Chapter 5 Journey into the unknown
Another day has come
Wall-e was totally devastated. He didn't sleep at all , and his eyes were red from tears. He was currently finishing preparing to go to his duties. With slow movements he put the bag on his shoulder and held the shovel in his hand instead of putting it on his back as he usually did. He didn't go to the roof, because his starter was charged earlier.
Setting off to work, he looks at Eve. Now her capsule stood without the lights and was as still as ever. With a shovel held in one hand and his bag on his shoulder with his head down with his goggles on, he went to work. He was followed by Hal.
Wall-e had been on site for 30 minutes, but he was working terribly poorly than usual. Today, he worked slower at both putting garbage in the garbage compactor and stacking cubes. He had arranged only four cubes and had enough. Wall -e sat down with despondency, which Hal sensed sitting on cubes in front of him.
From his left pocket (where he also had his cable) he pulled out a lighter and lit it as Eve did. Wall - e looked at the small flame thinking about Eve and the time when she was conscious. He missed her very much. The question haunted him: Will she ever wake up? This question made him even sadder, but after a while...
''Huh?'' - Wall-e was surprised , when the flame went out from a sudden breeze . Also the ground began to shake until one of the cubes standing on top of the other fell to the ground . ''What the'' Wall-e looked up at the sky and saw a flash. Unfortunately, he knew very well what it meant. ''Oh no!''
Wall-e was running as fast as he could toward his home. After a few minutes he was almost there and then his fears were confirmed . Next to his house stood exactly the same spacecraft, which Eve arrived a week ago.
''EEVVVEEEEE!'' - shouted to her, when a large metal arm began to take her inside.
Wall-e reached the end of the place, when the arm together with Eve hid. Wall-e had no intention of being left alone again and tried to think of something quickly before the rocket took off. He had only a few seconds to think about it and then he got an idea seeing that at the bottom there was a curved ramp reaching almost to the ladder of the spaceship , which could be used to get to the side hatch on the left. Wall -e didn't wait long and started to run, but suddenly heard barking.
''Oh no, backwards, backwards!'' - quickly chased Hal upstairs ''Stay! ''- he ordered and Hal complied and sat down.
The engines began to slowly activate. Wall-e was frightened that he would not make it in time. Without thinking long, he ran as fast as he could and took a long leap grabbing the ladder on the third rung from the end. He managed to climb the ladder up to the hatch on the side and at the last second went inside. The moment the door closed, the spacecraft took off. Inside was shaking very hard and Wall-e had to grab something to keep from hitting the walls. He was holding for metal rods. For several minutes the ship flew out of Earth's orbit, and poor Wall -e had no idea what was happening. His whole body feels a strange sensation, yet he clung to one of the rods and held on the whole time.
After a while it calmed down, and Wall-e breathed a sigh of relief. However, when he let go of the metal pipe, it turned out that gravity was not working and he was now floating in the air like Eve. He didn't control it much and had to try to grab onto something. He flew up and saw a large corridor leading to the right, while on the left there was only a wall, but you could see the Earth through the upper window. From this perspective, the Earth looked completely different and Wall-e was impressed . With all the flying and floating in inappropriate positions, Wall-e couldn't see all the things outside the windows, especially when he was floating upside down more often. He decided that he would first try to find Eve. He grabbed one of the handrails that was attached to the opposite wall and began to fly straight down the long corridor.
At the end was a door that began to open as Wall-e flew closer. He found himself in some kind of room, where on the sides were several other smaller compartments or rather rooms. On the right was a rectangular table with several chairs, a large window and a separate armchair with safety straps, while on the left was also a large window with an armchair but there was something else. Wall-e immediately upon seeing that something familiar was glowing at the end flew closer. It turned out that there were five of the same capsules attached to the wall opposite the armchair. Eve's capsule was by the window, and Wall-e was pleased that he would be able to look at her during the trip. Although he himself did not know, where they were going.
Wall-e flew to the armchair and strapped himself in to not float in the air. The armchair was really comfortable and had special thick belts , which fastened one part over the other, and unfastened by pressing a button on the front . The view outside the window was so amazing that Wall-e could not take his eyes off it. He was happy to have Eve across from him despite the fact that she continued in this state. The windows were on both sides and Wall-e could also see objects from the other window for example the moon. Wall-e sat facing the direction of flight, while Eve as well as the rest were backwards. The next thing they passed was the sun. The spacecraft was not flying too close, but looking at the sun for too long made Wall-e have to cover his eyes. The sun, however, looked very interesting from this perspective. On Wall-e's goggles the battery was still charged.
The next thing Wall-e was impressed by was one of the planets in the solar system called ''Uranus'' , whose rings looked so beautiful that Wall-e couldn't stop looking at them. The spaceship flew closer and flew under the rings, and their glow made them resemble the same color as Eve's eyes. Wall-e watched from below and couldn't stop.
While watching the stars, Wall-e suddenly felt tired. He had no idea how much time had passed although it could have been several hours given that the ship was moving reasonably fast when they passed the black hole next door in maybe 16 minutes. He started to sleep because of the recent poorly slept nights. He yawned heavily and his eyes closed on their own. He didn't notice when he relaxed on the armchair and immediately fell asleep in the slightly reclined armchair. The straps held him perfectly in place from the shoulders down, and his legs were hooked to supports at the bottom of the seat that helped keep him from floating in the air.
