Chapter 3 Getting to Know Another Being
A new day has dawned. Wall-e was awakened by the beeping sounds coming from his pacemaker. There was only one flashing red bar on the screen. Wall-e struggled to open his eyes covered behind his goggles. He wanted to sleep some more, but he knew full well that he couldn't ignore the low battery warning of his only source keeping his heart alive. He struggled to lift himself up by supporting himself with his hands. He felt terrible but that was only because of the low level. He didn't notice that he was propping his hand near the edge of the bed and after a while his hand slipped , and he fell face down on the metal floor.
''Ehhhhh ... this day will be hard '' - he muttered to himself with his face to the floor.
After a while he finally managed to get up. Although it was dark inside, Wall-e's goggles were suitable for seeing when it is dark. He easily found the lever and while they were opening, Wall-e was putting on his suit and boots. He stepped outside in his half-zippered suit and headed for the roof of the truck. There stood a generator connected to the solar panels that were also there, which provided energy from the sun. Wall-e sat down opposite the generator, taking the cable out of his pocket and inserting one end into the generator, and the other into the hole in the pacemaker. For a moment he felt a strange sensation like paralysis, and then the battery level began to rise. While charging, his head was slightly tilted back and he peeled himself with his hands.
His pacemaker charged in a matter of minutes. After hearing the distinctive beeping, which was a sign that the battery is fully charged, Wall-e disconnected the cable and put it in his pocket. After recharging Wall-e was fully awake and ready for a full day's work. After he zipped up his jumpsuit, he started down the roof slowly as it was a bit steep.
He went inside and saw Hal chasing his tail. This made Wall-e laugh and Hal, hearing it, ran closer to him. Wall-e knelt down and stroked his head.
''I see you're feeling better'' - he said, to which Hal started barking while wagging his tail.
Wall-e lifted Hal's paw slightly and began to untie the bandage. The wound seemed to have healed fairly well, but he decided Hal should stay home today. He walked over to his belongings and began to put on his belt and bag. Fully ready, he sighed relaxed and wanted to go, but suddenly inadvertently pushed off with his foot Hal, whom he didn't notice. He screamed frightened thinking that he had done him some harm. Fortunately, nothing happened and Wall-e breathed a sigh of relief. He then points to Hal.
''Today you stay. It's better not to overwork your paw yet." - he said slightly sternly so that Hal would understand.
It was apparent that he understood something there, because when Wall-e pointed with his hand to the inside, the little dog immediately went. Satisfied, Wall-e took his shovel and began to go to work.
He was in another place scraping garbage from the piles and throwing it into garbage compactor. He did it so fast that he could produce up to 10 cubes in a minute . Wall-e at times came across interesting things that interested him or could be useful to him. One of the things he came across was a part of the garment with a thin belt and two large cups. He looked at it with such curiosity that he put it on his eyes, completely covering his goggles. It was strange because, all in all, why would he even put it on ? He took it off and put it in his bag.
For some time he came across other items, which he placed in the shoulder bag. At the top of the garbage, he found his car keys, and when he pressed the button, there was a chirp coming from nowhere. Another object was a racket with a ball attached to it. Wall-e tried to bounce it, but he held it the wrong way and after a few seconds it started hitting him in the face. Still, he decided to take it. He also found a small dark blue box with a ring inside (he threw the ring away by taking the box), gold cup, and another metal box (a lighter ).
More and more cubes were laid to form the lower structure of the tower (a huge square). For Wall-e it was going smoothly even though the hours passed. Among the garbage, he found a fire extinguisher filled with foam. This item knocked him off his feet rather quickly when he pressed the trigger lever and seemed to pull him to the ground. Wall-e finally got fed up and angrily threw it away so he wouldn't have to look at it.
The work went quite smoothly and cube after cube was laid out for the rest of the day until it began to get dark. Wall-e decided to finish the job the next day.
It was morning. This time it was Hal who woke Wall-e a loud barking. Wall-e slept longer than usual which almost never happened. Wall - e didn't know why but had a very interesting dream. It was very rare that he had any dreams. He dreamed of a cloudless sky filled with twinkling stars and the ground covered with a lot of greenery and additionally clean without garbage. When the dream was interrupted, Wall - e was disappointed that he couldn't see more and was convinced it was for real until he woke up. He didn't know why he had such a dream right now until he remembered that on one of the video holograms there was a part of the earth where there were a lot of green things that he didn't really know about and maybe that's why he dreamed about it now? He put this thought aside and first went outside as usual to recharge the pacemaker, and then began to prepare to leave.
It was already afternoon. For several hours Wall-e found nothing of interest until he came across a large refrigerator. He tried to move it as well as open it, but nothing worked. He decided that he would try to cut it with his laser hidden in his goggles. After a while both vertical parts fell off, and Wall-e looked with strong curiosity at the thing in front of him . There was ... a small green plant ? Wall-e looked with such concentration at the plant. It looked like one of the ones he had seen in his dream.
He touched his finger lightly and immediately knew that it might not only be alive since it was growing in the ground, but also delicate. Using a shovel, he gently pushed back some soil in a circle, then gently grabbed a small plant with both hands along with a handful of soil. When he looked at it like that, he wondered.
''Hmm, I should protect it with something? Only what can I…?''
''Woh Woh'' - barked Hal while holding something in his muzzle
Wall-e was slightly startled at the sound of barking and looked at Hal. Hal held in his mouth some object, which he dropped in front of Wall - e. That object was an old shoe. After looking at it, he said it was perfect and stroked Hal's head in gratitude. He walked over to his bag lying in the shade and put the plant inside.
At one point when he was about to return to continue his work, he noticed something very strange. Some red dots in a horizontal line began to fly off the tall skyscrapers. They began to crawl along the ground toward Wall - e, at which he was surprised and tried to block them with a shovel. He was even more surprised when they passed through him and he felt nothing . He quickly turned around and saw that all the lights were headed in the same direction. He decided that he would check what it was . He put his bag over his shoulder and tucked his shovel behind him.
As he ran like this, suddenly the ground began to rumble and shake forcing him to stand for a moment. He resumed running, seeing that some six feet from his position there was dust rising. After a few minutes he reached the edge of the cliff. To his eyes appeared a spaceship. Wall-e had never seen anything here like this. It was too high for him to get down and he had to watch everything from above. He saw the part come out and start illuminating the area in front with a blue light (scanner). Wall-e leaned against the boulder next to, which was a little larger than him. After a moment, he saw the rectangular part open and something resembling a cylindrical capsule slide out. One mechanical hand placed the capsule on the ground, and the other began to enter the activation code. After a few seconds, the capsule opened and air vapor came out from inside. It was obvious that something, or rather someone, was inside. Wall-e zoomed in on his goggles and saw that he was there... GIRL?
The person inside woke up and started to come out of the capsule. When she was outside the capsule, suddenly the capsule began to change shape and fit her suit. Wall-e's eyes widened at the sight of the beautiful young girl.
''OOOOhhhhhhhhh'' - he mumbled while looking at her with wide-open eyes and parted lips
She looks like a girl in her 20s. She was a slim athletic person with long beautiful white hair covering almost her entire back and fringe. She was wearing a white clean suit with black accessories and the upper part as well as her back had parts, which transformed from a capsule. On her hips she had a belt where a sealed container was permanently attached on the left and a gun on the right and also she had a thick black band on her head. Wall-e looking at her felt something he had never felt in his life . He fell in love with her.
The girl was looking to the sides and suddenly from under her neck, a little closer to her chest, a blue light began to shine with which she began to scan part of the area.
Wall-e saw from a far that she was using the same blue light.
After a few minutes, the spaceship began to take off. The girl was far away so the blast of the engines could not reach her. She continued to scan for a while until she looked up to see that the spaceship had departed. Her headband suddenly turned into a black visor covering half of her face. She decided to move around a bit. Smiling she began to float in the air using her boots and additional smaller engines on her back with side wings attached.
'' Oh...she can fly? ''- asked surprised
Wall-e was impressed by her great flying skills. At times, when she accelerated, sometimes flying past Walla - e dusted him a little and he had to wipe his goggles because of it, but he didn't mind. She didn't see him because he was hiding behind a boulder the whole time. Wall - e leaned back a bit when she stopped a few feet away from him while remaining in the air with her back to him. He propped himself up against the side of the boulder with his left hand but inadvertently knocked down a pebble, and she quickly drew her pistol and shot at the boulder, where Wall-e was hiding.
After the dust settled, it was now possible to see a huge hole in the middle. For a moment, the girl looks in the direction in which she fired, before hid her weapon and returning to what she was doing before. Wall-e wasn't hurt, but he was completely scared. Huddled behind a piece of boulder, he trembled with fear. During the shot, he had to cover his mouth with his hands to keep from screaming. He didn't expect her to do it at all, and it scared him a lot.
It took some time for Wall-e to calm down completely. They were in a part of the city surrounded by old ruined buildings. He followed her watching as she scanned every place she encountered with her scanner. He didn't get too close to her and hid and walked as quietly as possible so she wouldn't hear him creeping around. Although he wanted to know her, but after this unexpected shot he was not sure how he should do it. He decided that for now he would follow her until he figured something out.
After a few minutes they were in a place , where tires were everywhere. Wall - e hid behind several with his hood up. He stared like that for a moment until he noticed Hal walking a few steps forward.
''Psst Hal ... Hal - called out quietly getting his attention ''Come to me. Don't go there''
Hal, however, didn't listen and began to run towards her.
''Oh nooo'' he said quietly terrified by what was about to happen
The girl heard Hal and instantly turned around firing a shot. Wall-e shouted terrified covering his mouth quickly.
Fortunately, the shot fell in front of Hal and didn't do him any harm other than dusting his fur. Hal shook off the dust, and the girl upon seeing him quickly hid her gun and looked surprised to see the little dog. She extended her hand to him, and he cuddled up to her, showing that he wanted to be petted. She began to lightly stroke Hal on the head , and he waved his tail showing that he was happy.
Wall-e watched everything from his hiding place. He was relieved when nothing happened to his friend , but also surprised that they liked each other so quickly. At one point, when the girl held him in her arms, he licked her face causing tickles, which made her laugh. Wall-e laughed too which was a big mistake. Wall-e also laughed, and that was a big mistake. She immediately took out a gun with her free hand and started firing in his direction. Wall-e quickly fled his hiding place and tried to take cover behind more piles of tires, but these also exploded. Terrified, he tried to run to the last. But before this one was also destroyed, Wall-e noticed behind him between the tires a gap through which he could easily squeeze. After passing, he started to run.
The girl saw that he passed between the tires. Without thinking, she put Hal on the ground and started chasing him.
''Hey, stop right there!'' - she shouted to the fleeing person
Wall-e found some building that still had reasonably stable walls and ran inside through an opening that used to be a door.
Meanwhile, in the air, the girl searched the area.
''You will not escape! I will find you!'' - she shouted starting to scan still holding the gun in her hand.
After a moment of scanning she found traces leading to the building, where Wall-e was hiding. Hal was right behind her.
Wall-e was hiding behind one of the side walls on the upper floor. He leaned out from time to time checking to see if she had followed him. Through one of the lower windows, he noticed that she was passing by and going inside. He knew that if she started to climb the stairs then she would see him, and her facial expression spoke for itself that she was going to do something to him. He looked to his right and saw that there was an opening in the window where he could see the tile he thought he could climb down. However, the problem was because part of the upper floor had fallen off and he couldn't just walk across. He noticed that a piece of plank was placed on both sides and thus he could walk to the other side without jumping. He waited for the moment when she walked a little farther without being able to see him, and began to slowly walk the plank.
Hal also arrived at the building and immediately upon seeing Wall-e, he started barking.
"Shhhhh, Hal quiet." – Wall–e spoke to him in a lower voice, standing and gesturing with his hands for him to stop making noise '' Stop barkkkiiiing (slamming board ) …. AAAAAAHH! (CRASH!) ...Ouch! '' - Wall-e screamed as he fell
Wall-e hadn't noticed earlier that the plank he was walking on was cracked. He fell to the floor, hitting his side first and then rolling over onto his back. It was a hard landing and there was dust that made him cough. His head hurt and he was scratched in some places, but he didn't worry too much about it. He quickly turned his bag checking the plant and it didn't suffer at all with the fall, which relieved Wall-e. He tried to raise himself from a lying position to a sitting position (his shoulder bag was lying behind his back), but was prevented from doing so by the heavy debris lying on his lower body which weighed him down so much that he could not move freely.
He tried to push away the debris but suddenly the shadow surprised him. He gave his head up so fast that not only did he hit the wall, but his hood fell off. In front of him stood a girl pointing a gun at him. He was terrified of the situation he found himself in. He couldn't do anything, and he was still a little dazed from the fall. The girl had anger on her face, but inwardly she was surprised to see a living man and in such scruffy clothing. She supposed that he was a garbage man.
''Who are you and why have you been following me? '' Wall-e was so frightened he couldn't get a word out. ''Answer !'' - she yelled at him, which made him flinch
Just then Hal appeared next door. He barked so that he drew their attention, and then jumped in front of Wall–e.
''Is this your dog?'' - she asked to which he slightly nodded his head still frightened
Wall-e looking at her noticed that just like him she had a name on her suit . There you could see the name EVE. They both looked at each other in that Eve more with anger while Wall-e more curious though still terrified. At one point Eve activated her scanner and started scanning him. Wall -e was surprised for a moment to see the blue light directed at him but didn't move. There were three single beeps and then one long one after which the scanner shut down. Then she put down the gun.
''Don't follow me'' - she said and started to walk away.
Wall-e had no idea what she was looking for, but it was clearly not about him.
''She looked at me'' - he said to himself feeling his heart beating faster. His battery showed seven bars, so he still had plenty of time.
He relaxed knowing that she didn't kill him. He leaned against the bag lying behind him, but he couldn't damage its contents because the bag was wide and thick enough to protect the items from damage. Hal stayed on it until Wall-e tried to get up. He brushed aside the stones lying on top of him and stood up slowly. He shook off the dust and wiped his slightly dusty goggles. His legs were a little sore but after a while he was fine. He cautiously went outside looking around . The girl was nowhere to be seen despite he looking around in all directions and even trying to spot the blue light. He got sad about it, which even Hal noticed when Wall-e lowered his head down.
After a few minutes Hal started barking which got his attention. He ran around Wall-e and then in some direction. Wall -e started running after him putting on his hood beforehand. He suspected Hal might have noticed her so he decided to go even though she had told earlier to leave her alone.
He found her in an abandoned supermarket watching a windmill. He was hiding upstairs on the escalator (long inoperative). He took a step forward but inadvertently stepped on some packaging, which he didn't notice, and this sound drew her attention. When she looked over her shoulder at Wall - e , he jumped up thinking that she was going to try to shoot him again. The road was blocked by shopping carts behind him, which he hit and fell inadvertently into one of them. The first one that Wall - e fell into rolled down, and a whole other bunch followed. He could not stop and after a while he bumped into a sliding door placed two feet away. On impact he fell out of the shopping cart , and the others crushed him.
'' Oouch!'' - he groaned in pain
Eve just sighed turning her head when the last of the shopping carts opened the door
It was night
Wall-e needed time to get out. He was currently on the water tower watching as the girl flying illuminated areas of the city with bright blue light from the scanner. He held on to the railings to keep from falling and wondered what she was looking for. At one point she turned off the scanner and did a few turns for a while before standing on ground. Her suit began to glow, and a capsule began to form around her, in which she fell asleep. Wall-e seeing this took the opportunity and tried to slowly descend from the tower. It was hard to go down. Suddenly his leg slipped and he began to fall, hitting his body, especially his head on the metal stairs and the metal structure of the leaning water tower. The fall on the pile of garbage cushioned the fall and Wall-e apart from a few bruises was only slightly sore. He slowly approached her, not sure if he had accidentally woken her up with this falling as well as shouting. Slowly he approached her more closely looking at the capsule. It looked like it was made only to give the bearer a comfortable night's sleep due to the small amount of protective metal around. Through the glass tiles on top , Wall - e could see the girl sleeping peacefully. This made Wall-e even more unable to stop looking at her.
Wall-e opened his eyes and didn't know why he was outside. He was next to the pile, covered with an old cloth. He finally remembered why he was in this place. He looked around, but did not see the capsule anywhere. He was stretching himself out a bit because of the very uncomfortable position he slept in. He looked up and saw that the sun was almost above him which could mean that it was afternoon. Wall -e was surprised that he slept so long.
''(CRASH)!''
This sound caused Wall-e to be pulled out of his thoughts. He walked several streets until he found a girl near the shipwrecks. She looked nervous and frustrated at the same time. When she flew past one of the ships like this, she didn't notice that the magnesium worked and moved over her feeling her metal suit parts. She was caught in it and unfortunately dropping her gun. Wall-e was alarmed when he saw this. He saw that she tried to break free, but the magnesium held her very tightly, and although she managed to break away for a while, she was again attached. Wall -e decided to help her somehow.
Eve, seeing Wall–e, called out to him: ''Hey, you stranger !''
Wall-e heard her and took off his hood to see her better from below.
''Are you talking to me?'' - he asked loud enough for her to hear him
''And do you see anyone else here?! - she asked, slowly losing her patience
''Oh yeah, sorry... What happened? ''
''The damn thing is holding me so tightly that I can't get free, and my gun fell out somewhere. Can you help me? ''
''Of course ... " he replied with a smile that he could help her , but suddenly interrupted his speech realizing something '' Just that... this ship is too high, and I don't see anything here...''
''JUST FIND MY GUN!'' - she shouted loudly at him
''Okay, okay, easy, I'm already looking for it ''
He started looking everywhere, especially on the side where Eve had been recently. After about 20 minutes, he noticed something shiny on the ground. He ran up and lifted the object into his hands. Of course, that item was Eve's gun. It was a bit like a rifle with a sight and an extra hand rest. Wall-e was impressed by the weapon, which he held for the first time in his life. Without delaying any longer, he ran over to where Eve was and exclaimed:
''I got it''
''Great. Now shoot''
''I have shoot ? - Wall-e wasn't sure now ''But … I've never shot, what if I ...
''JUST SHOOT! SET THE SIGHT ON THE METAL PART AND SHOOT USING THE TRIGGER!''
Wall-e didn't say anything else, just tried to get the sight perfectly aligned and held the gun with both hands. After a few seconds, he aimed perfectly at the target and kept his index finger on the trigger.
'' Watch out! ''
Wall - e warned her before he fired the shot. The energy bullet hit the magnesium perfectly and Eve was free. Wall - e smiled that he managed to free her, but was surprised when she quickly snatched the gun from his hands and began firing many bullets toward the ship. Many parts flew everywhere, and Wall - e at the last moment managed to hide before any of them could hit or injure him. The tankers under the weight of this shot ship began to topple over one by one, until the last one fell exploding. Eve stood staring at the mess she had created. Deciding that it was now safe, Wall - e emerged from his hiding place and slowly approached her. He whistled a little quieter to the rhythm of his favorite song every few steps approaching from the side. He was almost close to her when...
''Why are you sneaking around ?'' - she said too loudly suddenly turning towards him
''AAHH!'' - Wall -e jumped back rolling over and quickly covering himself with his hands thinking that she would do something to him.
''Hey, hey, easy. I won't hurt you'' - she said seeing how he was shaking with fear '' Actually I should thank you. If it wasn't for your help I would probably be stuck there forever.''
Wall-e, hearing what she said, stopped shaking and got up from the ground.
"Oh well...I'm glad I could help," - he replied holding his hands back smiling, to which she also smiled.
''What is your directive?'' - she asked '' You seem like someone who does a pretty dirty job'' - she stated looking at his appearance.
''Ohh...uhh… actually... I'm a garbage man. I clear areas covered with garbage and stack them into towers.''
Eve looked with a slightly odd expression on her face. Wall-e had the impression that she probably didn't really understand what he was talking about. He looked around for a few seconds until he noticed a garbage compactor standing a little less than a foot from their position. Wall-e had the idea that he could show it to her. He pulled out his shovel hooked at the back and approached the pile of garbage. He started by throwing the trash into the machine a few times, and then started it. It could be heard that the machine could barely run due to a fair amount of rust and loud creaking. After a while, a cube popped out, which fell (the reason could be damp garbage).
''...Ta-da! '' - said Wall - e pointing with his hands to the cube.
''Ohh '' - Eve was even impressed.
Wall-e approached her as he stowed the shovel and tried to ask the same question.
''What is your di… direc.. tive?''
''My directive? '' - She asked pointing at herself to which Wall-e nodded '' That's classified '' - he replied quickly turning away from him clearly not wanting to say it.
''Oh... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to...'' - he said, keeping his hands close to his elbows, staring at the floor with his head bowed.
Eve, seeing his despondency (or at least that's what she thought looking at his mouth), decided to change the conversation topic.
''What's your name?'' - she asked turning to him.
''My name?'' - he asked to which she nodded. '' I'm W...Wall….Waallll - eeee''
Wall-e had difficulty saying his name. Probably because he did not pronounce it for a very long time.
''Wall – e?''
Wall-e hearing her harmonious voice at the pronunciation of his name felt warm especially when she repeated.
''Waalll–eee'' - She giggled when she said like Wall–e. '' You have an interesting name ''. Wall-e smiled at this. ''I am Eve ''- She said pointing to -e noticed her name engraved on the suit. It also had the name " Lieutenant" added underneath.
'' Eeeeeeee…..''- he tried to say her name.
''Eve '' she repeated more clearly
''Eeeeeaaaaaaa?''
Eve hearing that he was wrong all the time decided to say it more slowly: '' Eeevvveee''
Wall-e tried now to say her name without mistakes: '' Eeeeee...vvvveeeeeee ''
Eve giggled at his slow utterance of her name. She had to admit that he was adorable.
''Eve'' he said again. It sounded more correct now.
Eve was laughing all the time and her laughter made him smile too. Eve was amused by the conversation with him, even when you could hear at some points his slightly childish voice. She couldn't remember anyone ever making her laugh like that.
At one point Wall-e felt the wind start to pick up, and unfortunately he knew what that meant. He started looking in all directions with concern until he looked from behind Eve. Less than a mile from their position, a sandstorm began to gather.
''Oh no! Eve, we have to go! '' - he shouted as he tried to grab her hand.
''Don't touch me! '' - she shouted at him, taking a step back and quickly drawing her gun aiming at him.
''No , no .. Eve ! Sandstorm behind you! ''
But before she could see what he meant, the storm had already hit them. The sand obstructed her field of vision and now she couldn't see anything even though she put on a viewfinder.
''WALL – E!'' - she tries to call him thinking he is somewhere near her '' WALL – E ! ''
She had no idea what to do especially since the only person who could help her had just disappeared. After a while, she felt someone grab her arm.
''EVE!... Don't let go of my hand. We will get out of here!''
Although the return to the truck was difficult due to the poor visibility, Wall-e remembered the way back very well. When they were in front of the door immediately after opening the door they went inside. Hal was with them too. The door closed again, and Wall - e went to the other side of the truck to turn on the lights. Eve brushed off the sand and started coughing. Wall - e after turning on all the colored lights approached her (Now without the hood on).
''Are you all right? '' - he asked worriedly as he heard her cough.
''Y.. yes… ( cough) ... I'm fine
Wall-e felt sorry for her. She had a right to feel this way by virtue of the fact that unlike him, she was not used to this kind of atmospheric phenomena occurring on Earth.
''Where are we?'' - she asked looking around
''This is my home'' - he replied with a smile spreading his hands
''Do you live here?''
''Yes''
Eve looked at him and his house with deep thought. Unlike her quarters on Axiom, which was much larger, clean, spacious, well cared for and equipped with very comfortable furniture and everything else needed for life, Wall - e was the complete opposite here. Unlike her comfortable bed , he had a large mattress covered with various sheets and some kind of blanket. All sorts of questions came to her , especially this one : How old was he exactly since life on Earth had not existed for a long time? It was hard to know his age although Eve guessed that he might be as old as she was or at least that's what she thought.
She decided to change the topic when she looked at all the things lying on the shelves.
''Where did you get all these things? '' - she asked as she approached him
''I found in the garbage while doing my job and collected them here.''
''Mhm… Amazing '' she said actually to herself while looking at each shelf
She noticed Hal lying peacefully in the lair. She smiled at the sight and wanted to stroke him, but she was unexpectedly surprised by the sound behind her, which made her quickly take out her gun and aim at the source of the sound.
Wall-e seeing this ran up to her: '' Eve, Eve calmly. It's just a fish. ''
However, Eve didn't listen and all the time aimed at the fish hanging on the wall, which was singing and waving its tail.
''No, no Eve wait'' - he said standing in front of her and slowly lowering her gun trying to convince her that she was in no danger '' It won't hurt you, I promise. Please hide it," Wall-e begged her
Eve looked at him. Eventually she was convinced by his words and hid her gun. Wall - e was relieved when he managed to stop her from blowing up any of his things.
''Oh, good'' - he breathed a sigh of relief and instantly said with a smile on his face : '' There are so many things, I want to show you. Wait a second.''
Wall-e searches the shelves and pulls out an egg whisk. He demonstrates its operation by turning the side crank (he does it upside down). He passed on to her to try it herself while he he started looking for something else. Eve started to turn the crank, but she started to do it too fast and after a while the top part broke off hitting the ceiling causing a noise.
''What was that?'' - asked Wall-e, who also heard it
''Ummm… nothing. Nothing at all'' – she replied quickly hiding the whisk on one of the shelves so that Wall-e would not notice.
''See here'' - he said showing her a sheet of bubble wrap and starting to puncture the banks a few times. It sounded fun.
''Try it '' he offered her.
As she began to pierce one then another, a giggle came out of her. She enjoyed it very much. When Wall -e turned around looking for the next thing, Eve began to pierce all the banks in seconds with quick movements. They were all punctured before Wall - e showed her the light bulb. When she touched it then the light bulb started light.
''Ohh ''- surprised, he took the light bulb from her. He shook it slightly and tapped, but nothing happened. He handed it back to her and it lit up again.
''How do you do it? '' - he asked curiously
''I don't know ''
Eve had no idea why this was happening. It was possible that her suit could emit energy, which affected things touched by her.
Wall-e shrugged and handed over another item, an unsolved Rubik's Cube. He disappear from her view literally for a few seconds to take the cassette from the toaster. When he returned, he saw that all the colors had been laid out. He watched with such surprise that he unknowingly handed Eve the tape while he watched the Rubik's cube .
''Oops '' Wall-e looked at her when she said something.
''Aaaah! My tape!'' - he shouted panicking while holding onto his head
''Oh my, I'm… I'm so sorry ''
Eve tried to apologize to him but Wall - e was so focused on checking the tape that he didn't listen to her. He ran to the VCR and after inserting the cassette, waited impatiently for the image to appear. To his relief the recording wasn't damaged. Eve moved closer to get a better look at what was flying on the screen. She even liked the music being played, too, and kept looking at the screen until Wall-e came up with an interesting idea. He took a lid from the shelf and began to hummed and dance. Eve turned to him after hearing him hum. At the sight of his dance, she smiled and began to giggle. It looked so funny and even more so , when he started a little faster.
After five minutes Wall -e suddenly felt dizzy even though he had only made a few turns. Eve worried when he lowered the lid and leaned against the shelves . Also Hal was worried.
''Hey, are you ok?
Suddenly there was a loud beeping sound, which startled Eve ''What are those sounds ? Did you… ?''
Unfortunately, Wall-e knew exactly what it was. Completely forgot to check the battery level (even though he had goggles) and did a serious stupid thing by not charging himself today. He saw on his goggles that the level was red, and Eve saw that something inside Wall - e suit was glowing red. The problem, however, was that Wall - e couldn't use the generator because the storm was still raging outside. He had to use an emergency source if he wanted to survive. Propping himself up he started to approach to the buttons to find a shelf with the necessary equipment.
''Is everything okay?'' - she asked worriedly seeing that he couldn't stand up straight.
''Yes , yes… It's nothing …. I just ... I need to recharge'' - he said in a tired voice while keeping his head bowed
''Wait, what?! Recharge?'' she was surprised , not understanding how person needs to recharge.
Wall-e activated the shelves and the rows of shelves began to rotate. Eve quickly took out her gun thinking that something bad was going on, but then she hid it when she saw that Wall-e grabbed two cables and approached the batteries standing to the side. He sits down leaning with his back against the wall (previously pulling down his bag and putting it somewhere off to the side) and began to unzip his suit until all his pacemaker was visible. Eve was very surprised by the strange thing on his torso. Clearly displayed was a red bar, which displayed in a beeping rhythm.
Wall-e first attracted to himself one of the batteries. Unfortunately, he had problems because his strength also weakened and one of the cables fell out of his hand. Eve, seeing that he had minor problems, decided to help him.
''Let me help you'' - she offered with a slight smile as she picked up the cable he had dropped. '' In this way I want to repay you for releasing me from this trap earlier''.
Wall-e stared at her, and after a few seconds, smiled and nodded his agreement. Eve pulled the battery close to him as Wall - e finished pulling out the two metal rods hidden in the pacemaker.
'' It have to be first ... inserted these two ends to the battery….and then these two ends to me '' He showed the two ends Eve held while he held the other two ends.
''But… it won't hurt you? - she asked worried thinking she could kill him.
''No , no ….. Don't worry…. I have done it many times.''
''All right ''
While Eve held one end of the cable in each hand, Wall -e began placing the other two into the battery.
''Do this, with these two cables '' - said Wall-e, tapping his almost clenched hands together.
''But, for what ? ''
''If there are sparks ... it means that the battery has power.''
Eve did so and indeed sparks appeared.
''Alright ... Now connect them to me…. Only ...don't be scared when the load is visible…. In my case, this is completely normal '' - warned her Wall-e to which she nodded her head.
She managed to attach the cables without any problems. She watched with interest as blue sparks appeared for a moment and more yellow bars began to appear on his pacemaker. Wall-e's head was tilted back and his eyes were closed. After less than a minute the pacemaker was fully charged, and Wall-e began to rise.
''You feel better'' - she asked
''Yes, much better. Thank you very much for your help'' he said leaning in with a smile, and she smiled and put her hand on his shoulder saying: ''I'm glad you're okay.''
After a while Wall -e disconnected the cables from himself and the battery and fastened the suit. Now he could easily hold the battery in one hand and the cables in the other. However, he had to be careful not to touch the metal parts otherwise he would get burned.
When Wall-e was putting the cables back in place, Eve noticed metal boxes lying on one of the shelves. She pulled one out and looked at it. Wall-e watched as she began to open it. He didn't know the properties of the item (the lighter) either, so he walked a little closer. Eve pressed her finger to the ignition mechanism (with her finger first against the metal flint and then against the black button) and a blue-yellow flame appeared.
''Oooooohhh''
''Ohh'' - muttered Eve standing sideways to Wall -ego looking at the flame
Both looked curiously at the burning flame of the lighter. A romantic melody began to play, which Wall - e had recorded a few days ago. Wall – e's gaze moved from the flame to Eve. He could not take his eyes off her when her beautiful blue eyes and face were illuminated by the flame.
''She's so beautiful'' - He said to himself in thought, smiling and blushing slightly. He looked at her left hand. The desire to hold her began to choke him . He slowly extended his right hand to her hand , and she suddenly turned her head toward him ( he hasn't even touched her yet).
''What are you doing?'' - she asked
''Umm nothing, nothing at all'' - He said quickly taking his hand away and pretending to do something on the floor.
Eve was about to add something more, but she saw a different image on the screen. She moved closer and began to watch. While she watched the two people holding hands, Wall -e watched her. He wondered if he still had something in his belongings that he could show her, something she had not yet seen . All of the things he had, the ones already shown were more interesting than anything else. Hal snapped him out of his thoughts by nudging his head against Wall-e's leg.
''Huh… What's the matter?''
Eve turned around after hearing him speak to his little dog. Wall -e was too focused on Hal to notice that Eve was looking at him. When Wall -e saw that on Hal's bed where there was a small bowl there was no food, he knew what he was asking him for. Wall - e knelt before him: ''I guess you want food, do you?'' - he asked smiling patting him lightly on the head, at which he jumped on him knocking him to the floor and licking him on the face. Wall - e was laughing so hard he couldn't stop.
''Hehehehheh …H… heheh…H..Hall.. hehehe .. stop ..hehehhehe ''
Looking from one side to the other while laughing, he saw Eve looking at them. He felt stupid, especially since he hadn't asked her if she was hungry. After he got up and wiped his face he asked: ''Forgive me for not asking earlier but are you perhaps not hungry?''
Eve had completely forgotten about it especially with how focused she was on her directive.
''Umm, actually why not'' - she replies with a smile.
''However, I don't want to worry you , but I don't have a lot of such normal food… And well…'' Wall-e felt foolish to say such things only now, when everyone was hungry.
''Can I see?'' - she asked seeing that he was a little nervous '' If, of course, you don't have ...''
''Umm,yes… yes sure '' - he said stuttering a bit interrupting her and walked over to the shelf.
He pressed the button and after a second on the right side you could see his supplies on the shelves. Wall-e took a wrapped sponge cookie with cream from the shelf and handed the unwrapped one to Hal . Hal started eating right away.
''Do you eat it all? '' - she asked looking on in disbelief and sympathy at the same time.
''Mhm'' he murmured affirmatively nodding his head too '' Unfortunately, there has been a shortage of food here for some time. Sometimes I also have to do something myself to satisfy hunger, although I admit that I got used to it a long time ago.'' – he said rubbing his neck with his hand.
She felt really sorry for him when she heard this. Now she couldn't wonder why he was so terribly thin especially when he had his suit unzipped a bit. She pondered for a moment and remembered that she had some candy bars chocolate in one of her stashes in her suit.
''Have you ever eaten candy bars chocolate ? ''- she asked
''Candy bars? '' Wall-e wondered ''Umm …no, never…. But, why ... huh?''
His answer was interrupted by one of the candy bars thrown in his direction
''Hold one'' - she said when she threw to Wall-e one of the wrapped candy bars, which he caught.
''Oh… Thank you ''
He thanked and they both started unwrapping the candy bars. Wall - e looked at the chocolate-covered wafer and took a small bite. It tasted him so much that he didn't stop chewing the bite until he had to swallow it. The candy bar was a little soft to the touch by that the chocolate has melted from the sun.
''Mmmmmmmhmhmmm… oh man... this is very good ''– Wall-e said with a smile looking at Eve without noticing that he got a little dirty. Eve was careful not to get dirty but when she looked at Wall–e, she laughed lightly.
''Hehehehe, you got a little dirty with chocolate.''
''Really?'' - he asked while rolling up a half-eaten candy bar and touched his lips with his fingers. Indeed he had almost all his mouth in chocolate. He tried to lick off the contents, but Eve continued to laugh seeing that he didn't quite make it. She took out one of the handkerchiefs from her pocket and approached him.
''Will you let me?'' – she asked, showing a moistened handkerchief. Wall-e nodded and stood in front of her letting her wipe his mouth. Wall - e felt more and more warm , as she stood close to him and held his face with one hand. He smelled perfume from her, which was so pleasant that he could not think of anything else. Before he knew it he was immersed in his thoughts for a brief moment.
''I finished'' - she said to him, but he didn't answer. ''Hey!'' - she called to him, patting him on the shoulder
''Uh?... Oops.. sorry'' - he said embarrassed, taking a step back.
Eve was puzzled by the behavior of Wall - e . It looked like he was trying to do something, but he was afraid that he would make some mistake that might affect them. And speaking of that? This question was on Eve's mind from the moment she saw him first time. For a moment he wondered if she should ask him until finally she decided.
''Wall–e! ''
''Yes?''
''Can I ask you a question? ''
''Yeah,sure ''
''Only let me warn you right away that you really don't have to answer them ''
''No, no, you can go ahead ask me.'' he said, "Actually, I also wanted to ask you something"
''Alright '' Without thinking, she asked the question : ''Are there other living persons here on Earth?''
Wall-e had his lips slightly parted, and then closed them. He really hadn't expected a question like this. He never told anyone about it because there was no one to tell anyway. However, he decided to answer her question even if he will be plagued by unpleasant emotions.
''Only… I stayed here''. He said sadly holding his hands together on his shoulders after he put half a candy bar in his right pocket. '' I used to hope that I might find someone alive outside of Hal, but …'' - he continued while leaning against the shelves '' Unfortunately no one survived.''
Wall-e sadly squatted, and Eve did the same feeling sorry for him.
''And those goggles and that device on your chest , did they...?'' Eve stopped asking the question ''Ooh, forgive me. I had to ask one question.''
Hal walked over to them and they didn't notice him. Wall-e stared at her, and then looked down'' (sigh of sadness)… To be honest, I... I don't know why I own them. I was told that supposedly my heart was starting to weaken more and more'' - he said, touching the place where the pacemaker was on his suit ''… and that's probably why I'm wearing it to this day. Today I made a serious mistake by not charging it and because of that I could probably lose my life, although inside I still have a heart because I can feel it beating inside me. I suspect that maybe this pacemaker is also such a power source so that I don't overload my heart.''

Wall-e thought for a moment and nodded that he agreed. Eve touched them gently with her hands and also touched Wall – e 's hair, which was rough possibly due to the fact that it was covered with dirt, but it was clear that he sometimes combed and trimmed them a little. Eve was surprised because she couldn't feel the strap holding the goggles on the back of his head at all.

Eve knew that sooner or later he would ask such a question . She thought for a moment and decided to explain to him the meaning of the word as well as the symbol.

Wall - e listened carefully to what she said '' I am a member of a research team looking for signs of life on Earth , which will help determine whether the Earth is suitable for life.''

Eve didn't really know what he was talking about. She decided to wait, while he went back and forth wondering where he had put it until he finally remembered that he had all the time in his shoulder bag. Before showing it to Eve, he still checked to make sure it was okay. The plant was fortunately still as it was when Wall-e found it.
Eve, meanwhile, was pondering at the same time holding the lighter and lighting it again. She stared at the flame until Wall-e patted her lightly on the shoulder letting her know to look. Eve's eyes flew open at the sight of it.
''Is that...?''
She turned on her scanner. As usual, there were three beeps of blue lights, but the last one beeped a few times with a green light. Eve froze and her viewfinder slid out . Results were displayed , which unequivocally confirmed the presence of plant. Her program took control over body and mind. Strange sounds came from Eve and she lowered the lighter. Wall - e was frightened and did not know what was happening to her. He wanted to step back , but suddenly with a swift movement the plant was snatched from his hands and placed in a special container to her right. Then a capsule activated around Eve, which started the freezing process and fell with a bang to the floor still standing . Along with this all the lights went out and it was completely dark for a few seconds before the capsule began to glow green inside and the green symbol of the plant from Eve's box could be seen on the right side.
''Whoa?'' - That was his only reaction so far.
Unlike the previous appearance of the capsule , the one here now had frosted glass although Wall -e could see the still figure of Eve .
''Eve? ... Eve?!'' - cries out and starts tapping the capsule but it didn't work ''EEVVEEEE !?'' - He panics, shaking the capsule to wake her up '' EE...EEEEEVVVVVVEEEEEE!?''
His screams echoed. Outside, the storm raged all the time, and Wall-e slumped to the floor.
