Chapter 11 Conversation with the Captain

Wall-e and Eve reached the floor where the Captain's room were. After opening the door, they slowly entered the quaters looking around for the Captain. However, it turned out that the Captain wasn't asleep but was looking at the holoscreen the whole time. Hearing the door opening he turned in his hoverchair and was surprised. He didn't expect someone to visit him.

''Lieutenant Evelyn?''

''Hello Mr. Captain," - she said making a motion with her hand as then.

Wall-e seeing this did the same thing . He didn't really understand what the gesture was supposed to mean, but he probably had to do it when meeting the Captain.

''I bring news that we have found the missing plant. I have proof here,'' - she said pulling the plant out of the container. The Captain seeing the real specimen became numb and looked in disbelief : ''But how... How did you find it?'' - Eve handed the plant to the Captain, and he looked at it.

''It's a long story,'' - admitted Wall-e

The Captain looked at Wall-e. For a moment he didn't know if it was definitely this person he was thinking of, but when Eve used the word "we" then it was already certain.

''You must be Wall-e?'' - asked the captain, to which Wall-e as well as Eve looked puzzled.

''Um... yes, that's right . But how did the Captain know ? Eve , you were talking about me ?'' - asked Wall-e turning to her

''No, I didn't say your name, and besides...''

''No, no, kids. Listen to me'' - said the Captain, interrupting them ''This photo with you, the warning and the message which I received, helped me guess that it is you. Relax, I won't tell Auto that you are in my quaters.''

''Thank you very much, Sir" - said Eve

''Actually, we want to...'' – Wall-e began but was interrupted by the Captain.

''Tell me all about the Earth . Is it nice there? Green? There are more such plants?'' - The Captain asked so many questions that Wall-e and Eve couldn't keep up.

''Um, well so…''

''Well, how to say…''

''No, no, no, don't say anything . I'll see it myself ''- The Captain said and approached Eve along with a small rectangular device, which he took out earlier. ''Lean over slightly,'' - he said to Eve and took out a small chip from her wristband, which he inserted into the device.

After a while the device levitated displaying a holoscreen playing video of everything Eve saw, starting with the spaceship . Wall -e also looked at everything and felt different emotions going through him recalling that time when he first met with Eve. The captain was disappointed when he looked at all these areas. He was convinced that the Earth was as beautiful as in the pictures and it turned out to be so empty and bleak. At one moment music sounded and the Captain turned around to see .

''I know what is this... These are ... Dances ? Yes, they are dancing.'' - the Captain apparently liked the song and even heard Wall-e muttering to the rhythm and looked at him as Eve did.

''Oh, sorry. I really like this song.

''Don't apologize for anything. This is great song'' - said the Captain and looked at his foot moving in rhythm and then at the plant in his hand. The Captain moved the plant slightly for a moment looking at it but suddenly one of the leaves detached. Terrified Captain tried to hook it back but suddenly remembered something: Of course. Water - he said and went to the tap.

By that time, a video had already appeared in which two people sang and held hands. Wall -e was so thoughtful about it that he put his hands together. Eve saw it and followed suit, and Wall-e didn't notice it. The video paused as Wall-e held the plant and the camera footage turned on.

''(shock reaction) Oh my god''- Wall-e was now numb holding his hands over his mouth. He didn't expect that this recording also had a continuation. Eve was so engrossed that she didn't notice how Wall-e was going back. Wall-e didn't want to watch it again, and at least those scenes where he sort of sacrifices himself. Of course, inwardly he was happy that he managed to protect Eve, but look at this made that he couldn't stop feel sadness again, which he could not contain. For the time being, he stood aside but at one point he noticed something displayed on a screen against the wall. Eve didn't notice how he moved or even the Captain.

Wall-e looked at the displayed message sheet on the holoscreen. It contained all the information about the results obtained during Wall-e's stay in the medical-repair ward. Wall-e didn't understand everything, but some things were fairly understandable. He couldn't believe that such a powerful charge that was used on him as written by the doctor was so strong that it would instantly kill a normal person on the spot. These sentences about his weakened body and the detection of substances that a normal body wouldn't take in were understandable to him, since he had been breathing Earth air for centuries. He also learned that his blood type was "0Rh-."

Wall-e analyzed all this information he read both about his condition , blood, samples taken and much more. He had no idea that it was so bad with him . Admittedly, he sometimes felt sick and was bothered by this cough occurring at certain times, but he had no idea that even though he was eating, drinking and recharging his battery, his immune system was actually being destroyed from these constant climate changes as well as the toxic substances he was inhaling. He now understood why he had been on an IV at the time, and to be honest, he felt a little better now.

Wall-e decided to check something . He pulled off his cap and slipped the goggles over his eyes. His goggles, even though they had been taken off before, still had their functions enabled. All in all, Wall-e had no idea if they were actually was turning off although he had that impression. When he saw the battery level, he got worried. He half unzipped his uniform and saw that there were only three bars too, which could mean that Wall -e only had five hours or maybe even less . Wall -e was so worried at this thought that he lowered his head.

Meanwhile, Eve was at this part of the recording as Wall -e played in game on the roof. Eve, seeing all that he had done for her, was very moved. She didn't expect that someone would be so tender and take care of her during her stasis. And those words, which she heard "I love you" caused her to start feeling something for him too. The moment she wanted to grab his hand she noticed that he wasn't next to her. She turned off the video and looked around until she saw him next to the computer holoscreen. Eve noticed that he had his head lowered . It worried her that he was sad, so she began to approach him. The Captain also noticed this and wondered why Wall-e seemed depressed.

''Hey Wall-e '' - she asked putting her hand on his shoulder and it made him shuddered ''Oops sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I see you put on goggles.''

''No, no, you just surprised me a little," - he said zipping his uniform back up. ''It's nothing ... really.''

''You can calmly tell us what worries you, - assured the Captain while being next to Eve with the plant he was holding ''Is it perhaps about this information? ''

Wall-e denied with his head ''Not quite,'' - he said turning to them sadly and unbuttoned the top of his uniform again ''The point is this'' - he said showing them the pacemaker at which they shouted surprised and especially Eve.

Eve covered her mouth with her hands , and the captain looked surprised. Eve after seeing the number of dashes was very concerned. She knew well that Wall -e without the pacemaker can die .

''Oh, Wall-e,'' - she said hugging him. Wall-e sadly rested his head on her shoulder and she stroked his head and back.

''I understand that this is your source of life by means of which you live, Wall-e? - asked the Captain to which Wall-e nodded his head.

Eve let go of Wall-e and held his face now pushing back his goggles. She was surprised because she saw tears in his eyes. ''Wall-e, don't cry. I promise I won't let you die.''

''Really?'' - he asked

''Really'' - she said with a smile and to the surprise of the Captain and even more so of Wall-e, Eve kissed him ... on the lips ?

Wall-e couldn't believe that she really kissed him. His heart was beating so fast that suddenly there was a beeping sound . For a moment everyone was worried but then the level was as it was before. Wall-e and Eve looked at each other with a smile until the Captain spoke up :'' Is your battery charged with some special energy?''

''The energy of the sun . I even have a small drawing in here.'' - he said showing a small drawing of a sun , which was orange now.

''You say that the sun?'' - The captain pondered. '' Unfortunately the real sun must be really very far from here . We only have an artificial source but maybe it will work. Do you have a cable of any kind ? ''

''Yes, of course'' - Wall-e shoved his hands into his pockets and then remembered that after all his suit is in his backpack '' ... Um, just a moment,'' - Wall-e said, taking off his backpack, ''I forgot I had hidden my clothes here.'' After a moment he pulled out the cable hidden in his pocket and gave it to the Captain, who looked at it. After a moment he said: ''Come with me.''

Ten feet from the computer stood a rectangular device resembling a generator .''Computer . Is the charging device operational?''

'' I CONFIRMED CAPTAIN," - replied the voice.

Wall-e sat in front of the device when the Captain connected one end of the cable, which fit perfectly, and the other held Wall-e. As soon as the Captain let it be known that he could plug it to the pacemaker, Wall-e did it. They waited a few minutes but unfortunately nothing happened.

''(Sigh of disappointment )… It doesn't work,'' - Wall-e said sadly, disconnecting the cable and fastening his uniform. ''I don't feel any energy flowing to me.''

'' Then there is only one option left '' - said the Captain , when Wall-e was tucking the cable into his backpack '' We must return to the Earth ''

Wall-e and Eve agreed with the Captain.

''Mr. Captain!'' - Eve called out before he pressed one of the buttons on the hoverchair ''It had better that Wall-e leave the quarters before the Commander Auto comes, because he may be forcibly thrown out or something may happen to him, and I don't want any harm to come to him.

'' All right, Eve'' - agreed the Captain.

''But Eve, I don't want...''

''Don't worry. I'll join you later ''

Wall-e didn't want to argue with Eve, so he just put on his cap and backpack and went to the elevator . The moment the elevator reached the bottom, Wall-e got out and went to the door and then to where Moe was.
