Hal 'Harry' Jordan Jr.: Age 13 1/2

"RIIIIINNNNGGGG!"

The alarm clock went off at 7:30am, in a fairly large bedroom on a nightstand, and on the left side of a twin sized bed, where a young boy was woken up by his clock.

It was Hal Jordan Jr., but everyone calls him 'Harry', including his parents. But he doesn't mind.

He turned off his alarm clock, he stretched out his arms and legs, yawned, and rubbed his eyes.

And got up from his bed, opened the curtains on his bedroom window, and he opened the window upwards. The salty sea breeze was blowing lightly upon his face, and his brown hair hanging down by his ears was blowing along with it.

And the morning Sun was shining bright, and reflecting upon the Pacific coastal waters. And the seagulls were awake, flying around, and trying to find breakfast.

"Ahh. The ocean breeze always makes me feel alive and ready to start my day", Harry said to himself. He always loved to open his window every morning and feel the sea breeze on his face.

Just then, his bedroom door knocked and opened. His mother, Carol Ferris walked in and saw her son at his bedroom window.

"Harry? It's time for breakfast, honey", she said. "We're having cinnamon waffles, bacon, eggs, and fresh cut strawberries. You, me, and your dad's favorite".

"Alright!" Harry exclaimed. "Thanks, Mom!"

He closed his window, and ran straight downstairs to the dining room. Where his father, Hal Jordan was waiting for him at the table.

Hal laughed as he saw his energetic young son run towards the table, and sat in the chair right next to him. Carol laughed too as she came downstairs to join her family for their favorite breakfast meal.

They each served themselves 2 sunnyside up eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, 2 waffles, and a small handful of cut strawberries. Hal and Carol both had a cup of fresh coffee, while Harry had a glass of orange juice. And they each poured maple syrup on their waffles.

The happy Jordan family was enjoying their favorite and delicious breakfast.

Hal shaked some pepper on his eggs, he liked adding spice to his meals. Carol dipped her strawberries in the syrup, she loved adding sweet with even more sweet. And Harry scrambled his eggs and his bacon together using his fork and knife, he likes mixing up certain types of foods because sometimes they taste better.

Carol giggled as she saw Harry devouring his breakfast. "Slow down, honey! You're gonna get a stomach ache. Your breakfast isn't going anywhere".

Harry stopped his fast eating pace.

"Your mom's right, Son", Hal chuckled. "We both know that you're excited about today, but don't chow down and swallow your food like that, it's not healthy. And I should know.

"Cause I learned the same lesson when I was your age. I was so excited about seeing my dad, your grandpa testing and flying the new fighters jet, that I ate my breakfast in less than 2 minutes. And by the time we arrived there, me and my stomach were having a wrestling match!"

They all laughed hearing Hal's funny story.

"Okay, Mom. Okay, Dad", said Harry. "I'll take my time. But I just can't wait to go to Mount Justice and hangout with my super friends!"

"We know, honey", said Carol, as she ate a waffle and strawberry piece.

And when Harry started eating at a good pace, his dad noticed that he looked a bit down. "What's wrong, Harry? Are you having that stomach ache?"

Carol noticed that Harry looked a bit upset, too.

"No, Dad", Harry replied. "You both know that I love hanging out with my friends like any other kid does. But... it's just that... my friends all have super powers, except for Damian. But there are times when I feel left out whenever I'm with them, because they have something so amazing that I don't have.

"And if there's any possible way that the Guardians on Oa will think of choosing me to be a new Green Lantern, then I won't be left out anymore".

"We understand that, Son", said Hal, as he ate some of his egg. "Everybody feels left out sometimes. But it's like I told you, the Guardians can't just choose anyone to join the Green Lantern Corps. out of the blue. They have to choose the ones who have bravery and will power inside them".

"But the Guardians didn't exactly choose you, Dad. It was that alien, Abin Sur when he crashed here on Earth before he died. His ring chose you, not the Guardians".

"Yes, that's true, Harry", Carol replied as she took a sip of coffee from her mug. "But your father is right. It takes true will power for someone to become a Green Lantern. And besides, I don't think that another dying Green Lantern will come to Earth any time soon".

Harry understood his parents' point. But deep down, he wants to be a Green Lantern just like his dad. And he continued eating his breakfast.

Then, as Hal finished eating the last of his waffles, he said, "But. To be honest Son, I've been wondering about the same thing, too. That even if you become a new Green Lantern, it will be totally amazing, and you would do a great job at it, as well".

"And I've been having that thought ever since you were born".

Harry smiled when he heard his father say that. "Really, Dad? You'd think that I'd be Green Lantern material?"

"Mmm-hmm", Hal replied as he nodded his head. "But it's like I said before, it's up to the Guardians on Oa to decide who is worthy to wield a Green Lantern ring".

Then, as Carol finished the last of her breakfast, she said, "And besides, honey. You don't have to change who you are just to fit in with your friends. Green Lantern or not. Being yourself is the best you can be".

"Hey! That's what Athena, and her parents say", said Harry as he finished eating his waffles, and drank his orange juice.

"And, you guys are right. The Guardians are the ones who gets to decide who deserves a Lantern ring. And even if I'm not a Green Lantern, although I still do wish it, I don't need to be one just to fit in with my super friends. I'm okay with who I am".

"That's my boy", Hal said, rubbing his son's head.

Then, suddenly, as the family finished up their breakfast and cleaned up the table, Hal's Justice League communicator went off.

Hal looked at it, then he looked at Harry, and he smiled.

Harry gasped happily as he heard the beeping and saw his dad's smile. Those could only mean one thing...

It was time for Harry to join his father on the trip to Mount Justice!

Harry always loved to hangout with his friends, Jon, Athena, Nora, Henry, Azura, and Damian whenever their parents go on super hero missions, or just any time they want.

He got along with Jon really well, they always have a lot of fun playing together. Including playing video games, board games, and even card games. And sometimes he would catch Jon cheating cause of his x-ray vision. But they would just laugh it off.

Harry went back upstairs to his room to get dressed. He took off his blue cotton pajamas, and put on a pair of green camouflage jeans that had small rips and holes in the legs, but he liked that kind of style. And he put on his bright blue sneakers that had silver lightning bolts on the sides.

And he put on a green and black long-sleeved shirt, and it had a Green Lantern symbol on the chest. It was his favorite shirt. And green was his favorite color.

Then he went to the bathroom which was right across from his room. He brushed his hair and teeth, and gave his face a quick warm soapy wash.

And when Harry came back downstairs, he saw his father wearing his Lantern ring.

"Can I say the Oath with you, Dad?" he asked as he ran towards him at the back door

"Sure, Son", Hal replied.

"Mind if I join in with you boys?" Carol asked as she put on her work jacket and walked towards her son and husband.

"Be my guest, Babe", said Hal. He gave his wife a kiss on the lips.

And so, the Jordan family went outside in their big backyard, which was facing towards the Pacific Ocean. And where Harry's bedroom window was.

"Alright", said Hal. "All together, now!"

The family said the Green Lantern Oath loudly with pride:

"In brightest day, in blackest night,

no evil shall escape my sight.

Let those who worship evil's might,

beware my power.

Green Lantern's light!"

When they finished, Hal Jordan began to glow bright green. And he transformed into...

Green Lantern!!

Harry NEVER got bored watching his father turn into a super hero. He always looked up to him for as long as he can remember.

Carol did, too. She was proud of her brave husband. And even though he can be hot-headed sometimes, she still loves him. No matter what.

Then Green Lantern activated his ring, and made a jet out of solid energy.

"Are you all set for Mount Justice, Harry?", he asked as he flew in the pilot's seat.

"You bet, Dad Lantern!" replied Harry as he ran up the jet's stairs.

His parents laughed.

'Dad Lantern' was the nickname Harry gave him when he was first told about his father's super hero identity.

"Have fun, honey", Carol called out. "I love you!"

"Love you too, Mom!" said Harry.

"As do I, Babe", said Green Lantern. "And say, 'Hi' to your old man for me".

"Me too, Mom!"

"Alright", said Carol with a smile.

And with that, Harry fastened his seat belt as his father started the green jet. And they slowly rose up from the yard, and they took off into the sky. They were on their way to Mount Justice.

Harry Jordan may not be a Green Lantern like his father. But he doesn't need to be one just to be like his best super friends.

But... there are some very wise minds in outer space, beyond Earth who are watching the young boy right now.

And they are discussing certain thoughts about him.
