Chapter 10 Inadvertent accusations
For several hours Wall -e ran away or hid. He wasn't welcome on board now. Everyone was convinced that he was dangerous and that all the problems that were encountered in the corridors ( although really only Wall-e caused problems in the medical-repair ward ) were his fault. Wall-e there tried to convince some people that he did nothing wrong , but unfortunately everyone only believed the stewards or all those photos with him.
(Events for these hours)
During this time Eve flew back and forth looking for Wall-e or any signs of, where he might have gone. Unfortunately, she didn't see him anywhere, and the only thing that attracted her attention were all those displayed photos of the wanted Wall-e. Eve hoped that this is just some mistake. She knows Wall-e and believes that he wouldn't be able to do anything wrong to be wanted.
In another part of Axiom also Moe didn't understand all those photos. On every holoscreen he passed was his new meet friend, only that strangely angry. Moe managed to find Wall-e's bag, as well as collect the tools that fell out. While putting them back into the bag, he noticed something unusual in Wall-e's bag. He was curious about the green thing placed in the old shoe , which was a beautiful green plant. Moe had never seen anything like it and wondered if Wall-e could have taken it from ... EARTH?... ''Oh yes, of course'' - he muttered to himself ''I need to find Lieutenant Evelyn. Only she will know what to do with it'' He was happy that he had found a solution and was glad that no one was paying attention to him. Wall-e's bag as well as his tools had previously been cleaned by Moe, so he could keep it on. His cleaning brush camouflaged the bag carried on his shoulder quite well, which would lessen the surprise of others as to why Moe had a bag with him.'' As he walked like this he wondered:''I hope she will be in the quarters. Maybe by the way I will meet Wall-e.''
On the command bridge , Auto was upset that the boy with the goggles managed to escape . He not only found out after one of the stewards sent the information but also from the photo displayed on the holoscreens . Even the captain had so many questions about this stranger boy that Auto had to lie to him so that he wouldn't drag the subject out further. Of course, the captain believed him in everything and returned to his cabin after the daily morning briefing. Auto found some information about this boy although only from some recording. The captain also wondered who he was . While watching various videos about the Earth , a private message was displayed on the holoscreen . It turned out that it came from the medical-repair department and contained information on Wall-e research . The captain did not know for a moment who it was about, but then he thought about it and it was possible that it was that person with the goggles . When the Captain so read all this information, he became concerned.
Current time. Time 3:18 pm.
Wall-e was out in the open, more or less above the passing passengers. To avoid the patrol, he hid in a random room. Fortunately, there was no one in the room, as well as windows and cameras, so Wall -e won't be detected.
''I wonder what this place is?'' - Wall-e wondered.
The room contained only equipment and some kind of large closet. When Wall -e opened the closet it turned out that inside was full of various white uniforms. They looked exactly like those worn by others aboard the Axiom. When Wall-e looked at the uniforms as well as the equipment , he got a good idea. Before he even started to execute his plan, he saw a water vending machine by the wall. He decided that before he started to get dressed he poured himself a little in a cup. Unfortunately there was nothing to eat, but Wall-e somehow did not feel hungry even though he was running, and his battery remained at the same level.
After a while, he took one of the uniforms equipped with a large backpack, boots and a cap and began to change. After ten minutes he was dressed, and he had to admit that he felt completely different in this.
His boots and suit easily fitted into the empty backpack. The uniform was zippered and also had pockets . When Wall-e put on his cap, he went to the mirror to check how he looked. The clothes fit him perfectly. Also the shoes were neither too small nor too big, and the cap was wide enough that Wall-e easily tucked his goggles under it, as well as his hair, leaving only a few strands on the sides that covered his ears a bit.
When he finished he was surprised after seeing himself in the mirror. He couldn't recognize himself at all and hoped the plan would work. Earlier, while touring the Axiom, Wall-e had observed how some people were dressed and he knew more or less how to move. He remembered that someone was dressed in the same uniform and remembered that in addition to the backpack there was also a broom, so he took one and pinned it to the left side of the backpack.
The moment he thought he was ready to leave he started to open the door . There was no one outside for the time being , so Wall-e was able to leave without any problems . He was also grateful that no one had entered the room since he had been there because he would have been in trouble. He didn't know where he currently was because he didn't see a hologram map or anything familiar anywhere. He decided that he would walk quietly through the corridors trying not to draw much attention to himself.
For an hour he walked along with other workers who went to their quarters or to their duties. None of the employees or stewards paid any attention to Wall-e. Despite the fact that his likeness was seen everywhere , no one guessed that cleaning worker Connor (the name on his uniform) was actually Wall-e.
Wall-e seeing that no one was paying attention to him, especially the combat stewards, was satisfied that the disguise worked. Now he could move quietly and look for the place where his bag fell or somewhere that machine that will tell him where he is? He also hoped that he would finally meet Eve, for who he was beginning to miss a lot.
This thought made him worry. He didn't know if she was in this coma all the time, but he believed that he would eventually see her conscious . He was very much hoping to find her despite the fact that the Axiom was a really huge ship and it is very easy to get lost on it. Also, he wondered where Moe was now because he hadn't seen him since they inadvertently separated. Wall-e had a slight reproaches that he didn't wait for him or at least look to see if he was following him.
Walking through the corridors, where he had previously been, he saw on the left thirty feet away a door leading to the medical-repair ward, which was now closed. Wall -e guessed that the control panel had probably been repaired although he now thought that this business of that escape from the ward was a very stupid idea because, after all, those doctors there had saved his life and if not for them he would surely have died. He promised himself that as soon as he stopped being considered a dangerous person, then he would try to somehow thank them for saving his life. He smiled to himself at that thought and continued walking.
Less than three hours later
It was slowly getting dark. Wall-e reached a place where you could see the Lido deck from above . From above, it all looked so beautiful that Wall-e couldn't stop looking at it. He noticed that the passengers were still there even though it was getting dark. All the time he didn't understand how they were looking at all those holoscreens by their hoverchairs. He left this topic aside and walked on. All the time his photo was displayed on the holo-screens, but at least now there were no loud warnings. Unfortunately, his bag could not be found even though by some miracle he managed to find the place where his accident occurred. Wall -e was so disappointed that he couldn't know what to think about it. He hoped all the time that maybe Moe found it before him because after all his bag was dirty.
The night has come. Wall -e was passing through a slightly narrower corridor and to his right passed passengers still in blue jumpsuits and all the while staring at holoscreens. Passengers didn't even pay attention to him when he passed them.
After a while, the walls on the left were replaced by an amazing night sky full of beautiful twinkling stars
''Oooohhhh ...They are beautiful'' - said Wall-e at the sight of the stars. ''That reminded me of the time when I watched them on that spaceship.''
For several minutes Wall -e looked on this so thoughtfully that he did not look where he was going.
'' (impact sound!) Ow!'' - shouted Wall -e as he fell
It turned out that he bumped into Mary's hoverchair, who earlier also looked at the stars
''Are you okay?'' - she asked
- Yes, yes, I am very sorry, I didn't want ... Huh? Miss Mary?'' - Wall-e was surprised, when he saw who he ran into.
''Oh Wall-e. How nice...''
''Shhhh''- Wall -e silenced her when the steward appeared for a moment and then disappeared ''Uff, little was missing''- breathed Wall -e and put his cap back on. ''I'm sorry about that falling in. I didn't notice where I was going and somehow I...''
Hey, hey easy . Nothing happened," - she reassured him by putting her hand on his shoulder.
Mary looked at Wall-e and was surprised by his another clothes.'' Why are you wearing different clothes? Didn't you have a yellow and gray outfit by any chance before?''
''Yes, I had, but... Well, I...'' - Wall-e couldn't explain it.
''Did you do something wrong ? ''
''What? No, no, I mean ...well ... I'm kind of being judged for something I didn't do, and I guess everyone thinks I'm probably ... dangerous,'' - he said the latter with a sad look at the two holoscreens behind him that had his photo on them.
Mary felt sorry for him . Now she understood why he was hiding.
''Have you tried to convince others that you are not guilty of anything?''
''Yes but no one listens to me. Maybe in time they will forget.''
Mary seeing that he was sad, decided to change the topic of conversation.
''As I heard, you also looked at the stars.''
''Mhm, they are really beautiful. On the Earth I have only seen them once, and here you can see a whole lot of them. Some of them remind me of Eve.''
''Eve ... meaning your friend ?''
Wall-e blushed because he sincerely loved her more than a friend but decided to stay with this version.
''Yes. Unfortunately I didn't find her and honestly now I don't know where I should look.''
Mary thought for a moment . She didn't know anyone with such a name but the thought suddenly occurred to her.
'' You know. I might be able to help you somehow.''
''Really?''
''Mhm. I heard that supposedly somewhere in this part are the quarters of all recruits, who occupy higher positions. Maybe you can find her room there.''
''Oh yes, of course. That might make sense'' - said overjoyed '' ''Haha, why didn't I think of that …woohoo ... (crackle) ...Huh?''
''Hey, what's going on?''
Wall -e while quickly spreading his hands , he inadvertently hit the passenger hoverchair speaker and turned it off . That passenger turned out to be John , who Wall-e had met earlier . John's jumpsuit turned back red and he quickly drove up forward before another passenger could hit him . When he stopped, he saw another female passenger in front of him, and next to her a cleaner. He looked at them with surprise, especially at the boy in the white uniform.
''Haven't we met before?'' - he asked
''Umm, yes , that's right. I am Wall-e''
''Do you guys know each other?'' - asked Mary
''Yes , we ran into each other. Or actually I ran into him.'' - John said
John and Wall-e told Mary how they met . Wall-e also told some things among other things what happened. Both passengers sympathized him . For twenty minutes, all three talked to each other and looked at the stars. At one point John realized something .
'' Now is the time that most of the workers will be going to their quarters . You should better hurry up before they will suspect something. ''
''He is probably right Wall -e . Your outfit may work , but if they see you at this hour, you may have problems.'' - agreed Mary
''You are indeed right. I'd better move on in that case. Thank you very much for your help," - Wall-e said with a smile and came between them hugging them .
''It's nothing like that . It is we who are grateful to you for showed us to see the world from a different perspective'' - she said, and Wall-e straightened up.
'' All the pleasure is mine . Thank you again," - he smiled and waved at them before walking away.
When Wall-e left, Mary said, ''Such a nice boy''
'' I agree ''
When they were looking at the stars together like this at one point John touched Mary's hand and after looking at each other they felt that they were destined for each other.
Wall-e managed to find the corridor . There were really a lot of doors (about forty) and it was hard to find the right ones the first time.
''Hey you ! '' - shouted a voice and Wall -e stood still in fear. ''This is not a place for cleaning staff.''
- Uumm ... I'm... I'm sorry," he said turning around slowly. I ... got a little lost and I... - Wall -e suddenly stopped talking when he saw who was really talking to him . His eyes were so wide and his mouth deviated that he covered them with his hands. He couldn't believe it was really her. '' Eee... EEVVVEEE?!... I can't believe. Eve . It's you," - he exclaimed happily.
''But how do you know me?''
''Eve, it's me'' - said coming closer continuing to smile
''What? Wall-e ?!''
''Mhm, yes it's…''
''Come with me quickly,'' - she said, pulling him by the hand
Eve grabbed his right hand and dragged him to one of the doors . She quickly let him inside and closed the door.
''Wall-e? So you were on board after all. But what do you actually ...? - she interrupted seeing that he isn't listening to her '' Hey, are you listening to me? Wall-e!'' - she shouted to him, to which made him come to his senses.
''Umm yes, yes, forgive me. I just ... I've been looking for you for so long and I thought you were still in that box and I was terribly worried.''
''Box, you mean capsule?''
''Mhm ... Yes ...yes that's right...When I ...well ... there on Earth ...
''Hey, hey calm down," she said holding his shoulders
- Can I give you a hug ? - he asked, to which Eve looked with her head tilted slightly to the side.
After a while she agreed and they both hugged each other . Wall -e was very happy while Eve in part only was. She was still in a big shock that he was here. She had so many questions for him that she didn't know where to start. After a while they let go and Eve told Wall-e to sit on her bed.
''Let me tell you, I am also surprised to see you here? I was convinced you were on the Earth.''
''Really?''
''Yes, but I can't understand how you got on board.''
''I know you probably won't believe it but I slipped into that spaceship, which was taking you ...''
''Wait, wait a minute but why did you do that?''
''Because...I...well''. Wall–e was stupid for not being able to explain it.
''Well ok , let's leave it at that. Another question. Explain to me what is the point of all these pictures?''
''This is ... a complicated matter,"- he said seeing that Eve was listening, "But I swear I did nothing wrong. Nobody believed in my innocence, that's why I borrowed those clothes. I know it's theft, but I had no choice,"- he said, lowering his head.
''Wall-e'' - she said putting her hand on him –'' I believe you that you did nothing wrong . In general also cool looking your eyes without goggles''- she said looking at the nice shade of brown .
''Oh? ..Um ...Thank you. They're hidden under this cap," - he said pulling his cap down and now his goggles were visible as well as his hair.
Eve was already about to say something for a moment thinking she would see ground marks on the floor when Wall -e fluttered his hair but she was surprised that nothing happened
"Why is there no ground or dust?"- she wondered and decided to check something. Seeing Eve's hand in front of him, Wall-e got a little scared "Don't be afraid, I just wanted to touch your hair".
Wall -e was sitting normally. Eve after touching his hair strands was surprised . The last time she touched them they were rough and now they were soft and dirt-free '' Did you wash yourself ? ''
Wall-e nodded his head affirmatively .'' It was when you Eve stayed there on the captain's bridge. I was then ...''
''Wait, wait, were you on the bridge? - she asked surprised
''What? No, no. I saw everything on the live broadcast when I moved by monorail, and then I went to...
Wall-e stopped talking when he saw the sadness on Eve's face.
''Eve, is everything okay?'' - he asked worriedly
''(sigh)... Nothing is actually right''
''Do you want to tell me?''
Eve agreed and for a few minutes told Wall-e about the event on the Captain's bridge. Wall-e felt sorry for Eve. Now he understood why the plant was so important. Unfortunately, he also lost her because the short guy ... Wait a minute.
''Eve, but after all it is not your fault ''.
''That's my fault, Wall-e. If I only...''
''Eve, listen to me'' - he said taking her hands and kneeling in front of her. ''You are not guilty of anything. It is the fault of only that who took the gift, which I gave you. I do not know if you know but some short man in an officer's uniform had it.''
''Wait, Gofour?! But how do you know that?''- she said grabbing his arm and inadvertently squeezed the place where Wall -e had a needle stuck in him.
''Ouuchh!'' - He shouted while holding his left arm where he had a venflon.
Eve at his sudden shout, she was surprised and quickly retracted her hands – ''Huh? What happened?''
''(slight moan of pain), it's just... this thing on my arm. I can't get it off and when I bend my hand it hurts a little," - he said with a moan of pain.
''May I see ?'' - she asked to which Wall -e pushed back his sleeve gently . Eve, seeing the venflon, was puzzled. She was aware that they were used in the medical-repair ward, but why was Wall -e wearing one.
'' It is after all ... ? Where did you get it from?''
Wall-e sat back on the bed '' I was in the ward , where I was treated. I was electrocuted by two robots with hands , who fired arrows at me I think , and when I fell I lost my bag.''
''So it was because of the stewards that you ended up in the medical-repair ward?'' - she asked to which he nodded
''I am very sorry Eve , but your gift ...''
(Knock knock )
A sudden knock made them both freeze and look at the door.
''Quick, hide in the wardrobe," - she said and Wall-e quickly hid.
When Eve made sure that Wall-e hid, she started to open the door. After opening it, it turned out that Moe was standing there.
''Can I help you with anything?''
''Lieutenant Evelyn, as I understand it?'' - asked Moe
''Yes, did something happen ?''
''Can I take a moment ? ''
''Yes, of course, come in,'' - she said letting him inside and closed the door.
''I have something here that perhaps you should see,'' - he said, showing her the object in his hands.
'' This is a shoulder bag Wall-e , but from where ... ''
''Moe?'' - said a voice, which surprised Moe. It turned out that Wall -e at the time of leaving the wardrobe spoke up.
''Wall-e?''
They both looked at each other.
'' Do you guys know each other ?'' - asked Eve
''He rescued me when I almost fell from a height and from then on we helped each other until we were separated.''
''Um yes ... here I apologize for not paying attention. I hope you are not angry for me? - said Wall-e scratching his neck
''I forgive you. Here," he said handing him the bag.
Wall-e immediately opened it and was happy that inside was still the object they cared most about . Eve seeing the plant was so happy that she took it from Wall-e and hugged it in her hands.
''YES,YES,YES,YES. I HAVE A PROOF. HAHAHA.''
Moe and Wall -e were also happy to see her so happy.
"Thank you so much for finding it," - Eve was saying to Moe.
''You're welcome''
They were both taken in Eve's embrace and the three of them hugged each other for a minute. Eve placed her plant in the container and was about to leave when...
''Ah, I'd forget. You still have a needle stuck in arm.'' - she said turning to Wall-e
''Wait? What needle?'' - asked Moe surprised, when Wall -e pushed back his sleeve.
Eve prepared everything and they began to slowly remove the venflon from Wall-e's arm. Eve did it carefully and after a few minutes began to apply a bandage .
''All right '' - she said after she finished and moved her hands away.
''Thank you Eve'' - Wall -e said with a smile at which she also smiled.
After a while Eve reflected : ''It's 7:22 pm. I'm not sure what time the Captain goes to bed, but I think we still have some time to meet with him. We have to go.''
''ALL RIGHT," they both said at the same time and started to leave.
Wall -e put his cap back on and was about to leave when ...
''Ah, a moment'' - said to herself Eve ''Wall-e , wait a moment,'' - she said walking over to the chests of drawers and Wall-e stood a few feet from her waiting, when Moe came out to the outside. - ''Give your hand '' - she said at which Wall-e put his right hand forward and she put on it her ...gun ? Wall -e was surprised - '' But why do I need it ? ''
''Just in case. Promise to use it when the time is right. ''
Wall-e looked at the weapon. It was a little similar to Eve's but this one was a little smaller and also had a sight and a little more black color than white. After a while he said : ''I promise'' and put it in the bag . The bag was missing a water bottle and two candy bars , but Wall-e didn't notice that.
They all went out into the hallway and Wall-e and Moe held on to Eve while she held them and then she started flying to the site.
They reached the Lido deck within 10 minutes and hid behind a vehicle with stacks of towels just in case.
''Ok. We'll do it like this. I and Wall -e will go in there and try to talk to the Captain...''
''And I am supposed to sit here without doing anything? I want to go with you," - said an offended Moe.
''It would be better if there were no more people. Usually only one person can come to the Captain because otherwise there is no suspicion. I will try to convince the guard (the robot operate the console) to let our two in. I think Wall-e in this disguise should be allowed in due to the fact that sometimes one of the cleaners comes to the Captain's quarters to clean there.
''So I can cross without any problem?'' - asked Wall-e
''Very possible'' - confirmed Eve
''In that case, we better not waste time . Moe if anything , you will be on standby ''
''Yes, sure''
Wall-e took off his bag and said Moe to guard it.
''Ok. Let's go''
Eve and Wall-e were walking towards the door. Wall-e was shaking a little because he noticed several stewards rectangular and maybe two combat about thirty feet away from them. Eve seeing this grabbed his hand and whispered: ''Don't be afraid. They won't do anything to us.'' These words calmed Wall-e down and they walked on. After crossing the door Wall -e saw to the left a robot typing on a console.
''Ehem'' - Eve grunted drawing the robot's attention, and he looked at her. ''We have orders to clean the Captain's quarters. Here I brought one of the members of the cleaning team, who was to report.''
The robot looked at Wall-e and without a word pressed the button on the keypad. The force field turned off and the elevator doors stood open. Wall-e and Eve went inside without turning around. When the doors closed and the elevator moved up, they both high-fived each other. They were satisfied that the plan had succeeded, although the question was for how long.
