Overseas Affair opens to mixed reviews, as most movies of a similar genre do. A lot of people absolutely love it, some people absolutely hate it, and others feel indifferent towards it. The movie does decently at the box office, but as Beck had predicted...it doesn't get nominated for any major awards. Both he and Jade are fine with this; they're proud of the film and had a great experience working together...not to mention that it's put them on the map in the movie industry in addition to television.

Shortly after the premiere, Jade books another movie role that films over the summer in between seasons two and three of Beyond the Innocent. She plays the sister of the lead, a smaller part than she had in Overseas Affair, but the tone of the film is much more serious. The movie films in Chicago, and Beck is able to join her there for about a week before he flies to LA to fulfill his obligations to another role in another movie as well. Although they're both grateful for the work and enjoy doing it, the time apart isn't ideal. Thankfully by the time July rolls around, they're both back in New York and ready to go back to work filming their respective TV shows.

"This is so great!" Cat yells over the loud music "I can't remember the last time we all went out like this!"

"It was definitely before some people had cameras following them everywhere..." Andre teases, also raising his voice to be heard "Not that I'm complaining! Happy for you both, always!"

"Yeah, yeah." Jade rolls her eyes, taking a sip of her drink "I didn't hear you complaining when some people got you courtside tickets to the Knicks game a few months ago."

"Like I said, always happy for you both!"

Both Cat and Andre are correct in pointing out that it's a rare occasion for them to be out with Beck and Jade in such a public setting. It's actually the first time they've all been out together as this specific group: Beck and Jade, Cat and Robbie, and Tori and Andre. A night out felt warranted, as the small group had a lot to celebrate. Beck and Jade had starred in one of the summer's more popular movies and filmed new projects of their own, Robbie had recently earned his Master's degree and found work in music business, and Andre had gotten a promotion at work. They decided to go out to a bar to celebrate. Of course, there's security outside the building to make sure that no paparazzi sneak in and they're sitting at a private table to keep anyone from bothering them by trying to get to Beck and Jade. It's not exactly like 'the good ole days', but it's as close to them as they can get now.

They dance, they drink, they have a good time. For a while, Jade forgets that time has progressed as far forward as it has. For all she knows they could be in college at one of their favorite bars, ready to stumble back to their respective dorms or apartments at the end of the night. But then she sees how much the drinks cost and remembers that this bar is much nicer and much classier than any bar they would have gone to when they were in college...and someone yells at her from across the room and tells her how much they loved her movie and she remembers that she's somewhat famous now. So is her husband.

"Hey!" Jade catches Beck's attention over the loud music, cupping his face in her hands "I love you!"

"I love you too!" He responds, pressing a kiss to her lips with a smile on his face "Wanna dance?"

"Sure!"

She remembers the early days of their relationship, back when she was just a college student and he was an unknown actor waiting for his career to take off. When they would go out to dinner without being recognized, and when they could go out dancing at a bar and stay on the dance floor for longer than a song. Now one song is really all they can afford before they have to run back to their private table when fans start to swarm them for selfies and autographs.

"You guys are so popular!" Cat grins when Beck and Jade return to the table

"Give it time." Jade tells her friend "You will be too."

Cat is gaining a bit of a following as a Broadway actress, having moved out of her role as Satine in Moulin Rouge and into the new role that she is originating in a new musical called 'Stardom'. They're in the middle of rehearsals now and the show is expected to open for previews in August. She's started to gain a small following of theater fans who support her and while that's exciting, she still longs for a career in the music industry. She hopes that if she gives it a bit more time the right person will see her perform and offer her a professional recording contract. Andre might be able to use his connections with his new promotion to help speed the process up as well.

"That's the hope!"

The friends stay out until the bar closes at 2, something that Beck and Jade haven't done for a while. Although they're young enough and still have the energy to be doing so, they've been so busy working that they haven't had the time to go out and party like they used to be able to do. Not to mention that they've been married close to two years, and their priorities have changed. They care more about quality time with each other than anything else, even if they only get it for a few hours at night once they both get home from work.

By the time they leave, both Beck and Jade have had their fair share of alcoholic beverages...probably more than their fair share, actually. Beck is only a bit tipsy but Jade is definitely drunk, leaning on her husband for support as he helps her out of the car and into their building.

"Tha' was fun." She tells him as they make their way to the elevator "We should do it more."

"Do what more?" Beck laughs as he inserts the key to take them to the penthouse level "Drink? Dance? Go out with our friends?"

"Yes."

"Okay." He smirks, shaking his head as the elevator starts moving upwards "Noted."

She's still leaning against him as they make their way to the door, although she'd probably be able to walk on her own. Why would she though when Beck is being so kind and holding her up? He unlocks the door and they both stumble through, Beck locking up behind them as Jade staggers towards the master bathroom. Even drunk, she knows that she needs to take her makeup off before she goes to bed.

Beck comes up behind her as she's standing at the mirror and wraps his arms around her waist, hugging her tightly.

"I love you." He mumbles into her neck

"I love you too." She responds "I'm happy tha'...I'm happy tha' we got togoout tonight."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." She nods "It was kinda like in the beginning when we firs' started goin' out, you know? Sometimes I miss tha'."

"I miss that too sometimes." Beck agrees "When we could just go out and be us and not worry about getting recognized?"

"Yeah."

"Yeah." Beck smiles "You know what though? I wouldn't trade what we have now for anything."

"Me either."

That's the truth, too. They're both incredibly happy with how their lives have turned out both personally and professionally. Sure, they are recognized almost every time they leave the house, but they both get to do what they love for a living. Not many people make it in the business that they're in, and they've both been incredibly fortunate over the past few years. Not to mention that the last few years that they've spent as each other's partners, whether it be dating, engaged, or married, have been some of the best of their lives because of the presence of the other.

"I think we should go to bed." Beck says "What do you think?"

"I thin'that's a good idea." Jade nods, turning and draping her arms around his neck "Take me to bed."

"Yes, Mrs. Oliver." Beck chuckles "Whatever you say."

At the beginning of August, about a month after he returns to filming season four of Manhattan Med, Beck is fortunate enough to book himself another movie role. It's a period piece set during the Vietnam War, currently titled 'Seventh Platoon', that will require him to film in Atlanta for two months in the fall. He'll have to be written out of five episodes of the show in order to film the movie, but thankfully the writers oblige him. Beck is extremely grateful for their doing so, as he knows it makes their jobs more difficult and will throw a significant wrench into the arc they had planned for his character. His agent thinks the role might earn him some major nominations, if not wins, though, so Beck isn't too broken up about missing out of a few weeks at Manhattan Med.

He is upset about spending time away from Jade though. She's hard at work filming the third season of her own television show and isn't able to accompany him to Atlanta. Although they don't love working in different cities and being without each other, the married couple is becoming more accustomed to it. It's inevitable at this point that they won't be able to be together all the time, that's something that even non-celebrity couples face too. Thankfully, work keeps them both busy while they are apart, and they're in the same time zone so it's easier to set up time for phone calls. It's not that bad, they've gotten much better at making long distance work. However, Beck is more than happy to return home to Jade and Georgia as soon as filming wraps and he's allowed to. He's home just in time for Thanksgiving.

One day, not long after he returns to filming Manhattan Med after the winter holidays, Beck returns to his dressing room after a scene to find his agent, Craig, waiting for him.

"Oh!" Beck is startled "Hey, dude. I didn't know you were stopping by today."

"Neither did I." Craig shrugs "But I needed to talk to you and I figured the best way to get ahold of 'ya was to come straight to the source."

"Is something wrong?"

Usually 'needing to walk' warrants something serious. Craig is generally a laid back guy, so in this instance it's hard for Beck to read him.

"Not necessarily..." Craig shrugs, gesturing to the couch "Take a seat, let's talk."

"Okay..." Beck sits down on the couch, still in his costume scrubs from set "Are you sure nothing is wrong?"

"I'm going to get straight to the point here, Beck." Craig says, sitting down beside him and turning to make eye contact "Later this year, filming on a Led Zeppelin biopic is going to start. The director called me and offered you the part of Jimmy Page. No audition, no hoops to jump through...well, other than you having to learn to play guitar...but the point is, this part is yours if you want it. I think you should take it too, because the buzz around this movie is big and it's most likely going to sweep nomination categories and make a lot of money at the box office."

Beck can barely believe what he's hearing. This is the first time he's ever been straight up offered a part directly without having to audition for it or go through the callbacks process. That's something that only happens to real movie stars...could that be him now? Is he big enough in the industry for things like this to start happening to him?

Based on Craig's tone though, he can sense that there's some kind of catch. Some stipulation, other than learning to play the guitar, that actually makes this less desirable than it seems.

"I'm sensing there's a 'but' coming here, Craig..." He sighs

"There is." Craig nods "Filming would overlap with your obligations here at Med. They would need you in London early June through mid-August, and then as one of the stars of the movie you would be required to do press at some point when the movie is released. They haven't set a release date yet, the post-production will take a while because of all the music and concert scenes, but regardless...that's more time away from television for you."

"So, you're saying if I take this part, I'm going to piss off the higher-ups?" Beck raises an eyebrow at him "Even if my being in the movie brings more viewers back to the show who maybe weren't watching originally?"

"The show is finishing it's fourth season and going into the fifth." Craig reminds him "If people are interested, they're already watching. You're pulling good numbers, but there's not that much more room to grow."

"Gotcha..." Beck nods "So...if I do this movie? I'm going to have to leave the show? Is that the only option?"

"S'not the only option..." Craig shrugs "But I think it's the most amicable. I think it's better to leave on your own terms than to be killed off on someone else's."

"S'true..." Beck nods "Have you...have you mentioned this to anyone yet?"

"Not yet." Craig assures him "I wanted to come to you first."

"When does the director need an answer by?"

"He didn't say, but I would go with no later than tomorrow if you don't want him to change his mind and offer it to someone else."

"I need to talk to Jade." Beck tells his agent honestly "Leaving, well...leaving the show would be a major career shift, and I think my wife at least deserves to know what's going on before I make any decisions."

"Fair enough." Craig agrees "We'll talk tomorrow?"

"Talk tomorrow." Beck nods

"I'm glad we were able to make this work." Jade smiles across the table at her father "I feel like I never get to see you anymore."

"Well, I'm busy with work and you're busy with work. Life is..."

"Busy?" Jade finishes her father's thought for him

"Busy." He laughs in agreement "But that's what happens when you're an adult."

"Most definitely." Jade agrees

Her father had called her a few days ago, asking her if she would be free for dinner at any point during the week. She had spent Christmas and New Year's in Vancouver with Beck and his family. It's their compromise being married that since Thanksgiving is an American holiday and Beck's family is Canadian, although he and his parents are American citizens, he and Jade will spend it in New York with her father and the rest of her family. In return, they'll spend Christmas in Canada with his family. Regardless, it had been a while since Jade and her father had seen each other, and John felt they were overdue for a meal. Not to mention, he has something that he wants to discuss with her.

"I won't lie..." He begins "I did miss you, and I did want to spend some time with you tonight to catch up...but that's not the only reason I wanted to have dinner tonight."

"Oh?" Jade raises an eyebrow as she takes a sip of her wine "Okay, what else is there...?"

"I've started seeing someone." John tells his daughter honestly "Angela, or Angie is what everyone calls her. We were introduced by mutual friends back in October. I didn't think Thanksgiving was the best time to bring everything up so she and I spent it apart, but things have been going really well between her and I and well...I wanted you to know."

"Thanks great, Dad." Jade smiles "I'm happy for you."

"You're not upset?"

"Why would I be upset?"

"Well since your mother I haven't...there hasn't been anyone all that seri-"

"Dad." Jade reaches across the table and touches his arm "It's been over fifteen years. Yes, I miss Mom and yes, I wish she was still here with us and you two were happily married like you hoped that you would be...but that doesn't mean you should have to live the rest of your life alone."

She's been thinking about that fact quite a bit lately, especially with her and Beck spending Christmas in Canada. Yes, for now he has her grandparents to keep him company but they won't be around forever...and with her and Beck's careers taking them all over to film there's no guarantee that they'll always be around to keep him company either. She doesn't want her dad to be lonely, the thought of him being lonely after everything that he's been through and sacrificed makes her heart ache.

"Thank you, sweetheart." John smiles "I appreciate that."

"Of course." Jade nods "I, well Beck and I, we'd love to meet her. If you're ready for that?"

"I wouldn't have brought it up if I wasn't." John admits "Maybe we could set up something for brunch on Sunday? You're both still off on Sundays, right?"

"We are." Jade nods "Brunch sounds nice."

"Fantastic. I'll make a reservation and send you the details."

It's the last they speak of Angie for the rest of the meal. Eventually, it comes time for them to argue about who is going to pay the check, and Jade ends up winning the battle with the promise that John gets to pay for brunch on Sunday. The father and daughter say their goodbyes and hug before climbing into their respective cars to head home for the evening.

When Jade enters the penthouse Georgia immediately runs to greet her, barking and pawing at her legs.

"Hi puppy..." Jade smiles, scratching the dog behind her ears "Have you been hanging out with Dad? Where is he?"

She finds her husband sitting on the edge of the couch in the living room holding Georgia's favorite rope toy in his hand, a sign that the two of them must've been engaged in a game of tug-of-war before she came home and diverted the dog's attention.

"Hey..." She greets him "How long have you been home?"

"Less than half an hour." Beck tells her "It was a late night. How was dinner with your dad?"

"It was good..." Jade sighs, shrugging off her coat and tossing it into the armchair before sitting down beside him "He has a girlfriend, apparently."

"Oh?"

"Yeah." Jade nods "I know, surprising. I said we would get brunch with them on Sunday. Is that okay with you?"

"S'fine." Beck nods, greeting her with a kiss "Welcome home, by the way."

"Thanks." She smiles "How was your day?"

"I need to talk to you about my day."

"Okay." Jade is a bit surprised by the sudden seriousness of his tone "Is everything alright?"

"A director called Craig and offered me the part of Jimmy Page in a Led Zeppelin biopic." Beck tells her "No audition, just offered me the part because he wants me to have it."

"Beck!" Jade gasps, throwing her arms around him and hugging him tightly "Holy shit! That's fantastic! Congratulations!"

"Thanks..." Beck sighs "There's a catch though."

"Of course there is..." Jade sighs as well as she sits back up "There always is."

"The obligations to the movie...they would seriously cut into the next season of the show..." Beck explains "And after I missed so many episodes with the last movie, Craig thinks it might be better if I just...leave the show on good terms before they choose to write me out on bad ones..."

"Oh..." Jade nods, biting her lip "I mean...he makes a good point."

"I know he does." Beck runs a hand through his hair as he leans back "I just...this show was my first real job, it gave me all of the opportunities that I've had since I booked it. It's the reason we met...I owe so much to the whole team I can't just...leave."

"You wouldn't be the first person to leave a major television show to peruse other things." Jade points out "And I don't think anyone who works in the industry can blame you for making the best choice for yourself and your career."

"What would you do?" Beck asks her

"What would I do if someone asked me to play Jimmy Page in a Led Zeppelin biopic?" Jade smirks "Probably ask them if I could have some of whatever they were smoking that made them think I would be a good choice."

"Jade, I'm being serious."

"I know, I'm sorry." She apologizes, reaching out to rub his back gently "I would do the movie. You never know when an opportunity like this will present itself again, and you don't want to look back and have any regrets. You've put in more than your fair share of time on the show, I think everyone will understand. That's me thinking with my head and my heart by the way, I know you tell me that I need to work on doing both."

"You've gotten a lot better at letting your heart do some of the thinking." Beck smiles a bit, pressing a kiss to her temple before wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her close "I'm going to do the movie."

"I think that's a good choice."

"You think or you know?"

"I know."

"Okay, good." Beck smiles "Thank you for always supporting me."

"Of course. I took vows that promised I would." Jade reminds him "So...are you going to grow your hair out for this movie?"

"They haven't told me yet..." He chuckles "Craig did say I'll have to learn to play guitar though."

"That's fucking hot." Jade remarks

"You think so?"

"Oh, I know so."
