Chapter 9 Medical-Repair ward
Eve had just finished her medical checkup and started to leave the ward after the doctor said she was in great shape and took off her red band. Eve was glad that she was finally leaving this place, especially since her presence here was unnecessary. She was perfectly healthy, not to mention the fact that neither she nor her outfit had any traces indicating that anything had happened. The doctor also did not understand why she was sent here if she was fine, but left the subject because he had to take care of other patients.
The door from the ward opened allowing her to leave and after a moment it closed as she moved on. She was disappointed and also angry that her directive wasn't fulfilled, and everyone thought she was delusional. She didn't know what to do now so she just moved towards her quarter.
After a few minutes she was about to turn right but noticed that some 656 feet away a hovercraft was driving along with combat stewards. Eve didn't know who was there, but it was clear they were heading toward the medical-repair ward because MVR-A was close to the wall. She simply shrugged her shoulders and moved on, thinking it might be another escaper from the ward. She had no idea that the person being taken to the ward was actually Wall-e.
After less than an hour of driving since Wall -e was on the hovercraft, they finally found themselves in front of the door leading to the medical-repair ward.
Wall-e only mumbled something quietly, muttering or moaning the whole way. Because of the headaches, he didn't know where he was or what was going on and, in addition, the dizziness meant he only had his eyes open for a moment before he lost consciousness. Also his chest, or rather his heart, hurt so much that he had his teeth clenched. Wall-e couldn't touch his chest not only because the straps restricted his movements, but he was also so weakened that he only turned his head slightly or moved his fingers. He hoped his pacemaker would stop freaking out because it made his goggles couldn't determine the battery level and all the time the level was jumping up and down or vice versa, and the sparks didn't go away either.
The lights over the door came on and the door swung open. The situation inside was a little quieter than when Eve arrived, but it was still not quiet. The MVR-A drove a little closer, and now it could be seen on all sides, and everyone immediately quieted down at the sight of the stewards. It was clear that everyone was frightened at the sight of them. Neither did the doctors and their assistants expect their presence.
The hovercraft was approached by a doctor (the same one, who took care of Eve earlier) along with an assistant. His assistant tentatively approached and stood a little to the side. While one of the stewards was relaying information to the doctor and the other was standing on the left side of the hovercraft , the assistent walked closer to the right side of the hovercraft and began looking at the new patient. He was surprised when he saw him.
''Oh my... What is that one?'' - whispered surprised
Wall-e groaned quietly moving his head slightly.
''Hey, can you hear me?'' - he asked tilting his head a little to see if he was conscious
Wall-e unfortunately lost consciousness again and the assistant decided to scan him. The results instantly appeared on the datapad screen and the assistant became concerned.
''Doctor!'' - he called out drawing his attention ''Please see the results of the scan I did on this boy,'' - he said handing over the datapad
The doctor after seeing this was also concerned. He didn't know why, but the results showed the presence of a large amount of energy in his chest. The doctor looked at Wall-e and was also surprised that he had different clothing. The beeping sounds made them both look first in different directions and then back at Wall-e. They decided to unzip his suit a bit and unexpectedly ...
''Woaah!? - shouted the doctor and assistant moving back a little when a large number of sparks emerged.
After a while when everything was fine, they both approached and looked at what was under his suit. Everyone else except the stewards were shocked as well as frightened at what had just happened. They didn't understand what was wrong with this boy.
The doctor patted Wall-e on the face to see if he was conscious. Unfortunately Wall-e was unresponsive and the doctor was also worried that he was hot on his face. He didn't have time to ask the stewards about the cause of his poor condition because they had both already left the ward the moment the doctor and assistant saw that the door was closing.
''To the diagnostic room," - the doctor said immediately without waiting any longer.
The hovercraft moved to the hall. All the patients looked puzzled. Each of them wanted to know who this foreign boy was. The moment the door to the diagnostic room closed, even then the patients were still silent.
Meanwhile, in the room, the MVR-A drove up to a vacant bed at the back (a cardiac monitor was also located there). The doctor called in two more assistants to help him. Conrad and Luke together with Jacob (main doctor assistant) waited for the order. Before they were about to move Wall-e onto the bed (the MVR-A straps disappeared when they entered the ward), sparks appeared on his chest. The doctor, after unzipping Wall-e suit more, was very surprised, as were the assistants. The doctor after unzipping Wall-e's suit more, was very surprised, as were the assistants. It turned out that his starter was burnt in some places and the level changed every few minutes when there were beeps and sparks. From the traces, the doctor unequivocally concluded that it was the stewards who brought him to this state.
First, they moved him on a more comfortable bed and began to examine him. The MVR-A left the diagnostic room, and assistants brought the things the doctor asked for. Wall-e's suit, gloves and boots were removed and only his work pants remained on him. Fortunately, the room was heated so he wasn't cold. Wall-e couldn't understand what they were saying when he was barely conscious and feeling worse and worse. The others in the room looked at Wall-e for a while, wondering what was wrong with him, before they had to be moved to separate smaller rooms where there were other patients.
Wall-e's goggles were lifted up when the doctor examined his eyes.
''The pupils of the eyes respond to light albeit a little weakly,"- he said, and Jacob wrote it down on the datapad.
The other assistants brought other necessary equipment and drug drips. In his left arm, Wall-e had an IV connected to a venflon that had been placed earlier, and on his right hand he had a red band( the same one Eve had). The cardiac monitor checking his vital signs showed that his heart was beating irregularly (sometimes fast, sometimes slow), and the doctor was also concerned about his cough. After the coughing stopped for a while, the doctor checked his throat by shining a flashlight and it was clear that it was red and in addition he was quite dehydrated, which meant that he had eaten and drunk very little and that's why he is very thin. As a result, he also had intravenous components administered that his body needed to function. When the assistants brought the equipment , suddenly something bad began to happen to Wall-e. He clenched his teeth tightly and his heart beat fast.
''Damn, we have delayed too long'' - the doctor said loudly – ''Quick, connect the equipment to him!'' - shouted to the two assistants and they turned on the equipment as quickly as possible and connected the cables to Wall-e's pacemaker. The machine showed the amount of energy the thing had in it and added or minimized the amount. In this case, the doctor will perform this procedure for the first time on a person with a pacemaker. This was risky because from the results that the doctor received after scanning Wall-e's chest, it was clear that the pacemaker was his patient's life-sustaining source. If they make a mistake, then he will die.
The procedure took a little more than an hour. The doctor managed to remove unnecessary energy from the pacemaker Wall-e and the battery was now showing five bars. Unfortunately it was not possible to charge its battery to the end but this amount will enough for some time until it will be known what will help charging. Wall-e now deeply asleep after the drugs administered. The doctor was relieved that the procedure went well, and now wondered who he actually was. One of the assistants was browsing the computer for information about a person called Wall-e when he saw the name sewn into the suit. Unfortunately, they never had a patient with this name in their files and also the steward passed on the instruction to try to discover his background from other also sources, at the behest of the Commander Auto , and then send the results.
Four hours later (or rather seven adding the time in which Auto set the time correctly)
It was almost 8 pm and the lights were dimmed. In the waiting room, everyone was beginning to fall asleep and most of the staff went to their quarters to rest. In the diagnostic room, the only patient staying was Wall-e, who still hasn't woken up. He was wearing hospital clothes (his work pants were still underneath) and a thick, soft, white blanket.
His doctor was standing by Wall-e, checking on his patient. Previously, Wall-e's blood was taken for testing, skin samples and another scan was done to make sure that everything would be fine until the morning. Jacob brought another drug drip, which they hooked up to Wall-e's arm on place of the empty one. He is currently in good condition, although it will take a few more days to fully recover or longer if the results show something worrisome. The fever dropped and now there was no need to put a cold compress on his forehead. The doctor put the goggles back on his forehead, but didn't understand why they were permanently attached to his head. Using the flashlight, he noticed that Wall-e had several almost invisible surgical scars almost on the back of his head.
The research results on his samples were due the next day, but the doctor suspected that Wall-e had been in this condition for some time (this is about his health and not the pacemaker). A mask had previously been placed over his face, which supplied not only oxygen but also gaseous medication to help soothe his severe cough. After an hour from the time the mask was put on until now Wall -e was breathing fairly normally, which meant that this type of therapy worked very well.
''Jacob!'' - he called his assistant ''You can go rest. You did very well"
''Thank you doctor. Let's hope this helps him recover quickly. Even if he is not a passenger on this ship, he seems nice''
''I think so too'' - said the doctor and began to cover Wall-e with a blanket to his shoulders exposing his left arm so that the IV tube would not detach, and then they began to leave.
Several more hours passed. It was now 4:45 am and everyone was supposed to arrive at 6 am.
Meanwhile, Wall-e slowly began to open his eyes. He was confused and didn't know where he was, or why he was hearing beeping sounds.
''Ouch,my head'' - he muttered to himself reaching out his hand to his head and suddenly : ''Ouchhh ...nhmhm!?'' - he shouted clenching his teeth.
He used that arm in which he had the needle stuck and it hurt when he bent it halfway. ''Why do I have ...? Wait ... Where am I?''
He wondered for a moment what was stuck in his arm, then looked at the room he was in. He got up slowly, causing the blanket to slip off him. He pulled off the mask , which he had on his face and put it on the table next to him. He was surprised to see all those cables hooked up to him and the machines. Now he recalled hearing some words from people at times when he felt bad, even though his eyes were closed and he was in pain.
''Did they... save me?'' - he asked himself and put his goggles back on. ''(sigh of sadness) ...The battery has only five bars. I guess I will have to save, because here I can't charge - he stated "What kind of clothes is that anyway" - he said looking at himself. Looking around, he noticed that his clothes were folded opposite him against the wall.
After a few minutes, being in a sitting position with feet above the floor ''I hope no one is offended that I leave all these cables this way'' - he said looking at the lying and dangling cables, which he disconnected from each other. Now the room was silent. ''Only ... what should I do about it? - he wondered looking at his arm, where the venflon was. He knew that he should rather not remove the needle himself by the fact that it was inserted into the hypodermic vein of the forearm, and that would cause blood to spill out. He thought for a moment and decided that he would try to gently unfasten the small tube from the venflon . Slowly and carefully he grabbed the tube unscrewing it to one side and the other and after a while managed to do it without any problem . Just in case, he plugged the hole with a plug on the side of the venflon.
After standing up (now with his feet touching the floor, though he wasn't cold), he looked around the room carefully. There was no one there but him but he noticed two shadows by the huge glass door standing on the sides. He was terrified because he knew very well what they were , or at least he thought so. He slowly approached the right side of the door, where there was a small gap. He couldn't see much but, he saw the same robot with its back turned and several connected places separated by blue force fields behind which other patients were enclosed.
Wall-e hoped he would not meet them again, but as you can see he was wrong. With his head lowered, he quietly returned to his bed. He sat on it, and then lay down without covering himself with a blanket. He had to admit that it was comfortable and even the pillow on which his head was as well as the blanket was soft. He was deep in thought looking at the ceiling.
''And what should I do now? - he was talking to himself in his mind ''If I try to leave this room then they will catch me and probably not let me out. I have to find some other way. Just what kind?...'' - he wondered while looking at the walls ''Hm… in this room, apart from the walls, there isn't even any ventilation through which I could pass unnoticed. The worst part was when I started to fall I felt my bag fall off my shoulder''
Wall-e stood up and walked over to the large table where his belongings were laid. Indeed, his bag was not there and he got worried, because there was a plant and the only gift he had given Eve. "Or is it still lying where I fell?" - wondered Wall-e.
After a while he started changing into his clothes. While dressing, he noticed that he had a red band on his wrist. Because of this, he was unable to put on one glove. He tried to somehow pull it or unfasten it but this kind looked like it was permanent. The idea of cutting the strip with a laser popped into Wall-e's head, but he had to do it carefully, because the thing couldn't stretch much and was quite close to the skin.
Wall-e managed to cut it off with one quick hit, but suddenly lights came on. It isn't known if it was due to the sound of the laser or maybe the smell. ''Oh shit, I don't think that means anything good,''- Wall-e said
He saw that one of the robots was coming to the door. He quickly put the red band away wherever and he hid under the left bed. For a moment Wall -e thought that he would only open the door but unfortunately he started to go inside with the other. Wall -e had no choice but to simply improvise.
The moment they both reached the bed where Wall-e had been lying, Wall-e took the opportunity to run out before the glass door closed. Everyone in the waiting room was surprised that the boy in the goggles was conscious, or at least those who were awake
"Ehh, damn it, locked" - said a disgruntled Wall-e, trying to open metal door.
''You won't open them that way''
''Huh? Who said that?'' - he asked turning around.
''Here ...come ... (a-achooo)'' - said the boy with the vacuum cleaner, who sneezed.
Other people also started to speak up and it started to get louder and louder
''Hey! Hey! Stop making so much noise everyone or ... Waaahh!'' - Wall-e tried to silence everyone, but unfortunately he didn't notice that while stepping back he stepped on one of the tennis balls and fell to the floor hitting his player, which turned on. ''Oh shit , I have to turn it off.''
Wall-e was clicking the button but the player all the time didn't stop playing the song 'Put on Your Sunday Clothers'. This unfortunately caused other patients as well as robots to wake up and look towards Wall-e . Also this noise attracted the attention of the stewards .
''STOP YOU THERE!" - shouted one of them.
- Ehh great," said Wall-e having had enough and hit his right hand on the player, which turned off. ''It starts again''
Wall-e ran fast around the waiting room and the stewards could not catch up with him. It was strange that other patients helped Wall-e , although they didn't know him. ( Beatrice used an umbrella , Patricia created a sort of smokescreen with powder face , Liamet blinded them with light, ...)
After a few minutes Wall-e stopped on the left side of the huge metal door where there was a control panel . He noticed it and wanted to check what it contained but suddenly ...
''Hey, look out!'' - shouted one of the patients.
Wall-e quickly did a dodge when something flew towards him. It turned out that one of the stewards used electric darts . Wall -e guessed that they couldn't be the same robots because those there knew how those arrows worked on him. When two darts hit the panel, it caused a short circuit and after a while the panel kind of exploded. In addition to the fact that there was smoke also turned on the warning. Wall-e got a little scared that he messed something up . After a while the sound stopped and the door opened. Wall-e without thinking any longer ran out, but did not notice that the force fields of everyone else in the room had disappeared and the patients were free. The people were happy that someone had freed them ,but Wall -e did not notice this because he was some distance away.
An alarm sounded. Wall -e already had his roller skates out and was rushing as fast as possible in case the stewards there chased him. As he drove along the straight route, he looked behind him and noticed that other people who were in the medical-repair ward were running out of there.
''Ehhh great, what have I done?'' - he said with his head turned back.
''STOP!'' - a voice sounded and Wall -e was caught.
''Hey, let me go!'' - shouted Wall-e being grabbed by the steward by the arm. The steward tried to grab the other arm, but Wall -e kept squirming and pushing his hand away . As the steward began to clench Wall-e's arm tighter, the latter screamed in pain. Without waiting, he did something that he himself probably wouldn't do so normally on someone, namely ... he used a laser . When the laser fired at the robot's hand, the robot let go of him, and when Wall -e turned around, suddenly there was a second steward (the normal type) in front of him, who had an exposed lens. Wall -e quickly ran away from there , not noticing that the steward took a quick picture of him when he turned around earlier.
After a few seconds, the photo was sent to every holoscreen and you could hear : ''CAUTION. ROGUE HUMAN''.
Wall-e only after a few minutes he saw that he was on the holoscreens ''Where did this photo come from? I look somehow ...menacing in it'' he said looking at the holoscreen on which he had an angry face with protruding teeth, an almost fighting stance and almost red eyes ''RED EYES!? Hey, what is that even supposed to be! I don't have those. - he shouted offended'' And this inscription...?''
''HALT!'' two stewards shouted at him
Wall-e continued to speed on roller skates passing more and more passing vehicles and robots . It was getting harder , but he had to escape somehow. After five minutes he reached the intersection , but he had to stand because on each side was blocked passage by robots and also people who got out of vehicles . Wall -e stood in the middle catching his breath and everyone looked at him . On each side were displayed huge holoscreens, where there was a photo of Wall-e. Almost everyone was pointing at Wall-e with their hand making him not understand what they meant. He looked at everyone confused.
It didn't last long because Wall-e noticed how from one side approached the same robots, which stopped him earlier. He shouted frightened and moved in the direction, where he was supposed to go earlier. Interestingly the people standing moved over and did not try to stop him and Wall-e didn't understand for a moment what was going on, and then rushed on.
Wall-e, during the escape, reflected: I must find some hiding place. After all, this chase can't go on forever just because I was judged for something I didn't do. Is that the case?
Wall-e continued to run and so it went on for some time.
Meanwhile in her quarters, Eve lay on a comfortable bed. Even though it was morning, she didn't even want to get out of bed. She was pulled from staring at the ceiling by a sound. At first she thought that maybe it was just another announcement, but she totally didn't expect it after seeing what was actually there. When she saw that on the smaller holo-screen was Wall-e , at first she thought she had it wrong, but she was not wrong. Even through the slightly exposed window, she saw that on the holoscreens was none other than Wall-e. She was so surprised that she dropped the blanket, which she was covered and was left only in white pajamas.
''And yet he is here,''- she said to herself slowly, ''I have to find him.''
She rushed to the bathroom and began to dress. She wasn't hungry because she had eaten breakfast earlier. After ten minutes she was dressed in her everyday clothes (the same as on the Earth) and left her quarters in search of Wall-e.
Description of persons performing :
Doctors and assistants
Patients :
Beatrice - blue-haired girl. She is allergic to light that's why we can meet her with an umbrella all the time.
Dafib - black-haired girl . Her defibrillators are so powerful that they can start a fire.
Liamet - a yellow-haired boy . He has an incredibly strong light , which is capable of blinding anyone. He is also shy and easily skittish.
Patricia - pink-haired girl . She dresses like a barbie doll and loves the color pink. She is very fond of doing makeup although it works out badly for her.
Hans - blue and white haired man . Supposedly he acts as a masseur but he does it so hard that he can even knead the metal by hitting it with his hands
Vingo - a boy with brown hair but also partly colored due to the fact that he is almost all stained with paint from brushes.
Vagium - a black-haired boy who sneezes and coughs all the time because of the dust to which he is allergic. He has a vacuum cleaner that jams at given times making him spit out dust instead of vacuuming it.
