingers to her lips, and placed it to the top of the tombstone. She kept her eyes closed for a moment and he knew she was telling her grandmother how much she loved and missed her.
When she finished, she tried walking around him, but he stood in front of her blocking her path.
"I would advise you to get out of my way."
He smirked, "As much as I would love to test your new found vampire strength, I think we should talk."
"Oh, you want to talk now? I thought you wanted to lash out at me over who I may or may not be sleeping with."
Damon took a breath and spoke as calm as possible. "It's Klaus, Bonnie. Klaus Mikaelson. You fed from him…"
friend's wrists and really not that much, but she Then she looked over at Stefan. "Thank you so much for tonight, Stefan. Dinner was amazing, but I think I'm going to cut this night short."
"And so what!" She was clearly still frustrated with him. "Yes, I drank from Klaus. He offered and I accepted it. And you know what? I would do it again in a heartbeat, because clearly now that I'm one of you, I can't just be a normal vampire, no I have to go through gut wrenching cravings with an extreme thirst for blood like I'm some maniac." It was Bonnie who took a breath this time to calm down. "His blood helped me that night, Damon, and I haven't had those cravings since, so you should be grateful that I did it."
He clenched his teeth, knowing she was right, but that didn't change the fact that he didn't want her to have anything to do with Klaus. Aside from the fact that he sired her.
"You know accepting anything from Klaus always comes with a consequence. Plus, you know he only wants one thing."
"Yeah, so what if he does."
He wanted to unhear that. "You would really….? With Klaus?" He couldn't even say it, but his eyes never left hers.
"Regardless if it's Klaus or someone else, it shouldn't be a problem for you."
"Well it is!" He couldn't help but yell.
"Why!"
"Because you're mine!"
The look on her face held confusion and shock, but the silence filled them nonetheless.
Damon knew he shouldn't have said that out loud, but he couldn't hold it in any longer. However, to preserve whatever friendship she still wanted to have of him, he knew he needed to correct himself.
"I am not yours." It came out a bit above a whisper.
"I didn't mean…I meant you're my best friend and…."
"I am not yours, so you can't act like some jealous boyfriend just because you're not happy with who I may be involved with."
"Okay I get it…"
"No, I don't think you do. If you're my friend then be that. Instead of lashing out at me, be my friend and show me the same respect I show you."
"I don't want anything to happen to you." He admitted, which was the partial truth. "Especially after…"
He looked away, not wanting to be captured by her eyes, but her soft hand on his face brought him back to look at her.
"Look, Damon, I know what happened scared you. It scared me too. When I was up on that hill…I don't know, It was a low point for me and I.. I really gave up. But, you saved me. You, Caroline, Stefan, you all…" She paused. "But you… you being who you are to me, you knew exactly what to do, exactly what I needed, and I am so grateful for that. I don't ever want to get that low again.
"I know you worry about me, and I do appreciate that. When you care about someone, Damon, you give it your all, you're protective, concerned, and you'd do anything for that person. So, I'm glad I fall on your short list of people you care about. But, sometimes your protectiveness borders alongside controlling, and you can't keep doing that."
He leaned his face into her touch, never admitting that he loved her palm on his skin.
"I do know that I'm also at fault because I've been allowing it, but you have to be my friend. You have to know that I'm going to be okay, and I'm always going to be there for you. Nothing and no one can change that. You, Caroline, and Elena are my best friends, so be my friend."
When she put her hand down they stared at it each other before he spoke again.
"I'm still number one right?"
She rolled her eyes and let a smile form on her lips. He knew she wasn't going to confirm or deny, but he knew the truth. He was her number one best friend.
"So," Bonnie grabbed her bag off the ground that she had come with. "Now that we've jumped that bridge, why didn't you tell me you were going to propose to Elena? I had to witness ring shopping at the mall."
Even though they could talk about this, he almost wished she was a little unnerved about it. Which was wrong.
"I can explain that."
"I mean I'm happy for you. You and Elena both deserve happiness." He knew Bonnie, and she didn't sound as enthused as she typically would have been with "exciting" news. "When Elena mentioned it the other night that you were thinking about proposing, I guess I just thought you'd tell me first…"
He wanted to tell her that he would have told her, if he truly wanted to propose.
"When I actually plan on doing it you'll be the first to know." He had to say something otherwise he would look like more of an ass than he already did tonight.
The smile didn't quite reach her eyes, but he did his best to ignore it, as they walked on.
"Now, can I ask you a question and you promise not to take my head off?"
She slowed a bit, and turned to look at him. "Depends on the question."
"Why have you gone to everyone else but me?"
He could tell that his question threw her off guard, but she knew exactly what he was talking about.
"You want honesty."
"Is it going to bruise my ego?"
"I doubt that's possible."
He nodded, bracing himself for her answer.
"Because I don't know if I'd be able to stop if it were you."
Well, he wasn't expecting that, and she was gone before he could give her any type of response. Vampire speed was one thing she had mastered very well.
His first instinct was to follow her and ask her to explain, but he felt like it would put her in an awkward position and wherever his head was at the moment, it was probably best not to open that can of worms right now.
One thing for sure was the next time Bonnie needed to feed, it would be from him.
She couldn't sleep. After her talk with Damon, Bonnie came back to the boarding house, took a shower and settled in bed for the remainder of the night. She was hoping that sleep would immediately take over, but it didn't. Her mind was running a mile a minute and all she could think about was how she told Damon she wouldn't be able to stop if she took his blood.
As much as she tried to deny it to herself, Caroline was right, she did have a small crush on Damon. But, it was harmless. A crush she knew would never go anywhere, and not just because he was in love with Elena and would be proposing to her soon, but because the friendship she had with him was so strong, she never wanted to lose that. Damon was one of the most important people in her life, and even though she had to set him straight at times, she really cared deeply for him.
And that speech that she gave him tonight, she had to get it off of her chest, but at the end of the day she also said it to clarify that he was her friend. And maybe she needed to hear that more than him. Because they were friends and that's all they would ever be to each other, and she was okay with that.
Yeah, she really needed to get some sleep. Maybe, she could make herself some chamomile tea. Would that even work on her now? It's so crazy, because she never thought in a million years she would actually take the plunge and become a vampire. She joked with Caroline once that one day she would become like them and live forever, but no one took her seriously, not even herself.
Although she really did miss being a witch and missed her powers, there were perks of being a vampire. The speed was exhilarating, she was incredibly strong, and for the most part, she was pretty immortal.
"Couldn't sleep?"
Damon's voice caused her to jump. She was so lost in thought, she almost forgot she made her way downstairs and started making her tea.
"You would be correct."
She turned back around to grab a cup, and before she could say anything, Damon was turning her around and sitting her on the counter with vampire speed. Embarrassingly so, it took no time for her legs to open to allow him to step through.
"Damon, what are you doing?" Elena was right upstairs, sleeping in his room.
He looked her up and down, his eyes falling on her lips. "Why wouldn't you have been able to stop?"
She knew what he was referring to, but she would not answer him.
"Damon, you need to go back upstairs to Elena." Her voice was shaky.
"I want you, only you." Damon leaned his forehead against hers, and she closed her eyes for a mere moment.
When she opened her eyes, she tried pushing him away, but for some reason her hands were almost like dead weight.
"Hearing you and Elena earlier really proved that you wanted me." She wasn't going to mention it while they were at the cemetery, but when she left dinner and the boardinghouse, she came back to grab a few things and heard them going at it.
"I thought about you the whole time."
"You're disgusting." She pushed at his chest.
His lips were now on her neck. "Say you want me too."
"It's 2:30 in the morning."
"What better time than any, everyone is asleep. They won't hear us."
Bonnie looked at him again, What? "Hear us what?"
"Hear you moan when my mouth is on your pussy."
Her whole body lit up at his words, and then out of nowhere she was back in her bed and on her back before she could comprehend anything.
"Damon, what are you…."
He kissed her lips, stealing her breath. "Tell me you don't want this."
Bonnie couldn't wrap her head around anything right now.
When had Damon's shirt come off? When had her clothes followed. How was she now in a black lace bra and panty set? She was not wearing that before she went to get tea.
"Damon…" she moaned, her voice betraying her.
His lips on her skin made her whole body come alive. It was euphoric. She could feel the veins form under her eyes, as he kissed and nipped down her body.
When he got to the sweet spot between her thighs, the thought crossed Bonnie's mind on if she could really go there with Damon. He was in a relationship with Elena, and….
"I'm going to wipe that hybrid from every part of you. I want my blood inside of you. Only mine. You belong to me. I belong to you. You're mine, Bonnie Bennett, and I'm yours."
And then he devoured her pussy like it was his last meal.
Bonnie couldn't help the moan that escaped her lips. It was loud, and she couldn't control it. The orgasm came quick as he lapped her up, making sure all of her juices were flowing down his throat.
He then bit down on the inside her of her thigh, causing her second orgasm to flow through her. It was so intense she didn't know if she could take it anymore.
"Damon!" She couldn't be quiet even if she tried.
"Say you're mine." He was back on top of her now, staring into her eyes while two of his fingers made their way inside of her snatch, driving her to madness.
"Damon, please…" She needed something else inside of her.
"Say it." He delved even deeper.
"I'm yours." She said trying to catch her breath.
"Tell me you want me."
"I want you." She admitted, on the brink of another orgasm.
He took his fingers out of her and stuck them in his mouth.
"Baby, the way you taste… damn…I could live off of you forever."
The way he was looking at her made her blush. Next thing she knew, he was positioning himself right at her entrance.
Bonnie's eyes shot open right before he was about to enter her. She immediately sat up in bed and looked around.
All of it had been a dream. And yet, it felt so real.
She had never even left the room to get her tea. Not that she apparently needed it.
Well damn, she immediately thought as she laid back down, knowing sleep was the furthest thing from her mind tonight.
Her phone vibrated letting her know someone had sent a text message.
Unknown number- When you're ready to unblock my number and crave a little more from the other night, I'll be waiting…..
Of course Klaus would figure out that she blocked him and find a way to reach out to her at this exact moment.
Because her life wasn't complicated enough.
What Bonnie didn't know was that at the exact moment she woke in bed, Damon was doing the exact same thing a few doors down.
A/N: Thank you all for reading this chapter. I know it was super long and more of a filler than anything. This chapter took a lot longer to write and even longer to edit. We got to dive into more of Damon's thoughts this chapter and his conflicting feelings for Bonnie. And even feelings that Bonnie is starting to admit herself. I enjoyed writing the friendship with Bonnie and Caroline, and as you all can probably see, this story will not be as Elena friendly. She'll have some redeeming moments, but not right now. And I know there wasn't any real klonnie in this chapter, but we'll see more of them as time goes on. Again, this story will continue to have drama and angst, but I just want to have fun with it.
The next chapter will have the boy toy auction, and if anyone on here has seen One Tree Hill then you'll know what I'm referring to.
Also, the beginning quote that defined a soulmate was from Dawson's Creek.
I hope you decide to stay on this ride with me and if you can review it would be greatly appreciated.
Until next time!
