Third-person pov

All was silent in the calm morning at the Todoroki's house on Jan 11. The door opened slightly to a young girl's room. She slept soundly as her red-haired brother tiptoed into the room.

He reached out and gently shook her awake. "Time to wake up Tommy."

"Mmmmmmm . . . five more minutes." The girl mumbled, turning her back to her older brother. Her colored hair mixing even more so.

"Tommy, you have to wake up! Remember what day it is?" The boy turned her back to face her. He then carefully removed her blanket, the cold morning air hitting her warm body.

4-year-old Y/n had just gotten her quirk a couple of months ago, along with her twin Shoto. And because of this, sometimes it would slip and their quirks would activate accidentally.

The ice girl sat up wobbly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she blankly stared at her brother. "I don't know Tou . . . what day is it?"

"Let's first wake Shoto up. Then I'll show you." He grinned and lead the way to a walkway outside that connected the two houses. When the duo came to the front door of the second house, Y/n stopped.

"Touya stop! You know how dad gets when we try to visit Shoto." The little girl halted and eyes wide with horror.

Touya paused and turned around with the calmest smile he could manage. Due to the fact that he didn't smile often, all of the children and their mother didn't. They weren't used to the expression since they basically lived in fear. But they learned from their mother and the other children at school how to make the foreign expression if forced. Fuyumi and Y/n were better at making them as convincing as possible.

"It's ok y/n. Dad isn't here today." Touya reassured and continued to walk towards Shoto's room.

"Really?! Today's going to be great, I just know it!" Y/n jumped up and flashed her brightest smile, then ran to catch up to the older boy.

He just hummed and nodded softly. 'Today will be the best day ever, I promise you that. You and Shoto.'

They then reached a door and softly opened it. Softly walking over to the bed as to not startle the smaller boy.

"Hey Halfy, wake up! Big brother has a surprise for us!" The little girl excitedly whispered to her twin. He was the baby out of the four, needing protection and naturally adorable.

"A surprise?" Shoto yawned and blinked to clear his vision. Almost immediately, something clicked and the two-toned boy scrambled out of bed and started to push the duo out. "You need to get out before dad finds you too!"

Touya waved it off, saying, "It's fine Sho. Dad isn't here today."

"Yep! Today's going to be awesome, I already know it!" And the girl tackled Shoto, giggling in the process.

"O-oh. So what's the surprise _?" The smaller boy questioned.

"You'll have to follow me. Come on." And the red-headed boy leads the way.

The trio soon arrives to pause in front of the living room door. And as Touya opens it with a swing, lights flood the once dark room.

"SURPRISE!"

The normally bland room is now covered with balloons and a banner that reads: Happy Birthday Shoto and Y/n. Streamers are tapped onto the wall. Right in the middle of the room with matching party hats is their mother, Rei, Fuyumi, and Natsou. With the latter having a sort of cone in his hands.

Everyone is smiling brightly as the room is filled with joy.

The birthday twins are shocked, but that soon fades into surprised happiness. Touya just smiles at that and pushes them forward. Rei pulls out silver and gold crowns and places them on their head. While Natsou aims above the dou's heads and pulls a string, making confetti rain above them. Light snow also starts falling and Shoto's left side sparks with small flicks of flame.

Suddenly, everything seems to fast forward. Snapshots of moments speed by.

The Todoroki family around a cake as the twins blow out their cake. Everyone cheering and as their mom gathers her children together for a group photo.

The family spending their time at an amusement park, a request from the birthday girl. Cotton candy in hand and her oldest brother's hand in the other.

More moments whisk by, until the memory finally slows down.

Shoto's room was dark as his siblings and mother tucked him into bed. As the siblings took turns to bid him off to sleep. Y/n stepped up and hugged his neck.

"Today was the best day ever, right Sho?"

"Yeah. Are we going to have more of these?"

"Of course we are. Goodnight halfy." And the little girl pulled herself away from him.

Their mother then came up and kissed his forehead. "Sleep tight my little candy cane. Don't let the bed bugs bite."

Rei, Natsou, and Fuyumi made their way to the living room to clean up. While her red haired brother took her to her room.

"Goodnight Tou. Today was the best day ever."

"Goodnight Y/n. I'm glad you had fun today." And made his way towards the door.

But he stopped when he heard a faint whisper."Touya? Do you think we'll have more days like these?"

Sighing, he made his way back. "Of course we will Y/n. I'll give you all the stuff animals you want and pay for them with dad's money."

Giggling, the girl held out her pinky, "Promise you'll always be there?"

"I promise"

(If only they knew what was coming . . .)

15 year old Y/n Todoroki pulled her head up. Looking around, she rubbed her eyes to clear the tears from them.

She was sitting at her desk, ear buds in and a book in front of her.

'I must have fell asleep . . .'

Fragments of the long buried memory resurfaced, and in a matter of seconds. Tears once again slid down her face. Muffled sobs rang through the girls dorm as she pulled a black child's sweater from her closet and buried her face into it.

Sniffing, she tried to smell the long gone scent from it. With nothing coming, she continued to sob silently.

"You promised . . . you promised Touya . . ." Muttering over and over again through jagged breaths. The finally part that day replayed on loop in her head. She couldn't seem to think about anything else.

"Promise you'll always be here?"

"I promise"
